Youtube daily Jun 6 2018

- Could not be making this summer

tips video on a more appropriate day.

It is scorching, so hot, so hot.

(slow funky rock music)

Hello, I'm Jackson Bird and I love summer,

but it does not love me.

I get hay fever (coughing) (blowing nose).

I get sunburned so easily.

I get heatstroke and summer means warmer

weather which means more revealing clothing,

and I, like many trans people,

do not always feel A plus about my own body.

So summer, as much as I love it, can sometimes suck.

So let's talk about some ways to deal with summers,

specifically as a trans guy.

I'm talking binding, shorts, tank tops,

going to the beach, whether or not to shave your legs,

I've got tips on all of it.

But first, disclaimers.

These tips are gonna be geared towards trans guys

or any other AFAB people who want to

express themselves in masculine ways.

I'll cover some stuff that applies pre-T, some post-T,

some pre-top surgery, some pre-coming out, but remember

that everyone's bodies, comfort levels, dysphoria,

financial and living situations, are all different.

So not everything's gonna apply to everyone,

but I hope you will find some of this useful.

All right, so first, if you have started T

and this is gonna be your first summer on T

and you don't know this yet, you are about to be sweatier

and more smelly than you have ever been in your life.

I'm talking dripping sweat down the back,

feeling like you're doing hot yoga 24/7 kind of sweat.

I don't think I ever had sweat stains on the

back of my shirts before I started testosterone.

But oh, is it gonna happen to you.

So you're gonna wanna keep on top of that with extra

showers, changing clothes more frequently, deodorant.

Now especially if you're earlier on in your transition

and you haven't tried this already,

I recommend switching up to some men's deodorant.

It's just a little (sniff) musky indulgence

that can help counter the dysphoria.

Now if you have started T, again, you are going to

sweat and smell so much more than you did pre-T.

You might need to take multiple showers everyday

over the summer and really scrub that new body hair,

yes, we are going there.

And listen, I'd go so far as to recommend

a little manscaping to reduce the amount of sweat

and stench that you be getting in those places

like maybe under your arms and other places that exist.

Side note, what's a gender neutral term for manscaping?

Body hair trimming?

Why did we have to make a manly version of that phrase?

But hey, while we're on the topic of hygiene,

let's take a minute to talk about today's sponsor,

Dollar Shave Club.

So I started using Dollar Shave Club years ago

when I started testosterone and knew that I was

gonna need to shave my face but also knew that

I wasn't usually read as male, so I was kinda scared

to go out in public and buy razors from a store.

Not to mention, I had no clue how to differentiate

all the different types of razors,

and they are so dang expensive.

So I signed up for Dollar Shave Club where I can

get high quality razors sent to me every

month for just a couple of bucks.

They come straight to my door in a discreet package

so I don't have to face any dysphoria at the store.

Plus, I'm not gonna lie, in those early days I felt

super manly belonging to a men's subscription service.

I'm not making this up for the ad.

I have actually been a Dollar Shave Club customer for years.

And that is actually why I signed up for it.

But I recently found out they don't just sell razors.

They sell toothpaste, body wash, hairstyling products,

not to mention all the accessories that you for

shaving like shave butter and post-shave cream,

post-shave serum, I like that one, it's like a,

like spritz it on and you feel all nice and cool.

And I've been using the shave butter ever since

I started shaving and I have never looked back.

Makes your skin feel smoother and healthier

than like normal shaving cream does.

And it's transparent, so you can see if you are

about to shave off a pimple or a mole,

which is a real obstacle for me.

Right now you can try out a bunch

of their products for just $5.

They're basically giving away their

daily essentials starter set.

For just $5 and free shipping, by the way.

New members will get three trial size versions

of Dollar Shave Club's most popular products,

plus the executive razor.

Look at the quality of this razor, feel the weight on that.

So in that first box you get some of that

shave butter that I was talking about,

you'll get some body wash so you can smell clean

and masculine like I was mentioning before.

You also get a handful of these butt wipes,

One Wipe Charlies, which, awkward to talk about,

but remember what I was saying about how much

more you're gonna smell on your first summer of T?

Use these, get rid of your stank.

And finally, in that first box you're gonna get

your executive razor and a full box of cartridges.

And this isn't their selling point,

but I love that every box has a new pun on it.

I mean, that just helps.

So you get four razors in this first box and then after

that replacement razors are a couple of bucks a month.

And again, you can get all of that in this

first box for just $5, which frankly blows my mind.

You can sign up at dollarshaveclub.com/jacksonbird.

I will put a link down in the description box,

and again that is dollarshaveclub.com/jacksonbird.

Thank you so much to Dollar Shave Club for

sponsoring today's video and for giving all of us

the gift of grooming confidence.

Let's move on to another summer challenge, binding.

Binding sucks during summertime.

I mean, you've got this thick fabric compressing

your core and adding an extra layer to the heat.

It's not gonna be fun no matter what,

but here are some things that helped me over the years.

First of all, if you've got any older binders that

are maybe a little looser and thinner laying around,

wear those as often as you can.

I know they're probably not gonna bind as well,

but all of summer is just give and take on your

dysphoria versus not passing out of heatstroke.

Also, if you usually wear the full length binders

that help bind your hips, maybe try going for the shorter

ones on Underworks, they're called tri-top.

The ones that just kinda stop like

right at the bottom of your ribs.

Also, take your binder off even more than usual.

I was totally guilty of being too dysphoric

even when I was home alone by myself,

I would keep my binder on because I just could not stand it.

But during summertime, when it's as hot as it

is in this apartment right now, oh my gosh,

I would have that binder off.

I'd just be walking around shirtless if I were home alone.

And if you're out and about,

take little bathroom breaks in the stalls,

just like take it all off and breathe for a couple

of minutes if you can get it off because it's

so hot the binder's gonna be sticking to your skin,

it's gonna do that thing where it rolls up

and then you can't even grab it.

Uh, binding is the worst.

On more of a mental, emotional note,

you can try to focus some of your discomfort into making

top surgery plans and fundraising if top surgery is

something that you're interested in down the line.

Summer of 2015 was when I got fed up and put

all of my top surgery plans into motion because

I could not take another summer in a binder.

And as we all know, a big part of summer is sleeveless-ness

and tank tops, which don't play well with binders.

It can be pretty tough to find a tank top

that will cover the binder straps or how far

it'll come up under your arms or like the neckline.

So generally look for tank tops with higher

necklines and wider straps that go

almost to the end of your shoulder,

which would have been dress code at my high school.

One thing I started doing is to just buy

t-shirts that I liked or take old t-shirts I

had and just cut the sleeves off.

That way you can control the measurements.

You can literally measure it up against your binder

so that it is definitely going to be covering your binder,

if that is something that you care about.

Some people rock the binder look.

You know, if you do the cut off t-shirt thing not

only is it gonna cover your binder,

you also get the bonus of looking super punk rock.

And before we move on,

just the usual disclaimer about binding safely,

please use an official binder from one of the reputable

companies like Underworks or gc2b or FLAVNT.

Please don't use any DIY methods,

those are things that can seriously hurt your

ribs or your lungs, sometimes permanently,

sometimes so badly that you aren't even eligible for

top surgery down the line, so just don't do it.

If you're having trouble getting

your hands on an official binder,

there are tons of scholarship programs and stuff out there.

That's a whole other video that I could make,

but there's already tons of them,

so just Google it, you'll get the info.

All right, now let's talk about the beach.

So I love the beach, I love swimming, but yes,

when you can't take your shirt off yet it is not fun.

It never stopped me from actually swimming,

but it always made me miserable.

Your main options are swim shirts,

which some people call rash guards,

or tank tops with or without a binder

or a sports bra underneath, or a swim binder.

If you go that route, I definitely recommmend

FLAVNT's swimwear, they come in a whole spectrum

of skin colors and are just made so well and beautifully.

I tried all of these different options at different times.

I personally preferred the old

binder under a tank top option.

Didn't look the sexiest, didn't dry the quickest

after being in water, but for whatever reason,

it's what made me feel the most comfortable,

and that ultimately is what is most important.

I'm also gonna link to Ashley

Wylde's video on nonbinary swimwear.

It has some practical tips as

well as some philosophic advice.

If you have had top surgery and have visible scars,

don't forget to be slathering those scars in

tons of sunscreen and don't be staying shirtless

the whole time if it's your first year out.

Or maybe ever, the sun is terrible.

And if people ask about the scars,

honestly, you should just say, it's personal.

It's part of your medical history and you don't wanna share.

Unless you do want to share,

could be a good teaching moment.

Or you could try on a few of these lines.

Bro, what are those scars from?

Yeah, I fought a shark.

What, oh my God, how did those get there?

Trust me, you do not wanna get on a dolphin's bad side.

These, you should see the other guy.

And then after the aliens beamed me back down to my house.

I had heart surgery.

On both sides?

I'm a time lord?

Now, a quick note on swim trunks.

Ty Turner discovered a great hack a couple of years

ago which is that board shorts without the elastic

in the waistband make your hips look smaller.

It's a miracle.

I think it's because the elastic

isn't there to like squeeze your body.

But, I have found it difficult to, one,

find this type of board short at all.

Maybe it's a northeast problem.

And two, when I do find them,

to find them with a short enough inseam.

Board shorts are a style of short that are

usually longer and long shorts on short guys

tends to just look like normal pants, JNCO shorts,

capris, it just doesn't look good.

So actually, let's talk about shorts for a minute.

A lot of trans masculine people are shorter

than cisgender guys and that means that a lot

of men's shorts are too long for us and look silly.

Ideally, you want your shorts to fall above your knee.

Not only is that just like the rule of fashion

for grown-up people and people wanting to look

more grown-up, but it will also make you look taller.

If you're wearing shorts that go longer than

your knees it makes your whole frame look shorter.

It's one of those optical illusions just like

how horizontal stripes make you look wider.

So you wanna do is look for the shortest

inseam that a store has available.

And I will say that more fashion forward stores

like H&M are going to generally sell shorter

shorts and swim trunks than say, American Eagle,

which caters to teenage boys,

or Costco, which caters to my dad.

And if you can't find any shorts that are short enough,

you can take the DIY approach again.

Hem them yourself.

It's not that hard to pick up a sewing kit

at any grocery store and look up some YouTube tutorials

on how to sew, if you don't know how to sew,

and then how to hem.

I will even link in the description box to my

favorite tutorial on how to hem things while

keeping the factory seam so no one will know

that you ever tailored your clothes.

Or forget the hemming and just cut your shorts

the length you want and let the threads ravel

because jorts are are totally still in, right?

Am I right, jorts are in, right?

Cut off shorts is that not in anymore?

I have no idea.

And since we are talking about shorts,

we've gotta talk about shaving your legs.

So most trans masculine people like to

grow out their leg hair, but if you're not out yet,

it can be really tough to decide should you shave

your legs in front of people who don't know that

you're trans, especially maybe parents and family,

or do you keep that leg hair because

shaving is really dysphoric for you,

or because, let's face it, when you're not on T

it can take a really long time to

build up that luscious leg hair forest,

and so shaving it would just seem like such a waste.

I don't have a great answer here.

Some suggestions I have would be comprising with yourself.

Say, okay, I'll only have to shave up to

my knee and wear some longer shorts.

Or if you are gonna stick with pants so that

you don't have to shave, at least get some light linen

or some other type of light fabric pants so that you

aren't totally dying from the heat in your jeans.

Or you can just come with a hella good excuse

about why you're not shaving your legs.

I recommend just mentioning the patriarchy.

That always works.

And now let's start wrapping up with just a

couple more miscellaneous summer tips.

Number one, baseball hats are great.

They'll keep you shaded, which is important if you

are as translucently pale as I am.

Or you know, some days when your hair is doing

the thing or you feel like you're getting read

as a girl more often and you don't know why,

so just put on a baseball hat and grunt a lot.

Passing tips from Jackson Bird.

Next and probably the most important tip I can give

you for the summer, hydrate, stay hydrated.

I mean, this is important for everyone,

but especially if you're gonna be wearing more

clothes than seasonally appropriate, if you're binding,

whatever you're doing where you're probably

not dressing as coolly as you should.

Make sure you are hydrating.

The other thing if you're not dressing as coolly

and seasonally appropriate as you should be,

make friends with goths.

I'm serious, they always know where the shade is

and like where the coolest air is 'cause they're

always dressed in so many layers of black.

They'll give you all the tips you need for cooling down.

And for real, the more queer and trans friends

that you can make, the better because they'll

understand what you're going through and you

can relax a little bit around them.

You don't have to worry about what body hair

you're shaving or if you need to take your binder off

for awhile, they'll be chill about it.

And if you do need to stay indoors and not

participate in as many outside activities,

or if you need to turn people down for certain things

that would make you feel dysphoric, that's okay.

And I would also hope that you're not missing out

on too many experiences because of dysphoria.

It's just gonna happen sometimes,

but if it becomes a habit for like years and years,

I would hope that you find a way to reach out to

a support group or a therapist or community center,

someone that can help you find the change that you

need to be able to live your life to the fullest.

'Cause we all deserve to enjoy summer.

And summer is always gonna be tough for anyone who doesn't

look exactly like society tells us we're supposed to look.

And you know what, even they are probably gonna

face street harassment, so summer just sucks for everyone.

But it is especially hard for trans people,

so just know that we're all in this together.

We've all been there or are there

and we've all got each other's backs.

So let's use this comment section today to swap tips,

commiserate, and encourage each other.

Bonus points for any funny trans summertime memes.

Shellshocked Ted Cruz Sits In Stunned Silence When Asked If Trump Can Pardon Himself - Duration: 3:40.

Ever since Donald Trump mentioned earlier this week that he had the absolute right and

authority to pardon himself, reporters have been asking republican lawmakers if they agree

with what Donald Trump has said.

Most of them have flat out said, "No absolutely not, the president cannot pardon himself."

But not Ted Cruz.

Ted Cruz, the man who was ridiculed beyond recognition by Donald Trump during the republican

primary, instead of saying, "Yes," or "No," or giving some kind of legal explanation,

stood there, when asked this question, in stunned silence for a full 18 seconds before

finally giving an answer.

Here's an audio clip of the exchange.

... to assess.

Senator, the President says he can pardon himself.

Would you agree with that?

Would you agree with that?

[inaudible 00:01:04]

That is not a constitutional issue I've studied, so I will withhold judgment at this point.

The biggest thing I regret about that audio clip is that we don't have video to go along

with it, because I would love nothing more than to watch Ted Cruz squirming, his face

contorting, possibly even smoke coming out of his ears as his gears are turning, trying

to figure out a believable lie to tell to the reporter.

But at the end, he was like, "I don't know enough about it.

I've got to go."

No.

But here's the funny part about all this: Ted Cruz's non-answer, which, in reality,

was a non-defense of Donald Trump, actually speaks volumes about Donald Trump's chances

of survival in Washington DC because, in the past, we have seen far too many republicans

willing to go out there defend any and everything that the President says, but not this time.

There is a sea change, and even people like Ted Cruz, who, in spite of how horrible Trump

has been to Cruz and his family, going as far as to suggest or imply that his father

may have helped kill JFK ... Cruz has always been on Trump's side until now, and he didn't

come out and attack Donald Trump.

He didn't say, "No, the President doesn't have that power," but he didn't defend him.

We've seen that recently from people like Mitch McConnell, Marco Rubio, Pat Toomey,

John Thune, a whole host of republicans in DC no longer willing to defend the President.

And, again, they're not coming out and attacking him or disagreeing with him for the most part.

Some of them are, but they're not defending him anymore.

Trump is running out of friends in DC, and more importantly, he is running out of time.

These republican senators and members of Congress see what is happening in this country.

They know what's happening with the Mueller investigation.

Most of them saw the evidence of why the FBI put an informant into the Trump campaign,

or at least had them talk to members of the Trump campaign, and they agree with it.

Trump doesn't have any friends left, and if it comes down to impeachment, these republicans

who today aren't willing to defend the President, but not quite attack him, they're going to

be the ones that end up issuing those final votes that could remove Donald Trump from

office.

Easy Two Step Stamping - Wasabi from Ellen Hutson! - Duration: 7:45.

hi its Therese from Lostinpaper and today I'm going to share with you some

two-step stamping, now this is a really easy way to create lots of images

really fast and a fun card I'm using the wasabi stamp set and coordinating dies,

it's from the essentials by Ellen collection and designed by Julie

Ebersole. now when I want to stamp out lots of images I do use my Misti I've

added all the outline images that I want to use onto the lid of the Misti and

then I can stamp them out all at the same time. I'm using some tuxedo black

and I've cut my cardstock it's twice the length that I need and this way I can

just flip my cardstock around and re stamp all the images easily and get all

of images to play with so this is going to be kind of a little bit of a busy

card for me but there is another another card that I've created as well that I'm

not going to share with you here it's actually over at my blog so if you want

to see that card using these same supplies I'll have the link in the

description below. So my husband and I were travelling at the moment we're

driving around Australia and I've got a bit of a temporary set up happening here

I'm currently in Port Fairy although we'll be long gone from there by the

time you see this video as we are on the move all the time but I will have a

photo of my set up at the end of the video if you hang around for that on our

way here we stayed with some close friends and they made us this amazing

Japanese feast so that's the inspiration for this card it's a thank-you card for

them and the amazing food that they put on I thought this is just the perfect

stamp set to let them know appreciation so I'm adding my colour with the altenew

inks here and because I'm travelling I don't have all my colors with me I did

grab the cubes of ink because they're a nice

sort of travel-size but I don't own them in every color but that's where these

little cubes come into their own when I'm doing some multiple stamping like

this here what I've what I do is I can actually set up each of the images like

I'm doing here I've got three different colors and I'm stamping out the three

different colors in one go so I'm adding the ink to each of the solid image and

stamping them all out at the same time if you had the bigger cubes you could

the bigger ink pads you could do this but it was would just be a little bit

more difficult I'll list all the colors obviously that I use I haven't listed

them here in the video but I'll link them below but they'll also be listed

over at my blog now I came in with some with a Copic marker and just added a

little red line to the soy bottle but that was really cute now I have the

coordinating dies and when I stamped out my images I made sure that I left enough

space that I could add the dies and run it through my Big Shot machine all in

one pass and yes I'm travelling so I don't have

any green cardstock with me so to create my own green cardstock I decided to add

some parrot ink to the card and then I can just use my die from the wasabi

accessory set this is one of those that all

you know creates that green plastic grass that you get when you buy sushi

I'm sure it's all over the world it's a bit of an odd thing but it's definitely

there I thought that'd be really fun to add to this and also the chopsticks and

I used a Copic marker to color my cardstock for that one. so the sentiment's from the

same stamp set and I'm stamping that out with some black ink directly onto the

front of the card it's a top fold card and then use some score tape to adhere

my green grass down and I'm gonna have three lines here of sushi so yeah it's

quite it's gonna be a lot of sushi on this card but I tell you there was a lot

of sushi at the party too I decided to kind of pop up some of the sushi and add

some directly to the card front so I have got a bit of a combination of you

know foam squares and I did use my tape runner as well I was struggling a little

bit with my tape runner I think it's because it's a new one

I had trouble kind of getting it working but I just have to use what I've got

here at the moment and I have a video if I haven't shared it actually I might

have already shared it I will link it below showing you exactly what I've

decided to take away with me and I did like a boxing video for my trip and I'm

very lucky that I was able to take quite a few things but obviously not nearly

enough if you ask me so I have also decided to so I hope to be able to keep

sharing some videos with you along the way at both my YouTube channel and my

blog I do have some posts set to go I will hopefully even be able to share

some of our experiences along the way if you're interested in that. I've come in here

I've got some matte medium I'm just adding my chopsticks and initially I was just

going to put one set of chopsticks in but you know it's a busy card why not I

thought just put them all in go for it and then I all have to do is flip it

over... look here's my husband he's telling me that I've got my sashimi and my prawn

the wrong colors I should have any other way around anyway

obviously I didn't start the card again! All that was left to do was flip the card

over and cut the edges of the images off and that's my finished card for today

thanks so much for joining me and for bearing with me over the next few months

oh, and here's my setup like I promised I'm not doing that tough

it's a beautiful spot alright so until next time happy papercrafting bye

Doris Muñoz Is Breaking Barriers | Seen & Heard | MTV News - Duration: 11:06.

- Cuco fans will come up to me

at the shows where ever they find me,

especially with young Latina teenagers,

they'll just say the sweetest things

like, "Thank you for doing what you're doing,

"representing for our culture,"

that kind of ...

- That's amazing.

- The first time that happened I legit cried.

(laughing)

(slow electronic music)

- [Gaby] Cuco is a 19 year old independent musician

who's catapulted from playing backyard barbecues

to Coachella in just a year,

thanks to his unique sound, relatable lyrics,

and the unwavering support and hustle

of his savvy manager, Doris Munoz.

In an industry that's overwhelmingly run by men,

Doris breaks barriers as a young woman of color

running her own management company.

She let me tag along for a day in her life

starting at her apartment in LA.

Hi, good how are you?

Oh my god, thanks for letting me come invade your space.

Your place is so cute.

You have a roommate, right?

- Yeah.

- Which is the most, like, Doris stuff?

- [Doris] Probably the records, like the Bread record

or Michael Jackson or the Linda Ronstadt stuff

or all the stuff I took when I was an intern at Columbia.

(laughing)

- [Gaby] Doris founded her management company,

Mija Management, in February 2017

and over the course of a year she's developed a roster

of talented young artists of color.

As their manager, she oversees the professional development

of all her artists' creative careers,

from meetings with records labels,

to studio sessions, performance bookings,

and so much more.

- It's all encompassing, it's all hands on deck.

It's like you're there in the trenches

with your artists whether you're

with them at a photo shoot or at a concert

or on tour or a music video or whatever.

But also, big picture, where I'm

emailing all day long or phone calls

or meetings or that kind of thing.

I'm there to connect the dots

and share the same vision as my artists

to make sure that it's followed through

on every conversation that's had about their business.

- [Gaby] Doris grew up surrounded by music

in a family of missionaries.

That meant everyone learned some kind of instrument

to participate in the worship band,

and every Sunday or holiday was full of music.

Her first instrument was the saxophone,

but she also took up violin, guitar,

and is a self-proclaimed musical theater kid.

- [Doris] So the instruments are here--

- [Gaby] Do you play still?

- Chords are so easy on the uke.

- [Gaby] 'Cause it's, like, little baby thing.

Oh yeah, that's nice.

- It's the easiest instrument ever.

And then I have a baby Taylor,

'cause that was easy, 'cause I have small hands anyway.

Growing up, all my uncles were playing

barre chords and they would try to teach me.

- And you were like (squeals). - I literally can't.

To this day, I still can't.

So open chords only, I'm a noob forever.

(laughing)

- I feel like growing up,

when you're immersed in music,

you're often immersed in the performative side of it,

so the behind the scenes stuff

is stuff that you don't really get to see.

When did you start to pick-up on that

and learn about it?

- It was because I did a completed

career path switch in college.

I did theater for three years

and I thought I was gonna be a teacher

back in my old school district.

Be like, what's that one movie, "Freedom Riders"?

(laughing)

Because I grew up in the hood, in San Bernardino,

and it's literally the worst city in California

when it comes to dropout rate, homicide rate,

and unemployment, and poverty line.

It's crazy out there.

So I thought, "Cool. I'm gonna give back to my community.

"Be a theater teacher, teach these kids

"to get out of San Bernardino,

"but why am I going back to San Bernardino to do this?"

I don't know, I feel like everyone has

that existential crisis in college

trying to figure it out.

- It's interesting to hear you talk about

wanting to be a teacher

and give back to your community

because that is a mindset that you're

still taking into Mija Management.

- It wasn't til I started working for myself

and then I could figure out

that I could bring all my passions into one place.

Because I'm the only natural-born citizen

in a family of undocumented folks from Mexico.

So, it was like, how can I utilize my privilege

in being able to work in a field like this,

but also help my community along the way?

So working with artists like Hunnah

who's the daughter of an Ethiopian refugee

or like Cuco who's son of two undocumented

immigrants from Mexico.

It was mind boggling for me

to see it all fall into place

and be like, "Oh damn, wait.

"I'm creating this world around me

"of kids that grew up like me,

"but also their art is amazing

"and deserves so much more."

The way the last year has unfolded

for all of us has just been really surprising,

but in the best way possible.

- [Gaby] On top of running her own company

and elevating the art and careers

of other first generation Americans,

Doris is the founder and creator

of Solidarity for Sanctuary,

a series of benefit concerts

that raise money to help families

at high risk of deportation

tackle mounting immigration related legal fees.

She does this all with barely a blueprint

to follow besides obsessively studying

John Janick's career in her teens,

and finding a mentor in Tunji Balogun

while she interned at RCA Records.

- So when I close my eyes

and try and picture famous artists managers,

they're pretty much all white male faces.

You're a woman and a woman of color,

is that something that you were

constantly confronted with in this job?

And is it a challenge?

Is it an advantage in some ways?

- In the beginning, it felt like

my biggest obstacle, being a young woman

of color that was building my relationships as I go.

I met with attorneys that asked me how old I was

within the first five minutes of our meeting.

Whether it was a joke or not,

definitely had people ghost me, it's so funny,

but now, y'all regret that, huh?

(laughing)

Looks at the camera, "Y'all regret that, huh?

- [Gaby] Before launching her company,

Doris found herself in a series

of odd internships and temp jobs.

From a front desk position at Live Nation

to A&R work with record labels,

a stint in radio at KTLA,

and even some time in the HR Department

of Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles.

Juggling all those different kinds

of jobs has come in handy though

because to be as effective a manager

as she is for multiple clients,

Doris has had to master flexibility

and creative problem solving

no matter what the situation might be.

So you don't really have a set day-to-day?

- [Doris] Not really, it's not like I go to an office

and have to be there by 10 a.m.

Like today, Hunnah and Cuco have

a session together in the afternoon,

but then Inner Wave has a show at The Roxy,

but then also there was meetings in the midst of that

that had to get postponed or rescheduled.

Especially in LA, everyone's so flaky.

(laughing)

- [Gaby] Well, one traffic jam

and your whole day is ruined.

- [Doris] Honestly, yes.

(slow rhythmic music)

- [Doris] What's up, yo?

Man, we so busy now, it's kinda ridiculous.

- You're just poppin though.

You have the whole MTV crew on your shit.

- [Doris] Stop it.

- Cuco, I know it's hard 'cause she's right here,

but why did you want to sign with Doris?

- I'm not here.

- I didn't feel like she was, like, my manger.

I felt like she was the homie.

She's the homie that was putting me on everybody.

Sometimes, she'll be like, "Look."

She won't tell me I shouldn't,

like, I can't do something,

but she, like, suggests that it's a bad idea.

(laughing)

But at the end of the day, it's like,

"All right if you want to shoot yourself in the foot.

"I don't think it's a good idea, but..."

- [Gaby] So she calls you on stuff?

- Yeah, she makes sure I'm not messing up.

(laughing)

- That's awesome.

I think she's doing a pretty good job.

- Oh yeah, dude.

I'm doing Coachella and all that.

- It worked.

I guess it worked out.

I guess it kinda worked out.

- It's doing well.

- I told Cuco when I first sat down with him,

"I just don't want some dude

"that has no idea about our culture

"and no idea of what you represent

"to, like, Ritchie Valens you.

"What you're doing is so pure

"it clearly connects with these teenagers

"that look like you, you're like their next door neighbor.

"You're a goofy-ass kid from Hawthorne."

Growing up I never got to see artists

like the artists we work with on the platform.

Like, ever. (laughs)

- Was that something that you realized

as you were finding artists

that you really connected with

or was that something that you

went into this job thinking about

and wanting to do?

- I think naturally I connect with artists

that represent my culture,

that represent the immigrant work ethic,

that kind of thing because that's been

such a massive part of my identity.

I feel like the message

that they have to represent

I can add value to it

because I have the life experience

of being able to connect with that

and really portray that in a conversation

with a label or a publisher

or a booking agent or whatever.

What these artists represent

is so beyond the music, it's who they are

and the people they generally connect with.

I think that's what music is for,

the artists are the bridge

between the music and the fan.

- [Male] Hey.

- [Doris] Hi.

- [Gaby] It's that direct connection

that makes show days Doris' favorite days.

On show days she's able to watch

her artists live out their dreams,

to witness young marginalized people

finally feel represented

and to experience the uniting power

of music that she's loved since her childhood

performing with her family in church.

So, what's the most rewarding part of this job.

- I think seeing the communities

that come together during these shows.

Like at a Cuco show, it's all these young Latino teenagers

that clearly this is a safe space for them

and they get to just enjoy a night

with other kids that look like them

with a kid that looks like them on stage.

It's just this energy that you can cut it with a knife.

I am so privileged to be able to work in a field

that I love because of the sacrifices

that my parents made to come to this country

and I just want to be an example

of what a product of an immigrant really is.

(slow electronic music)

- As a musical theater kid. - Nice.

- So I went to school for musical theater

for like a semester, I was like,

"Nah, just kidding, I'm gonna be a teacher."

And then I was like,

"Nah, just kidding, I hate this."

So then I doubled in communications

and got a job on campus

as a concert coordinator for their amphitheater.

Then once I got into the major label system

then I was like, "Shit, this is legit."

- So what I'm learning from this is

you're not only a business wiz,

but low-key you can sing, too?

(laughing)

("Lego House" by Ed Sheeran)

- Doris, everyone!

(applause)

(slow electronic music)

Rosie Has Her WORST Trump Meltdown Yet!

Look What She Tweeted!

Rosie O'Donnell has had quite a few meltdowns on Twitter, but none are as bad as this one

here.

O'Donnell starts the tweet by begging President Trump to unblock her account, which proves

she does nothing all day, but sit around the house obsessing over our America First President.

The tone of the tweet grows increasingly darker, as Rosie descends deeper into her own madness.

By the end of her message, it sounds as if Rosie is one tweet away from wearing President

Trump's skin as a moo-moo.

In all seriousness, normal people do not behave this way, and at this point, it would probably

be wise if the Secret Service spoke to Rosie O'Donnell.

what do you think about this?

The Miracle of Fasting By Spirit Science - Duration: 11:19.

the soul is nourished by fire and air and the body by water and hi there today

we are covering a topic that has been part of the health and wellness

community since before there even was a health and wellness community it could

even be said that we have been using this wellness technique for as long as

people have been on the earth it's super powerful and is full of all kinds of

benefits that everyone can take advantage of this ancient health

practice is none other than fasting [Music] [Applause]

there are many different types of fasts found across just as many cherished

traditions and they all generally revolve around the idea of not eating food for a period of time the most

common is a water fast where you drink only water and don't eat any food for

the duration of the fasting period in recent years some other forms of fasting

have been quite popular as well such as juice fasting where you consume only fresh fruit and veggie juices there has

also been some remarkable cases and studies on dry fasting which entails

going a set period of time without both food or water the question is and

something you may be asking yourself right now why would anyone do this

fasting is without a doubt one of the quickest and easiest ways to rapidly heal your body it is known to provide a

wide range of benefits such as reducing neurological diseases like Alzheimer's

and Parkinson's inducing body wide cellular repair processes lowering risk of diabetes reducing stress and

inflammation and even preventing cancer on top of these benefits fasting also

Spurs deep mental emotional and spiritual healing helping you release

worries anxieties stresses and even helping to get rid of certain addictions

in this way we then find new clarity and peace within mind body and spirit and

come to a place of deep spiritual revelation fasting has played a huge

part in many different spiritualities around the world and has been said to

play a large role in connecting you with God and finding yourself in Christianity

Jesus fasted for 40 days in the wilderness after being baptized by John in the River Jordan in Buddhism the

Buddha practiced extreme levels of fasting prior to his enlightenment in

Islam Muhammad practiced fasting quite regularly and initiated a new type of

fast called intermittent fasting which was abstaining from eating and drinking

from sunrise to sunset this fast was adopted by all Muslims during the month

of Ramadan and still takes place today fasting also plays a large role in

Jainism Taoism and many other spiritualities across all of these faiths they believe that fasting would

bring incredible miracles into our lives when combined with prayer or meditation and a commitment to our spirituality

fasting can help us to increase our spiritual abilities reach states of deep

inner Pease learn to identify the difference

between authentic hunger cravings and food addictions develop self-restraint

and discipline improved manners protect us from lustful desires and encourage

great bodily purification this is only a small list of possibilities of what can

happen physically emotionally mentally and spiritually when we participate in a

fast so how does this work well on a physical level our bodies have an innate

capacity to heal themselves however under normal circumstances a great deal

of energy in our bodies goes to the digestive system and metabolizing

processes turning the food we eat into usable energy for us to live our lives

this also means that the systems required for healing and repair are put

on hold until these other processes have run their course

thus by fasting we are essentially asking our bodies to take a break from

digesting freeing up a lot of energy for use on healing other parts of our bodies

that often get neglected for those who are curious the deep physical cleansing

benefits of fasting only really arise when you cut out food entirely just

eating less than your recommended daily amount is not the same because eating

anything it all adds to your body's active energy storage called glycogen

which takes about 10 to 12 hours to be depleted it's only after this time that

the body starts burning fats for fuel and using up your excess fat storage for

energy the benefits that we could really go into here are astounding however the

main points are as follows once your body enters into the state of burning

fats for fuels we see our glucose levels drop we start to lose weight and belly

fat as it's used up for fuel we see insulin and igf-1 levels drop reducing

risk of diabetes and we see many deep cellular repair processes begin as the

body begins removing waste material from ourselves we also see beneficial changes

to several genes and molecules related to longevity and immunity to disease as

fasting actually produces new stem cells into the body this process also reduces

oxidative stress and inflammation as well fasting is also very beneficial for

heart health as it improves blood pressure cholesterol blood triglycerides

and blood sugar levels doing this also improves brain function which reduces

anxiety as a result not surprisingly exercise is the only other thing we know of which shows the same positive effects

on brain health as fasting whenever you end

a fast it's important to do it very carefully if you come off of your fast

and go straight into eating how you used to you may find your belly becoming

quite bloated this is actually normal if you intake food too quickly or eat food

that you're newly cleansed body doesn't actually like if you instead start with

teas soups and smoothies and then begin shifting to small amounts of raw or

plant-based foods your body will have a much easier time adapting back to eating

again for those who are just starting out with the practice of fasting you should probably know the different kinds

of fasts that there are because there are quite a few that exists now here's a

short list of different fasts that you can try water fasting the most basic and

essential of all of the fasts it's just drink nothing but water for the duration of the fast in this way you consume zero

calories zero nutrients and zero carbs and thus this becomes one of the purest fasts out there many people just

starting out sometimes include a small 50 calories soup broth per day but no

higher as 50 calories are not enough to stop the ketogenic process of your body

breaking down fat storage the next fast that we want to share is

juice fasting this is one of the easiest fasts to get started with from the

perspective that you can go days and days without experiencing hunger because

you are still supplying your body with tons of energy for your body to use we

could talk all about juice fasting but if you really want to learn about this

one go and watch Joe crosses documentaries fat sick and nearly dead

one and two they're absolutely brilliant films about Joe's and others experiences

while juice fasting and how much healing was experienced because of it

intermittent fasting this is when you fast for a period of time during the day

and then break the fast for a meal at some point in your day and then resume fasting this is essentially the basis of

the Ramadan style fast but you don't necessarily have to practice fasting

only when the Sun is up the idea here is to pick a number of hours that you want

to fast for during the day say 18 hours and then you have a small window of six

hours to eat every day ideally you want to reduce this to about a four hour

window and then fast for 20 hours every day this style of fasting works best if

you can commit to it for several weeks which gets your body in the same state

as if you did a three-day water fast drei fasting now before we even describe

this one we'd like to express not to try this fast until you have practiced other

forms of fasting for a long time and not to practice without supervision that said this is going to blow your mind

there is this myth out there that humans can only survive without water for three

days and then you'll die however the longest record for someone

surviving on a dry fast is actually eighteen days it is suggested that this same fast is what was practiced by Jesus

Buddha Moses and Krishna in the old scriptures but nobody knows for sure dry fasting is particularly intense because

it involves cessation of both food and liquid for the duration of the fast some

even restrict physical contact with water as well because under dry fasting

conditions the skin becomes more absorbing

to the moisture in the air and what you touch normally toxins are released

through the liquid in the body but since there is very little water in the body

at this point toxins are eliminated by a unique mechanism whereby each cell

essentially becomes its own furnace to burn up its own waste by attempting to

rebalance the heightened levels of pressure between the inside and the

outside of the cells this method of fasting also releases more living stem

cells into the body than regular fasting a russian doctor named dr. phil INAF has

practiced medical dry fasting with his patients and experienced some tremendous

results in healing some very deadly diseases and has compiled his research into a book called dry medical fasting

myths and reality a translation of the book is available on our website and

will provide links below in the author comments my live action counterpart

Jordan did a seven-day dry fast between the August eclipses of 2017 and you can

read about them on his blog we'll also post links to that in the comments too

there are also a lot of new fasting systems out there which have been

invented recently such as the master fast cleanse this is a fast which

combines intermittent juice fasting and dry fasting where you consume dark

juices for six hours a day and then dry fast for the remaining 18 hours until

the next hydration period you also consume a small amount of psyllium husk

pudding with activated charcoal and bentonite clay which is essentially a

non nutritional fiber that massages your intestines and peels toxins out of the colon as it moves through

then once a week you dry fast for a longer period and that longer dry fast

duration increases over the course of the fast which is upwards of 60 to 120

days our friend Giovanni did this fast and if you'd like to read about the experiences he had you can do so on the

Collective evolution website you'll find links to that story in the author

comments as well now again for those who are just starting fasting or who are

even seasoned vets we'd like to give you some warnings and advice to keep everybody safe firstly be careful and

don't push yourself too hard if you've never done fasts before it can be

jarring and very difficult to do a fast more than a day or two but that's a

great place to start the first three or four days are always the hardest but

once you really get into the flow of it you might even find that you're not even

hungry once the fat-burning really begins also fasting becomes easier with

every friend or family member you do it with when you have mutual support from a

community around you it's just easier than if everybody around you is eating

and you or not where it can become easier to fall off the fast before your body is fully reset for us for about a

year between 2016 and 2017 we adopted a practice of fasting every Sunday as a

spiritual practice and an energetic reset and it felt great it actually

stopped after we did some much longer fasts and now we simply fast when it

feels right - thank you so much for watching and happy fasting

[Music] hey there we'd like to give an extra

special thanks to Elaine and Alisa two of our new artists who helped bring this

video to life we'd also like to give a big shout out to rid Nia who have

provided tremendous support for us as we've been growing this past year and

we're so thrilled to be creating together stay tuned lots more on the way
