White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders need not worry about mean restaurant

owners anymore because according to the administration, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, at least temporarily,

is going to be given Secret Service protection at her home just to make sure that she doesn't

ever have another uninterrupted meal.

Now that's not the official reasoning given by the administration, but honestly, that's

the only conclusion that we could come to because as it stands right now, nobody has

threatened her.

It's actually her supporters that are out there calling in the threats to the Red Hen

Restaurant, the establishment itself, and the employees.

They're standing outside armed to the hilt, ready to take on anybody that goes in, but

Sarah Huckabee Sanders is the one that's going to get taxpayer-funded Secret Service protection.

This whole thing has gotten absolutely out of hand.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders is playing the victim card better than I think I've ever seen anyone

play the victim card.

You were denied a meal.

Okay?

Not even that you didn't get to eat that night.

I'm sure you went somewhere else.

You were also at the Red Hen Restaurant given a free cheese plate for your trouble, so you

did technically get some food.

The owner didn't come out and grab you by the shoulders and throw you out into the street.

No.

They politely said, "We don't want to serve you.

We would like for you to leave.

Don't forget to take your cheese."

And that's it.

Conservatives are acting like they held a knife to her throat and said, "If you don't

get out of here, we're going to end you and everyone like you."

This is absolutely absurd.

Conservatives have lost their damn minds.

And I know that that statement implies that at one point they had minds so forgive me

for that.

But seriously, that's what this whole hubbub is about.

The fact that Sarah Huckabee Sanders didn't get to eat dinner at her first choice restaurant

on a Friday evening.

And now we, I, me, you, everyone has to pay for her security detail because she's a triggered

snowflake at this point?

That's what this is about, folks.

There are not threats pouring in against Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

She does not need Secret Service protection.

She is not a victim.

The real victims in this country are the truth, reality, the American public, the ones who

have to put up with her lying to us on a daily basis, whitewashing the most horrible atrocities

committed by this administration.

Not only were we paying her salary to do this, but now we are the ones footing the bill for

the Secret Service to be round the clock at her house until this whole Red Hen fiasco

dies down.

This is absolutely pathetic, folks.

I am so sick of this administration, of Conservatives in general trying to throw the victim card

out.

Puerto Rico is not fully restored.

Flint doesn't have clean water yet.

Thousands of children that have been separated from their parents have no idea where their

parents are.

Some of them are so young they don't even know their parents' names so there's no way

to find them.

Yet, the biggest concern of this administration is that Sarah Huckabee Sanders had to miss

a meal.

Need Help to Forgive Yourself? Here are Four Keys - Duration: 5:32.

You wonder if you've forgiven yourself for your messed up past.

Or you question, if you will even be able to do that.

I want to offer four steps to help you understand why you need to get past this and how to get

there.

I asked the question of many counselees, did you forgive yourself?

The most common responses are, I'm not sure I can or I don't know.

Answering this question is vital to once deliverance in normal progression on the path to maturity

in discipleship and Christ.

I'm going to share four specific keys to help you overcome this hurdle.

If it's an issue for you or something that continues to haunt you and look at the doctrine

of forgiveness represents a Christianity 100, one principle for new and seasoned believers

alike.

Why do so many struggle to grasp the biblical reality of it?

As Christian counselors and deliverance ministers, we had above and beyond focused on helping

clients identify whom they need to forgive, why it's important, and how do they do that?

How does one implement forgiveness in Washington for the rest of their days?

Look at.

We've got a lot of articles on the website, a lot of videos on the importance of forgiveness

and how unforgiveness provides the demonic realm a legal

open door to torment us.

I suggest you take a look at the parable of the Unmerciful Servant in Matthew 18: verses

22 to 35.

Most clients, once they understand the importance and the fundamental tenant behind forgiveness,

they're willing to take that step to deal with abuse and attacks from others.

However many Bach when it comes to extending that same grace to themselves for past transgressions,

whether real or imagined here for building principals that I encourage each client to

at least embrace intellectually.

Number one, we are commanded to forgive.

It's a nonnegotiable if we want God's best for us and no answer, here is a real deal

killer.

Most people are willing to forgive others after a time.

Butter, unsure exactly how to do that.

Solid Biblical counsel backed up by phrases in scripture can help willing hearts overcome

most of the hurdles here.

Second of all, forgiveness is a choice not based upon emotions.

I find that many still cannot escape the false premise that true forgiveness is really based

on how they feel about the one that they forgive.

This theology is based upon quicksand, not the word and leads to long seasons of dope,

because there emotions can be tossed to and fro like a way among the sea.

Once you've chosen to forgive someone for past sins against you, it is done forever.

Choosing not to dwell on the past is a crucial aspect of maintaining victory here.

Point you towards Philippians three, verses 13 and 14.

Number three, Christ has forgiven us as we forgive others.

In Matthew six, verses 24 and 25, Jesus instructs that if we forgive men their trespasses, God

will forgive ours, Short, succinct, and clear.

We must accept this directive like all others in the Bible by faith because he chose to

capture it there for us in fourth, and this is very important, believe it, it's an offense

to God and prideful if we do not extend this grace of forgiveness to ourself.

This one can be tricky.

I'll admit it.

It's false pride, I believe, to presume that what God extends to others somehow does not

apply to us.

That is arrogance expressed quite clearly, but when he cannot see it, oftentimes it's

couched in perceptions of unworthiness, but the actual route is that we are feel we are

somehow unique or different from others that this doesn't apply to us.

We're special to God for sure, but must receive his an merited favor or mercy by faith in

his goodness alone.

I don't believe this has to be complicated.

What will we believe, what others say about us?

Our own thoughts about ourselves, which we need to understand that our thought life drives

our emotions, which we indicated we can't trust.

Alternatively, we by faith believe the word of God and what he says about our past and

us helping clients sort through and process wrong.

Understanding of forgiveness is one of our most significant challenges when dealing with

were with their issues.

Getting them to see their past sins through the eyes got they're forgiven, cleansed by

Jesus' blood in and those sins are forgotten presents a more daunting challenge.

Believe God's word and receive what it says about you and your past.

No substitute views or rationalization will be effective in helping you gain victory.

Need help.

We're only a few clicks away.

God bless you.

Seen It | Spill It: Jurassic World's Colin Trevorrow & J.A. Bayona Q&A (SPOILER ALERT) | MTV News - Duration: 9:30.

- Okay, come on.

- Okay.

(roaring)

- Argh!

Uh, uh!

- Are you okay?

- [Owen] I'm okay.

(light melodic music)

- Some movies just demand a deeper dive,

I'm Josh Hororwitz and on this episode of Seen It Spill It,

we're getting you all the answers you want

about Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

from director, JA Bayona

and writer/producer, Colin Trevorrow.

Ian Malcolm's return, new dinosaurs,

gruesome deaths, classic callbacks,

so let's get into it all, JA, Colin, welcome.

What out of Jurassic World

affected Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,

can you cite any specific examples?

- Yeah, a bunch of things, one is I felt like, you know,

Jurassic World was not really a suspense movie,

it was more of just a big action adventure movie

and the suspense and the tight, claustrophobic terror

of these sequences in the latter half of Jurassic Park

are such a big part of the DNA of the franchise

and that's just not something that we provided

the audience in that movie very much

and that was part of the motivation,

both to bring in JA and to bring the story

into a space that would allow for it.

There was one section in the script

from when they open the door

into that library with the indoraptor

all the way to the point, when Maisie, you know,

gets in the dumb waiter and goes into her room,

I think that was just the one section,

usually we write out the action sequences in detail,

that was the one where I just said,

this is like a blistering drum solo of Bayonian suspense,

(laughing)

like I just, and then so everything you see there

is JA just doing this.

- Amazing, you know, there are a number of, it seems,

visual nods to earlier Jurassic films in this,

how did those develop?

Was that sort of something when you're story-boarding,

thinking this could be a nice nod to Spielberg

and an inside kind of thing for the audience,

can you cite any specific ones that you wanted to include?

- One of the last shots of the movie

is you see the characters, Owen, Claire and Maisie in a car

and they look through the window

and they see these pteranodons flying over the ocean,

it's exactly the same shot that you see

at the end of Jurassic Park,

but in Jurassic Park, it's not pteranodons, it's birds,

- [Josh] Right.

- So it's like I was telling, okay,

this is an emotional connection with that film,

we smile watching that shot,

but the message is totally different,

it's not birds anymore, it's dinosaurs,

so it's the world upside down.

- [Josh] There's also, I don't know if I'm reading

too much into this, there seems to be a callback

to Raiders of the Lost Ark

in a shot of Owen running on the island,

- Yeah, sure. - Is that a nod to Raiders?

- There's a couple of those,

there's also like a big explosion,

when they are running towards the boat

and that's the same kind of framing that you have

in the explosion of the plane in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

- Right.

- You know, when you do one of these films,

you work on the story, you try to make it

the most effective possible on the screen,

but you try to have fun, - Right.

- so the audience will capture that, will get that too.

- The first shot of Claire in this film begins on her heels,

was that a way of kind of addressing Heelgate

from the last time or?

- No, it wasn't, it was JA's choice to,

he wanted to mirror her entrance from the first movie,

what was in our script was just

that the elevator didn't work

and that it was like it was ga-ga-ga-ga-ga,

it's all so smooth in the first one

- Right.

- and so that was communicating like

that she was in a different place in life.

But yeah, his call was to, well, let's see, you know,

let's bring her in kind of in that same way

and then the choice to wear heels again was Bryce,

you know, she had very clear opinions about this

and we support them.

- In something like this, I mean,

Pratt in particular, Chris essentially, the wit,

just in day to day life, is this the kind of thing

where like you can improvise a moment

or contribute something on set,

is there anything that Chris or Bryce or anybody

kind of brought to the table on the day,

that made the cut. - Yeah, yeah,

yeah and I gave her a lot of space

to the actors to do that,

because they work so well together,

they know so well each other and they have this chemistry,

that I, and of course, Pratt is so good improvising

that, it's just like, do two takes and the third one,

you do whatever you want, you know.

- Right, did any of those kind of third ones,

that would pop into you, that--

- Yeah, that line of, "You're the one who made me come."

- Yeah, yeah, yeah,

"You're the one who made me come here."

- Yeah. - Oh right, that's him?

- Yeah. - Amazing.

- No, but he's a lot of fun, but he's a very brilliant guy,

- He is a very brilliant guy. - brilliant guy,

I remember shooting that scene of the,

with the T-Rex inside the truck,

he was the guy who came to me and said,

"We need to finish this thing

"with me going through the mouth of the T-Rex, you know,"

- Amazing. - and I thought

that's brilliant, I don't know how we're going to do it,

but that's brilliant. (laughing)

- Easy for you to say. - We have to shoot

two days after, it was like, well, that's a lot of work,

but okay, let's do it.

- Thanks a lot, Chris. - Yeah

and he did it, he, - He did.

- that's him rolling, yeah, he actually did it,

it's an amazing stunt. - Yeah.

- [Josh] Were Jake Johnson and Lauren Lapkus

ever in the script?

- There was actually a brief moment,

when we had thought of Jake as Franklin's character

- Oh really?

- and very, very early on and then we were just like,

you know, we just wanna introduce new people,

we wanna have new, I don't wanna say youthful energy,

'cause he's a, (laughs) Jake's a friend of mine

and we're similar ages, but I think it's important

that we introduce new faces, yeah.

- We were talking about sort of like,

you know, these legacy characters,

is there ever any consideration of mentioning characters,

that don't necessarily appear on screen,

mentioning the Alan Grant etc.

as just sort of a nod in the script?

- We felt like this was Malcolm's return,

this was his moment. - Let him have his moment.

- You know, let him have his moment,

I feel that way with everyone, especially with Laura,

in that she never got to have her own movie,

- Yeah. - and you know,

and that I identified as being something that's important

and I feel like you know, this moment with Goldblum,

because he had this very, you know,

clear set of ethical questions,

that he was able to pose for everybody,

we just wanted to put the spotlight on him.

- In your heads, do you know where the original kids are

in your universe, like what happened to them?

- You know, they probably didn't go to Jurassic World.

- No, let's hope not. (laughing)

- They don't want anything to do with that.

- They're smart enough to not do that.

Do you feel like an obligation

to pay off certain expectations in terms of,

like we talked about the legacy characters,

it feels like some in the audience might feel robbed,

if by the end of this third film,

sure, we get Ian Malcolm, but we never get to see,

- Right. - Alan Grant.

- I totally agree with that, I would feel robbed too.

- Okay, so read into that what you will.

If you skip through the credits,

there is a short moment worth sticking around for.

Was that always scripted?

Were there different ideas for what the last visual

would be, when you leave the theater?

- We changed some of the imaginary of the epilogue,

there is, we did some changes.

- Was it always a dinosaur in Vegas?

Was that always the-- - Well, I think at one point,

it was in the end, it was in the section,

where Malcolm is talking about - Yeah.

- the change. - Part of that montage

kind of thing? - It just didn't fit.

- Yeah, we took out that moment from the epilogue,

because it was the only moment that was shot at nighttime

and it felt bad, it felt wrong.

- Got it, it just stuck out, yeah.

- So we decided to take it out

and there was a moment I too coordinate,

this was we have these shots,

why don't we put them at the end?

It's gonna be like an extra,

like a gift for the fans, you know.

- Right, any others like-- - you've like named

Jurassic World: Vegas now.

- Right, I was gonna say. - All in Vegas.

- I was gonna say, is the third one called

Jurassic World: Vegas? - Oh yes,

I'll let people, I'll let-- - I like the irony,

that you think that they're in Paris, you know, so,

- Right. (laughing)

- and of course, it's impossible

to get the tyranos in Paris,

you discover that it's not actually

- Right. - the real

Eiffel Tower, you know.

- [Josh] I noticed in the credits,

Guillermo del Toro is thanked.

- Yeah, I do it all the time, you know,

he produced my first movie, you know,

he's kind of like a mentor to me

and it's so great from time to time

to call him and ask for advice, you know

and I showed him the cut, yeah, and he loved it.

- Any specific notes or ideas of his, that made it in?

- No, I remember that he just, he was watching the movie

and after 10 minutes, he look at me

and he say, "Okay, relax." (laughing)

he said that, "Bayona, relax." (laughing)

- So you certainly live up to the title,

by the end of this film, we are truly in a Jurassic World.

What are the implications going forward

for this third film in the trilogy,

given where we leave things off

in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom?

- Well, I feel like, you know,

J has found a way to humanize the idea of cloning

and to make us care about the dinosaurs

in a way that we never have before,

we started down that path in Jurassic World

with the apatosaurus and in this film,

I think he's found a way to really, you know,

shift our relationship with the dinosaurs

and have us consider them as animals

- Right. - and I think

that just brings in a whole other kind of dynamic,

a whole other world in which, you know,

we now have to interact with these creatures

in the same way we interact with animals today

and they're in the jungle with Mighty Chew,

they're in zoos, they're used for agriculture and you know,

medical study and potentially war, all of those reasons,

but just the very idea that like, you know,

don't go into that field, - Right.

- is, I think it's very wish fulfillment.

- Going back to being a fan of this franchise,

for the next one, letting this guy get back in the trenches,

what do you wanna see, just I'm curious,

just like having gone through this,

what would you like to see in the next Jurassic?

- You know, I wanna be surprised,

I think the possibilities are incredible,

when you see the movie at the end,

you open the gate to a world that you've never seen before,

it's very interesting,

I think it's gonna be great to see the movie.

- What you're not gonna see

is all the sweaty, late-night phone calls

from me to Bayona, like oh my God, what do I do?

(laughing)

That'll never happen.

(dynamic music)

Andrew's Beauty Pageant | JEOPARDY! - Duration: 0:53.

- Andrew King is our champion (laughing) with $1,198.

I'm going back in your life now.

You were involved in a boys beauty pageant.

What happened in the beauty pageant?

- Well, I had one other competitor...

(audience laughing)

- [Alex] Not much of a pageant was it?

- It was boys, the boys division's always small.

So, I was obviously more handsome than him,

even a little taller, which is also hard to believe.

And I got to the end of the runway and I did a move

that one of the kids in my first grade class did

all the time, and I thought it was cool so I did it.

Ended up losing the pageant. (audience laughing)

- You remember what the move was?

- It was like this.

(Amy laughing) (audience laughing)

At the end of the runway.

- That would lose any pageant.

That Time I Honored Michael Jackson | Story Time with Jamie Foxx - Duration: 2:47.

>> BET ended up being the only show

to actually give Michael Jackson a legitimate sendoff.

It was a moment I'll never forget.

>> HELLO BOYS AND GIRLS Hello Crips and Bloods.

Hello Mormons, Jewish, Methodists, Baptists whatever you

worship. This is story time with

Jamie Foxx.

>> I mean to be honest with you

it's not necessarily a crazy story.

It was just so impactful.

When I was hosting the BET Awards.

I remember everybody coming in and it was it was Teddy Riley

and with people coming in and just having a great time.

And then unfortunately Michael Jackson transitioned.

And it was a moment where everyone was so let down

and so hurt. Just seeing Teddy Riley

who had just come from a rehearsal with Michael Jackson.

And to hear it, it was like surreal

like no way this happened.

Here's the thing you got to understand

BET didn't know this, but history was on our side.

Everybody's heads were down I said guys listen I'm gonna take it

I'm going to take it upon myself to take whatever bad and good

and ugly comes out of this. I'm going to come out.

We're going to toast Michael Jackson

but we're going to do it in a fun way.

We're going to do it in a way that's happy. And in my mind

I was thinking 10, 15, 20 years from now

when we look back at that episode

it will be an episode of true somber but at the same time fun.

it went good in the house it was great energy.

Some people didn't understand why we were so joyous

at that time we wanted to make it a celebration.

The greatest moment though was when Janet Jackson came out

and the moment was absolutely amazing.

BET ended up being the only show to actually give Michael Jackson

a legitimate sendoff.

Now granted we would have loved to have more time to make it pop

but it was it was a genuine.

moment. And it was a moment like I said

I'll never forget. The following year

BET even got even more correct.

We were able to let the young Chris Brown

do a fantastic tribute to Michael.

And like I said it was amazing to watch a person who had been

so impacted by my Michael

and just really sort of cleaned up my mess.

if you would. Black Entertainment Television was

The only entity out of all of them

to take the time out to make sure that we didn't miss

the moment of celebrating

one of the greatest entertainers in the world.

Edit Photos & Annotate Screenshots - Webinar - Duration: 25:05.

Welcome everyone and thank you for joining me today. My name is Sarah and

I'm the Emerging Technologies Librarian here at Benedictine. Today we're going to

explore some free photo editing and screen capture tools. Alright, let's get

started. As you may know, Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom are powerful photo editing

programs, but they come with a cost. Fortunately there are some free

alternatives, one of which is Pixlr. Before we jump into the tool itself

let's look at a few examples of images created or enhanced using Pixlr. So as I

scroll through, I see some images where this moon may have been placed on top of

this image and the lighting enhanced.

Again there might have been some lighting enhancements here. Perhaps some

color enhancements. This may have an overlay over it that may darken it or

desaturate some of the coloring. This one definitely looks desaturated. This might

have an overlay of some little speckles here. This one might have an entirely

different image placed inside of this mirror.

And here's an example of a color splash technique where you see some color

popping through while the rest of the image is in black and white. So that just

kind of gives you an idea of the kind of edits you can make to photos using Pixlr.

Pixlr is free, it does not require an account, and it's web-based, so there's

nothing to install. To access Pixlr, you'll simply go to pixlr.com. On the

Pixlr landing page, scroll down to see your two options.

Pixlr editor is for advanced editing with features that are comparable to

Photoshop. Most of the techniques I'm going to show you today will be done

using Pixlr Editor. However I'm going to start in Pixlr Express, which is great

for quick and easy edits. So I'm gonna go ahead and launch Pixlr Express. The first

technique I'm going to show you today is focal blurring. As you can see in

this before-and-after, I applied a circular blur to draw attention to the

conductor. I'm gonna go back to Pixlr to show you how I did this. Okay. So here

is the landing page for Pixlr Express. I'm going to browse for my photo because

I already have it saved on my computer.

Okay. So to add a circular blur to this photo

I'm going to go to the bottom and click Adjustment > Focal and then I can drag

this circle around the photograph. Notice how placing the focus in

different areas changes the meaning of the image. Also the blurred area can be a

nice place for a logo or text. So I'm going to increase the blur to really

emphasize this tool. You can adjust these circles. Okay I'm going to go ahead and

apply those changes. So, as I said, you could add some text or a logo in the

blurred area. To do that, I'll click Adjustment > Add Image and I'm going to

browse for my image. I already have a logo ready to go. I'm gonna make it a bit

smaller and drag it into place. Apply. And that's all. So I would

encourage you to explore some of the Adjustment options as well as the

Effects and Overlays. It's similar to using Instagram filters but with more

options. When you're finished, you'll click Save and you'll have an

opportunity to save a copy on your computer. Okay. I'm going to go ahead and

close that and head back to my PowerPoint. This next technique is

probably my favorite. It's called color splash. As you can see in each example

the photo is grayscale except for one or a few pops of color to draw in the eye.

In this example here with so much going on in the photograph you probably

wouldn't even notice these people if there wasn't a technique like color

splash applied to them. Here is my before-and-after using an image that I imagine

might be used for a nutrition event, for example. I'm going to go in and show you

how this is done. So I'm back on the pixlr.com landing page. I'll scroll down

and this time I'm going to open Pixlr Editor. I'm going to open an image from

my computer and position it in place. I'm going to zoom out just a little. So the

layout and features of Pixlr Editor are very similar to what you would find in

Photoshop. You have your tools on the left, various options in the menu bar and

some panels along the right. For personal preference, I like to remove all the

panels except Layers. Okay, the first step for the color splash technique is to

duplicate the layer. Now you can do this in two ways. You can right-click your

layer and click Duplicate Layer or you can go to Layer and click Duplicate

Layer. Okay so I have my top layer selected, so I'm ready to make this top

layer grayscale. To do that, I'll go up to Adjustment > Desaturate to remove all of

the color. I can turn that layer on and off with this checkmark. And so you can

see that I still have that color version underneath. Finally I'll select the

Eraser tool. I'm going to increase the size in this case to 200 and now all I

need to do is click to erase away the parts where I want color to shine

through. So I'm using a larger brush to grab the main parts and then I'm gonna

zoom in and switch to a smaller brush to get the edges. I won't do the whole apple

now, but you can get the idea. Alright. I'm gonna go ahead and close

this and head back to the PowerPoint. Another useful technique is color

replace. In this example, I'd like to use this image to promote the library's

audio books, but I'd prefer if the book were Benedictine red, so I went ahead

and used the color replace tool to change it from blue to red. I'm

back in Pixlr Editor. I'm gonna open the image from my computer. The first

step is to select the red color I want to use. I can do this by clicking this

color square on the left toolbar. I'm selecting a red that I'd like to use.

Another option I have to select a color is to use this eyedropper tool or Color

Picker Tool. The Color Picker Tool allows you to select any color that's on the

screen. So you can notice how this box is changing each time I select a different

part of the screen. But I'm going to select the red in this bookmark. Next

I'll select the Color Replace Tool, which looks like a little paintbrush with a

small square of color. I'm going to increase my brush size to 400 or so just

because in this case the area that I want to cover is very large. I'm going to

click and drag my mouse all over this book. Doesn't matter if I go over the

lines. It's looking for any of that blue color and each time it encounters the

blue pixels, it's going to change it to red. So I'm still holding my mouse down

as I'm doing this. And it's as simple as that. Now this works best for

solid color areas but it can be done with more complex areas as well.

Moving on, next we're going to remove a solid color background so it becomes

transparent. Let's head in to Pixlr Editor once again. I'm gonna

open the image for my computer. I'm gonna zoom out just a little. The first

step is to unlock this layer. It has a little lock icon next to it. If I were

to leave it locked and choose the eraser. If I were to erase now

you'll notice everywhere I erase is just white. I'm gonna undo that by pressing

CTRL + Z on my keyboard. But if i unlock it, when I erase I see the checkerboard

pattern underneath which means transparency and that's what I'm looking

for. I'm looking to create a transparent background. Next I'll click the Magic

Wand Tool, which looks like a little sparkler, and I'll select the area that I'd like

to remove. As you can see, it got a little too much of the white area because it

went into the breadboard itself. So that means the tolerance isn't quite right.

I'm gonna CTRL + D to remove my selection. If I were to increase the tolerance

quite a bit and then click the white area you'll see that it selects far too

much of the image. But if I move the tolerance down to zero and click the

white area, it doesn't select quite enough. There's a white rim that runs

along the image. Through trial-and-error I know that 19 is the best tolerance level

for this particular image, so now it gets as much of the white space as I want. Now

I press Delete on my keyboard and all I see is the checkerboard

pattern which indicates transparency. Now I would File > Save and choose PNG

because PNG supports that transparency in the background. Otherwise, if I were to

save it as a JPEG, it would be a white background still. Alright I'm gonna go

ahead and close this. The next technique is the application of overlays. Apps like

Instagram and tools like Pixlr Express, which we saw earlier, come loaded with

preset filters or overlays. These overlays can make your photo look

vintage or brighter or grainier or tinted a color and so forth, but in Pixlr

Editor, like in Photoshop, you can create your own overlays using any image you

want. In this example I overlaid a business graphic on this photo of a

training session to emphasize what I imagine is the subject matter of the

session. Once again I'll open the image from my computer.

To remove some of the yellowness of this photograph, I'm gonna go up to Adjustment

> Color Balance and increase the blue and click OK.

That way it makes it look a little bit brighter, a little bit crisper, gets rid

of some of that yellowness that often happens. Now to add the overlay. I want to

add that as a layer of its own. To do that, I'll click Layer > Open Image as

Layer. I already have my layer ready to go. And here it is. Now I can move this

around, but as you can see it doesn't have any tools for me to make it larger.

To get those tools, you'll go to Edit > Free Transform. As I hold Shift,

I'm gonna drag to get this to fit the whole screen. There we go. Now I'll click

this menu icon in the lower left corner of the layers panel. This will give you

some additional options that often come in handy, like the opacity. But today we're

going to use Mode. We're gonna select Mode: Overlay. This is still a little too

blue for me, so I'm going to go up to Adjustment > Hue/Saturation

and decrease the saturation of the overlay layer. By desaturating it, I'm

removing some of the color from that very blue overlay. And that's how you

create an overlay effect.

I found this business graphic on pixabay.com. Pixabay is a website that

provides public domain images. That means you are free to use these images without

citing the original creator. As I mentioned, you can use any image as an

overlay, but often textures work nicely. A search in Pixabay for the word "texture"

or "watercolor background," for example, can yield some good options.

Our final technique is actually two: spot healing and gradients. Here is my before-

and-after. I applied a white gradient and corrected a few imperfections that you

probably can't notice when the photo is this small. I'll open this photo.

I'm gonna zoom out a little bit. Once again, I'm gonna take away some of the

yellowness in this photo. I'm gonna go up to Adjustment > Color Balance and increase

the blue. Okay that looks about right to me. Next I'm gonna remove a blue spot

that is sitting on her hair. It's probably something on

the lens or some sort of a glare. So let's go ahead and zoom in quite a bit.

I'm not sure if you can see this, but there's a little royal blue dot on

her hair right here. So often you'll have a small imperfection that you

just want to get rid of. So to do that you can go to this little band-aid

symbol here; that's the Spot Heal Tool. Click that, hover over the area, and click

and it gets rid of it. It's using the pixels from around that circle to

cover that spot. So right here we have this little white spot and I can do the

same thing here and it gets that spot. You can use this same spot

healer to get rid of larger areas as well. So let's see if I scroll down. So,

for example I could remove this logo--not that I would necessarily want to do that,

but I could. So if I drag over this and let go it disappears.

Let's do the 40 as well. And there it goes. Next I'm going to apply a gradient to this

image. To do this, I first want to create a new layer. To create a new layer, you

can click this paper icon at the bottom next to the trashcan. You could also go

up to Layer and choose New Layer. I have my new layer selected, so I'll choose the

Gradient Tool in my toolbar, click the gradient at the top, and I'm going to

choose one of these preset gradients. I'm gonna choose the one that's white to

transparent. To apply your gradient, you're gonna click and drag as

far as you want the gradient to reach and let go. You can apply it more than

once to add a stronger gradient on there. So now, within this gradient area, I

could if I wanted to add some text or a logo so I'm gonna add a logo. To do

that, I'm going to go to Layer > Open Image as a Layer and add a logo. So as we

discussed before, I can move this image around but I don't have those tools to

be able to make this graphic smaller. To get those

tools, I'll go to Edit > Free Transform and now I can hold shift and drag down and I

can place it and by the corner of my image. Each of these is on its own layer

so I can turn them on and off to compare the options. Perhaps I wonder if I

really need the gradient. I can turn that off. Yes, I see I do need something there

because the logo blends too much into the background, so I'll turn that back on.

Or perhaps I decide I want to try a different color gradient or I would like

to try a blur. I can try all those different options on different layers,

turn them on and off to compare. When I'm ready to save, I'll go to File > Save. I

have a few different format options. JPEG is good for most photos. PNG is good if

you have transparency in your photograph, and PXD is an important one for editing.

Save as a PXD if you plan to continue editing your photo in Pixlr in the

future. PXD files only open in Pixlr. And again here's a summary of those save

options. Note that Pixlr automatically compresses

your images to 72 dpi. Pixlr also has a mobile app for Android and Apple devices.

This video shows me using the app. My experience with it has been very

positive. You can brighten your photos by moving

your finger over areas you want to brighten, which I'm going to demonstrate.

I bumped up the intensity in this example so you could really see,

hopefully, how it's brightening the building, the mountains and the sky in

the background. You can also apply a circular blur very efficiently in the

app. We'll see that in a moment.

Here I am trying out a filter. And here is where I'm putting that circular

blur on the image. In the before-and-after example in this slide

on the left, I took this photo with my phone,

opened it in the Pixlr app, I brightened it, added a circular blur, and posted it on

the library's Instagram page. It's a pretty nice app if you're looking for

something to enhance your photographs before posting them on social media or

elsewhere. The last tool I'd like to share with you today is Jing. Jing is a

free screen capture tool by TechSmith, the same company that provides Camtasia

and Snagit. Once you install Jing, it sits at the top or side of your screen. In

this case it's sitting on the side of my screen right here. If I hover over it, it

expands. I can also drag it and place it on the other side of my screen if I

wanted to. To take a screenshot, I'd hover over this little sun icon and

choose Capture. Now I can select a portion of my screen, choose Capture

Image. And now I can annotate this image. I can choose to add an arrow. I can

change the color of that arrow. I can add a frame. Change that to blue.

I can highlight, and again there are additional colors for highlighting as

well. And I can add text and can change the color of the text, adjust the

size, and there are quite a few font options as well. Once you've finished

editing your screenshot, you can save it to your computer. With Jing you can also

record your screen for up to five minutes. So instead of choosing Capture

Image, you'll choose Capture Video. However, there are no editing tools for

videos, so what you record is what you get, but often that can be enough if

you're just trying to demonstrate something for someone quickly. I used to

use a different program for screenshots, but I recently converted to Jing and

haven't looked back. And that's all the tools we'll be covering today. Thank you

for tuning in to the Library's workshop. If you have questions about anything I

discussed today, please feel free to contact me.

Not OK Google: Massive outage turns smart home kit utterly dumb - Duration: 3:01.

Google's entire Home infrastructure has suffered a serious outage, with millions of customers on Wednesday morning complaining that their smart devices have stopped working

At the time of writing, the service is still down, and appears to have been knackered for at least the past 10 hours

Users in Google's home state of California started complaining that their Google Home, Mini, and Chromecast devices were not working around midnight Pacific Time on Tuesday, and the issue appeared in every country in which the Google Home devices are sold

But it was only when the United States started waking up on Wednesday morning – the US has the vast majority of Google Home devices – that the reports started flooding in, pointing to an outage of the entire system

Google has confirmed its systems are down, but has so far provided no other information, saying only that it is investigating the issue

A graph showing two things: an outage and a concentration of devices in the US

Source: Downdetector.com  It is possible that the outage is related to a similar, unusual outage at Slack earlier today

So far, though, the most likely cause is a software update that Google published around the same time as the first complaints of downtime came in, an update that added the Spanish language to its devices

Netizens have been reporting that even after a reboot the devices don't work, suggesting either that the entire Home infrastructure has fallen over – which seems incredibly unlikely given that fact that it is Google we're talking about and it has massive worldwide network redundancy to fall back on – or the devices themselves have gone awry following an update

We will update this article as and when Google provides any more information. In the meantime everyone is just going to have to shelve their voice-controlled Google assistants – and find out the time by looking at their watch, or check their calendar on their phone or laptop, or turn up the thermostat using the ancient but reliable technology known as fingers
