Hey, YouTube! it's Peter from Los Gatos.
It's the 12th Day of our 2018 Trip and, today, is part one of our Bangkok food binge.
Our first stop of t he day is Silom Soi 20.
About a 15 minute walk from the BTS Sala Daeng Station is one of Bangkok's finest morning
street markets.
Locals come here for fresh ingredients and, of course, delicious food.
After taking some desserts to go, we stopped for one of favorite indulgences:
Khao Kah Moo which is five-spice braised pork leg over rice.
But, first, we had some things to clear up.
This is the kind of stews that I dream about… the meat has been simmer for hours in that
caldron and is just going to melt in my mouth!
I ordered a plate of the pork leg over rice with a hard boiled egg.
Gaby went without the egg.
This was sinfully delicious and we were in desperate need of a walk so we headed toward
the malls in Sukhumvit.
So, we came here last year and they had just started painting this.
And now, it's done and it's pretty cool!
We're walking on the concourse between all of the big malls. So you have Discovery over there
and they go all the way down Sukhumvit.
But, we're gonna go to MBK because MBK is a classic.
MBK: Ma Boon Krong. That's where we're gonna go!
MBK has been around since I was kid.
There are a number of shops inside, but we went for the indoor street market which sold
everything you would find on Khao San Road, but indoors and cheaper.
We walked the halls of MBK for a while.
We definitely burnt off the calories from breakfast and managed to buy a whole bunch
of souvenirs in the process.
Now, it was lunch time.
So, we headed for Paragon's food court which is known for delicious, high-end food.
The prices at this food court are on par with New York City.
After walking the food court, we ran into a Mexican food stall called La Monita.
You know, we couldn't resist a good margarita.
Tequila Shot: 120, Margarita: 250, Mechilada: 190.
Our burrito has arrived and looks a little Chipotle-esque.
And, our margaritas are coming.
Okay, iSalud!
Pretty good! This guy knows how to make margaritas!
Okay, let's open this up!
So, the first salsa out of the red is this one. Just kidding, this is the orange container.
And the orange salsa.
The red container gave me salsa verde, which is really bizarre.
And then the last one gave me this. So, they're all pretty looking.
And they taste exactly as you'd expect them to. Delicious! They're actually really good!
Oh my God! And the burrito has been cut!
Carnitas, right?
The burrito is so good that we ordered chicken quesadillas.
They're very good. And, they cost a lot because they also come with guacamole!
Next, we took a
Grab car to see one of my favorite night time sights in Bangkok.
The Grab car headed towards the Grand Palace.
I have to admit, this is going to be a touristy destination, but I knew it would be worth it.
We were dropped off by Maharat Road by Wat Pho and
walked towards Sala Arun Bed and Breakfast.
You can't tell from the outside, but there is a rooftop bar in there.
We took the stairs all the way up to the very top to the Eagle Nest Bar.
The drinks here are super pricey but the view it offers of Wat Arun is phenomenal.
We were able to get up close and personal with Wat Arun last year but it was still under
renovation.
The scaffolding has since come down.
Eagle Nest was a great place to have one drink and take lots of photos.
Now, it was time for dinner.
Even though most of the street food on Rang Nam was no more, a couple of places were still
alive and well.
Our first dinner stop was right around the corner from our Airbnb and is simply known
as Rang Nam Seafood.
The lady referred to herself to me as "mom" and she told me the Thai thing to do which is to
look at the menu and write down what I want.
We were so hungry by now that we ordered way too much.
The food was pretty good, and the service was very homey… especially when the trucks
rolled by.
But, we weren't done.
It wouldn't be a dinner on Rang Nam without stopping at the stall by the local gas station,
which is how locals refer to it.
Woohoo! That was quick!
The larb here was good too, right? Or was it down there?
I think it was here..
We ordered another fish and more chicken.
I guess we wanted to see which stall was better.
To be honest, both were great and we were stuffed.
We'll resume eating tomorrow morning..
