Youtube daily Jun 12 2018

You can never plan for everything.

There's always a point where it's time to stop talking and start doing.

I can't imagine how anybody passes a problem

that they know that they can fix, and doesn't try to fix it.

PITTSBURGH, PA

I feel an absolute obligation to serve.

Military service in my family goes all the way back to

the Civil War and World War II, Vietnam,

The mythology of my family

started with my grandfather, his pocket knife.

I always wondered what the heck did he ever cut with this thing?

There was never a moment where I thought I wouldn't become a soldier.

I did two tours in Iraq as a helicopter pilot.

I knew he was an amazing pilot.

He was the top of his class in flight school, so

I was always very confident in his piloting abilities.

He always reminds me of that as well, when we're driving.

I'm right at home in the chaos.

You've got three to four radios, ground guys talking, wing men talking,

In an instant your brain needs to be able to shift,

but then I got injured.

And that caused me to lose my ability to fly.

He was literally pulled out of Iraq and dropped home with three kids.

One day you're a soldier, and then over night

they rip off that tag and slap veteran on your chest.

And they don't really tell you what veteran means.

What is a veteran, what is it going to be to be a veteran?

Before I went in the military,

math was the thing where people were like:

"Hey, you are really, really good at this."

It's the thing that helps me understand the universe.

I thought: "Okay, I'll go get a physic degree of some kind."

He couldn't do it, he couldn't get the math right

and he said things were just getting jumbled up in his head.

I was diagnosed with traumatic brain injury,

some people call it concussion syndrome.

I missed math, I mean I loved just doing math

for the sake of doing math.

And so, I retaught myself a new way of doing math.

I went back and started from literally elementary school level math,

addition and subtraction type stuff.

I applied to Pitt and was accepted to the engineering program

and wanted to see if I could be involved in some engineering

helping veterans, and helping the people I care about.

A roast with potatoes and bacon.

Is that my job?

That's your job for the time being here.

The fact that my son has autism is just one little part of me.

But almost his entire existence is defined by that autism.

Tristan is pretty much non verbal.

-What? -Tristan.

Okay, if you're done buddy, you're done.

I'm sure that he has dreams and aspirations just like everybody else.

It's hard to want so badly to know what they're thinking

and to not be able to.

I found there was a field called rehabilitation engineering.

It's technologies that improve people's quality of life

and their independence.

I thought: "Man, if my son's ever going to be independent,

he's going to have to have these kind of things around him."

I you look up rehabilitation engineering,

the first thing that pops up is a place near Pittsburgh,

and I thought: "Man, I got to go be a part of that."

Human Engineering Research Lab (HERL) UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH

It's kind of like Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

except for it's robots instead of Oompa Loompas.

Our vision is a world where everyone with a disability

can participate on a level playing field

to their greatest extent possible.

The human, the right thing to do is to make things

not just able to be used, but to be used

with the same sort of joy or ease as I do.

We want to lift people up to be at eye level

with the person they're having a conversation with.

Climb a curb without it being this huge, drawn-out, dramatic thing

because the curb cut is not anywhere nearby.

To create an arm that can open a door, but also grab an egg.

To help transfer someone from a chair to a bed or to the toilet.

I had to prepare the software to support the research that we do.

We were incredibly inefficient on the computing side,

so the biggest change I think that I've helped to make is

to sort of standardize the technologies we use,

so that they're not a barrier.

Android is this underlying platform that you can just do anything with.

It has such an active community of people designing and innovating,

so that we can bring in somebody else's tools to solve a problem,

so that we don't have to learn a new technology each time,

we can just start working.

The type of person that I think has a propensity to join the military,

has a feeling of service and commitment

to something greater than themselves.

That's it.

Okay.

All the way up?

I have to remember to hit the right button.

You ready? Let me know if you need me to slow down.

Sometimes you get so close to the process itself.

Everything is wires and ones and zeros and

all of a sudden you get to the subject trials.

You have a human being come in and start using your product.

You see the potential for it to change your life

and all of a sudden it's this big wow moment.

I realized the service doesn't end when you get out of the military,

it just changes.

Debby?

They're so tough, my children.

They're so much tougher than I am.

Every now and then, I'll see them solve a problem and I'm like:

"Man, if they can do that, they're going to be just fine."

Those moments come to me and I feel such peace all of a sudden.

Will I ever get to talk to my son?

That's something I think about every day.

Of course I'm hopeful.

And that's part of why I became an engineer,

it's part of why I got into this field,

is that I'm not going to sit around and wait

for somebody else to fix the problem.

There's not a minute to be wasted

thinking about anything, but the good things that we can do.

To all those using technolog to build a better world

Search on.

Trump Gets Last Laugh After Hillary Honored With Major Medal For Her Impact On Society – Not Yours! - Duration: 4:09.

Trump Gets Last Laugh After Hillary Honored With Major Medal For Her Impact On Society

– Not Yours!

Fox News is reporting that Hillary Clinton will receive an award from Harvard, that recognizes

her impact on society, but it seems like President Donald Trump will get the last laugh.

While Clinton receives an award from a top tier college, it's Trump who is most likely

to receive a much more prestigious award, as so many people believe he should receive

the Nobel Peace Prize for bringing North and South Korea together after so many years.

Hillary Clinton critics immediately rushed to the comment sections, and social media

to flood the gates with their disdain for her receiving any sort of award, especially

one that suggests that she had a positive impact on society.

Some critics believe Harvard is giving her the award simply as a means to get on President

Trump's nerves, but he likely doesn't know or care about what awards Hillary receives.

Of course, that's mere speculation, but it's highly likely to be true.

Once Hillary receives the award and is pressed back into the American spotlight, it will

only be a matter of time until social media erupts with more commentary on the situation.

In particular, the commentary from those who dislike Hillary might ask, if she stumbled

on the way to picking up her award, a reference to all the times that Hillary trips over her

own feet in public.

Or perhaps the social media comments might ask if she coughed on the award a few times

before receiving it.

Fox News wrote: "Hillary Clinton will receive Harvard's

prestigious Radcliffe Medal for her "transformative impact on society," according to the Ivy

League university.

She will receive the award Friday as part of the school's graduation-week activities.

Clinton is a former first lady, New York senator, secretary of State and two-time Democratic

presidential candidate.

Her 2016 White House bid was damaged severely by an FBI investigation into her use of private

email servers, to send and receive classified information while at the State Department.

Organizers at Harvard say Clinton was chosen for the award, because she's a "champion

for human rights," a "skilled legislator" and "an advocate of American leadership"

on the world stage.

Former Secretary of State and 2001 Radcliffe Medalist Madeleine Albright will deliver a

personal tribute to Clinton, and Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey will take part

in a keynote conversation, with her Friday at the school in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Previous medal recipients include Federal Reserve Chairman Janet Yellen, Supreme Court

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and former Sen. Elizabeth Dole, R-N.C."

Clinton may have achieved some honorable positions, but her opposition will likely question if

she used her positions for honorable actions.

Clinton, who once spoke to a crowd about equality while wearing a shirt that cost around $14,000,

has found herself wrapped in her own controversies that many modern day Americans cannot forgive.

The issue with Benghazi and being married to an alleged predator are two of her main

concerns.

She also has the issue with the missing emails, private servers, and other issues that have

found her at the helm of scrutiny.

Those who voted for Trump may brush this off as no big deal while they wait for Donald

to be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Trump's accomplishments in his short time as President seem to vastly outweigh whatever

Hillary Clinton may have done.

Trump also doesn't have anywhere near the amount of controversy surrounding him as she

does.

Some of Trump's critics tried dragging him under the bus by exposing an old recording

where he joked about grabbing a woman by the privates, however that appeared to be the

only dirt that people could bring upon the now President.

Mike Pompeo speaks with his S. Korean and Japanese counterparts after summit in Singapore - Duration: 0:33.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo got on the phone with his South Korean counterpart,

Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha, right after the summit between the leaders of North Korea

and the U.S. came to a close on Tuesday.

The top U.S. diplomat, who also took part in the expanded meeting between leaders Kim

and Trump, wrote on his Twitter account that he spoke with minister Kang and Japanese counterpart

Taro Kono to provide a brief readout of the historic meeting in Singapore.

Mike Pompeo is scheduled to fly to South Korea this week, where he will sit down with South

Korean President Moon Jae-in and discuss the latest summit.

All eyes on first encounter of Kim and Trump at International Media Center - Duration: 1:50.

It was a hive of activity in the International Media Center over in Singapore... with hundreds

of journalists fixing their eyes on the first encounter between Kim and Trump.

Media from all around the world wer there to witness the historic summit

Kan Hyeong-woo has the details.

As the clock ticked closer to 9 AM, all eyes in Singapore's International Media Center...

were fixed on the TV screens.

They'd already been waiting for hours, and the tension and excitement were easy to see.

Upon the arrival of the two leaders at the Capella Hotel, the long-waited summit talks

began in earnest.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and U.S. President Donald Trump, who were trading threats less

than a year ago, stood together in front of their countries' flags and in front of the

whole world.

The press center bustled with journalists, filming something that had never been seen

before -- the moment when a leader of a regime secluded for decades stepped out to meet an

American president.

"Well it's a historic moment, that's for sure -- the first time American President meets

North Korean leader, it's a very decisive moment.

But what will actually come out of it -- that's what everyone wants to know and I'm not sure,

today, they're gonna make so much progress.

It's probably gonna be a long process.

"I felt as if history was happening in front me.

I would expect at best they would shake hands and agree to meet again, anything more than

that... given the short.. and on-and-offs so there hasn't been much preparation."

It had been on, then off, then on again, but the hard-earned summit eventually happened,...

and it's safe to say June 12th 2018 will be remembered in history.

Who's who at Tuesday's North Korea-U.S. summit - Duration: 2:07.

After the one-on-one meeting between the two leaders, there was also an expanded bilateral

meeting and working lunch involving the leaders and top officials from North Korea and the

U.S. Kim Hyesung has the list of attendees from

the two sides.

It's the first ever meeting between a North Korean leader and a sitting U.S. president.

The summit kicked off with a one-on-one bilateral meeting between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un

and U.S. President Donald Trump at nine a.m. Singapore local time, then the two leaders

were joined by their veteran negotiators at an expanded bilateral meeting.

The U.S. delegation included Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, the former CIA director

who has played a critical role, travelling to North Korea twice this year to set the

stage for the summit.

Chief of Staff John Kelly, a retired Marine Corps general, and National Security Advisor

John Bolton, who caused a stir last month after suggesting North Korea could follow

the so-called "Libya model" to dismantle its nuclear program, also joined the expanded

bilateral meeting.

North Korea also brought to the table a group of proven loyalists.

Kim Jong-un's right hand man, Kim Yong-chol, North Korea's former spy chief and Vice Chairman

of Worker's Party of Korea, who travelled to New York in the lead up to the summit to

meet with Pompeo and President Trump was at the meeting.

Ri Su-yong, vice party chairman on international affairs and Ri Yong-ho, North Korea's foreign

minister, who served as the North's chief delegate for the Six-Party Talks, also attended

the meeting.

The working lunch had a few more attendees.

On the U.S. side, Press Secretary Sarah Sanders, Ambassador Sung Kim, who is a former Ambassador

to South Korea and also served as the U.S. special envoy for the Six-Party Talks from

2008 to 2011, and Matt Pottinger, the National Security Council Senior Director for Asia.

And on the North Korean side, vice foreign minister Choe Son-hui, who was the lead negotiator

in the advance meetings with the U.S. team at Panmunjom,... and Kim Jong-un's younger

sister Kim Yo-jong, who was the face of the North Korean delegation at the Winter Pyeongchang

Olympics in South Korea.

International reaction to Kim-Trump agreement - Duration: 1:33.

Leaders around the world are reacting to the historic agreement between North Korea's Chairman

Kim Jong-un and U.S. President Donald Trump.

Choi Si-young zooms in on what they are and how they are different.

At last, Chairman Kim and President Trump sat down together to talk.

And now countries in the region are responding to the agreement they signed.

China says it welcomes and supports the deal.

A spokesman for the Foreign Ministry in Beijing said this afternoon that China hopes the two

countries build trust for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and for a regime of

peace.

And he added that China will play a constructive role along the way.

Members of the Russian parliament called the Kim-Trump "historic" but cautioned that it's

only a start.

Frants Klintsevich, the senior senator on the defense and security committee, said North

Korea's denuclearization process must proceed under UN Security Council supervision.

Leonid Slutsky, chairman of the Parliament's committee on international affairs, said the

six-party talks need to be restarted to guarantee the peace process.

Japan, on the other hand, sounded a slightly different tone.

Yoshihide Suga, chief cabinet secretary, expressed respect for Trump's leadership regarding the

summit agreement.

However, he refrained from any further assessment of it.

The secretary said Japan expects North Korea to adopt policy changes as a responsible member

of the international community.

And he added that Japan will continue to cooperate with President Trump and the international

community in resolving the issue of Japanese nationals abducted by the North Korean regime.

Trump says Kim's will to change as great or greater than his - Duration: 2:21.

After wrapping up his summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, U.S. President Donald

Trump held a separate press conference at the Capella Hotel.

It was an unprecendentedly long presser -- going on for an hour.

Our Oh Jung-hee who's part of Arirang's Singapore summit special coverage team, files this report

from Capella Hotel.

President Trump said he had some intensive and comprehensive discussions with North Korean

leader Kim Jong-un... and saw that Kim had decided to take a first bold step towards

a bright new future.

Saying that enemies of the past can become friends,... Trump said Kim Jong-un will be

remembered as a leader who brought prosperity to North Korea... and that he trusts him.

"I think he might want to do this as much or even more than me because they see a very

bright future for North Korea.

So you never know.

Right?

We never know."

As to why the phrase "complete, verifiable, and irreversible denuclearization" couldn't

be fully stipulated in the agreement, Trump stressed the phrase "complete denuclearization"

in and of itself is meaningful and shows the North's firm will to denuclearize.

He cited Pyongyang's dismantlement of Punggye-ri nuclear test site last month... and plus:

"Chairman Kim told me that North Korea is already destroying a major missile engine

testing site.

That's not in your signed document.

We agreed to that after the agreement was signed.

That's a big thing.

The missiles they were testing, the site is going to be destroyed very soon."

But according to him, the sanctions will remain in effect until the U.S. confirms North Korean

nuclear weapons are no more.

He said he will invite Kim to the White House... and visit Pyongyang himself at an appropriate

time.

And in signing the peace treaty after declaring the end of the Korean War, Trump said he will

involve both South and North Korea as well as China as signatories.

"President Trump stressed that once Kim Jong-un gets back to North Korea, he is going to immediately

start work to implement the joint statement.

However, the agreement didn't contain specific denuclearization measures, so it remains to

be seen how Washingnton and Pyongyang will work things out from here.

Oh Jung-hee, Arirang News, Singapore."

Kim and Trump sign Joint Statement after their summit on June 12th - Duration: 2:06.

Now weeks and months after numerous working level and high level talks, North Korea and

the United States drew up a joint statement after their summit today.

Lee Ji-won files this report from Singapore.

North Korea and the United States reached a new milestone, namely the June 12 Singapore

Joint Statement.

According to the statement, the two leaders conducted an in-depth and sincere exchange

of opinions on the issues related to the establishment of a new Pyongyang-Washington relationship,...

as well as building a lasting and robust foundation that leads to peace on the Korean peninsula.

It says that U.S. President Donald Trump committed to providing security guarantees to North

Korea, and conversely, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un reaffirmed his unwavering commitment

to complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.

Agreeing that the development and improvement in bilateral ties will contribute to the peace

and prosperity of the Korean Peninsula and of the world, and recognizing that mutual

confidence can promote the denuclearization of the peninsula, the two leaders signed on

four clauses.

First, Pyongyang and Washington will commit to establish new relations in accordance with

the desire of their respective peoples for achieving peace and prosperity.

Second, the two sides will join the efforts to build a lasting and stable peace regime

on the Korean peninsula.

Third, North Korea reaffirms the Panumunjom Declaration signed with South Korea,... and

commits to work toward complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.

And finally, North Korea and the U.S. commit to recovering remains of Prisoners Of War

and Missing In Action soldiers from the Korean War, nearly 70 years ago,... including the

immediate repatriation of those already identified.

While the joint statement did not include much on North Korea's denuclearization as

many had expected it would,... Kim and Trump are confident and optimistic that this new

promise, built on top of their trust for each other, will open a new era of peace and prosperity

on the Korean peninsula.

Moon "June 12 Sentosa Agreement will go down history as breaking last remaining Cold War legacy" - Duration: 2:41.

Of course, carefully watching the developments in Singapore is South Korean President Moon

Jae-in.

Our chief Blue House correspondent Moon Connyoung is live on the line for us to give us the

latest reaction from the top office.

Connyoung, what's the response from President Moon?

What he said as the leaders of North Korea and the U.S. met in Singapore this morning

- that he hardly got any sleep last night waiting for this day - I think best sums up

how the South Korean president has been feeling in the days leading up to this day... as he

watched North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and U.S. President Donald Trump make their first

handshake and as they signed their agreements.

After the summit, the South Korean president who has championed the summit and often acted

as a mediator between his U.S. and North Korean counterparts praised the two leaders' courage

and resolve for taking a daring step towards change.

Listen to his press secretary.

"The President said the June 12 Sentosa Agreement will be recorded as a historic event that

has helped break down the last remaining Cold War legacy on earth.

It is a great victory achieved by both the United States and the two Koreas, and a huge

step forward for people across the world who long for peace."

How will President Moon be working with his U.S. counterpart from here on forth?

President Moon spoke on the phone with U.S. President Donald Trump as he received a call

from Mr. Trump from Air Force One on his way back to Washington after wrapping up his summit

in Singapore.

We haven't learned of the details discussed between the two leaders yet but we expect

President Trump to have briefed the South Korean president on his summit meeting with

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

We expect the two leaders to have had the chance to discuss in detail the specifics

of the agreements signed between the two and the next steps to be taken.

"Building upon the agreement reached today, we will take a new path going forward.

We will write a new chapter of peace and cooperation.

We will be there together with North Korea along the way.

This is just the beginning and there may be many difficulties ahead, but we will never

go back to the past again and never give up on this bold journey.

And, my Administration will spare no effort in cooperating with the U.S., North Korea

and the international community to ensure that the agreement can be implemented in its

entirety."

President Moon is also expecting a visit by U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in the

next few days during which more discussions can be carried out.
