North Korea set to stage military parade on September 9th - Duration: 2:14.

There are growing concerns over stalled diplomatic efforts on denuclearizing North Korea.

It's not exactly helpful that the regime is set to stage a huge military parade early

this month, complete with hundreds of vehicles and weponry.

Lee Seung-jae zooms in on the developments across the border.

Parades have long been a way for North Korea to show off its military power to the world.

Come September 9th,... Pyongyang will host a number of major events for the 70th anniversary

of the regime's founding,... including a military parade.

Based on commercial satellite imagery gathered by Planet Labs Inc., analysts say the parade

is likely to be very similar to one staged in February.

But 38 North,... a U.S. think tank devoted to analyzing North Korea,... thinks otherwise.

According to their analysis of satellite photos,... North Korea has been readying for the parade

since July,... and the event is expected to be one of the largest,... given the scale

of preparation.

Images show some 500 trucks used to transport troops parked outside a parade formation.

It also found the shelters for troops are larger than the ones used in the preparation

for the military parade to mark the 70th anniversary of the North Korean Army in February.

Satellite images dated August 22nd show the Mirim Parade Training Ground full of tanks,

self-propelled artillery, infantry carriers, anti-aircraft missiles, and rocket launchers.

Other possible weapons to be showcased include coastal defense cruise missiles, as well as

at least six solid-fuel, short-range ballistic missiles possibly of a type first seen in

February.

However, analysts say there are no signs of ICBMs yet.

They added that, if ICBMs or other large missiles are present,... they would likely remain hidden

under cover in heavy equipment storage areas until the day of the parade.

The parade is also expected to draw visits by foreign delegations,... and for the first

time in five years,... a massive choreographed performance known as the "Mass Games".

S. Korean envoys' Pyongyang visit comes at important time: Pres. Moon - Duration: 2:09.

South Korea's special envoys will be crossing the border for talks with officials up North

this week.

Regarding their trip, President Moon Jae-in highlighted that it comes at an extremely

important time.

Shin Se-min shares with us his remarks.

Two more days before the special team of envoys flies into the North Korean capital for talks

about the upcoming inter-Korean summit and the denuclearization process.

President Moon Jae-in explained his reasoning for sending the envoys, once again emphasizing

the timing.

"It is an extremely important period in establishing peace on the Korean Peninsula.

The government is meticulously reviewing and managing the situation because bringing peace

to the Peninsula goes together with its complete denuclearization."

The President's chief of staff, Im Jong-seok, is hopeful that the delegation will come back

having fixed a date for the third inter-Korean summit this fall in Pyongyang.

The delegates include Chung Eui-yong, who is the head of the National Security Office,

and the intelligence agency chief, Suh Hoon.

The decision to send them for just a day comes as Seoul scrambles to salvage the diplomatic

process.

For one thing,… they'll try to put some speed on the preparations for this month's

summit, since they don't have a date or details yet.

And two,…

Seoul wants to step up its role as mediator between Pyongyang and Washington,… whose

relations have soured since President Trump called off a scheduled trip to the regime

by his top diplomat.

And the presidential chief of staff, who also led the committee for the first inter-Korean

summit says that without the strategic patience and consent of the U.S., it is simply impossible

realize historic change.

The envoys' day trip comes at a time when denuclarizations seem to be at an all-around

impasse.

So many see this week's contact with the North as a chance for a breakthrough -- a chance

to get things moving again not only in terms of diplomacy, but on the economic front as

well.

Washington's new special envoy for North Korea to visit Asian allies soon: Reports - Duration: 2:18.

For the first time Stephen Biegun will be on a diplomacy tour as Washington's new special

envoy for North Korea.

As the former Ford executive prepares for the trip to America's allies including Seoul,

some express concerns over lack of experience in this particular field.

Lee Ji-won explores deeper to find out if he has what it takes to prove doubters wrong.

South Korean news outlets are reporting that Stephen Biegun will soon embark on a trip

to Northeast Asia, which will include stops in Seoul and Tokyo.

This will be his first time in the region as the new U.S. special envoy for North Korea

since he assumed the role last month.

His South Korean counterpart is the special representative for Korean Peninsula Peace

and Security Affairs in the foreign affairs ministry, Lee Do-hoon.

South Korea's foreign affairs ministry told Arirang News on Monday that the meeting between

the two diplomats is currently being scheduled and that further details will be shared once

confirmed.

Biegun previously served as an Executive Secretary of the National Security Council, a foreign

policy advisor to members of Congress and was an executive at Ford Motor Company.

While critics of the administration claim he's unsuitable for the position, considering

how he was focused for much of his career on Europe,... some beg to differ.

CNBC cited Brett Bruen, a former director of global engagement at the White House as

saying Biegun may have the "precise quality that's needed during the fraught negotiations"

-- the ability to talk with President Donald Trump.

Bruen says no one in the State Department has the ability to convey the complexity of

the denuclearization negotiations to the president in a way that he understands and will go along

with.

The former New Mexico governor and UN ambassador, Bill Richardson said Biegun's skills at Ford

will come in handy,... but he should also learn the North Koreans' negotiating style

-- which Richardson called wily.

He also suggested the two words Biegun should remember during his talks with the North are

"timelines" and "verification".

With the denuclearization process between Pyongyang and Washington seemingly at a standstill,...

it remains to be seen whether Biegun's trip to Asia can move the needle forward.

Pres. Moon calls for Nat'l Assembly's cooperation to revitalize economy - Duration: 2:17.

President Moon Jae-in urged lawmakers to help revitalize the economy by swiftly passing

related bills.

He also called for a more active government spending to respond to pressing social and

economic issues.

Hwang Hojun starts us off from the nation's top office.

According to President Moon, improving people's livelihoods and boosting the economy all depend

on the National Assembly's willingness to join efforts with the government.

"When it comes to people's daily lives and our economy, I expect genuine cooperation

from Parliament.

President Moon's remarks were made during his regular Monday meeting with his top aides;

the same day as the National Assembly kicked off its regular session.

He underscored that there are economy-related bills yet to be processed -- bills intended

to boost the economy by supporting small businesses and the self-employed and through deregulation.

But those laws, he said, won't make any difference if they're not implemented in a timely manner.

The President also stressed that neither the ruling and opposition parties can deny that

the nation's low employment and birth rates, its polarization, sluggish economic growth,

and aging population are pressing matters.

To overcome those hurdles, he said (quote) "active government spending is needed more

than ever."

"Instead of stacking up taxpayers' money in a storehouse we can spend it to boost the

economy, create jobs and improve people's lives."

The government recently proposed a 9-point-7-percent budget increase for next year, which would

bring it to over 423 billion U.S. dollars -- if approved by the National Assembly, Korea's

biggest budget ever.

Part of the active government spending will be a pension increase for senior citizens

and people with disabilities,... not to mention the government giving a monthly allowance

of 90 U.S. dollars to the parents of more than 2-point-3 million children under the

age of 6... to ease the burden of child-rearing.

The President's call for action comes as his approval rating dropped to 55-point-2 percent,

according to local pollster Realmeter, because of the worsening economy.

It's his lowest rating yet.

Some blame the administration's minimum wage hike and its policy of income-led growth,

but President Moon says things can change if lawmakers work together.

National Assembly kicks off 100-day regular session on Monday - Duration: 2:43.

The nation's parliament begins its second regular session since the Moon administration

took the helm.

Working together hasn't been the rival parties strong suit, based on their track record.

They have 100-days to get over themselves and break out of that pattern, so as to better

serve the people.

Kim Min-ji explains further.

The National Assembly will be in full swing over the next 100 days... after the regular

session kicked off Monday.

It will be a chance for the legislature to clear the slate... and shake off its reputation

for bickering and being unproductive.

"Let's conduct ourselves with dignity.

Let's not engage in hostile confrontation, but find solutions.

Let's show that we work long nights... and that we respect each other as colleagues.

We're in the driver's seat now.

I ask each and every lawmaker to work together over the next 100 days... and do everything

possible to revive the economy and pass reform bills."

Starting Tuesday,... the chairs of the country's three negotiating parties will give speeches

on their respective agendas and viewpoints.

The following week, the rival parties will hold a four-day Q&A session with government

ministers... on a range of topics, including foreign affairs and the economy.

Also during the 100-day session,... the National Assembly will conduct an audit of government

ministries and their affiliated agencies.... as well as deliberate on the government's

record budget proposal for 2019.

Confirmation hearings will also be held for President Moon Jae-in's new Cabinet nominees.

With so much on the to-do list,... cooperation among all parties will be key for the session

to bear fruit.

But over the past few weeks,... they've been at loggerheads over the government's income-led

growth policies -- which the opposition claim are actually burdening low-income households

and slowing job growth -- they've called for an all-out revision of the policies.

The opposition bloc has also vowed to closely scrutinize the government's 420 billion U.S.

dollar budget plan,... to ensure there is no unnecessary spending.

That could be an obstacle for the ruling party as it seeks to pass bills in support of the

government's income growth strategy... and its reform drive.

Those include bills on deregulation and ones related to improving people's livelihoods.

And as the ruling party is short of an absolute majority -- they need opposition support to

move ahead on anything.

"Although all parties agree on the need for the National Assembly to get work done,...

with so many contested issues at stake,... the question is whether they'll be able to

put aside their own political interests,... and to what extent they're willing to make

concessions to reach a compromise.

#38 ANDREW AND TANYA / In the World of Kalaweit... - Duration: 5:47.

Hello everyone, things are changing and it's a pretty good sign.

All these years I always had to do a choice between Kalaweit and my family

in fact since my children had to stay in town for school, so

the time I spent with the gibbons in the forest, well it was not

with my little family but things are changing

with Andrew my oldest son and soon Prada and Enzo are also going to

come join us, and that means that now we're going to live

the Kalaweit adventure all together and the children will take correspondence courses

and we will live in the forest full time,

and it fills me with joy!

So for this trip in the forest there is Andrew but there is also Tanya.

It's funny because you see Andrew who films, soon you will be able to follow

his adventures in the forest, with his new youtube channel.

I will give you the link and like that you will be able to really follow the

Adventures of the whole family, Andrew, Prada and Enzo. We can not wait to be

all four here and be reunited to live all these

adventures because I confess that all these years being 50

% of my time, even 25% of my time with my family, the rest with of course

my gibbon friends , but now living the adventure all at

same place, family, wild gibbons, forest and rescues, I do not tell you ...

I'm just happy ...

This fig tree is really exceptional, completely hollow in its center,

a skeleton shape while it's not at all that, he has

precisely killed his own skeleton that was another tree, which served as his

tutor, but it's rare to see a fig tree that big and as hollow in its

center, the more it grows, the more it will fade.

For Tanya it's also a training phase because it's out of

question she starts to hunt wild animals...

since I introduced it to you there were some episodes, before

you see her coming with me to the forest, because little by little I'm getting her used to

certain orders, and especially as soon as she start to follow wild animal,

I ask her to stop. It is necessary

she stops immediatly.

this is the case today that's why that she can begin her adventures

with me in the forest, because its out of the question we bother

wild animals, obviously its smell is going

to disturb some so we would like not really that she starts to run after

mutjacs, or deer, for example.

We are in a part of the forest where the vegetation is quite low, and

there are full indications of porcupines certainly some deer around here,

also so there are about three weeks I placed two camera-traps

so there Andrew is in the process of taking them back. The second is down there !

There is also something then (I do not want to tell you too much as we have not filmed it yet)

There is something with Andrew that we

would like to introduce, thing big enough, who can fly, but who

is not a bird... I do not say more, if we never achieve to

film it, I would look like an idiot !

When I was a kid I spent hours to observe gibbons, and well Tanya

spends hours watching macaques ...
