LGR Tech Tales - The First Robot Ever Arrested: DC-2 - Duration: 12:13.
The year is 1982. And the robot revolution has arrived.
In the wake of movies like Star Wars, androids and robotic companions had captured the public's
imagination like never before.
As a result there were dozens of entrepreneurs and start-ups attempting to capitalize on
this high-tech obsession, with one of the forerunners being the Android Amusement Corporation.
Their electro-mechanical creations were conceived as fun entertainment devices, built to dazzle
the public at trade shows and get-togethers.
But by 1982, one of their bots known as the DC-2 was making headlines for everything from
participating in legal protests, to serving drinks in the Playboy Mansion, to being apprehended
by the Beverly Hills Police Department in what was likely the first robot "arrest" ever.
What happened?
This is LGR Tech Tales, where we take a look at noteworthy stories of technological inspiration,
failure, and everything in-between.
This episode tells the tale of the Android Amusement DC-2: Robotic Outlaw.
Our story begins in 1978 with the Android Amusement Corporation of Arcadia, California.
Previously known as Games People Play, Android Amusement was the brainchild of Mr. Gene Beley,
a 38-year-old journalist who'd become fascinated with the world of electronics after covering
a speech by science fiction author Ray Bradbury.
Previously this company focused on maintaining video arcade cabinets and pinball machines,
but on becoming the west coast representative of Quasar Industries Incorporated, who built
"Sales Promotional Androids,"
having the word "android" in the new company name seemed fitting.
"Amusement" was a key part of the name as well, emerging from Mr. Beley's personal
philosophy on their android products.
And that was they were amusement devices, show robots,
which he called "mobile entertainment centers."
Several companies with promises of autonomous android servants and domestic robots had failed
to meet expectations already, and Beley wasn't keen on misleading anyone.
The first bot they sold was Quasar Industry's Klatu, a 240 pound, five foot four inch tall
machine that was available to rent for trade shows, parties, county fairs, and anyone who
had between $700 and $2000 a day to spare.
Klatu could be outfitted in various bodies depending on the venue, but the idea remained
the same: it was a remote-operated machine that could be rolled around to talk with patrons
and crack jokes with sci-fi flair.
But it wasn't long before Android Amusement severed ties with Quasar and began development
on their own androids.
Initially this was done with the help of Mr. Ray Raymond, a designer of restaurant equipment
who'd contacted Beley after reading an article he'd written about robotics.
Their first bot was one they named Argon: a 300 pound, five foot tall machine that initially
cost about $50,000 in parts to produce in 1979.
Much like Klatu before it, Argon wasn't a "robot" in the strictest definition,
seeing as it wasn't autonomous, but was rather a remote-controlled entertainment machine.
Argon was packed with electronics to let it move around, turns its head, move its arms,
and play computer games on a small CRT TV in its chest.
The whole setup was controlled remotely by an operator just out of sight, and the voice
that came from it was spoken by the operator through an inconspicuous wireless mic and
broadcast through Argon.
Still, this was one amusing android indeed, captivating audiences young and old at everything
from business openings, to industry conferences, to local bars.
"People may write him off as a space age Mickey Mouse now,
but he's the wave of the future," said Beley in 1979.
"It's like the Wright brothers building the first airplane.
The possibilities are limitless with robots."
And they certainly didn't limit their robots to looking like robots either, as another
early offering from his company was a pair of motorized mannequins
called Adam and Andrea Android.
Ray Raymond had left the company by the time these launched, but the core electronics were
quite similar in functionality to his Argon creation.
The idea was to make Adam and Andrea more humanoid, ideal for parties and discos.
For example, an operator would wheel either of the $10,000 androids over to various party-goers,
offer them their hand, and bring them over to the dance floor, all while transmitting
speech as their head moved side to side.
"Those two androids were basically novelties," said Beley in later years.
"We felt that the next logical step was a robot that served a useful purpose."
What resulted in the latter half of 1980 was The Drink Caddy 1, or DC-1, which did exactly
as the name suggests: it was a caddy for drinks.
Built on top of a motorized wheelchair base and controlled using 72MHz RC aircraft components,
DC-1 cost around $5,000 and stood four and a half feet tall.
It held a tray for delivering 10-ounce mixed drinks, stored bottles and canned beverages
inside its body, had metallic arms made from Sweetheart cup dispensers, played music from
an AM/FM radio in its chest, and kept chilled ice cubes under a removable plastic head.
And while it never sold in great numbers, only being stocked in a single Beverly Hills
boutique, the revenue from selling and renting out the DC-1 was enough to create a successor.
Finally, Android Amusement's ultimate show bot was released: the DC-2.
Priced between $9,000 and $20,000 and standing at four and a half feet tall, the Drink Caddy
2 was a culmination of the best tech available in 1981.
It still had a tray for carrying drinks, but now you could swap out the booze for an 8-bit
microcomputer system, with an Atari 400 and a Commodore VIC-20 as the most common options.
These ran through a 5 or 9 inch color CRT TV in its chest, handy for both playing games
and displaying promotional material from the computer or a VHS player.
And like every bot going back to Klatu it had a speaker system for broadcasting the
voice of a remote operator, AM/FM radio, as well as optional dual 8-track cassette players
for playing music, sound effects, and pre-recorded speech.
And on top of its sleek fiberglass body was a bulbous transparent head containing an integrated
video camera, which when output through a TV would show the DC-2's point of view.
And even though it was only being produced at 6 units a month, demand was high relative
to previous bots, with exports to Japan, England, Australia, South Africa, and West Germany.
For a while the DC-2 was seemingly popping up everywhere.
It was on the cover of National Geographic World.
It was a headline feature of retail promotion events at Dayton's Department Stores in Minnesota.
It hosted student tours through the facilities of computer storage company, Verbatim.
It was the robot mascot for Fromex One Hour Photo Systems.
It showed up in the May 1981 issue of Playboy magazine after a specially-built DC-2 was
purchased for Hugh Hefner and gifted to him for Christmas with the help of Bob Keeshan,
better known as Captain Kangaroo.
A DC-2 even ended up picketing in front of the San Mateo County Public Courthouse, hired
to protest the state's divorce laws
and blasting the song "She Got the Goldmine (I Got the Shaft)" by Jerry Reed.
"This must be the most unusual assignment we've had yet.
I think it's the first time a robot ever picketed anywhere."
And it certainly wouldn't be the last unusual DC-2 event Gene Beley would be questioned over.
On August 18, 1982 a DC-2 was seen roaming the streets of Beverly Hills, just off the
famous Sunset Boulevard on North Beverly Drive.
Its operator was nowhere in sight, but it was rolling up and down the sidewalks, talking
to passers-by, and offering up Android Amusement company business cards.
Not only that, but it was rush hour, and the DC-2's presence was slowing down traffic
even more and starting to draw a crowd.
The police arrived on-scene, assuming it was some kind of unauthorized publicity stunt,
asking the DC-2 to identify what it was doing there and who was controlling it.
After the unseen operator refused to identify themselves or shut down the robot, the officers
began looking for a way to disable the battery.
The robot began fleeing the police,
reportedly shouting "Help me, they're trying to take me apart!"
After a brief pursuit they were able to disable the bot, load it onto a tow truck, and hauled
it to the nearest precinct to be locked up until the owner was found.
Since it was stocked with Mr. Beley's business cards,
investigators headed to his home for questioning.
It was determined that he wasn't the one controlling the DC-2, but rather it was a
result of his two sons taking it out for a joy ride of sorts.
Scott and Shawn Beley, then aged 17 and 15 respectively, had taken the DC-2 out of the
back of the van they were driving, it having been left in there after a promo event the day prior.
The boys decided to have a bit of fun in the suburbs of Beverly Hills, but panicked after
the police arrived, leaving the bot behind as it was hauled off to jail.
Initially suspecting it was an adult behind the robot's actions, Beverly Hills PD had
planned to charge its owner with operating a business without the proper license, solicitation
of business on a public sidewalk, and obstructing an officer in the performance of his duty.
But after talking to the two youngsters, they decided not to charge anyone, passing them
off to the department's Youth Services Section.
In the end, the duo had to pay a $40 towing fee and received a talking-to from youth services
about what's allowed on the sidewalks of Beverly Hills.
"The kids had it without permission and were just screwing around.
There will be no criminal filing."
said Lieutenant Russell Olson, quickly following it up with "I'll guarantee you, if other
people try it we will run the gauntlet.
We don't take something like this lightly."
As for what happened with the DC-2 afterward?
Well after being freed from jail, so to speak, and making headlines around the country, it
went onto be used for promotional events for several years, along with its DC-2 siblings.
One unit ended up playing the role of a robot butler in the 1984 feature film, Covergirl,
starring the late Jeff Conaway as a tech entrepreneur character who, among other things, designed
robots and androids.
DC-2s were repurposed for use in TV shows as well, like Episode 20 of the third season
of the show Hill Street Blues, where a unit they called the TK4600 was outfitted in armor
plating and weaponry.
Another DC-2 received a fancy tuxedo-clad overhaul, referred to as Mr. Telebot, which
roamed conference center hallways and
danced to Bruce Springsteen songs at the 1985 Robot World Congress.
But this popularity peaked in the mid-80s, with Android Amusement losing momentum as
public interest moved on.
Ray Raymond, the company's original robot designer, ended up working on other robotics-related
products under Animation International, like the 15 foot tall Blastar Spaceship prototype:
a smoke-filled maze filled with robots that participants blasted with lasers.
That was the idea at least, if this $250,000 amusement device was ever produced.
And Gene Beley continued his career in journalism: founding, editing, and publishing the Country
News publication in Morgan Hill, California, and authoring a monthly article for Sea Magazine
from his 28-foot yacht floating in the California Delta.
He also made the media rounds in the mid-2000s for his alternate recordings of Johnny Cash's
famous 1968 "At Folsom Prison" performance, as well as writing a 234-page biography on
Ray Bradbury, the author who'd inspired his foray into electronics in the first place.
But the DC-2 robots and the company behind them gradually faded into obscurity while
the idea of a robot revolution was once again relegated to science fiction.
Even if that much-hyped uprising still hasn't taken place as advertised, the 21st century
has seen a notable uptick in the adoption of robotic and artificially intelligent companions.
They may not yet do much more than clean your floors, perform interactive search engine
queries, or look supremely unsettling, but now more than ever the idea of a future filled
with robots seems inevitable.
Only time will tell though if one of these modern machines will ever claim the honor
of being incarcerated by police in Beverly Hills.

What If Apple Went Bankrupt? - Duration: 4:48.
Apple is the world's first and only trillion dollar company.
A trillion dollars is a one with 12 zeroes behind it.
That's several hundred billion more than other Silicon Valley companies.
If apple were a country, it would be the 27th richest country in the world behind Pakistan
and Malaysia.
Without a doubt, Apple is the biggest, most profitable country on earth.
That being said, there are a lot of people who don't like apple or their products and
would love to see it fail.
Apple has gotten to a point where that's highly unlikely, but what if it did?
Today, life's biggest questions asks, What if apple went bankrupt?
Welcome back to Life's Biggest Questions, the channel that asks the fundamental questions
of life.

to see.
Nokia, Motorolla, Blackberry.
These are just a few names of tech companies who have fallen from grace over the last 15
years alone.
Remember when everyone thought blackberry phones were the coolest thing on the market?
How about Motorola Razrs?
I begged my mom for 2 years to get me a razr, I absolutely had to have one.
But these must-have products weren't sought after for very long because newer, better
products hit the market.
One of the main reasons why companies like nokia, motorolla and blackberry have fallen
is a lack of innovation.
They simply couldn't keep up with the changing times, and the advancement of technology.
The same could be said for what's going on with apple right now.
Steve Jobs was known for his innovative ideas, and now that he's gone, many of the new
products apple is putting out lack lustre, and are years behind their competitors.
Apple phones just got a 1080p display and android users have had it for years.
Not to mention, these products are a lot more expensive than apple's competitors.
In order for apple to go bankrupt, something extremely horrible would have to happen to
the company and its stock.
They would have to mess up big time, repeatedly for several years.
Loyal apple fans would have to slowly loose interest in apple products.
Maybe other products would pop up on the market that would greatly outshine apple's products,
and apple just couldn't keep up.
This is pretty unlikely, the most profitable country in the world could most definitely
afford to hire the best engineers and create futuristic products to keep this from happening.
This is just a hypothetical video, I'm just outlining the ways in which an apple bankruptcy
could come about.
Apple actually already almost went bankrupt 20 years ago in 1996.
Microsoft, one of the major enemies of apple, actually invested in apple when this happened
so that they wouldn't be a monopoly.
Its crazy to say now but If Microsoft hadn't invested in apple, there would be no such
thing as iphones, imacs, ipads or ipods.
Apples stocks went from $6 a share in 1997 to $80 per share by January 2006.
By 2010, Apples market cap exceeded Microsoft's.
From near bankruptcy to the most valuable company in history, Apple's story is quite
possibly the greatest comeback in history.
But as with in life, the greater the height, the farther you can fall, and if apple went
bankrupt, it would be a very far, painful fall indeed.
If apple went bankrupt, Either Samsung or google could buy the rights to apple's intellectual
property.
Maybe google could purchase apple and keep the company alive.
That being said, Androids would likely become the dominant phone company on earth.
Or perhaps another company not yet created would emerge to take apple's place.
It should be noted that If apple went bankrupt, that doesn't mean that apple phones wouldn't
cease to exist.
they would still work.
Working apple products could become more sought after, perhaps even revered like antiques.
Either that or they would be thrown out and forgotten.
However anyone who had purchased music or films on itunes, apps from the app store or
icloud storage would essentially lose it if apple went bankrupt.
When you agree to apple's terms of service, you are only renting a song or title.
It sucks, but its true.
Its probably pretty unlikely that anyone would own an apple computer anymore, because they
would be difficult to upkeep.
Once again, everyone would have a Windows PC.
If apple filed for bankruptcy, that doesn't mean the complete and utter end of the company.
The fall of the Lehman brothers was the largest corporate bankruptcy in US history.
The Lehman Brothers were once worth 691 billion.
That's pretty close to what apple is worth now.
The Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy on September 15th 2008.
Its major assets were scooped up by Barclays Capital and Nomura.
General Motors went bankrupt in 2009, with assets worth 91 billion.
It was kept alive by government bailout loans.
It returned to the public markets in 2010, and now the treasury department still owns
32%.
Another way apple could bankrupt is as the result of an entire stock market crash and
a deep economic depression, in which case many of the world's biggest companies would
also go bankrupt, and that's just a whole other topic of discussion, maybe even a future
episode of life's biggest questions.
In conclusion, It is extremely unlikely that apple would ever go bankrupt.
But as we at life's biggest questions like to say, never say never.

GTA Episodes from Liberty City Beta Version and Removed Content - Hot Topic #14 - Duration: 20:01.
Welcome to a new episode of Hot Topic.
I'm Gary7 MT for the GTA Series Videos Crew and we're finally wrapping up our Grand Theft Auto 4 trilogy.
To be precise we're talking about the beta and removed content from the two episodes:
The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony.
Before starting, let us again thank, WildBrick142, Rented, t3h PeNgU1N oF d00m,
Apex Predator, Voggs and sebbellic01, The Cutting Room Floor and the GTAForums and GTA Wikis users and staff.
In the previous episode we focused on the main game of the HD era.
With Episodes from Liberty City, we're delving deeper into the universe that once and for all changed the concept of what Downloadable Content could be.
GTA: Episodes from Liberty City was officially announced as "episodic content"
for Grand Theft Auto 4 on September 28th, 2006 by Peter Moore at the X06 event in Barcelona.
Microsoft and Rockstar Games have entered into a strategic partnership to provide exclusive content via Xbox Live.
The two episodes were the first attempts by Rockstar Games to change what was known as "Downloadable Content",
but that experiment, unfortunately, didn't produce the desired results, according to Rockstar and Take-Two.
Probably the main reason was that, despite the 50 million dollar deal with Microsoft to have both episodes as an exclusive for the Xbox 360
and the almost 3 million copies sold,
Episodes from Liberty City wasn't as profitable as expected.
But enough with the historical minutia and let's get to the good stuff starting with the first of the two episodes:
The Lost and Damned.
Hey, you ready?
Sure, let's do this. Nothing like selling some dope to let you know you're alive.
Let's go.
Yeah, let's do this.
Alright, c'mon.
From his introduction in GTA 4, Johnny Klebitz changed a bit more before becoming the badass protagonist of the game.
In his own story he's a little older and he wears a golden earring on his top left ear.
His clothes have also gone through some changes.
He originally wore a leather vest,
that turned into a full black leather jacket on which have been added a lot of patches - each with a specific meaning.
As for the other characters, Jason had a different outfit we see him wearing in the GTA 4 mission "No Love Lost",
Get away from Mr. Faustin's daughter.
F**k you, this ain't Russia and we ain't communists.
Terry had a different outfit too, seen once in a pre-release screenshot of the game.
Yeah it is. How the f**k did that happen?
Ashley Butler, Johnny's girlfriend, changed too from the model seen in GTA 4 to the one used in the Lost and Damned.
Like Johnny, she also makes an appearance in GTA 5 where she eventually dies due to a bad batch of drugs,
way after the events of Mr. Philips.
F**k you, Trevor.
I still love her.
Alright, cowboy.
Hey, I know. Hey, c'mon.
Surely the model that changed the most from GTA 4 to The Lost and Damned is Jim Fitzgerald.
His entire narrative arc in The Lost and Damned is set before the events of the mission
"No Way on the Subway" in GTA 4.
In this mission, Niko's objective is to recover the money stolen by Johnny from a previous deal,
and while trying to do that, he kills the Fitz, who is the bald overweight caucasian ped, greying ginger hair and beard.
That this character is Johnny's friend is confirmed via the game's files name.
The same model can also be seen in The Lost and Damned
next to the actual Jim character model at the end of the mission "Collector's Item".
This is one of the few times where Rockstar completely changed the aspect of the character, from the beta to its final version.
Yeah. F**k 'em. I guess we're rich then.
Hold on to it, brother.
You can bet your balls on it.
Rockstar created eight of all the choppers available in The Lost and Damned while working on GTA 4,
and all are hidden in the game codes, yet obtainable through modding or by using a trainer.
These bikes are the Daemon,
Diabolus,
Lycan,
Nightblade,
Revenant,
Wolfsbane,
the Angel
and Johnny's custom built Hexer, which was a bit different considering the official artwork.
Some of these models are beta or just unfinished, like the Revenant and the Daemon,
but the rest are almost identical to the final versions we see in The Lost and Damned.
Another vehicle, that didn't make the cut - this time a car - is the Tampa.
It's fully coded and usable if spawned with a trainer, but only shown in front of the Pay 'n' Spray during the game's opening cutscene.
For the Biff, a different and unknown version of the Admiral, and the Rhino
we instead have only a few lines of code and that's it.
Two possibly removed weapons are a full sized Uzi shown in the hands of Angus Martin in a piece of game artwork
and the utility knife used during the mission "Was It Worth It?".
Moving away from weapons, The Lost MC Clubhouse was smaller and the exterior of the building was newer or less time-worn.
Inside the MC, there was probably supposed to be a Fight Club,
but was later moved and introduced in The Ballad of Gay Tony.
There was also a planned fully functional skate park to rule on a BMX somewhere.
This was completely removed and never re-introduced,
maybe due to problems with the physics engine or just because it seemed out of place with the thematic of the game.
Don't you ever get tired of following Billy without knowing what's going on?
That's what you do with a leader, dumbass.
Are you sad that I wasn't following you, Johnny?
I'd be nothing but embarrassed to have you kissing my ass all day, Brian.
And while we're talking about removed stuff,
the ability to date girlfriends and change clothes was also removed in The Lost and Damned.
While the first didn't really fit with Johnny's story and his on-off relationship with Ashley,
the ability to buy some new clothes at the Russian Store instead would have given the player at least some customization options.
Hey, yo, who that?
Malc, DeSean, Johnny. Brother of mine.
Aight?
Hey.
Wassup?
According to an unverified source - so take all this with a grain of salt -
Malc's role in the game was bigger and he originally gave missions to Johnny.
Still unverified, people also talk of a mission involving a drive-by shooting with the whole biker chapter against a Police Car.
This is probably deduced from a scene that can be seen in the very first official trailer of The Lost and Damned,
a scene set during the first mission of the game considering Billy is on the bike with Johnny.
One mission that actually really did change was "Politics".
In this mission Johnny was supposed to get an airport employee uniform in order to gain access to the runway,
while in the final version we just have to reach a gate left open by some dude Stubbs paid off.
Mucho gusto.
Still tied to Stubbs are four dropped missions
- two tied to the story, while the other two are "Stubbs' Dirty Laundry" side-missions.
Sadly, all that's left are a line or two of text from just one of these side-missions.
Thanks to which we know that Johnny was to blow up a truck by riding an explosive-armed motorbike.
The bomb was activated by reaching 88mph - a not-so-veiled reference to Back to the Future -
and then blow when the speed dropped below that.
Now let's move onto this video's next topic - the second episode from Liberty City:
GTA: The Ballad of Gay Tony.
This title interjected something into the game that had been missing from Rockstar's version of the Big Apple,
nightlife.
This episode was officially announced on July 2009 and released just four months after that for Xbox 360
- while PC and PlayStation 3 players had to wait 'till April 2010 to play both episodes.
Hey, you saved me, man, made me.
Gay Tony will always be the king of this town.
You are this town.
In The Ballad of Gay Tony a lot of things had been changed or removed.
Character wise, the 3D model of Luis Lopez that we see during the missions "Three Leaf Clover",
"Museum Piece", "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" and "Diamonds in the Rough",
was definitely less detailed than the one we actually use in the second episode.
In the trailer video focused on Luis,
we can see the young man wearing the black and brown Perseus suit with blue jeans
- which could lead to two different lines of thought.
Players originally had the liberty to use clothes as preferred instead of choosing from a selection of fixed outfits.
Or this could have been an outfit removed to avoid mixing day clothes with smart, nightlife clothes.
Just like Luis, Tony also undergoes some significant changes from the one we see in GTA 4,
where he wore a different pair of sunglasses with a purple tint,
and in The Lost and Damned, where he didn't even have glasses on.
Tony, they're gorgeous.
Just like you.
Come on, can we do the hand off please and get out of here?
This is too much.
The golf minigame is something that was originally supposed to be included in GTA 4
- thanks to a complete set of animations for Niko in the main game
- but moved onto the second episode, just like the previously mentioned Fight Club.
You see this s**t?
And while we're still on activities and friends, due to the presence of their names in the dartboard minigames,
it's safe to assume that Tony, Mori and Brucie could be originally taken out on friend activities, like his two best friends.
Moreover, Armando, like Jacob and Terry in the two previous titles,
was supposed to be able to sell every damn weapon in the game, including the Desert Eagle and the Micro Uzi.
I'll see you soon, bro.
An unknown character who goes by the name Aleks Thornton was meant to appear in the game, but was later removed.
All we have of him, is a texture in which we learn that he's the Director of the C.I.A. - renamed IAA in GTA 5
- that he lives in Algonquin and assorted other details.
Now let's talk about vehicles.
The classic Faggio introduced in the second episode, was initially called Calabrone - which means Hornet in Italian
- according to the file names and the badge.
The Skylift was originally different from its real life counterpart as we can see from the first trailer of the game.
Get ready for liftoff, motherf**ker.
Like in The Lost and Damned, we also have some cut vehicles in The Ballad of Gay Tony.
The first is called "Robin" of which only a single line of code remains.
Probably Rockstar's first attempt at bringing the iconic Reliant Robin into the series.
Another removed vehicle is a fully drivable, but wrecked, Police Cruiser
that we can actually spawn in the game and use as a normal vehicle.
Exactly like the Brickade, a large armored truck easily obtainable in every PC copy of the game
- but also available in the original console version and obtainable through heavy modding.
Weapons changed a bit too, from the Assault SMG that didn't have a silencer,
to the automatic shotgun, originally fully automatic with a much faster rate of fire.
Another difference is that the scope of the Advance Sniper rifle wasn't tinted green,
while the parachute was entirely yellow.
As far as missions go, we can say that the previously mentioned Aleks Thornton
might be the target of a cut mission given by Ray in the game
- a mission we can only speculate about unfortunately 'cuz there is no info about it at all.
The time for negotiations is over.
Do what needs to be done in his boardroom. Send a message.
Hey I ain't a hitman, bro. I mean, I'll fight anyone, do whatever, but I ain't a contract killer.
Still on missions, in the final one, "Departure Time",
Luis was originally meant to interrupt a meeting Bulgarin had at the airport.
After a brief shootout, the bad guy would flee in a Huntley Sport -
identified in the game as a Range Rover Sport - with an escort convoy of cars full of bodyguards.
Luis' objective was to get a specific vehicle and use it to reach the convoy,
kill the guards and then Bulgarin.
But the mission turned out to be a little different.
According to some in-game files, during the mission "Corner Kids",
Luis, Enrique and Armando have to reach a dock to oversee a drug deal that gets interrupted by the police.
Here, instead of backtracking to the main route and escaping using the car,
Luis was supposed to call Tony for backup with the latter promising to reach the area using a helicopter.
While waiting for Tony, the player was supposed to take down the police snipers, helicopters and boats.
Once Tony arrives, the trio was to climb a rope to board the helicopter
and fly away from the cops and towards a helipad where the mission would end.
Bye-bye, gentlemen.
Several story missions undergo minor changes
In "High Dive", for example, players had the choice to spare the life of the snitch.
In "Caught With Your Pants Down" Luis was supposed to drive to Westminster with Yusuf to pick up the Swift.
During the mission "In the Crosshairs" the building we are on was supposed to catch fire,
forcing players to find another way to get out,
while in "Boulevard Baby" the owner of the club wanted to see Luis in his office.
Finally, based on what we see in a pre-release trailer, Tony was to accompany Luis in the mission "Bang Bang".
You ain't doing this.
I've got to. It's the only way we can survive. Get out of my way.
I'm sorry. As much as I'd like to right now, I'm not letting you kill yourself.
Try and stop me.
Okay.
According to a preview and some leftover game files, there were two more missions tied to a specific crazy ex-girlfriend
- we are clearly talking about the random character Margot who we meet twice in the final version of the game.
Did you get the book I sent you?
No.
The flowers?
No. Listen, Margot, you're a nice girl, and it was nice hooking up with you,
but it - it was over a year ago.
In the beta, two more missions were tied to her. The first was probably the first original encounter with her.
Luis bumps into her while she was shopping and he gives her a lift home.
Once at home, her brothers who don't like Luis appear.
Her bros express their disdain physically but from that point on what happens is unknown,
but considering Luis' specialty, we can assume a fight ensues.
In the second removed mission instead, the same ex-girlfriend thinks that Luis is cheating on her and plants a bomb in the other woman's car.
After discovering her evil plan, the character has to reach the car,
steal it and dump it in the river before the time expires -
all this while being chased by the police and at the same time trying to avoid damaging the car too much.
You know, to avoid detonating the bomb.
And before ending this episode, exactly like GTA 4, let's talk for a moment about the long list of cut songs from these episodes.
A lot more rock was supposed to be on Liberty Rock Radio in The Lost and Damned,
including "Ace of Spades" by Motörhead and "Kickstart My Heart" by Mötley Crüe.
While The Ballad of Gay Tony was to have songs like
"Head Over Heels" by Tears For Fears or Gloria Gaynor's "Never can say Goodbye".
The entire new list of songs that were added to Vladivostok FM
were meant to be on a completely new radio station called EuroDANCE FM - according to game files.
And about the songs, we can't ignore the fact of what happened after the 10th anniversary of Grand Theft Auto 4's release,
when many licenses for a huge number of songs in both the main game and the two episodes expired.
It's unknown if Rockstar could have the option to renew those contracts or not,
but what they decided instead was clear,
which was to just add some more music to replace tracks like
"Return To The Hills" by Iron Maiden and "Still in Love" from Rose Royce.
And the very first song that every player hears during the introduction of Grand Theft Auto 4, when Roman welcomes Niko at the docks,
a song that will always remain among the beautiful memories from this game.
- Niko! My cousin! I can't believe it! You're here! - Hey!
- Welcome to America! - Zdravo, burazeru.
What?
And that's that.
In an already gritty, powerful story of vengeance and forgiveness,
Episodes from Liberty City added two brilliant DLCs with two new completely different experiences.
The stories of Johnny and Luis showed the world what a DLC or episodic content could really be,
but unfortunately, it was too good to last in an industry driven by money.
"Yo, yo, yo, is that a diamond in your pocket or are you just pleased to see me", and s**t.
There might be more removed and disabled content
but nothing missing is so drastic it changes what these games are for all of us.
Peace and prosperity be damned.
Peace and prosperity be damned my brother.
GTA 4 with its expansions was for a brief moment a somewhat different game in a slightly different place.
Liberty City wasn't that chaotic, rich and diverse representation of a modern day New York City,
but a much bigger state with airports, countryside and a lot more -
a dream that Rockstar clearly turned into reality with its more ambitious sequel,
Grand Theft Auto 5.

Tutorial - Free Flight (new) - Duration: 6:09.
Hello, in this tutorial I will explain the controls
to manually drive a spaceship in Free Flight mode.
In order to enter Free Flight mode
you must be selecting a planet or moon,
and be close enough to it
to be into its gravitational sphere of influence.
When you are close enough to the planet or moon
the Free Flight mode button will appear
at the lower right of the screen.
Tap it and some new buttons will appear
to allow you to select the type of spaceship you want to use.
You can tap it again to make those buttons disappear.
To enter Free Flight mode
decide which type of spaceship you want to control
and tap on its button.
Keep in mind that some buttons may be disabled
if you haven't upgraded to the full version of the app.
When you enter Free Flight mode
you will see the selected spaceship just in front of you.
The spaceship will start in free fall
towards the selected planet,
so the first thing that you should do
is to put it into a stable orbit.
But first let's have a look
at the information and controls you will see on the screen.
At the left part of the screen, below the spaceship label,
you will see all the relevant information
related to the Free Flight mode.
Distance: Refers to the distance from the camera to the spaceship.
Delta-v:
This value shows the total amount of delta-v
spent by the spaceship.
This parameter is important
because there is a limited amount of delta-v
a spaceship can produce before running out of fuel.
The maximum amount of delta-v
will depend on the spaceship type.
At the right you will see the percentage of the total amount of delta-v
that has been consumed by the spaceship.
In orbit around Earth:
This line shows the current status of the spaceship,
in this case it is orbiting the Earth.
Distance from Earth:
This shows the distance to the surface
of the main body the spaceship is orbiting.
Escape velocity:
this is the speed the spaceship would need
(at its current position)
to escape the gravitational pull from the planet.
Circular velocity:
This is the tangential speed the spaceship would need
(at its current position)
to be into a stable circular orbit.
|V|:
This is the total speed of the spaceship
respect to the main body it is orbiting.
Vr:
This is the radial speed of the spaceship,
that is the speed in the direction to the main body it is orbiting.
Vt:
This is the tangential speed of the spaceship,
that is the speed in a direction perpendicular to the main body it is orbiting.
Now, let's put the spaceship into a stable orbit.
At the bottom Right of the screen you will see the Spaceship Direction button,
tap it so it will provide some controls to help you maneuver the spaceship.
Now you will see some buttons to select the orientation of the spaceship:
This button is used to select a retrograde (clockwise) orbit around the target
This one selects a prograde (counterclockwise) orbit arount the target
This selects an outward direction, away from the target
This one selects an inward direction to the target
This selects a backward direction: opposite to the current speed
This selects a forward direction: the same as the current speed
This button is used to lock the current direction of the spaceship
This one is used to free the spaceship direction:
the spaceship will face in the same direction as the camera.
You can manually change the target
with the button at the left of the Spaceship Direction button,
but that is mostly useful for interstellar trajectories only.
By default, the target will always be the same object the spaceship is orbiting.
At the bottom of the screen you will also see two indicators:
One is an arrow indicatig the current direction in which the spaceship is moving.
The other is an artificial horizon to get an idea of the position of the planet.
The best way to put a spaceship into a stable orbit
is to select a prograde or retrograde direction
and turn on the engines until you reach the right speed.
In this case I will select a prograde orbit.
Now we will turn on the engines
with the Engine button at the right of the screen.
As long as you tap that button
the engines will be activated,
and the spaceship will keep accelerating at 9.8 m/s².
You can also use the button just above the Engine button
to make the activation permanent until you tap that button again.
This level of acceleration is usually too slow,
so you may want to use the timeslider
to make the spaceship accelerate faster.
You will notice that two new parameters have appeared
at the left part of the screen:
Periapsis and Apoapsis
These parameters will always be shown
unless the eccentricity of the orbit is too high.
Periapsis is the minimum distance from the planet
of the current orbit.
Apoapsis is the maximum distance from the planet
of the current orbit.
Now we can zoom out
to have a clear view of the spaceship trajectory.
You can use the timeslider to increase the time speed,
but since the trajectory will be continuously re-calculated in real time
there will be a limit at how fast the time can be accelerated.
If you try to put the time speed too fast
it will be automatically lowered
if required by the trajectory calculation.

(car tires humming)
- [Narrator] Sometimes we're walking on ice
that's just thin layers like this with water moving below
and then sometimes we're walking on ice
that's already over three meters thick.
(brisk, energetic music)
And then just do up the ankle strap
and bring it around like this.
(helmet strap adjustor clicking)
(brisk, energetic music)
(snow swooshing)
(water rushing)
(skates gliding)
We're gonna see lots of cool things.
We're gonna be walking along flowing water by the river.
As we go further and further into the canyon
you're gonna see huge ice buildings.
(brisk, energetic music)
That's why I mentioned, it's like being in a refrigerator.
It's kinda the exact scenario here.
It's not a lot of wind coming through here
and you're surrounded by ice.

Tutorial - Advanced Flight - Duration: 9:09.
Hello, in this tutorial I will explain how to perform
a successful interplanetary orbit in Free Flight mode.
Before launching the spaceship first you should make sure
that you have the right alignment of the planets to perform the orbit.
To help you with that,
when selecting a planet you will see at the top right of the screen
an indication showing the time to the next launch window,
and the intended destination for that launch window.
In this case, we want to perform an orbit to Jupiter,
but for that launch window we would have to wait for many days.
You can tap the fastforward button at the top right of the screen
to accelerate time automatically until the launch window begins.
Now is the right time to launch the spaceship.
You will notice that the launch window is intended from L2 to Jupiter,
so you should spawn the spaceship at L2 to make the orbit easier.
This button at the bottom right of the screen can be used
to select the different Lagrange points of the planet.
Every time you tap the Lagrange button, the camera will cycle
through the different Lagrange points associated to the planet.
Use it to select L2, and then you can spawn a spaceship at that position.
Now you should use the Spaceship Direction button
to select a prograde orbit,
and then turn on the engine to start accelerating.
In order to have a clear view of your orbit around the Sun
first you have to escape the Earth's gravitational sphere of influence.
Accelerating to 2,000 m/s should be enough for that
Now you can use the timeslider to accelerate time until you escape
Earth's gravitational influence and start orbiting around the Sun.
Zoom out to get a better view of your orbit.
Then you have to accelerate again in a prograde direction
until your apoapsis matches Jupiter's orbit.
Now your orbit should send you to a close approach to Jupiter.
Use the time slider to accelerate time until you get close to your destination,
and make minor corrections if you see the spaceship gets deviated
from its expected orbit.
The most delicate part of the orbit
is when you get to the point of closest approach to Jupiter.
You may have to make some corrections to the orbit
to make sure that you enter into Jupiter's graviational sphere of influence.
Now you will see that your current speed is too fast relative to Jupiter,
so you will have to make some additional corrections
until you get into a stable orbit around Jupiter.
Now, what if you wanted to make an interstellar travel?
In order to do that, first select a suitable starting position (for example L2)
and then select a spaceship capable of interstellar travel,
for example Project Daedalus.
Now tap into the Target button to select the destination star system,
then tap the Spaceship Direction button to select Inward direction.
Once the spaceship is aligned with the destination star system
you can turn on the engines.
Unlike interplanetary orbits,
interstellar travel requires huge amounts of delta-v,
so you will have to keep accelerating for a long amount of time just
Just make sure you have enough fuel left to decelerate and manouver
when you reach you destination star system.
