Google Balloons May Be Behind String of Idaho UFO Sightings

For various reasons, UFO sightings often occur in sprees or clusters.

Whether that reason is an actual increase of anomalous aerial activity, the work of

copycat hoaxers, or psychological suggestion is often up for debate.

Over the last several weeks in Idaho, a string of similar-sounding UFO sightings were reported

to NUFORC, the National UFO Reporting Center.

All of the eyewitnesses in each case reported seeing odd lights in the sky, sometimes moving

strangely.

After receiving numerous calls about unexplained lights, southern Idaho news station KMVT now

reports that these lights are likely the work of Google.

Well, sort of Google.

According to a recent news statement, the lights are balloons being tested as part of

Project Loon, the initiative which aspires to offer �balloon powered internet for everyone�

by flying wi-fi-beaming balloons into rural or undeveloped areas.

Loon is currently led by X, a branch of Google�s secretive R&D wing formerly known as Google

X.

Loon has been testing their balloons in Idaho since last year, about the same time NUFORC

began receiving large numbers of reports of lights above Idaho.

The Loon balloons currently being tested in Idaho can be tracked on flight radar here

and here.Compare the images of their balloons with this alleged UFO sighting filmed last

year:

In Loon�s promotional images, the craft do appear quite otherworldly.

Each Loon balloon has a bulbous, illuminated orb with a long, wispy tail trailing underneath

it containing solar panels, antennae, and a host of electronics.

One of the NUFORC reports, in particular, seems to describe one of the same jellyfish-like

vehicles Google Loon is testing as it reacts to shifting winds:

Saw a bright light going really fast from the west to the east.

The craft stopped abruptly and started coming back from west to east.

It then stopped again and was zig zagging all over.

The lights would get really bright then dim.

We could almost see a tail of some sort coming from behind or around it.

Some of the details of the NUFORC reports don�t seem to match up to images or descriptions

of Google Loon balloons, however, although there are plenty of reasons why eyewitness

reports can become tainted with misperceptions or why illuminated wi-fi balloons could appear

from the ground to be something quite different entirely.

2007 Jeep Wrangler JK Sprintex 3.8L Supercharger Kit Build - Throttle Out - Duration: 7:23.

I'm Ryan from extremeterrain.com.

In this episode of Throttle Out, we're going to be adding some big power and torque numbers

to this four-door JK.

So like I said, this is all about adding power.

Today, we're going to be installing the Sprintex non-intercooled supercharger for this 3.8L

engine.

That's going to give us a lot more power for the street and for the trail.

Now, this Jeep doesn't have a big lift and big tires that are robbing a lot of power.

But either way, having that extra power is going to be helpful when merging in traffic

and when hitting the trails.

In fact, this Jeep has a TeraFlex leveling kit on it, and a set of wheels and tires that

would've come on a Rubicon from the factory, even though this is an X trim Jeep.

This does have a couple of other mods on it that I want to show you before we actually

pop the hood and start wrenching on this thing.

So starting up front, we have a Barricade Trail Force HD front bumper, a set of auxiliary

lights, and a winch up front as well.

Under the hood existing, we already have a set of Gibson headers and an Airaid cold air

intake, trying to pull a little bit more power out of this engine from the factory.

Over here on the side, we have some Smittybilt tubular side steps already installed, just

to help you and your passengers get in and out of the Jeep a little bit easier.

Finally, around the backside of the Jeep is a Barricade Trail Force HD rear bumper to

match the front one, and a dual outlet exhaust.

So that's everything that's currently installed on the Jeep.

Now, let's get under the hood and start wrenching.

Today, we're going to be installing this Sprintex Supercharger on this JK.

A supercharger is, of course, a great way to add some additional power to your Jeep.

Now, that's probably not going to be your first stop, because it is an involved install

and these are a little bit expensive.

But if you're looking for some pretty big horsepower and torque gains, forced induction

is a great way to go.

This Sprintex Supercharger is a root-style supercharger, which is a little bit different

than the centripetal style that you might get from RIPP.

This root style is going to be on-demand power that's going to be right there the second

you put your foot in the pedal.

What we're hoping to see out of the supercharger is around 50 horsepower and 50 foot-pounds

of torque.

That's going to help us when we're on-road merging in and out of traffic, and when we're

off-road and need a little bit more power to get over that obstacle.

As you can see, we've done a baseline run, and we had right around 160 horsepower and

192 foot-pounds of torque as the Jeep sits right here.

Now, we'll go ahead and run it with the supercharger installed, and see what kind of gains we get.

So as you can see, the Jeep definitely made some power.

We had 50 horsepower and 30 foot-pounds of torque max gains.

The peak gains, while they were at the top of the RPM range, were around 66 horsepower

and 61 foot-pounds of torque, which exceeds our expectations.

Now, you're not going to be in this 5,500, 5,600 RPM range all that much.

But when you are merging in and out of traffic, or you're hitting it hard on the trail, trying

to get over an obstacle, you are going to see these RPM ranges.

So you are going to have that additional power.

Well, let's get this thing off the rollers now, get it out on the road and out on the

trail to see how that extra power actually feels.

So this is always the best part of a build like this, actually getting this Jeep out

on the road to see how this thing feels.

We had it on the Dyno.

We know what the numbers are.

But what does that translate to on the seat of the pants Dyno?

How does it actually feel driving down the road?

That's what we're figuring out now.

The first thing, right off the bat, you fire this thing up and you get that blower whine,

which is really cool coming out of a Jeep.

It's something you usually expect out of a performance car.

This thing is definitely whiny, and it really has a cool sound to it.

Then, that first time you put it in first gear and you start going, you do notice the

torque.

Even in the low RPM, this thing is definitely torque-ier.

Then, when you get it on the road and you actually start driving it, you take off from

a stop sign, you merge on the highway, you'll definitely notice the extra power that you're

getting out of the supercharger.

I mean, it's not going to break your neck, throwing you back in the seat.

It's not a race car.

It never will be.

It's always just going to be a Jeep.

But now, it's a Jeep with a supercharger.

It sounds awesome and it definitely feels a lot healthier than it did when it was NA.

This thing is a ton more fun to drive.

If you have the budget for it and you want a little bit more power, I think this is definitely

a good option.

I have to say, the tune that comes in the box with this supercharger is very good.

This thing, it drives really, really well.

There's no lag.

But at the same time, the throttle response isn't crazy.

It doesn't make it hard to get it in and out of gear, and get it off the line.

It doesn't have any weird RPM issues.

There's no Check Engine light.

There's nothing like that.

I'm really excited to get this thing off the road.

Not doing any hardcore wheeling, but to get it off the road and see how it feels there.

So we got this Jeep off the road now.

We're just in a grassy field.

We're not going to be doing any really hardcore wheeling.

But we know what the horsepower and the torque feel like when you're on the road.

We know how much it helps when you're merging in and out of traffic, on the highway, or

starting from a red light or a stop sign.

But I really want to see, in an off-road situation, how much that torque and that horsepower really

make a difference when we're doing a hill climb.

I think there's a hill right up here that should do just fine.

I'm just doing a little ripping around in the field here.

It definitely has more power than it did from the factory.

It's definitely more fun to blast around, usually, somebody who likes the more technical-style

off-roading, hitting the rocks, doing some slow-speed crawling.

But I have to say, being out on a grassy field like this and being able to tear around, get

into second gear, really romp on this thing with the supercharger, is a ton of fun.

Here's that hill that I was talking about before.

This is really going to show us what that low-end torque will do.

I'm just going to stick it nice and easy, get to the bottom of it, spin around, and

then head back up to the top.

Well, it definitely didn't bog down.

That was first gear.

I gave it a little bit of throttle, came up the hill with a little bit of speed, and it

definitely does feel healthy.

We don't have huge tires on this Jeep.

But if we did, the additional horsepower and torque we got from this would definitely be

helping to turn those as well.

Indian Russian amphibious aeroboat to make a splash at Skolkovo Startup Village - Duration: 7:23.

The world's first hybrid aeroboat – a boat capable of travelling across water, snow,

sand and land – will be unveiled next month at the Skolkovo Foundation's Startup Village,

a giant two-day event for tech entrepreneurs and investors.

The Aeroboat is a joint Indian-Russian venture designed by IIAAT Holding, a St. Petersburg-based

resident startup of Skolkovo's space cluster, and is designed to access challenging terrain,

such as flooded or marshy areas where the use of regular boats is made impossible by

the shallow depth of the water, patches of dry land or by marine vegetation.

"They can be used for a whole variety of applications, including search and rescue

operations, transportation of people and cargo, leisure, sports, fishing, monitoring of ports

and surveillance," says Sukrit Sharan, a senior board member of IIAAT Holding.

At the open-air Startup Village on June 6-7, where more than 150 other hi-tech innovations

from around the world will be on display, the Aeroboat will be demonstrated on and around

the Skolkovo pond.

"After our success with Indian disaster management authorities, Russia's MChS (Ministry of

Emergency Situations) has shown very strong interest in these vehicles."

With room for 10 passengers and one crew member, the 6.5-metre-long Aeroboat can handle steep

slopes and embankments, and doesn't require any marine infrastructure such as jetties,

since it is amphibious.

It also has a range of advantages over existing amphibious vehicles, according to its makers.

"Hovercrafts work on static air-cushion, whereas Aeroboats work on dynamic air-cushion.

This feature gives Aeroboats a huge advantage in terms of speed and manoeuvrability,"

says Sharan, adding that the IIAAT team has also developed nanomaterial-based anti-friction

technology for the engine and selected mechanical parts, which greatly reduces friction and

energy losses.

"While hovercrafts on average move at around 45-50 km/hr, Aeroboats are capable of going

at around 150 km/hr and even more on water," he told Sk.ru.

"These speed levels are critical, especially during search and rescue operations, where

sometimes every minute of swiftness can result in saving lives, as well as frequency in transportation

of both passengers and cargo."

The Aeroboat is also more robust than hovercrafts, and with estimated maintenance costs of $400-$600

per year, is cheaper to maintain and fuel, says Sharan.

The Aeroboat boasts a hybrid engine which means it can run on either petrol or electricity,

enabling users to reduce carbon emissions and increase energy efficiency.

Having produced both an internal combustion engine model and a hybrid engine model, IIAAT

soon plans to launch an electric-only model with tandem wings.

"Additionally, we are equipping our Aeroboats with IoT (Internet of Things) technology,

which allows us to remotely monitor and control/diagnose the equipment, as well as troubleshoot selected

faults," said Sharan, adding that to ensure the security of its IoT technology, the company

is working with InfoWatch Group, a leading Russian cybersecurity company headed by Natalya

Kasperskaya.

The Aeroboat's makers identify potential clients as government agencies who could use

the vehicles for emergencies and surveillance, corporations for transporting passengers and

cargo to infrastructure sites such as oil and gas rigs in shallow waters, and individuals

using the Aero Boat for transport and recreation.

IIAAT Holding, a joint venture between the International Institute for Advanced Aerospace

Technologies in St. Petersburg and the Indian company Millennium Aerodynamics, already has

orders for more than 25 units from private and government buyers in India, where there

are plenty of areas where the boats could be deployed, due to monsoon flooding and the

country's vast network of rivers and canals, some of which dry up partly or completely

in summer.

"We have already exported around five units to India, both for transportation and disaster

management applications," said Sharan.

"These delivered products are poised to help save hundreds of lives in India during

the monsoon season when the regions experience floods."

"Our amphibious Aeroboats can provide high-speed year-round navigation, even when bodies of

water are frozen, and since they are amphibious, they require no marine or related infrastructure."

The Aeroboat is also already available on the Russian market, in both its internal combustion

engine and hybrid models.

"After our success with Indian disaster management authorities, Russia's MChS (Ministry

of Emergency Situations) has shown very strong interest in these vehicles," said Sharan.

The Aeroboat can also contribute to the development of regional economies by enhancing transportation

connectivity in remote regions where overland and marine transport infrastructure is lacking,

its makers say.

Russia has many inhabited regions that are inaccessible for large parts of the year.

"In Russia we have frozen rivers and canals for almost half of the year, which makes navigation

by normal boats impossible," said Sharan.

"It's possible to use hovercrafts, but they are very expensive to operate and also

have speed limitations.

Our amphibious Aeroboats can provide high-speed year-round navigation, even when bodies of

water are frozen, and since they are amphibious, they require no marine or related infrastructure,"

he said.

The Aeroboat was designed jointly by Russian and Indian scientists and engineers, and is

currently manufactured in St. Petersburg under both Russian and international certification.

Some vital control systems and their programming are developed in India, said Sharan.

"The project is a fine example of Russian-Indian joint collaboration right at the start-up

level.

The support received from Skolkovo has always been appreciated by us," he told Sk.ru.

Russia and India have enjoyed good relations since Soviet times, and Russia remains India's

biggest defence supplier.

Last October, the two countries signed a raft of 16 agreements, including on developing

smart cities and transport logistics systems, and a memorandum of understanding on collaboration

in space technology.
