The other day we went to three countries on the same day. - Yes. Three of them.
Three. - Three.
Hey everyone! Dana here. - And Stefan. - And today... - We're talking about our
trip to Zurich, Switzerland. - No. Basel. - Basel, Switzerland. - Yes.
We're talking about our trip to Basel, Switzerland, Saint-Louis, France... - Via Germany.
Three countries. - All in one day. We went with our goal in mind to go to Saint-Louis, France to visit a friend of
ours and so we drove from Germany into France checked in our hotel but then we
didn't stay there very long, did we? - No. We directly went to Basel, Switzerland.
Yeah. It was just right over the border and we could just take a bus ten minutes.
Something interesting like you directly felt in a different country going from
Germany into France. Or at least I felt it. - Yeah. - The traffic lights and the pedestrian lights
and the pedestrian crosswalk was different and looked different
then in Germany. - Yeah. And then we went over the border again to Switzerland and it
changed again. - Changed again. - Yeah. - A little bit more like Germany but also
different. - Also different. One thing that I noticed was when we got into Saint-Louis
the signs at the pharmacies were those like neon green signs. - Yes. The crosses that
get smaller and smaller and smaller. - Yeah. - And then get bigger and bigger. - With those
green neon lights. - Yeah. And I have seen them before. - In Spain. - Exactly. - Exactly. So I thought
that was really interesting that the pharmacy signs in France at least in Saint-Louis
reminded me of the ones in Spain, but then when we went to Basel the
pharmacy signs... - Like in Germany. - Were like the German ones, and so... - The red A. - Yeah.
We stayed in France. - We stayed in France. - Because France the same as Germany is on
the euro. - Yeah. - And the prices are quite the same. - Quite similar. Also our friends
were in France. But yeah also... - But because it's so close we could have stayed in Basel.
We could have stayed in Basel. - But we didn't. - But we did not. - They have the Swiss franc and in general it's
quite expensive in Switzerland. - It's expensive. We went into one cafe when we were in Basel,
and it was expensive. - We had three beverages, three hot beverages, and
yeah, the price was just... - It was expensive.
So walking around Basel it was kind of like: no I don't want to eat anything I don't want to
have anything to drink. I can wait until I'm back in France.
But good for you was you understood the people in Switzerland.
Wait. - Almost. - Wait, wait, wait. No.
Let's clarify. As I said in the video where I tried Swiss German, I
did not understand the people. But I felt like I could communicate so...
And the signs. - And I could read the signs, yeah. So in Switzerland I could read signs and
I felt like I could communicate to people in German. I don't know if I could
understand what was being said back. Whereas in France I felt like I could
afford things. I could go out to eat. I could go to a cafe. - But it's all in French.
So there was that trade-off. Like...
Yeah. - In...oh yeah, reading menus. Yeah, in Basel I could read the menus I just
couldn't afford the food. - The French menu you couldn't read. - I couldn't read
but I could afford it. Another difference or interesting thing I guess that I noticed
in Basel was the different colored trams. - Okay. - That's something that I don't
know stood out to me. Like, in Munich all the trams are blue. - Yeah. - And I believe in
Prague they're yellow right? Are they yellow or are they red? They're red, they're red!
And in Berlin they're yellow. - In Berlin they're yellow. - Yeah, so but they're the same color in the city. So in
Berlin the trams are yellow, in Prague they're red, in Munich they're blue, but
in Basel I saw a purple tram. I saw a green tram. I took some pictures I can't
remember all the other colors, but I saw a bunch of different colored trams.
And then another cool mode of transportation we saw in Basel.
We saw it first in the video series Things You Might Not Know. Link in the
description maybe - Uh-huh. - to the video. And it's a ferry that crosses the Rhine River in
Basel but it doesn't use a motor. Just uses the... - The current. - The current of the
Rhine River to move from one side to the other side. - Yeah, actually we saw multiple.
Yeah. There are multiple ferries in Basel on the Rhine River. - Down the river.
What other things did we notice?
Oh yeah! I wanted to mention
this one and Stefan thinks it's a little strange that I really want to mention it,
but it really shocked me. What is it, Stefan? - Fire hydrants.
The fire hydrants. In Saint-Louis, France and in Basel, Switzerland I saw two different
kinds of interesting looking what I think is a fire hydrant that I've never
seen before. They're red so I assume they're fire hydrants. I don't know what
else they are. But they look totally different from anything I've ever seen.
And also probably not that big of a thing but something else that I noticed
was in Basel they also had little Maroni kiosks little, um, roasted chestnut kiosks
like they have in Munich. But I noticed a difference. In Munich they sell them per
amount of chestnuts. So you can buy ten chestnuts or you can buy fifteen
chestnuts. But in Basel they were sold by weight. - Yeah. They were sold by weight. And
because you're still not good at the metric system, you had no idea how much
chestnuts to get because you didn't know how much chestnuts weighed in grams. - Yeah.
But it didn't matter because we didn't take out any Swiss francs anyway.
But you know I also don't just know...if it had said pounds I also wouldn't have known. Like I
can't really imagine how much something is in pounds. And I talked about that
before. That's why I really like baking using cups because it's an amount
that I can see. Like how big is a cup. - It's a volume. - Yeah. I don't know how much something
weighs in anything. Do you know? - Uh-huh. - You can estimate. So like this cup you could
hold it and then guess what it weighs. - Uh-huh. I would say it's like 300 grams
plus the water. - Yeah, with the water in it. How much? - The water, it has 300 milliliters, so it's
300 grams of water. You drank it half.
150 grams of water at least. Because one kilogram of water equals one liter of water...
Just give me your answer so I can go weigh it. - It weighs 600 grams.
I'm going to go weigh this. - Okay. So you weighed it? - I weighed it. It weighs 515 grams.
I'm giving that to you because really I would look at this and go...I didn't drink
out of it! I didn't change it on the way, no. I have no idea how much this weighs
in pounds, in grams. I cannot imagine that. I cannot hold something and imagine
the weight. Please let me know in the comments: can you hold something or look
at something and imagine how much that weighs in any system? Using grams, using
pounds, ounces, anything. - Leave us in the comments. - Yeah. Because I cannot do that.
So this was a mixed video review on Switzerland, Saint-Louis you forgot... - Basel.
What? What did I forget? - Yeah. Basel, Switzerland, Saint-Louis, France. And Saint-Louis
she was craving ribs the whole time. - Oh, that's right. Yeah. Hearing "Saint Louis"
had me craving barbecue. In the U.S. there's also a city called St. Louis.
It's in Missouri. St. Louis, Missouri. I have heard that they have delicious
barbecue there. When I hear "Saint Louis" it didn't matter that we went to Saint-Louis,
France and not St. Louis, Missouri my brain immediately starts craving
barbecue food.
So our question for you is: Have you ever been to three countries or

So the other day we went to three countries at the same time.
Hold up your three. Wait, we didn't go to three countries at
the same time. - Yes. - On the same day. But not at the same time. We didn't go to a
place where we could stand on them at the same time. - That's true.
Because we would have been in the river.
The whole time. - We're stopping the video now. We eat barbecue now.
Yeah, exactly. - Bye. - Like I need to go eat some barbecue.
