Thousands Of Google Employees REVOLT, Demand Company Stop Supporting US War Machine

Last month, a press leak revealed that Google has been working with the U.S. Department

of Defense on a drone program called �Project Maven,� which is being developed to scan

images in drone footage and identify targets.

Prior to it being reported in the news, this project was unknown to most Google employees,

even those who were working on different aspects of the project.

The company was so secretive about the project and kept their employees so compartmentalized,

that thousands of talented engineers had no clue that they were aiding a war effort. Now,

many of those employees are speaking out, and demanding that the company cancel its

work on the controversial program.

This week, a letter that was signed by over 3,100 Google employees, addressed to Google

CEO Sundar Pichai, stated that they did not want to be involved �in the business of

war.�

x The letter reads:

We believe that Google should not be in the business of war. Therefore we ask that Project

Maven be cancelled, and that Google draft, publicize and enforce a clear policy stating

that neither Google nor its contractors will ever build warfare technology. Google is implementing

Project Maven, a customized AI surveillance engine that uses �Wide Area Motion Imagery�

data captured by US Government drones to detect vehicles and other objects, track their motions,

and provide results to the Department of Defense. Recently, Googlers voiced concerns about Maven

internally.

Amid growing fears of bias ed and weaponized AI, Google is already struggling to keep the

public�s trust. By entering into this contract, Google will join the ranks of companies like

Palantir, Raytheon, and General Dynamics. The argument that other firms, like Microsoft

and Amazon, are also participating doesn�t make this any less risky for Google.

Google�s unique history, its motto Don�t Be Evil , and its direct reach into the lives

of billions of users set it apart. We cannot outsource the moral responsibility of our

technologies t o third parties . Google�s stated values make this clear: Every one of

our users is trusting us. Never jeopardize that. Ever. This contract puts Google�s

reputation at risk and stands in direct opposition to our core values. Building this technology

to assi st the US Government in military surveillance � and potentially lethal outcomes � is

not acceptable.

The letter ends by demanding that the company immediately cancel the project and also �Draft,

publicize, and enforce a clear policy stating that neither Google nor its contractors will

ever build warfare technology.�

Project Maven was launched in April 2017, and according to a Pentagon memo, the objective

is to �augment or automate Processing, Exploitation and Dissemination (PED) for unmanned aerial

vehicles (UAVs)� in order to �reduce the human factors burden of [full motion video]

analysis, increase actionable intelligence, and enhance military decision-making.�

When the issue was raised last month, Google spokesperson Diane Greene assured the concerned

employees that the technology �will not operate or fly drones� and �will not be

used to launch weapons.�

However, the employees saw right through this excuse and pointed out in their letter that,

�While this eliminates a narrow set of direct applications, the technology is being built

for the military, and once it�s delivered it could easily be used to assist in these

tasks. This plan will irreparably damage Google�s brand and its ability to compete for talent.�

Even if this technology is used for �non-offensive purposes,� it will still be assisting the

military-industrial-complex to wage unjust wars. In fact, it is the responsibility of

everyone who is a part of the machine to refuse participation in war efforts.

Anti-war activist Arundhati Roy once made this point quite eloquently, saying, �Colorful

demonstrations and weekend marches are vital but alone are not powerful enough to stop

wars. Wars will be stopped only when soldiers refuse to fight when workers refuse to load

weapons onto ships and aircraft when people boycott the economic outposts of Empire that

are strung across the globe.�

In a statement to The New York Times this Tuesday, Google CEO Pichai said, �any military

use of machine learning naturally raises valid concerns. We�re actively engaged across

the company in a comprehensive discussion of this important topic.�

Pichai also doubled down on the claim that Project Maven was �specifically scoped to

be for non-offensive purposes.� Unfortunately, it doesn�t seem that this protest will end

Google�s relationship with the Pentagon.

Google/Alphabet executive Eric Schmidt, and Google vice president Milo Medin, currently

serve on a Pentagon advisory body called the Defense Innovation Board.

In an interview last November, Schmidt recognized that there was �a general concern in the

tech community of somehow the military-industrial complex using their stuff to kill people incorrectly,�

but he insisted that the military would only �use this technology to help keep the country

safe.�

Google is notorious for helping the government build a war state abroad and a police state

back home and until now, their employees have been largely silent about becoming a part

of the military-industrial complex.

Welcome to this review of Garmin GPS 73

A small portable GPS I bought as I miss any instrument on board of "Planadas"

From the main menu you can access the Instruments mask.

It's a customizable screen

where I've selected to display: Speed, Heading and Trip Odometer

I also purchased the optional mount kit

You can screw the mounting wheel to your boat permanently

and then attach the removable part

I also bought a Mini USB cable

plugged to the solar panel controller on one side

and the other side to the Mini USB port on the device

you can now fix the GPS to the mounting kit by the clip on the right side

and it's ready to be used

we can now sail some miles

and then check what data are available on the GPS

tracks are then visible in the Maps menu

tracks can be transferred to a PC to be visualized on a map

Garmin suggests to use an own application to display maps

I do prefer to use Google Maps because it's free and more detailed than the Garmin's free version

let's go to Google maps to upload our tracks

go to the menu on the upper left side and choose My Places

after checking if you are authenticated with your google accout

than go to the Maps menu item

click on "create new map" at the bottom of the screen

the new map gets created in few seconds

now it is possible to insert a new level

and import data from a file stored on the device

click on the button in the middle of the screen

on windows explorer - havig connected the device cable

you see the Garmin device entry

and a folder inside named Garmin

then a GPX folder with some file

and a folder named Current

inside the folder a file current.gpx

containing all waypoits

here we see all of them already uploaded

in red

followed by the initial and ending points of each track

suddenly followed by ...

... the tracks uploaded on Google maps

now on the search field

we look for the zone of the map

where we were sailing

in our case the Maggiore Lake

and check

what we find

we see

the red dots corresponding to the waypoints

stored in our

GPS

if we zoom we also see

the lines corresponding to the tracks of our boat

we can also colour our tracks

in different ways by day

to differenciate them

now you can see two different colours for two different days

it's also possible to edit the title and the descritpion of the map

and save it by clicking on the Save button

if we select and click on a track

we can notice that

in Google maps some data

have already been automatically uploaded

like the sailing distance, the average speed

we can also add further information

as by example, the highest speed we read

on the GPS

or the names of our sailing companions

The first place to check is storage.

Hey view crew today, we're gonna take a look at the long-awaited nest doorbell is it worth it?

should you buy it let's take a look?

In a nutshell two things we're I'm talking about installation very quickly and we're going to talk about performance now let

Did we like the nest doorbell yes, we did, but I'm going to tell you we had a few concerns

And we're going to talk through some of those concerns as we walk through the install, but first. Let's get to the installation

So as always nest does a terrific job of packaging

Looks really good, that's beautiful look at that thing

That's great little smaller than I thought it would be

We've got our QR code on the back that we're very familiar with with the setup

That's a pretty nice-looking unit that must be our speaker

Yeah, that must be the speaker then the ringer down at the bottom. Let's see what else is inside here

They always do very simple packaging very well done

Let's see it looks like we have our warranty all our warranty information there

Yeah, and you know well, it's not much to this it really just not much what else is in here

Well it really is that it no ok so looks like we just have these pieces

Set up with the Nest Hello piece and then

this looks like a sticker so something you put on your your door or your window indicating that the homes protected by nest

I Don't know if I'll use it, but it's nice to have

nice to have

In the event I do decide to use it. Let's take a look at the tools

They always give you tools Ness is pretty good about that we got a drill bit a couple electrical pieces

And looks like we've got our our mount for our nest doorbell

Two little screw openings there, and then oh nice

It's it has the wedge, so you dont have to buy that extra. It comes with it

So that's the angle your nest doorbell in the direction that

Works best to get that camera to see what you want it to see and this must be the chime connector

So that would go inside the doorbell In the box on the wall in the home and

connects it to the nest doorbell

Allows it to engage with it so as always very well, put together. Let's talk about subscriptions here, so there's three different

subscription packages, and you don't need to have a subscription to run a nest

Camera you don't have to the only reason you would need it is if you want to record video history

Now you can record video in history three ways, five day

Ten day, or 30 day packages and each of the packages have the exact same thing the only difference is going to be the days

so they all have

24/7 continuous recording they each have intelligent alerts

clips and

time-lapse recording and

Activity zones now here's a difference on these subscription packages in terms of cost

Okay on a subscription on a five-day subscription. It's five dollars a month and for any additional camera for each additional camera

You're simply gonna add three dollars per month

on the ten day package

Ten dollars a month for the first camera and then after that you're only gonna pay five dollars for each additional

camera on the ten-day plan and the 30 day plan

$30 a month for the first camera and all other cameras on the 30 day plan will only cost you

$15 per month and there you go thats subscriptions pick the package that works for you

I have multiple cameras and so and I have a little longer period of recording I use a 10-day

pick the one that works for you

First thing you need to do is you need to turn the power off so go down to your

Electrical box wherever it is and you need to shut that off because there's power going to this and it's live you want to make

Sure, it's shut off

once you have it shut off you want to come back and

my chime didn't have a label on it as

To what volt it was that I could see that I could read or it didn't have a name

But I did find it right here, and so it says

10 to 16 volt okay

Perfect so I saw that in the app or online when you're doing the installation

It shows you so I just selected that one so yours

We'll probably be much the same so you won't have to go back underneath and get the transformer behind here

So just very simply everyone's going to be you're probably slightly different

So I have this says front and this says

Transformer, so I had two wires well actually three one wire here

Which was the red wire that you see here?

That was connected there

These two white wires right here these two white wires right here

Those were connected to the front because I only have one chime. That's a front doorbell so these two

Were connected to there

What I had to do is I had to take the chime adapter from nest and I had to connect it to here

So I just used their diagram that they walk you through and I took

The wire that they told me to and I connected one to the front and one to the transformer

Just like they told me to it walks you through that make sure you pay attention next what I did is I took the

Second set of wires, and I connected my hot lead

to the gray just like it told me to do and

You remember those two wires that were here on the front

What I did was I had to get a piece of Bell wire

From Lowe's or Home Depot, and I just got a twist nut combine those together

And I just pushed that into there. Okay, so all of this comes with nest

So all I did was just connect that to that and you're done now. You can go back down turn the power on

after you get everything tucked back in and you can turn the power on and

Check it, okay

Okay, this part was very simple so what I did took the other doorbell off after I got it off got the wires pulled

Out as far as I can get them comfortably I taped behind it, so it wouldn't drop back down through the hole

You don't want to lose those big headache and so from there

I put my first bracket on kind of the placement bracket on there, and then there's another bracket

Which is a wedge, so I don't know that you can see that, but that's actually angled out

and I needed that because I wanted the camera to get people as they came through

I Didn't need this wall soI got that on there. There's two little screws on the back of the nest

I attached those two wires a red and a white to the back of the nest and

then you just slide the nest on and then it will just click you'll hear a firm click, and it won't move from there and

Now that we've talked about how to install that on the outside very simple should be fairly quick for you

Now let's talk about the quality of the nests video what's great about this is for when you have a package dropped off or

When both spouses are at work, or you're out shopping or in our case on this particular Saturday my wife

And I were out getting our taxes done, and so we're out we noticed that

FedEx has come by. A package we had been waiting for arrived a little earlier than we anticipated and so you know yes

It's great for home security

But I got to tell you the thing gives me peace of mind is when a delivery shows up

Whether it's on time or off time to know that it delivered, and I'm notified and then this way I can you know

Call a neighbor very quick on a Saturday see if they can come pick it up or so forth

Or if we know we're coming back home

We can come back

But we at least we know it's been dropped off and in any event if something happens

We know what may have happened so guys

here's an example of when this comes in handy so my wife, and I are on the way back and

So we're you know we're anticipating you know getting our package getting home, but sometimes you don't make it right and so

this is the same package that you just saw dropped off with FedEx somebody's walking around the neighborhood and

it's like is this someone that we know? and we're looking and

Can't really see their face and so here

We are thinking that we lost the package

But they must have looked up and saw the nest cam and freaked them out

They just left it, so I tell you what that's peace of mind

And that's exactly what a nest doorbell does for our family and could do the same for your family as well

I guess you know help you with those packages when they get delivered

Laredo Sector Border Patrol Agents Assist in the Arrest of 70 Illegal Aliens in a Stash

House.

LAREDO, Texas – On April 6, 2018, Border Patrol Agents responded to a request for assistance

from the Laredo Police Department regarding multiple subjects in a stash house located

at 4504 Corrada Avenue in south Laredo, Texas.

A total of 70 illegal aliens which included men, women and children were found inside

the residence.

The subjects were determined to be from the countries of Guatemala, Mexico, El Salvador,

Brazil, Romania and Honduras.

Record checks will be done on all subjects and will be processed accordingly.

Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) has the lead in the investigation.

"The deplorable conditions in which these individuals were found demonstrates how ruthless

these smuggling organizations are and how they view these people as mere commodities,"

said Assistant Chief Patrol Agent Gabriel Acosta.

All people apprehended by the Border Patrol undergo criminal history checks using biometrics

to ensure their criminal histories are positively identified.

LAREDO, Texas – On April 6, 2018, Border Patrol Agents from the Hebbronville Station

seized 754 pounds of marijuana after responding to suspicious activity in ranch near Hebbronville,

Texas.

Agents conducted a vehicle stop on a white Dodge truck and discovered 34 bundles of marijuana

inside the vehicle and tool boxes.

The marijuana had an estimated value of $603,200.00.

The driver, a Mexican National, was arrested.

The driver and marijuana were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration and

the vehicle was seized by Border Patrol.

Later that afternoon, Border Patrol Agents from the Hebbronville Station seized 492.6

pounds of marijuana and 66 pounds of cocaine after responding to suspicious activity in

Hebbronville, Texas.

Agents conducted a vehicle stop on a white Ford truck and discovered 21 bundles of marijuana

and 27 bundles of cocaine inside the vehicle and tool boxes.

The driver, a United States Citizen, attempted to abscond and was immediately arrested.

The marijuana had an estimated value of $394,080.00 and the cocaine had an estimated value of

$2,140,800.00.

The driver, narcotics and a weapon were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

The vehicle was seized by Border Patrol.

of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders
