British OK Vs American OK Vs French OK - Duration: 2:33.

OK, Perhaps it is difficult to find someone who never used, heard or seen this one of

the most common English abbreviations.

Today, a combination of two simple letters hides a whole range of feelings, they show

that "everything is good", "I'm healthy", "I'm cheerful," "I did it".

What is the origin of ok?

Hey there, This is Bhaskar Banerjee and you are watching YouTube Channel Bhaskban.

The ubiquitous British scientists could not pass by such an interesting question.

Through long research they have established that this is a native English word and appeared

in the lexicon of Shakespeare's contemporaries even in the time of Queen Elizabeth I.

But American scientists do not want to give the English priority in such a responsible

matter and conduct their own research.

According to them, "OK" is a typical American word.

There are versions about his Indian origin: with a positive answer to the question, the

harsh leaders often responded to white-faced "oken".

A professor of English from Columbia University associates the appearance of an abbreviation

with dry cookies Orrin Kendall, which were supplied to the army of northerners during

the Civil War.

The French also did not stay away from the dispute and say that the expression arose

during the fighting.

If the day went well and the dead were not, the report wrote the phrase "zero Killed",

which eventually turned into "OK".

DIYで猫部屋の壁に手作りキャットウォーク part4 ロイヤル棚柱で可動式に【Eng CC】 - Duration: 18:51.

It's been a while since I worked on this last time,

But today I'll continue constructing the Cat Walk for Neko-Kichi's room.

Last time I completed the latter to climb up to the top

And the real Cat Walk is what extends from there.

I've only been able to make the pathway for now,

But Neko-Kichi seems to likes it already.

I can't wait to show him the view from the observatory

Although that might still be a while from now.

The railings will extend above the windows from where Neko-Kichi is, avoiding the AC,

But for logistical reasons I'll be preparing the next part of the Cat Walk first.

Above the door, the very end of the Walk,

That's where I'll be working on today.

This area will have the most space amongst the whole structure, so he can relax.

Neko-Kichi "Are you finally working on this again?"

Neko-Kichi "I can't wait till its done."

I'll start with the largest board here.

The size is 18 x 300 x 900mm

I'm going to be attaching the boards to this large railing support for this.

Once I've checked the depth of the drywall, I'll screw them in.

I'm only using one rail support on the left side,

But that's because we have the ledge on the right side.

The board has to be removed later, so it's only lightly securing for now.

Now let's move onto putting boards up on this wall.

So far we've been using these types of rail supports to hold up the boards,

But I'm trying a different method for the Cat Walk on this wall.

For that, we need this item.

The Bracket Mounts by Royal.

And these would be the rail support for this wall, made specifically for wooden shelves.

Let's attach these metal parts to the vertical studs.

There are mounts that run across the wall which might not be the best look,

but the great thing about this is I can freely adjust the heights.

If the wall had more vertical space it's even more useful,

And it's easily customizable even after it's mounted.

We can't attach it yet though.

I need to modify the brackets first to fit the wall here.

I'll change the miter saw blade to one for cutting metal.

Oops, wrong one.

This one.

I have to make it slightly shorter as well.

Let's see how the first one fits…

Perfect fit.

I'll do the same for the rest of the 8 mounts as well.

I found that it's actually easier to use a disc grinder for this process.

Once the mounts are modified, let's make a DIY ruler out of scrap wood for when we attach them to the wall.

Cutting it so the length is 455mm (between the studs) minus the width of the mounts.

Using this ruler, we'll now secure the mounts on the wall at equal distance from each other.

Unfortunately, when I took a finer look at the studs, the distances between them weren't exact,

And these two were especially off by a lot,

So just for these I will follow the positions accordingly.

It would be easier to secure them all at the centre of the studs, so they are at equal distance,

If we have them all the at the same distance, it's more convenient if we decide to use the boards to go with another rail support.

Now this is where the studs aren't where they're supposed to be.

I'm going to skip this one for now, and work on the other easier parts first.

So for the section I skipped,

I will be lining it up with the right side only.

All we have left is the two mounts on the right.

However I've come to realize I made a huge mistake.

I screwed them in without thinking twice,

And I didn't feel it go in.

I was convinced there was a wide stud behind this section of the wall,

But it turns out there were studs only on the right half of the wall.

I made an unnecessary hole in the wall due to this error,

But not to worry!

If I use white caulking to fill it….

It's as if nothing ever happened.

Once we secure the last two mounts,

We'll peel off the unnecessary masking tapes from the wall.

With the mounts put up, we need to add the brackets and boards,

But before that,

I'll prepare the wooden boards for the section above the window.

I'll be using the longest board that's 1820mm long,

And two pieces of scrap wood.

First off let's process one of the wooden boards.

This thin wooden piece that I just cut out, it is for the purpose of balancing the height with the window frame.

I'm preparing the grooves to join the gap between the long board,

and add the biscuits to this board.

Make size adjustments to the other board, and attach it to the long board on the opposite side.

So now, we can attach the brackets onto the mounts.

First off, the board that is farthest to the right, match it to the height of the window frame.

Now basically just set up the brackets freely to your likings,

but I will set it up the easiest way for now.

It is so fun to decide where to place the brackets.

Well, we have reached to the middle span,

we will place two boards on the upper and lower ends

The bottom can be a pathway, while the upper part will be a comfortable and relax space.

However, the limitation of the height makes it very hard to decide the position.

After making slight adjustments,

it slowly started to look like what I imagined.

All the brackets are in place!

Next step is to prepare the boards that are to be placed onto the brackets.

By the way I might set the boards up so he can jump across them,

so to be safe I made the boards to be 200mm width

The first board is complete.

We will make around eight additional boards with the same style.

Let's quickly put all the completed boards in place.

Now we have made shelves that can be easily replaced.

The brackets are automatically locked, and it cannot be easily unlocked and fall off,

so we won't have to worry about the boards falling off by shakes or hits.

Place all the boards one after another.

Looks like I have placed the brackets incorrectly for the relaxation space.

This is where I place a longer bracket to match the width of the board.

This way, all the boards have been secured onto the brackets.

The last board will be secured onto the left bracket,

while the right side rests on the window frame and be secured with an angle tie.

And finally…

All the work for today is completed!

This is today's creation of the Royal Cat Walk.

Neko-Kichi "This looks quite cool."

Neko-Kichi "An extra large new attraction. "

Neko-Kichi "But this…"

Neko-Kichi "Where should I actually start? "

Neko-Kichi "It looks like I can't start anywhere…"

Now that Neko-Kichi has taken a look at the Cat Walk that was made in the room,

next time we will connect all the parts together.

Now that all the relaxing spots have been completed,

next step would be to work on how to get them to eagerly go on it.

I have not forgotten, but I installed the first board here.

More or less I have planned to finish the whole project next time.

Why North Koreans leave both Koreas: Int'l film festival opens near inter-Korean border - Duration: 2:32.

Adding to the atmosphere of peace and reconciliation between the two Koreas, is a film festival

that has opened near the DMZ.

According to our Oh Soo-young, the annual event is paying extra attention on the reclusive

state and its people this year.

South Korea is the most common destination for most North Korean defectors who escape

the hermit kingdom in search of a freer and better life.

But a North Korean woman living in the Netherlands decided to leave the South four years ago,...

burnt out from the pressure to adjust to the capitalist system.

"I thought South Korea would be our last stop.

We couldn't bear our lives in the North and fled.

In the South, we were free.

But I realized freedom is not everything."

She's one of the defectors introduced by Seoul-based filmmaker Steve Choi at the DMZ International

Documentary FIlm Festival this year.

More than 140 films from 39 countries are being showcased at the 8-day festival, less

than an hour away from the border between the two Koreas.

"Amid the ongoing rapprochement on the Korean Peninsula,... there's particular interest

on films that show the lives of North Koreans."

I came hoping to indirectly experience the reality of North Korea and defectors through

film."

Through his 85-min piece, Choi sheds light on why so many defectors decide to leave South

Korea, an estimated 2-thousand out of the 30-thousand defectors registered here.

The filmmaker says most fail to adjust to the fast-paced life in the South -- the pressure

to get a good education, find a high-paying job, and move up the social ladder.

The so-called glass wall of discrimination and distrust toward defectors hinders them

from advancing.

"This one defector kid I filmed was teased for having North Korean parents.

Even though she was born here.

A lot of South Koreans told me they were not aware of it.

They didn't know these problems exist.

I guess it was the same for me as well.

It's probably just how indifferent we are about them- about their lives."

Choi hopes his film will help change that perception, saying defectors must be seen

-- not as helpless victims, law breakers or social misfits -- but as ordinary people trying

to find their place in the world, much like the rest of us.
