Hey guys its Sagar from Tecworkz, and in this video, we take a look at the dual cameras
on the new Nokia 7 Plus.
The Ziess branded dual cameras on this phone, are almost similar to the much higher priced
Nokia 8 Sirocco.
And that is what got me exited to grab this 7 Plus in the first place.
Primary camera has a 12 megapixel sensor with F/1.75 Aperture, and a large pixel size of
1.4 micron.
Secondary camera has a 13 megapixel sensor with F/2.6 aperture, and it gets a 2x telephoto
lens.
There is no OIS on either of these cameras, and the phone use Gyro EIS to stabilise the
videos.
You can shoot 4k videos at 30fps, but you don't get any kind of stabilisation at this
resolution.
At the front, you get a 16 megapixel camera with F/2.0 aperture and pixel size of 1 micron.
This camera is also equipped with Ziess Optics.
This phone is running Pure stock android, and the camera app is the only custom application
that you will find on it.
The app itself is pretty intuitive, and you can easily switch to the pro mode by pulling
the on screen shutter button out.
I wish these manual settings were also available while shooting videos.
It would have also been nice to have a button for the Live Bokhe mode on the viewfinder
itself.
Now, before we get to the image and video samples, make sure to hit the subscribe button,
so you don't miss out, any of the amazing videos, coming up on this channel.
Coming to the image samples.
In good light, images quality from the primary camera is really good.
It captures, quite a lot of detail in each shot and the sharpness is on point.
For the most part, it captures accurate exposure of the scene.
Colours look good and vibrant, but they are not overly saturated.
Few of the images have a bit warmer tones, which I don't really mind.
There's a secondary telephoto lens, and it helps you take images like these, without
having to move closer to the actual subject.
This 2x lens captures a bit softer images compared to the primary lens, but it still
comes in handy at times.
These is a slight shift in the colour temperature of the images, when you switch to the secondary
lens, as you can see from these shots.
This is an image with and without the HDR mode turned on.
Just look at the amount of details that the HDR mode brings back from the shadows.
It might not be great at preserving the details in the highlights, but the the amount of details
it brings up from the shadows, are enough to make an image look good.
HDR mode will help save some of your low light images as well, but just make sure that you
hold the phone really steady, or you will end up with blurred images.
Now here is a quick focusing test, before we take a look at the close up images.
As you can see it is really fast at switching the focus between a near and far object.
Thanks to the wide F/1.75 aperture, you get a really nice depth of field in close up shots.
Just look at how well the background is blurred out in all of these shots.
You get a good minimum focusing distance, but if you want to get even close to your
subject, just switch to the telephoto lens, and that will give you an even better looking
background.
Portrait mode or Live Bokhe mode images on this phone, allows you to adjust the amount
of blur to the background, while taking or even after taking the picture.
Images captured with this mode turned out to be excellent.
Edge detection is on point, and it keeps the actual subject of focus, very sharp.
To be honest, these are some of the best looking portrait images that I have seen from a non
flagship smartphone.
My only issue with it, is that, since it uses the telephoto lens for the portrait shots,
you have to keep a lot of distance between you and the subject.
And it takes a bit of time to set the focus on the person or the object that you are trying
to capture.
You get nice images with lot of details and very less amount of noise, as you move indoors
or to artificial lighting situations.
The large pixel size 1.4 micron and an amazing image processing algorithm, means you get
sharp images with minimal amount of noise, in these lighting situations.
There is some amount of noise creeping in, when you move to even lower lighting conditions.
But you can keep that in check, by just tapping on the brightest part of the image, and bringing
the down the exposure a bit.
Here is an example of a low light shot with the 2x telephoto lens.
If the light is reduced further, the phone will just capture an image with the primary
camera, and digitally crop it, instead of using the secondary lens.
The 16 megapixel front facing camera, makes sure that you get amazing selfies.
It captures sharp and detailed images, Colour are accurate, and it also handles the exposure
really well.
It does a good enough job in low light.
There is a display flash feature, if you find yourself clicking selfies in very low light.
You can take portrait images with the front facing camera as well.
Since there is no secondary lens at the front, the blur in the background is achieved by
software, and the resulting images turned out really good.
It might not be most accurate at detecting the edges, specially if you have multiple
people in the shot, but it still does a much better job then any of the other phone in
this price range.
You can shoot videos in upto 4k resolution in at 30fps but there is no EIS while recording
in this resolution.
1080p videos are electronically stabilised and they look good.
You can also record videos with the 2x telephoto lens, and switch between
the lenses, while capturing videos.
Front facing camera also has EIS, so if you shoot lot of videos with the selfie cameras,
you wont be disappointed.
Before we wrap up, I should also mention that there is an option, to shoot images are videos
with the front and rear camera at the same time, and Nokia likes to call it Bothe.
I am not sure how many people are actually going to use this feature, but it is there
if you ever need it.
So overall, the Nokia 7 Plus has got an amazing set of cameras, both at the front and back.
Having a sensor with larger pixels, it definitely captures some amazing images in most of the
lighting conditions.
It can also take amazing shots with the Live Bokhe mode, but as I have mentioned earlier,
you have to be a bit patient and give it some time to focus.
It might not be as good as some of the flagships in lower light, but it does well for the price
at which it comes in.
Front facing camera is also really good, and it has seen quite a few improvements with
software updates.
I think it's fair to say that the Nokia 7 Plus has got the best set of cameras in
its price range.
I am going to compare its camera with the Redmi Note 5 Pro, and even with the OnePlus
6 in a few days, so make sure you keep an eye out for those videos.

the cameras on this Nokia 7 Plus?
