I want to talk to you about the movie.

I want to you about life.

I want to talk about Mom,

but I really want to talk about Airstreams.

-Yes.

-Because I know you have Airstreams.

-I have four.

-What? This is insane.

Here's a picture of one of your Airstreams.

I'm obsessed with these things.

Look at this guy. [ Cheers and applause ]

-Yeah. That was when I was parked in Malibu Beach, yeah.

-So, yeah, I actually rented an Airstream this summer

because I wanted -- I'm from -- I'm from --

I was born in Brooklyn, New York.

Sorry, I got to say it.

I'm not a real camper.

-Was it intimidating to start with?

A little bit? -Yeah.

I mean, just even making the choice to camp is a big deal.

[ Laughter ]

That was never brought up in my household.

It was never -- At one point I think I camped in my backyard.

I got a tent at a garage sale.

And I put a tent up in my backyard and I go,

"I'm camping out, Mom."

And she goes, "Okay."

She's almost like in tears that I was doing that.

[ Laughter ]

In Brooklyn, we just stay inside.

We don't like the outdoors. And I go, "I'm doing it."

And then I was there. I was very brave.

And then in the middle of the night, she came out.

She goes, "Come back inside." That was it.

-Half the night? [ Laughter ]

-She was, "I feel like there's a raccoon or something."

-I've got a feeling you finally did it though in an Airstream.

Did you stay a full night till sunrise?

-Full night. Full night. -Mom didn't come over at all?

-Mom didn't come over. No, not at all.

I had -- I had the greatest time ever on the Airstream.

I tell you right now, I recommend it.

I highly recommend doing it.

It is one of the coolest, best things ever,

and I ended up doing it.

I got it on the beach as well for a couple of days.

I go, "I don't know. Can I just --"

-It's outstanding, isn't it?

I mean, the lack of options

are part of what's great about it because it's small.

[ Laughter ]

-You're right. That's kind of the magic of it.

-The magic is, you look around.

You can have one of everything if you have that.

-Including people.

-Yes, including people.

If you're gonna throw your clothes down on the couch,

it's messy.

So it's like one of everything.

Keep it, you know, nice and in line.

But it's -- You can take them anywhere.

I've traveled all over.

I've been to 49 states in mine.

Stayed in 49 states. -Wow.

-Only thing I missed was North Dakota.

Also I have them on the property as live-in guest houses.

And you can also Airstream to go.

You can rent them now in Vegas and L.A.

where they will give you a track and a place to go

and places to camp and set it up for you

to just head out and your campground is already set up

where you're gonna go, when you want to.

-They did that with me because I --

I could barely open the door. [ Laughter ]

I was like, "I need someone to get me --

how do I get out and into this thing, because it's --"

But the thing is, it's just gorgeous.

-They're a great piece of architecture, yeah.

-And do you have air-conditioning in yours?

-I do, on the top.

-Yeah, I had a little air-conditioning,

and that little awning thing came out.

-Yes. -I had the awning out.

-In case you want some shade or if it's raining.

-Yeah. I had two chairs -- -Open up the back windows.

You see that beach in the morning.

There you are, and the great thing about them

is whenever you're tired of a location

you just put them on the trailer

and pull out and find a new backyard the next day.

-That's exactly right.

I did not do that. [ Laughter ]

But I really -- I thought about it.

I thought about it.

I go, "Well, I can't --" I can barely drive.

I mean, I'm a very cautious driver.

I have a truck.

-But you stayed the full night.

-Yeah. -That was the brave thing.

[ Laughter ]

Did you do more than one night?

Did you two nights? -Did I do two nights?

-Did you do two nights?

-I cooked on a fire with a cast-iron pan.

[ Cheers and applause ]

I caught a fish.

-With his bare hands!

-It was unbelievable!

With my pot holder hand, I grabbed the pot out of there.

-Straight out of Brooklyn, baby!

[ Laughter ]

-It was unbelievable.

And I had the greatest time.

I highly recommend it to anyone.

I've never been camping.

Try it. It's so rad. My kids loved it.

I had a great thing.

because you come on the show and we talk about that.

But then, there's many things that I'm jealous of you...

That being barely on the list. I mean, please. Uh, yeah, uh...

But the other thing I'm jealous of --

are you like a creative director for Wild Turkey?

-Yeah. -What?

-Wild Turkey, how about that? -How do I get that job?

-That's a great day job, man. -That is unbelievable.

-Yeah. Great day job.

-How did you -- you just ended up...

-They came looking to me a few years ago

about just sort of just being the face for the brand.

Well, I was already a fan of Wild Turkey.

And so as I started talking to them about ideas

about where the company wanted to go,

where the brand wanted to go, it became obvious

that, hey, you know what? I should be more than the face.

Let me come on and help direct where we're going to go

creatively with the brand. -Yeah.

-Along the way --

-I mean, Wild Turkey's a classic.

-It's a classic. And I met the Russells,

found a story out there in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky,

from those guys who've been doing it one way

and only one way since day one.

They're a great family.

So I started telling their story.

Told the Wild Turkey story.

Along the way I'm talking to Eddie Russell,

the master distiller out there.

I said -- in his ear, I said, "Listen.

I've always wanted to make my own bourbon.

Do you think maybe you and I can brew up some juice

that is my favorite juice?" [ Laughter ]

-Brew up some juice. -So behind --

Brew up some juice. [ Laughter ]

Sounds like moonshine terms, doesn't it?

-Yeah, I love it. This is great.

I want to be there in this meeting, yeah.

-So listen to this hard work I've got to do.

Eddie Russell, we decided,

I'm from Texas, he's from Kentucky.

Let's put a little mesquite wood

in the backbone of that Wild Turkey blend.

-Yeah! -And he's sending me samples,

little pint samples, about 80 something

over two years, and my job,

my sweat equity here is to taste those.

[ Laughter ]

And then write down a note or call him and leave a note

at 3:00 A.M., or draw some picture

of how it felt, the journey it took through the palate.

[ Laughter ] Da, da, da.

Anyway, on my birthday a couple years ago,

I was with my wife,

and we were down to like the 88th bottle.

And I had it, and it was -- it was it.

I said, "That's it."

I didn't tell my wife which one I liked.

She had a sip of the four. She goes, "Ooh, that's it."

I called him. I remember it was 2:30.

Eddie likes to remind me, no, it was 4:30 in the morning

that I called him.

But I said, "This is it. I don't even need a rock on it.

"I don't need to mix it with anything.

This is my favorite tasting bourbon on the planet,"

and that's Wild Turkey Longbranch, which we have now.

-Longbranch. -Yeah.

-And that's it. And you've got a little mesquite,

a little smokey flavor to it. -Yes, sir. Yes, sir.

-Gosh. We're all doing it wrong.

I mean, dude, that is fantastic. -It's a hell of a hobby.

-I love that. And is that out?

-It is out. Yep.

And more is coming out this September.

Going to be wide. It's been a great introduction.

-Man. -And wait till you taste it.

It speaks for itself. -Yeah. All right.

I have to bring up -- I have to bring up your mom.

-Yes. K-Mac. -'Cause I do love her.

-86. -86 years young,

and I just love the stories about her.

But you said that you were going to take her

on this family vacation with you.

-We did. It was time for a proper vacation,

my kids told me. -Yeah.

-And I'm like, "What do you mean?

"We've been in Mauritius. We've been in Australia.

"We've been all these places all over the world.

We've been -- it's all a vacation."

They're like, "No. You're always working, Papai."

Which is what they call me, Papai.

Portuguese for Dad.

So, they said, "No. We haven't been on a proper vacation

when you haven't been working."

So I said, okay. Let's gather all the kids.

Let's get my mom. Let's get my wife's dad.

Let's go to Amalfi Coast outside of Italy.

Let go to the Greek islands.

We meet up with the Harrelson family in Greece.

-As in... -As in Woody.

-Woody Harrelson? -Yeah.

Now Woody is the kind of guy --

Woody's the kind of guy that if you rent the place,

but he shows up before you get there,

he will take the master bedroom.

[ Laughter ]

But more about that later.

-Yeah. -I mean...

Let me just say this about Woody.

Even if the plan on the night is you're going to the Oscars,

it's probably a good idea to take your swimsuit.

[ Laughter ] All right?

But more on that later. Let me get back to Mom.

You know what I'm talking about, Woodrow.

So we're there three weeks, paradise.

Ah, man, we had freedom.

Nobody was even taking pictures, the water --

Greece is beautiful. It's inherently generous.

The sea doesn't bite. The air doesn't bite.

The land doesn't bite. People love family.

If you take the eldest female, which was my mother,

is always the queen in any situation.

We've had a great three weeks.

We've had such a good three weeks that we decide

when it's time to go, man, let's push this

and do this another week.

Everybody unanimously says, "Yes."

So we're not -- we want to cancel those cabs

to the airport that afternoon.

Except my mother, who's all packed up, ready to go.

Her suitcases -- We go, "Mom, we got an idea.

Everyone says we'd like to stay another week in paradise."

She's like, "Well, no.

"No, I don't think that's a good idea.

"My mind was prepared that we leave today,

and I'm ready to go." [ Laughter ]

We're like, "Mom, hang on a minute.

"Hang on a minute, Mom.

"Everyone -- we got another week.

We all thought you'd say 'Thank you.'"

-It's paradise. -All of a sudden she's like,

"I have to get back to my pilates class on Tuesday."

[ Laughter ]

"And I need to go to my salon to get my nails done."

And just as I'm saying this, my wife, very smartly, goes,

"Hey, K-Mac," which is what they call her,

"You know what?

"I know a great nail salon in town here.

"Let's go get our nails done

and we'll do pilates on the beach later on."

And all of a sudden my mom's like, "I'll unpack right now.

I'd love to stay another week." [ Laughter ]

See? -Smart.

-She just needed a little TLC. -She took care of you.

-She just needed a little TLC.

You're constantly working on projects.

And one thing we were talking about is how you're so busy,

you don't have time to do any reading.

You don't read any fiction anymore.

-I just -- Yeah, I don't have time.

-And that breaks your heart,

because you're such a big lover of books.

Yet you told me you developed a process

wherein you don't need the time to read books

because you now can look at the cover of any book,

any work of fiction and, just from the cover image,

know the entire plot of the book.

-Easily. [ Laughter ]

-It seems impossible to me.

-It's very possible.

-All right. Can we test it once again?

-Yes, of course. -All right.

It's time once again for "Fred Judges a Book by Its Cover."

Okay, here's the book.

The book is "The Rising Sea" by Clive Cussler.

Fred, based on this image, what is this book about?

-Well, I can see that it's a Kurt Austin adventure.

-Yeah. Because it says those words.

-Yes. -Yes.

-And this is, um --

It's a sort of long-form cookbook that --

The chapters play out as a sort of recipe.

So, I could tell

that this is about a sort of multilayered lasagna

that has some sort of blue frosting in it.

So they just added some sugar to it,

just to make it a little nicer.

-Sorry, so it's lasagna with, like, cake frosting?

-Yes, sir. This is what the author --

You know, this is their creation, not mine.

-Okay.

-I would use -- for me, I would use some kind of cheese,

some Manchego cheese --

-Oh, I don't want this to be about how you make lasagna.

-Okay, got it.

So, it plays out in that the chef making this

didn't have the right kind of knife

and all he had was this sort of sword.

-Uh-huh.

-So the family sits around. They're like, "Oh, my God.

I can't wait to have this lasagna with the frosting."

And he's like, "Well, I want you all to have some.

I can't really cut it the way you want me to.

I'm going to use this sword

and just jab it into the middle of it."

And they're like, "You know something?

This feels very much like a rising sea."

And he's like, "What do you mean by that?"

They're like, "None of your business.

This is our family.

We don't share everything with you."

-Fred, that's, um --

This book is over 400 pages. -Yes.

-I feel like what you just explained

would maybe take two or three pages tops.

-It's just all the different languages.

Like, they do translate it into different languages throughout.

-Oh, so it's just one little story translated?

-Yes!

You thought the whole thing was one thing?

Can I read you real quick

what the publisher says this book is about?

-Sure. -Okay.

So today .... before I say "tadaa" I changed things up a bit....

I've got a friend that has a knack for interior decorating and I gave this room a makeover with my friend

I really lack an eye for decorating so I'm so thankful to have a friend that can help me out like this

all of my rooms were all over the place with all sorts of random things that I liked

and so I'll be shooting my videos from this room for the forseeable future

and...... I'll be eating....

this new "spicy spicy pork" from family mart

I'll be eating 10 of these special thanks to the viewer who recommended this to me

so if you remember I tried "spicy spicy fish" a while back and this is the same thing but with pork

so I guess its going to be using a pork based broth instead of the fish broth of the other one? perhaps???

this was made as a collaborative effort between 2 restaurants who are known for their fish and pork ramen, respectively

oh wow.... so the only way you can sample the fruit of their efforts is with these instant ramen ...

this is apparently a limited edition release by family mart

the spicy fish ramen was super spicy but really delish and so I really look forward to trying these

Since I much prefer pork broth over fish broth ramen I know I'm going to love this

alrighty lets get our eat on

Let's take a look at what's inside here

soup packet dry soup packet wet

and the spice

The soup that's in here already looks very much like a regular pork broth soup

and this packet is the spicy one huh...

I've already added the regular soup and hot water

and now for the other soup packet

so red

The soup has turned a bright red all of a sudden

and now for the toppings

these toppings have some crazy spicy looking stuff in it

omg it smells crazy

tadaa its done it looks very spicy

I also have four cups of rice here itadakimasu

this looks crazy hot so lets try not to disturb the spicy stuff too much in the middle

and take a taste of the soup as is

not too bad

its pretty good well... as long as we don't mix in the dry spice in the middle

It's very much like a regular pork based soup

but with a definite spicy kick to it

and now to mix in the powder

Without mixing this stuff in.... it's a pretty spicy regular pork broth ramen

don't it look crazy spicy?

S P I C Y

it tastes so differently with it mixed in

Yep it's really spicy

but its not.... inedible

It's perfect for those days where you want to have something really spicy

its not overly spicy that you can't finish it

It goes without saying that people who can't handle Spicy food will have a hard time with this

Those who have a relatively good tolerance to spice This'll probably all right for you

The spice doesn't overpower the flavor of the pork broth at all

You can certainly still taste the pork broth and the spice equally well

when eating spicy foods it really opens up your pores

Now for the noodles

The Soup really sticks to the noodles its pretty spicy

But it's a nice amount of spice

yum

It's kind of dangerous to slurp spicy noodles like this But when eating Ramen ya just gotta slurp them like this

I love having spicy ramen with rice

When eating spicy food it really amps up the sweetness of the rice

I love resetting my palate with the rice and then resuming eating the ramen

This makes me want to add plenty of onion to this

And eggs would be a nice addition as well since it blunts the effects of the spice

When eating alone and you accidentally let food go down the wrong tube you can cough all you want

but it really sucks when it happens in front of your friends

I know if you cough real hard it would solve the issue but if you do it would startle those around you

and people around you would worry so much and ..... yup it sucks when it happens in front of your friends

The soup really sticks to these noodles

And yes I know it's pretty obvious but this doesn't have any fishy flavor and I think I prefer this pork broth one more

the spice level is similar to "Mala"

its on a similar level to mapo tofu I'm really starting to sweat a lot

spicy stuff is a perfect accompaniment to rice

its got a numbing sort of spiciness to it

The spice is very yummy and So addictive

most of the noodles are done now and I've got quite a lot of rice left over

the rice goes so nicely with this but... since there is so much ramen you get a lot of rice leftover

Since we've got all this soup and all this rice...... lets toss em together

I'll go and make it now

tadaa its done I added 6 eggs to it

It looks very yummy itadakimasu

I boiled up the soup and added the rice then some egg and some seaweed to top it

With the added egg its very mellow now

It's not as spicy but the numbing spice still remains

porridge like this really warms you right up

When you make it into a porridge it's so very nice and thick

I just thought of it right now but this would be super delish with extra cheese.. maybe next time

It was very spicy but I feel it was the perfect amount for my tastebuds

It was very spicy yet allowed you to taste the yumminess of the rest of the ingredients

and I loved finishing the dish by making it into a porridge
