How to Rid an Airbnb of 420 Smell - Quick Turnover - Duration: 7:08.

How do you get rid of a 420 smell in an Airbnb on a quick turn?

That's a great question and we're going to talk about that today.

Hi there, I'm Angela Brown and this is Ask A House Cleaner.

This is a show where you get to ask a house cleaning question

and I get to help you find an answer.

Now today's show is brought to us by a brand spanking new Facebook group

that we created for house cleaners that clean Airbnb's

and the Airbnb owners or the vacation rental by owner, (which is VRBO)

and if they clean them themselves, they would want to come to this group.

It's all about cleaning tips to do a quick turnover for your short-term rental.

All right, and I will leave links in the show notes to that

All right, today's question comes from an Airbnb owner or a host who has quick turns

and wants to know how do you get rid of people smoking marijuana inside your home before

the next person comes.

Now the term that they used was "420", and 420 goes back to 1971.

There was a group in San Rafael, California,

five high school students, and they called themselves "The Waldos."

And they heard that there was an abandoned cannabis farm somewhere nearby.

So every day at 4:20PM they would meet outside the walls of the school and they

would go on this little treasure hunt looking to see if they could find some weed.

Well, it's kind of a funny story because they never did find what they were looking for

but it became this little cult.

All right, so now there is an international counterculture day, it's kind of a holiday, if you will,

and it's on April 20th, which is the 4th month, the 20th day and everybody

nationwide gets together and they have a celebration of the legalization of marijuana and in the

areas where it's not legalized, it's a protest.

Okay, so at 4:20PM everybody lights up and they have this big celebration, okay?

So anyway, that's where the term 420 comes from.

But if you're an Airbnb owner and you have a no smoking policy in your house,

that's a problem.

If you have a quick turn and your cleaners come into clean the house and your place reeks

of marijuana, that's a huge problem.

All right, now in a perfect world, everything would be nice and friendly and non-toxic and

whatever, but if you have guests coming in an hour or two hours later, you have to do

some fast acting behaviors to clear the air.

Now, there's really no good way to clear the air that is reeking of marijuana.

So, what we're going to do is just mask it, now I'm not a fan of masking smells but in

this particular case, you may not have a lot of options.

All right, now if you live in an open space where there are lots of wind and whatever,

open the doors and windows and let all the air come in and circulate the house.

If you don't live in an area like that, let's say that you're in an uprise apartment in

New York or something, what you may have to do is turn on the air conditioning so that

the vents will start sending and circulating air throughout the room.

'Cause you want everything to circulate as quickly as possible because as it sends the

air out and it comes back, it will trap whatever it is in the air filters.

So we want to get rid of that stuff as quick as possible.

All right, the next thing that you want to do is there is a product on the market and

I will leave links in the show notes, it's called Ozium and it is a really high impact

odor eliminator.

It doesn't really eliminate the odors it masks the odors, and so you want to spray that in

the air wherever it smells like marijuana.

All right, then the next thing that you want to do is you want to clean up everything with

Lysol All Purpose Spray.

Not a fan of the bleach smell, but this is kind of mixing all the different smells together

so it kind of masks what you have going on.

So you want to clean everything up, now all the tables, all the counters, every place

where they may have rolled.

You want to make sure that you clean all of those areas with a Lysol All Purpose Spray.

That's kind of a bleachy, lemony scent that will help mask the cannabis.

All right, then the next thing that you want to do is after you've cleaned the place and

the air started circulating and you let the Ozium and the Lysol go to work on each other,

then you want to burn some incense.

This is right before your guests arrive, now there's a Nag Champa incense brand that's

very good at eliminating, masking, covering, replacing the cannabis smell.

And I will leave links in the show notes to that as well.

So those are the three things that you can do if you're unable to open the windows and

let the air circulate through.

Now, the no smoking policy is standard.

It's standard in most apartments, most buildings, most public places, most airports.

There are very few places that allow smoking anymore, even if it's legalized.

They just don't allow smoking inside people's places.

So if somebody is smoking inside your place, that is an issue that you want to take up

with Airbnb.

You want to make sure that whatever listing site that you're with, that they know that

the guests that came were smoking inside your house because you do have the ability to rate

and review the customers that come to your house.

So I would make sure that that is a note in there that hey, we had to completely redo

our house because we have a no smoking policy.

There are also Airbnb owners that have decided they will charge a smoking fee, and rental

car companies do this, hotels do this.

They have a no smoking policy and if you smoke in that room and they have to come in and

deodorize everything and replace everything then they charge you a $50 or $75 dollar fee,

which discourages people from doing that in that space.

The problem with cannabis and smoking marijuana inside someone's house is there are fragments

and elements of that even if it's smoke that filters onto everything.

It gets in the carpet, in the bedding, and the drapes and it gets in the air ducts and

so there's this lingering scent.

So you want to get rid of that as soon as possible.

You want to mask it, you just don't even want it to begin with but if it happens and it

will probably will happen at some point, you need to know what these three options are

for masking the scent.

Now it's not an ideal situation, in a perfect situation you would also have the little plugins

that go against the wall and they are little filters and it filters out the air and it

kind of harmonizes the air around the main spaces of your home.

You may have to have those as well.

But then I would let your coming guests know that are arriving soon, hey we've just deodorized

the entire place, we have some smokers come.

It's against our policies, I'm very sorry that you've run into this but I just wanted

to give you a heads up.

And then they come in and it doesn't bother them or whatever but if there's a hint of

a smell at least you gave them a heads up and you let them know.

All right, so that's my two cents for today.

How to get rid of 420 smell.

I hope it never happens but it probably will at some point.

How To Create Saved Email Templates in Gmail | Gmail Canned Responses Productivity Tip - Duration: 3:19.

Hey everyone this is Viren and welcome back to my youtube channel. In

this video I'm gonna share a very small

productivity hack with all of you. So a

lot of you have been asking me to try

these other kind of videos, share how I

work and things like that so I figured

I'll give this a go. This is a very small

productivity hack - Now a lot of times

when I'm typing emails there's the same

kind of email that I keep typing again

and again. For example I want to write

a guest post for someone, I have this

template that I use to send out emails

to all myself blog subscribers. So that's

the same content that I need to send

again and you would rather have an email

template than keep typing the same

message again and again. So I'm going to

show you how you can do that here in

Gmail itself so that's easy for everyone

to use. To get started you need to click

on this settings icon, go to settings, go

under advanced and here you will find

something called canned responses

templates. Enable this for your account, scroll

down here and save. That's it and now you

can start making templates.

Now to create a template you will first

compose a new message, let me just expand

this.

I'm just going to type a very small

email.

So the content could be anything and

once you're done writing this all you

need to do is go here, click on these

more options canned responses - under save

click on new canned response. You can

give this a name so let's say the name

is "can I write a guest post for you?" and

then save it. Now let's delete this email.

The next time I'm composing a new mail

and I want to fill this up all I need to

do is go here, canned responses. Now you

can I can either insert this, create a

new one or delete this. So let's just

insert this one and there you go my

email is already there and all you need

to do is fill in the recipients change

the name probably and then hit Send.

Look, it's very easy to make fun of something you can't do.

Gradually everybody in school came to know about Shyamlal.

Many boys started writing poems like him.

But, there was a problem.

The school inspector was coming to inspect the school.

Students, the school inspector will come to inspect our school tomorrow.

Come to school in neat and tidy uniform.

Try to please him with your creativity and innovation.

I'll take my copy of poems to school tomorrow.

I'll recite a couple of poems for the school inspector.

The poem is ready.

I'm waiting when I'll recite it for the school inspector.

I'll recite a poem before you do.

What is your name? - Shyamlal.

Do you've any extra-curricular activity? - Yes, sir.

' Aunt, aunt, it's so funny.'

'There are strange things happening.'

'Mushrooms growing on elephant's head.'

'Duck's egg in the crow's nest.'

'The dark lane looks hellish.'

'Let's get your head in it.'

'The colorful orangutan falls flat.'

'Gardener, your problem is solved.'

'There's a vacancy in Dharmatala.'

'Mangoes ripen in summer and berries in autumn.'

'Bricks become strong when you burn them in a kiln.'

The goat knocked him.

The inspector was knocked down by the goat.

Help! Help!

What's going on?

The contagious disease of writing poems has spread amongst students.

What's the solution?

Poison helps to get rid of the effect of poison.

Similarly poetry will get rid of poetry.

Students, listen to me.

I'll recite something for you.

I counted the lines, they added up to 14.

Look, I've written a poem.

Everything flew out of the window.

Poetry helps to forget poetry.

Listen you'll write this poem 50 times daily for a month.

You'll submit it to me in school every day.

This poem had amazing quality.

From that day the students stopped writing poems forever.
