Hi! This is the Daily Overpass. My name is Eric and I make apps. Now, by popular
request for some reason, I'm going to give you guys a tour of my office.
Okay, so first let me say please excuse the attire. I'm wearing my morning
stuff so every morning, I get up really early I put on my gym clothes and then I
walk into the office, so I filmed all of this in the morning so
that's why, I'm dressed the way I am. Now, some
every so often, you guys ask me for a tour of my office, or my workstation, or
anything like that, and I have always been putting it off because to be honest
with you I'm kind of a slob and I live in a town called Wantage.
Where not all that many people know me. I still have this, most of the time,
if I go out to a shop or something like that, people will say how long you here
for because of my accent, so I'm not really widely known in this town.
Even after like 19 years. So I thought I'd get it out of
the way. Today, so I'm going to show you guys a little bit outside, a
little bit of my office. This might be boring for most of you, so you go ahead
and skip, will be back to something interesting tomorrow. But for those of
you who are interested in the way that I live, let me show you my office and where
I work. Okay, so some of you guys have been asking for a tour of where I
work. It's like 6:30 in the morning so there's nobody here in the town so I
thought I'd show you around a little bit. Show you my office and all that kind of
stuff. It's not that impressive but, it's what it is. So I moved to
Wantage like 19 years ago. I thought I'd move for like two years for family
reasons and it's a small town in the
middle. Well, in Oxfordshire but it's a nice town. Usually it's a bit more busy
than this but it's like 6:30 in the morning so nobody's out yet or
there's a few people out but not that many that I'm embarrassed to start
showing you around my office is like above one of these shops so let me show
you where this where this office is here so for years I've been working from home
or taking the train to like Didcot which is a nearby train station so which was
nice but then after a while just it got really difficult working from the house
not so much is difficult for me but for everybody else so I moved above a shop
okay so my office is in that window right there, you might be able to see
there's a few stickers I put in the window for overpass apps and there's
like a busy walkway here outside and every summer, there's a guy
with a steel drum who plays for passers-by which sounds fine. I mean
steel drum music is great I suppose. But, for hours in a row it really
drives me crazy. So, I've ever seen irritated in the videos, it's because the
steel drum guys out. So this here 5/8 grocery is where I spend most of my time
so, four o'clock in the morning. I'm walking down here,
it's a quiet town so it's not so bad, and then I come here. Now,
let me show you this here.
I put a sign up, right here we go, overpass app it's all dirty and dingy.
Now, thing is, I don't like it when people just pop in. This is one of the things
when I set it up, it was kind of nice and I thought, if I'm gonna have an office, I
want to have a sign, so I set it up and I hate it when people
just like pop in and it's happened a few times. When you're coding
and somebody just walks in the door. I don't mind it so much when it's a
phone call, but when they pop in, that's something.
There's a little Lobby here, it's just a tiny little dingy office. And,
this is it! Number four, so a little overpass logo up there. It's
such a dingy little office. Let me show you this, you're gonna be
very unimpressed, so one of the reasons why I don't show you guys my
office is because it's a mess. It's also one of the reasons why I don't like
people popping in because usually like it it started off
being really professional. I thought ,I'm gonna get my own office. It's
going to look professional have a little conference table here and
I had everything set up like in a client type of situation so and in the
beginning I did have a few clients come by but I preferred it as being someplace
that I could work, someplace I could really stretch out and stuff like that
so it gets really dingy in fact I thought about cleaning up before I
filming this video but I thought alright I'll show you guys the way I work and
then you guys because yeah you guys to see the slob for that I am, so
let me show you around, show you around the office. Some of this is
going to be personally embarrassing for me but bear with me here.
Alright! so over here we have a window that faces out onto the street which is
where the steel drum guy is just, this is either steel drum guy or a
guy with a mandolin. Nobody ever plays like normal music as a street vendor
around here. I have no idea what it is, so I've got a bunch of books.
I have loads of books from home, most of the time on the kindle, these are
some of the ones that I like a lot, so I brought in and every so often if i get
bored, I could like read them during during work, but that never happens
above my window, this is the embarrasing part, above my window I have some
motivational stuff right just so stuff that you know feeling slow
whenever, so over here, I've got a picture, a printout of the Western Metal
supply building at Petco Park in San Diego. This is one of my
dreams of life, when I was a kid when I was a teenager, one of my one
dreams was I have season tickets for the San Diego Padres at that time
was Jack Murphy Stadium. Now ,it's Petco Park and and I still
think one day, if I can make overpass big enough, I want to get a
corporate box at Petco Park. Even though I know there's no way I have that
kind of time to go to the baseball game every day but one day I'm still
young-ish, I guess.I went to a twenty Robbins event a few weeks ago.
Well last month of the unleash the power within which is if you're not into that
kind of stuff it's very it's very corny and you have to really throw yourself
into it but I loved it right and I took I took one of the big sayings from it
and I put it up here, now I am the voice I will lead not follow oh yeah
if you know Tony Robbins you know this. I'm also a big Grant Cardone fan so
I've got a bumper sticker that I got from him you know who's got
my money when I do sales and types of stuff and the other big dream like
whenever you put together dreamless or goal list there's always one thing that
makes a list and that is the kind of car that I want to get and it's and it came
to England a couple years ago right and it's yeah all right I'm going to admit
this to you I want to get a Ford Mustang so I have the Ford Mustang up here
and it's like yeah I'm not a car guy. When it comes to
cars I know about the Mustang I know you know the Batmobile I
know you know this huh yeah I know a few of them but I can't tell one car from
another but this is one of the ones that kinds I wanted to get. So I've got
an American flag up here on the wall I've got my work station and my work
station of course is where I spend most of my time ago
you know I show you this last week or a few weeks ago where as this is a rising
desk so it rises up and down I've got an air conditioner here because something
about this office man it's just in the summer is boiling it's hotter in here
it's like this must be five or six degrees hotter in here than it is
outside right I've got a printer my blue
microphone buy one of the best investments I've made in terms of client
work is this little webcam up here it's a Logitech c920 right so it's much
better than the FaceTime camera that comes on a Mac and when I meet
with clients it's you know it's really nice just to bring it up there
and they they think it's kind of you know futuristic and everything I've got
my blue snowball microphone which is which is much better microphone than
like a headset microphone that for when you do audio specific stuff I've got
like another desk over here again I thought one day I would hire somebody
else and it that keeps coming up I do I hire somebody else to work in here and
you know what it's just like I don't want anybody else in this office like I
just gotten so used to it right it you guys can't smell it but it just smells
like coffee in here it smells like coffee in here all the time right and I
bought like a job lot of monitors on eBay once and I've got all these
monitors I've got a Raspberry Pi over here and I use that for demonstrating
stuff I don't know if you see that I've got a Raspberry Pi connected to one of
them I use it for demos and stuff like that out there on this wall I've got a
few more things certificate of a limited company I've got to hit webstorm short
keyboard shortcuts an army thing over here I've got Gmail keyboard shortcuts
and I've got a oops and I've got a list of time zones because sometimes it's
just easier to turn around and look at the time zones than it is to try to
figure it out for the Philippines and for Manila and I've got a Jim Rome quote
up here that that I really like and I've got a filing cabinet a basketball hoop
and my green screen now in the early days I was doing a lot of green screen
stuff so you know I've got gray screen I got some lights you know I kept going
back and forth with the green screen and you know trying to improve that but you
know it's always been kind of difficult so yeah so sometimes I don't bother
sometimes I just alter so what basically what I do when I do the daily video is I
just turned the lights around I sit down here pop up the camera and just talk
right and then I've got you know coffee so first thing in the morning for 4:30
in the morning come in and make coffee and I've got this plant which you know
this is this is what an optimist I am right this plant is dead okay I love
this plant and I'm going to keep watering it and I think it's going to
come back to life so anyway I hope that hasn't been too boring a lot of you guys
been asking for a tour of the office you know and I just think ah you know wants
to see the office so most of you guys are never good not going to make it this
far into the video so that's cool right this is this you know and I'd like to
say like if you got if you guys work at home and you really like it and I like
working at home too getting in office is it's like it was like a real boost
productivity right just having some place you can go be uninterrupted except
for phone calls or or whatever right just uh you know just being able to you
know just be able to focus on what you need to focus on so anyway that's it for
today I will talk to you guys or something maybe a little bit more
interesting tomorrow
