Oh, my goodness...
Peanut Butter
Hey everyone! It's me Jasmine again, and welcome to the best day of my life.
I just finished having the live stream, and thank you so much for watching. Thank you
so much for taking part.
It was kind of painful. Not gonna lie.
It wasn't that bad as the first time, okay? So it wasn't that embarrassing as the
first time but, Marlon, I'm looking at you. So, I gave a tour of my room. I gave
a tour of my fridge, and I also had to eat a chili pepper. I do not like spicy
foods-- not that much. I can handle a tiny bit of spice, but typically
I do not like spicy foods but I ate a chili pepper and it hurt. It hurt.
Recently I was having a conversation with one of my students about which
foods and sauces or spreads are staple to specific countries. So, Australia was
easy. It was Vegemite. My student said that for Japan it would be miso. And we
both agreed that for the U.S. it would be peanut butter. After talking about
peanut butter I started remembering the various peanut butter snacks that I
loved, like peanut butter cookies, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, celery with
peanut butter. But when I asked my student if she had tried any of these
snacks or if she had even tried peanut butter, she said no she had never
tried peanut butter before. But, she has tried peanut cream. In Japan you're more
likely to find peanut cream than peanut butter, and in my honest opinion
peanut cream is crap. I hate peanut cream. It doesn't even taste like peanut butter
I guess it's not supposed to be peanut butter because it's peanut cream, but
it's just like crappy. It's more liquidy than peanut butter. It has like a grayish
color. It's just not that great. It's like a mix between maybe caramel and peanuts
and that sounds great, but when you want peanut butter, when you're looking
for peanut butter, and that's the only thing that you can find it's a huge
disappointment. The peanut butter that I buy in Japan
it costs almost seven US dollars. And they don't even have the brand that I
like. So let's get into why I'm making this video. So, after hearing about what
my students said, I asked other students if they had tried peanut butter if they
had tried peanut butter snacks that we typically eat in the US, and most
of them had said no. Living in a share residence surrounded by Japanese people I
decided I wanted them try American snacks. I want them to
understand my culture-- know who I am. I want them to try peanut butter snacks
that I love. Blindfolded. Have you tried peanut butter
before? Yes. Yes. Did you like it? Yeah, I like it.
Delicious.
Like! Like!
No.
I don't really like it.
I love peanut butter.
Today, I want you to try two peanut butter American snacks.
Ohhhhhh! Yayyyyyy!!
Can you put this on, please?
Which one is delicious?
I don't knowww.
I can't get poisoned, right? It's ok?
Wow! It's cold.
What do you think it is?
Chocolate!
Oh, is it a spoon?
Can I eat it?
What do you think it is?
Peanut butter.
And?
and...
What's this?
Chocolate?
Is this the snack?
What do you think it is?
It feels like chocolate.
Chocolate? Is it only chocolate?
What does it smell like?
Peanut butter
I don't know.
I don't know.
Oh! It's a vegetable!
What do you think it is?
Uh...peanut butter cream.
Ohhhh, my goodness.
Peanut butter.
Eat it, please.
Here I go.
Whaaaat
It's a cucumb-...
Miso?!
But, it's peanut butter...
Cucumber?
What is this?
Vegetable!
Vegetable!
What kind of vegetable?
Cucumber!
How is it?
It's celery, isn't it?
It's peanut butter and celery, right?
Yeah, it's celery.
What?! What's this?
Celery?
What? Whoaa
It smells like nothing! There's no smell! The celery has no smell!
And this is peanut butter? Interesting!
But, I'd probably prefer if they were separate.
Yea, I would separate them.
Peanut butter and celery.
It's a healthy snack.
What?
Peanut butter isn't healthy though, right?
It IS healthy!
Celery!
Celery!
That was difficult.
Oh, it is celery, isn't it?!
I knew it was celery because I HATE celery.
But, it's ok though.
But yea, I knew it was celery.
It wasn't good.
I'm telling you, I love peanut butter!
Bread!
Bread? Ok. Only bread?
Bread! It feels like bread.
BREAD!
It's bread, right?
It's bread!
Soft.
It's.....bread?
Bread!
Bread, and?
Jam?
Ah, it got on my nose.
It smells like bread.
Nothing special.
Bread and...?
Bread and ...peanut butter?
Bread and?
Bread and something?
There's three things.
Three?
Bread!
Strawberry jam?
I only smell bread.
Is it only bread?
Yeah.
Peanut butter?
Good!
Here I go!
I don't know what it is. What is it?
Bread, jam, and...
What's that thing going crunch crunch?
This is good.
Peanut butter....and
What else is there....? Bread! Peanut Butter!
Strawberry jam!
Oh yea! I got it!
I haven't tried this red stuff until now.
Oh, it's jam!
It's good.
Ok, you can take your blindfold off.
Oh! I get it now.
I see. Strawberry jam, yeah?
That's all there is in America.
Eh? Peanut butter?
Yea, it's peanut butter!
Oh, peanut butter and jam sandwich.
This is healthy!
Have you tried this before?
Yea.
But in America this wasn't good.
This is a peanut butter jelly sandwich.
Jelly?
Yeah, jam.
Jam?! Oh!
Nice collab!
It's good!
The celery with peanut butter was surprising, right?
No.
I want to make this one.
Only this one.
Peanut butter is one of those things that I love, but
it's not something I could always eat.
It's one of those things for special occasions.
I'll always have some in my fridge but rarely ever eat it.
Even though Ilike it.
I'm not into peanut butter.
(Jasmine) I understand. It's ok.
Is it ok?
When I was making this video, I learned a few things.
First, Japanese people do not typically like celery. Other foods that Japanese people typically do not like are:
cinnamon. And kids usually do not like green peppers.
In the US, kids don't really like any vegetables
More specifically, kids don't really like broccoli, brussel sprouts, and beats.
Next, I learned one of my neighbors is a singer.
Yes! Mai Mai is a singer!
She is part of the group, Sonna Kanji. It's just her and one other person.
You can check out her latest song through the link at the top, or in the description box below.
Mai Mai is having a performance in Koenji. There's a link in the description box
below so if you are going to Koenji that day you should definitely check her out.
I'll be there too. Also I don't trust that Bell notification, so if you would
like to know every time I do a collaboration. Every time I'm
travelling or every time I released a video, please sign up to my free email
