Today, on Super Reviews I am talking about a Johnny Test episode, oh wait, if I'm talking
about this show, I have to throw out my enthusiastic, energetic, mildly, okay wildly annoying personna,
and put on my cynical, angry and miserable personna, so let's do it!
Today I am talking about an episode of Johnny Test: Johnny's Trophy Case.
I know I've reviewed this show as a whole 8 months ago, but I'm gonna review this
as an example of exactly how Johnny Test gets under my skin, and is one of, if not THE most
hated cartoon ever.
The episode starts off with horrible Flash animation; as well as sound effects as far
as the ears can hear, before they go deaf, before they go deaf, that is.
The plot starts with Johnny asking Dukey if he's noticed that the sisters have a full
trophy case since they're geniuses, while he has basically none.
(video) I actually think this is a good way to start
this kind of plot.
When you establish that Johnny feels bad that the sisters have more trophies than him, and
make the sisters look really mean and antagonistic, it makes you feel all the more bad for Johnny.
However, the very next scene, instead of straight up telling the sisters they can blow off,
he instead acts immature and tries to prove that he's not a loser by winning a trophy,
because I guess the plot demands it.
Yeah, way to make your main character so unlikable, as well as insult your target audience, kids,
who have probably never won a trophy in their lifetimes.
Dukey TRIES to tell Johnny he's being naive and being a winner's not about winning a
trophy, but completely backfires and makes Dukey, of all people, yes Dukey the Dog, who's
supposed to be the voice of reason, look as naive as Johnny and further escalates his
quest to get a trophy.
Then, Dukey happily helps Johnny look for a way to get a trophy, and they go golfing.
And because Johnny's too stupid to practice somewhere safe, he instead hits the ball like
he's in a 350 yard golf course in his own front lawn.
Of course, the writers being the mature adults they are, decide to make the ball hit a neighbor's
window, and hit him right in the face.
Of course, instead of scramming immediately like this character would do, he stands there
until the neighbor knows who's Dad to sue, and he goes to Johnny's Dad.
His Dad of course gets mad, and claims he doesn't have a million dollars to pay for
his troublemaking.
(video) Remember this.
Then, Dukey decides to take Johnny bull-riding.
So, they of course get a bull in a fence in their front lawn, kinda wonder how his Dad
didn't see it, and instead of being real and not bringing a bull out of nowhere, their
excuse is (video).
Oh, good point, never would've thought of that.
They of course, let the bull free and it hurts the neighbor guy.
And we get the same routine again.
His dad tells him that he never won a trophy and look how he turned out.
Aside from his dad being so stupid as to not know his son is not like him at all, this
also shows not having a trophy makes you a loser and you shouldn't listen to what your
dad, who's about 4 times older than you, with a lot more experience, because that's
not cool!
And who is Johnny Test's main demographic?
I WONDER.
So Johnny goes and watches TV expecting the news reporter guy to help with the situation,
and cartoon logic, he does.
Hey, I won't be a hypocrite, if SpongeBob can do it, so can Johnny Test.
We see the reporter talking to eccentric billionaire Branson Ridgeway as there is a river jumping
race with a huge trophy and a one million dollar prize.
I did honestly laugh at the eccentric joke and how exaggerated it was.
Once Dukey tells Johnny that jumping the river is impossible, the sisters jump out of the
blue and just happen to want Johnny to test their new power bike.
Johnny denies as he is smart enough to know that the sisters will use his testing to jump
the rivers themselves and get the trophy and Johnny storms out.
Then, he goes with an ordinary tricycle to jump his swimming pool, surprise surprise
it doesn't work.
I have to say him storming out and coming outside has such a weak transition I actually
noticed it at first watching.
It goes by so fast and out of the blue.
Once again, Dukey tries to convince Johnny to stop what he's doing, but Johnny, being
the annoying shell of a character he is, denies.
Johnny mispronounces a word, whatever whatever, filler, and then the sisters come out with
their bike.
Johnny immediately agrees, and Susan blasts it on, making it go where?
You have three seconds.
3, 2, 1.
Okay, did the bike hit a) the neighbor's car, b) the neighbors car or c) the neighbor's
ca-?
Johnny's dad gets mad at them again, and remember when I said for you to remember when
his dad said "I don't have a million dollars"?
Well, he says that again, and with Johnny being so determined and the prize of the contest
being 1 million dollars, I WONDER WHAT WILL HAPPEN!
And not to rub this in, but the animation is so bad in this episode!
The eyes of the characters especially are so badly animated, it looks like some YouTube
video or something.
Anyway, instead of being an adult, Johnny's dad plays the cheap role and goes completely
against his character.
Lovely.
His Dad explains how no one gets anywhere without a team, how inspiring.
I love how he directly goes against it by constantly yelling about how he'll get 1
million dollars.
I love how they play some inspiring music behind it, as if we're supposed to feel
for this.
I also love the constant whip-crack sound effect.
Very professional.
They finally go to the river jumping contest.
A girl from Susan and Mary's school hints at how her bike is better, even though she
should be smart enough to know it clearly isn't.
I swear, they're using the standard poses for the character designs!
They're not even trying!
My AirBuds are probably drawn better, and they use a frickin' template! (reporter
video) Ya know, this is probably the only funny joke in the entire episode.
That's not saying much.
The sisters set the stupid indestructible bike to a million pounds of pressure.
Yeah, you know you're jumping a river, right?
Dukey warns that Johnny shouldn't do this, and Johnny denies.
(dukey video) Yep, this is definitely the best part of the episode.
The only justified bit and this just makes Dukey grow so much as a character.
I'd just love to see what this guy was doing the whole race (waving guy) It probably would've
been more interesting than the alternative.
Johnny's Dad finally comes to his senses, and the sisters agree.
But Johnny is still adamant.
I swear, I will murder this character if this goes on much longer.
The sisters, since they're so smart, remember, tell Johnny that he deserves half of their
trophies as he tested them.
Yeah, I'm not sure about that logic since you two invented and got all the credit for
the invention and he just got a stretchy back or an extra nose or something in the process.
They go home, but since the episode does not know how to stop, we keep going, as the bike
blasts and takes Dukey with it, making Dukey not land somewhere in China, but land face
first from space all the way down to the finish line.
And, like my channel, the bike was lost and never heard from again.
So yeah, the only character whose been decent this entire waste of an episode, gets tortured
to a full body cast.
Boating Buddies flashbacks!
And this is my least favorite part of this abomination.
So yeah, my favorite and least favorite parts of the episode, perfectly contradict each
other, which means the worst part cancels out the only part I enjoyed.
Wonderful.
Johnny's Dad still accepts the check and is happy.
But what happened to the bike?
If it's a metaphor for my channel, it should've bombed back by n- (bomb video) Haha, yes.
As if I didn't despise this enough.
Now, I don't know how to feel about this ending.
On one hand, Mr. Test got what he deserved, through even thinking it was okay to put a
boy in such danger, and I should be happy he got punished for it.
On the other hand, Dukey got into a full body cast for that check, and to see it disappear
over something so stupid and forced is just frustrating!
I think I should be happy, as Dukey got tortured anyway, so losing the money doesn't put
him in more danger, and he also won the trophy, which wasn't taken, so I guess it makes
this ending bearable.
This is unacceptable.
I think I should be paid to be given something so frustrating and meaningless!
It is wrong in every way, the goods are immediately canceled out, and the bads, well, let's
just say they're special in their quantity.
So, for Johnny's Trophy Case, I give a 1/10.
It gives me nothing to take away.
There is nothing likable, but the character of Dukey, who gets tortured immediately, which
makes me mad at the writers.
The animation is bad, the music and sound effects in the background are bad, the voice
acting, plot and characters are bad, and the comedy is so poor that I find it hard to class
this as a comedy show.
It is worse than SpongeBob You're Fired, because at least that doesn't spam whip-crack
sound effects in my ears and have such lazy animation.
