SUVs make for great family cars.
They've got the height, they've got the space
and even provide you with a sense of security against
those drunk elephants on EDSA.
Now throw in good looks into the mix and well you're really out of excuses.
As is with this, the 2018 Mazda CX-9.
Ah ah! Twins Basil, Twins!
Mazda recently released an option to the grand daddy of their line up,
a more affordable 4x2 CX-9 Sport Touring.
Now I myself have been a fan of the CX-9 for quite some time.
Doesn't help that the President and CEO of Mazda Philippines actually
took me around on a drive in this same car in KL,
he's actually a pretty cool dude.
But really, what I want to know is if Top Gun: Maverick over here can keep up with the original.
Almost identical, the only thing that sets them apart
on the front clip are the accents found on the chin.
While the AWD has it in chrome, the FWD has it in black.
They both have HIDs, DRLs and tiny but powerful cute little LED fog lamps.
Now down the side is where it gets easier to set them apart.
The chrome and black accents do continue and both cars do have repeaters
on the side mirrors but the FWD sits on 18s while the AWD sits on 20s.
Both have 220mm of ground clearance but the 20s definitely kill it.
Now at the back, you've got sleek lamps on a very shapely rear complemented by a twin exhaust.
Open it up and you've got about 200L of space.
Fold the 3rd row and you're dabbling at about 800L of space.
If you fold the second row, well now you're in the boat load of space or rather pool load of space.
Now the one difference between the two of them
at the rear is a power tailgate, the AWD has it.
I wish that they have kept that along with the 20" wheels on the FWD.
I also wish we kept these guys in Metro Manila.
Useless.
Both AWD and FWD are identical in 3rd row comfort and convenience.
There are cup holders in either sides and really not much anything else.
You've got space for 2 small frames like myself and that's about it.
Now while leather doesn't fall short because it's up here and it is back here as well,
what does fall short is the air vents, there are none back here.
And in a country like the Philippines, this place can get stuffy really fast.
Now the seats are obviously very comfortable.
You've got lots of leg room, you've got lots of head room, that's my normal driving position over there.
They are somewhat bolstered but not too much
so getting in and out of the car is not a problem, great too for senior citizens.
Now I'm in the AWD but the FWD also does have the same amenities like 2 cup holders here,
charging ports found here, 2 of them 2.1 amp.
You've got your air vents and air controls down front.
Now unlike the FWD, the AWD has privacy screens and a nice chocolate accent on the door.
This was actually my seat during the drive with the President
and let me tell you fighting the urge to sleep from back here while he was driving, no contest.
You're going to lose that fight quick, fast and in a hurry.
Now up front in the AWD, not all differences are that subtle.
For instance, the first thing that will catch your eye are the brown accents
that you can find on the dash and on the doors which continue from the back.
Also there is a heads up display for the driver which is available only
on the AWD for your comfort and convenience.
Speaking of comfort, this 8-way power adjustable seat
goes perfect with the 12 speaker BOSE system.
Now the FWD on the other hand, still maintains the 8-inch infotainment system
which doubles as a reverse camera but is devoid of several toys.
Namely lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring,
and (he meant 2 speakers)
So now you're only down to 6 and oh, no BOSE system too.
The chairs are devoid of 2 movements as well because this thing is down to 6
and this one is down to 4, and also there is no sun roof.
But when you step inside and hold on to that steering wheel, you get
what you've come to expect from most Mazdas which is that it's plush,
it's got a premium feel to it and it's also very ergonomic.
Save for one thing I found, the 12V socket.
Check this out.
What's that about?
You'd think that by driving this, the 4x2 FWD, that you'd be a little down on power.
You'd be very wrong.
See, the engine that drives the AWD is the exact same engine that drives this, the FWD.
Which is an inline 4, 2.5L SKYACTIV turbo charged engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission
that pushes out 231 horses and 420nm of torque.
Now the steering on the FWD is a wee bit heavier than that on the AWD,
well because of the load up front.
But turns with or without banks, not a problem at all.
The car fells very centered, balanced and very well planted really.
Which we've been able to get a return of 11.5km/L.
Not bad.
Now compared to the FWD variant, this AWD is over a 100 kilos heavier.
That's basically 2 sacks of rice but it's not as if you can feel it either.
Because the i-ACTIV AWD system on this thing,
man it wants to sprint from one corner to the next.
Not walk, not drive, it wants to sprint! It's amazing!
Now it's not a Miata, obviously stupido.
The wheelbase of both cars is 2,930mm so when you're driving it it doesn't feel that long,
it doesn't feel like you're sitting on 9.5ft of wheelbase.
The width, yeah that you can really tell it's wide because of the wide center console,
the comfort for the driver and the passenger, you've got so much comfort in the 2nd row.
So that, yeah you can really tell it's wide. But the length, no.
It doesn't feel that long and it doesn't feel like it weighs 4,000lbs either
because this thing you can still point,
shoot and bury the throttle while still being able to maintain
9.5km/L over the same distance covered by the FWD.
Now getting seat time in both variants, and now driving the FWD,
I can honestly say that I can use one adjective to describe how both cars feel on the road
that you don't normally use on SUVs, which is fun.
Both cars are absolutely fun to drive. They really are.
Although I am still a huge fan of the original I will give the CX-9 Sport Touring a thumbs up,
specially with the numbers that it can bring in.
Allow me to elaborate.
The CX-9 AWD comes in at PHP2,830,000 which roughly translates to PHP1,144.53/cc.
Now this guy comes in at PHP2,350,000 which translates to PHP944.53/cc.
Which means the sequel has the potential to be a hit.

Hello my name's Mark welcome to my review channel
today we're going to take a look at the Alcatel 5
The 5 represents the
very best of Alcatel it has a nice 5.7
inch display which looks fantastic
it feels great in the hand I love the
re-design I think this is the
best-looking phone Alcatel have produced
for a long time unfortunately a time of
review it was only running Android
version 7 and if you go and check for
system updates there's currently none
available I don't know if they're
planning to put this on eight or even
nine which is coming out soon but
hopefully they will update it it uses a
USB type-c port on the bottom and you
still have the headphone jack on the top
they've bucked the trend on that one the
back is a plastic but I think it looks
really nice it's actually quite nice to
see something that isn't so glass on the
back there you've got a camera flash and
fingerprint scanner I love the little
metal trim they've put around because it
gives it a slightly more premium feel
for something that's very much a budget
handset fingerprint scanner on this is
really good once you've got your finger
programmed in it unlocks the phone very
quickly alternatively you can use face
key which is basically a face unlock and
that also works very quickly it's great
to see this feature on something that
costs less than 200 pounds. In terms of
the camera I took it out and about took
some Instagram shots and overall they
were okay the colors weren't quite as
punchy as I might have hoped but I think
considering the price you're always
going to get a slightly poorer quality
camera compared to top-end handsets but
I think it does the job quite nicely I
love the styling of this it looks a
little bit like an Xperia XA1 and
you have actually two cameras on the
front and that allows you to switch to a
wide-angle mode it will do that
automatically if it detects multiple
faces or you can trigger it and take
your own shots and there's narrow and
there's wide. So you know I love a good
comparison test. I've got the Alcatel 5 up against the OnePlus 6

The one on the left or the one on the right? I'm walking down a
busy road so there should be some background
noise so here's the audio on the one on
the left can you hear me nice and
clearly and here's the audio on the one
on the right again we've got cars
about to pass so you should hear those in
the background so now time for the big reveal: the phone on
the left is the Alcatel 5
The phone on the right is the OnePlus 6
That footage was taken using the
front-facing camera here's some footage
taken via the rear facing camera and if you
add a bit of motion overall I think it
does a pretty good job you can see the
autofocus making the video bounce a
little bit but you could quite easily do
a little bit of vlogging with this and
it's got some extra features like light
trace and there's also the ability to
capture time lapses without any
additional apps so here I am capturing a
time lapse and you'll see in a second
over the time lapse period it does tend
to bounce a little bit because of the
autofocus just zooms in and out a little
bit but I think the overall result is
really promising I think it's a great
little feature if you want to use this
for social media and getting yourself
some time lapses or general photos for
your Instagram account it doesn't
disappoint in the gaming area either
and even though speaker on the bottom
okay actually don't forget to easily covered up.
this is a really great phone for
gaming on the screens nice and wide you
can see it play asphalt 9 no problem
whatsoever it's really really slickly
I've really enjoyed playing games on
this phone and Alcatel have actually
included a couple a little bit bloatware
but there is a spider-man game that
you can have all mash on but you can see
it can do both the basic spider-man
stuff and the more advanced racing games
there's a huge amounts like with the
Alcatel 5 especially the price
considering it's less than £200 pounds at
the time of review you're getting a
really nice phone it feels great in the
hand looks a lot more premium than you'd
expect and features lots of extra
technology that you'd normally get on
much more expensive hands such as
face unlock. It plays games no problem
streaming no problem it's good to watch
videos on the screens lovely there's
really not a lot to dislike
about this okay the cameras not going to
be the best camera you're going to get
but that's to be expected when you paying
mid-range prices. If you'd like to learn
