CARDAMOM PROTECTS LIVER AND HEART HEALTH, FIGHTS CANCER ON MULTIPLE LEVELS
Cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum) is a spice found in the form of a small pod with black
seeds inside. The spice has an intensely sweet and savory taste. Both the seeds and the pod
have a rich aroma and are often used in desserts, hot and spicy dishes, as well as in aromatic
beverages and teas. It is regarded as the queen of spices and is one of the most expensive
spices, ranking third, the first and second being saffron and vanilla, respectively.
The cultivation of cardamom originated in India, Nepal, and Bhutan. In India, cardamom
was traditionally considered as an herb and was one of the ingredients in Ayurveda (the
ancient Indian science of medicine and lifestyle). It is also used in traditional Chinese medicine.
It was believed to be a remedy for teeth and gum infections, throat problems, congestion
of the lungs, pulmonary tuberculosis, inflammation of the eyelids, gastrointestinal disorders,
disintegrating kidneys, and gallbladder stones, and was also used as an antidote for poisons
and venoms. According to the USDA National Nutrient Database
for Standard Reference, cardamom is a rich source of vitamins and minerals such as potassium,
calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, and vitamin C. It contains carbohydrates, protein, dietary
fiber, and has no cholesterol. Other nutrients include pyridoxine, iron, sodium, zinc, and
B vitamins like thiamin, niacin, riboflavin, and vitamin B6.
Protects the liver and heart from free radicals Animal studies confirmed that black cardamom
increased antioxidant activity in the liver and heart, indicating that this spice is likely
to reduce free radical damage to these vital organs.
Prevents Colorectal Cancer Cancer, particularly colorectal cancer, is
one of the leading causes of death around the world. The rising cost of conventional
cancer therapy and the subsequent side effects have encouraged researchers to look for alternatives
that are sustainable. A study conducted by Dr. Sengupta et al. published in the Asian
Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention (2007) have shown that dietary cardamom had a positive
result in counteracting colorectal cancer to an extent of 48%.
Protects Heart Health Studies conducted at the Department of Pharmacology
and Pharmaceuticals at the College of Pharmacy of King Saud University, Saudi Arabia showed
that cardamom administration for cardiovascular conditions resulted in a lower heartbeat or
controlled rhythm, and control of hypertension. The micronutrients found in it can counteract
the surge of lipids in the body. In experiments conducted at the Pharmacology and Toxicology
Division at Hindustan Antibiotics in Pune, India by Dhuley, the hepatic and cardiac antioxidant
enzymes from cardamom were administered to mice, which were fed a high-fat diet. The
antioxidant enzymes had an influence on the cholesterol levels and helped in significantly
controlling them. Anti-depressant
Cardamom is also believed to possess anti-depressant properties. Its essential oil is one of the
major oils used in aromatherapy. It can be used not only for depression but also as a
cure for various other diseases ranging from stomach disorders to pulmonary diseases.
Prevents Gastrointestinal Diseases Cardamom has been traditionally used in Ayurveda,
Chinese medicine and the Unani system as a remedy for digestive problems. The methanolic
extract from cardamom is the component that helps in controlling gastrointestinal disorders
such as acidity, flatulence, and stomach cramps. A study conducted by Dr. Jamal Khan et al.
at the Department of Chemistry, Jamia Hamdard, in New Delhi, India has concluded that the
extracted volatile oils from cardamom have shown positive effects on gastrointestinal
disorders. Antimicrobial Properties
For many millennia, cardamom was thought to possess infection-fighting properties. For
modern science, it means that cardamom contains antimicrobial properties. This theory was
tested at the Van Yüzüncü Yil University by Ağ Aoğlu et al. Experiments were conducted
on its volatile extracts. It was observed that the oils from cardamom were able to inhibit
the growth and spread of some of the very dangerous microbes that regularly cause food
poisoning. Anti-spasmodic & Anti-inflammatory Properties
According to Ayurveda, cardamom is good for muscle and joint pain. Muscle spasms are often
reported by older people. A sudden contraction of the muscles causes these spasms. When the
muscles contract, it can result in a sudden emergence of pain. Researchers from Saudi
Arabia performed an animal-based experiment and concluded that cardamom can be used as
a controlling measure for muscle spasms. Recent experimental evidence suggests that cardamom
possesses anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic properties as well.
Dental Care Cardamom has been used in Ayurveda and traditional
Chinese medicine for dealing with dental problems for many centuries. After the invention of
antibiotics, it was found that these antibiotics produced mixed results, as well as side effects.
Some side effects included the inhibition of friendly probiotic bacteria thriving in
the intestines. However, the use of spices, on the other hand, is ideal because they inhibit
only infectious microbes, not the probiotic bacteria. A study conducted by Isao Kubo,
Masaki Himejima, and Hisae Muroi at the Division of Entomology and Parasitology at the University
of California verified the presence of antimicrobial properties in cardamom.
Anti-asthmatic Property Cardamom can also be used as a remedy for
asthma and other respiratory issues. One study has shown that the crude extracts from cardamom
were effective enough in opening up constricted windpipes in lab animals. They were also effective
in causing relaxation in the tracheal tissues. This preliminary study has been positive and
warrants further investigation. Detoxifies the Body
The metabolic processes in our body release toxins and free radicals that have to be nullified
and flushed out to remain healthy. Otherwise, these accumulated toxins can cause several
diseases, including cancer and premature aging. Cardamom is known to act as a detoxifying
agent. The essential oils and biochemicals present in cardamom provide detoxifying effects.
A study conducted by Das et al. showed that cardamom was effective against cancer cells.
Improves Blood Circulation In traditional therapies like aromatherapy,
cardamom has been used to cure symptoms of asthma and bronchitis by improving blood circulation
to the lungs. The essential oil extracted from cardamom has been tested in groups of
individuals with stress and it was found that cardamom is effective in promoting blood circulation
in the body. The research was undertaken at the Nitte University in Mangalore, India.
Treats Nausea, Sore Throats, & Vomiting Traditionally, cardamom has been used as a
remedy for nausea. Cardamom is an effective tonic and stimulant and is also good for calming
the sensations of nausea and vomiting. It acts as a good remedy for sore throats too.
Cardamom and cinnamon can both be boiled in water and gargled every morning to control
painful sore throats. HOW TO USE CARDAMOM
Cardamom is highly versatile in terms of how you can take it. Some people like to add it
to their coffee or tea, others use it to spice up their meals or just take the seeds throughout
the day to keep their breath fresh. If you plan to use a cardamom extract instead
of the powder or dried seeds, follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer and never exceed
the recommended dosage. How To Make Cardamom Tea
The active components of cardamom seeds help flush out toxic wastes circulating in your
bloodstream. Drinking cardamom tea regularly helps eliminate free radicals, pathogens,
infections and heavy metal ions from your body.
Due to its mild diuretic properties, it is also helpful in reducing bloating and water
retention in your body. Drinking this tea around the "time of the month" helps reduce
PMS symptoms. Ingredients:
5-6 green cardamom pods crushed with a mortar and pestle (or use ½ teaspoon of cardamom
seeds powder) 2-3 slices of ginger root, crushed (or use
½ teaspoon of ginger powder) 1 small cinnamon stick
3 cups of water Method:
Put all the ingredients into a stainless steel pot with 3 cups of water.
Bring the contents to a boil, then simmer for about 3 minutes.
Turn off heat. Strain the tea into your teapot or teacups and discard the spices.
Let cool to just warm, add raw honey as desired for taste.

Allergic reactions to plants of the Zingiberaceae family (ginger, turmeric)
There are no studies on the matter of cardamom's safety during pregnancy and lactation, so
those are two relative contraindications. Cardamom is a blood thinner—it increases
the blood effectiveness in dissolving clots. Now, while this is good for heart's health,
it may be dangerous for those people who are already taking anti-platelet and anticoagulant
medications. There were several reports indicating that
cardamom may increase the risk of bleeding when taken along with other prescription blood
thinners like warfarin. There are no available studies on the matter
of cardamom toxicity, so the spice is considered to be fairly safe to take.
Most human studies featured a daily dose of up to 3 grams of powdered cardamom with no
significant side effects. Judging by common dosages in different studies, here are some
fairly safe amounts to take per day: Powdered seeds: 15-30 grains (1.5-3 grams)
Tincture: one teaspoon Fluid extract: up to 30 drops
Other Uses and Benefits Aphrodisiac Properties
Since cardamom gives out a sweet flavor, it was traditionally believed to possess aphrodisiac
properties. [15] Not only is cardamom regarded as an aphrodisiac, but it is also believed
to possess the cure for impotence and premature ejaculation.
Treating Urinary Disorders In Ayurveda, cardamom has been used as a remedy
for urinary tract diseases and infections such as cystitis, nephritis, and gonorrhea.
Hiccups Hiccups can be very annoying, especially for
children. There are several remedies prescribed in folk medicine and one of the most popular
among them is startling a person who is hiccupping. This may or may not work most of the time.
However, cardamom is another very effective remedy. [16] Take a few pods of the spice
and boil them in water. By drinking this water, one can get rid of hiccups.
Breath Freshener Cardamom pods and seeds can be chewed as a
breath freshener. The flavors and aroma found in this spice are due to the presence of its
essential oil. It is no wonder that the essential oil of cardamom is being used as a popular

This is a show where you get to ask a house cleaning question,
and I get to help you find an answer.

you can check that you are hiring, and then there's a place for you to write a description
about the person you are looking to hire.
A person who wants a job at a cleaning company can do a search for their area, find a cleaning
company, and look for the little boxes that say that you're hiring, and then do research
on that company and say, "Hey, can I come work for your company?"
It's an awesome way for somebody to pick up a cleaning associate on your local area.
All right, so on to today's show, which is from Janice Weaver from Ottawa, Canada.

It's Janice Weaver in Ottawa, Canada.
I have a question regarding whether to take on cleaning technicians as employees versus
independent cleaning associates.
There's obviously a lot less paper work involved if you take them on as an associate, and if
it doesn't work out, you just basically don't give them any more projects; however, with
having an employee, there are a lot of things to fill out here in Canada, it's CPP, it's
EI, and my biggest concern is that once a person passes the three-month probationary
period, it's a lot more difficult to have them not working for you anymore.
They can often go and file a grievance to some sort of an association.
Anyway, just would like your opinion on which you think is the better option.
Angela Brown: All right, Janice, that is a great question.
Should you hire cleaning technicians that are employees versus independent cleaning associates.
Now, my suggestion would be that you're going to hire both.
This goes back to the question, do you work on your business or in your business?
There is a time when you are the business, you are in the business, you are the cleaning
technician, and then as your business expands and you start to outsource other things, the
key word here is outsource, so as you expand your business, you're going to outsource.
Now, there are pros and cons with hiring a cleaning associate versus a cleaning employee.
A cleaning associate or an independent contractor is someone that runs their own cleaning business,
and you are one of their clients.
If you are one of their clients, you have to run their business their way.
You do not get to articulate, "Oh, you've got to wear my company uniform, and you have
to be here at a certain time," and you know all the rules.
There are a whole bunch of rules and regulations that go with an employee versus an independent
contractor.
If you're going to hire a cleaning associate from the outside, you are outsourcing some
of your cleaning, at which point you're acting almost as a franchisor so that you are giving
them some business and you are making a small percentage of what they earn versus where
you have a company and you are in charge of the bidding and the contacts and all these things.
Then you just send this person on the job, and they report back to you at the end of
the day, and you give them a payroll, and you take out their taxes.
With the independent contractor, you pay them.
They send you an invoice, and you give them the payment.
Then they pay their own taxes and all those other things.
You are acting as just kind of a franchisor to your independent contractors or your cleaning
associates.
There are pros and cons.
As your business grows, you're going to use lots of different avenues for outsourcing.
The time may come when you hire a virtual assistant, which is not what we're talking
about at all, but it is somebody who helps you in your business, and they may not even
live in the same country as you, and so you outsource it to a virtual assistant who is
somewhere else, and they might answer your phones, they might do your social media, they
might do other things, so you have that.
Then you may say, "Well, there are certain elements of my business that do not cater
to an employee," and you're right.
There's a lot of paper work with having an employee, and there's a lot of management
that goes along with having an employee.
Your job as the boss is to make sure that your employees show up every day and that
they show up with a spectacular attitude and that they look like they're part of your brand
and that their cleaning supplies are up to par and in meticulous condition.
Yes, they can file a grievance.
You have to keep all your records employee on file.
You have to have regular staff meetings.
You got to have powwow meetings where you encourage them when they're in a slump.
You get to be the bearer of bad news when a customer calls and says, "This is not up
to par," and you have to go back and clean it again because of your satisfaction guarantee.
There are a lot of other things with having employees.
Now, it benefits you if you are a great, big business and you have a fleet of cars and
you have everybody in uniforms and you dispatch people and you have a system and you're using
a program like ZenMaid, for example, where you dispatch all of your cleaners and they
all have work orders and they all go out and they do the business for the day.
An independent contractor, on the other hand, is going to, I don't want to use the term
loosey-goosey, but they're on their own schedule, so you cannot tell them, "I need you there
at 9:00 in the morning."
You can say, "The customer expects us there at 9:00 in the morning, and we've given them
a window," but if they show at 10:00, there's nothing you can do about that.
That's on them.
You don't have as much control.
Now, you don't get to tell them what kind of a uniform to wear either.
You can say, "These are our company colors."
No one can brand company colors.
If they want to show up looking like the company, they're welcome to wear that same color, but
you cannot dictate that.
You cannot dictate that, you cannot give them company shirts.
They cannot ... They're not part of your company, and so they can wear whatever they want, which
then you lose control.
If you're building a brand out in the market place, when somebody sees a car that's ratty,
that's not clean, because you have no control over it, they show up wearing sweat clothes
like sweat pants and a tank top or something, you have no control over it.
There are elements of that part of the business that you do not get to control, so you may
want to split up your business in a variety of different ways.
You may say, "All of our commercial cleaning that happens after midnight, it's going to
independent contractors, and we don't care what they wear.
We just care that they show up during the night, that they do their job, and in the
morning, when the office is open, the businesses are clean.
That's fine.
We're not regulating that."
But if you are inside someone's home, and you're in a neighborhood, and you have two
or three people working together, you're going to want those to be employees.
You're going to want them to be part of your company brand.
There's also another element of the business that is booming right now, and that's the
VRBO, vacation rental by owner and the Airbnb industry where people are renting out rooms
of their houses as their kids grow up and go off to college for guests coming in from
out of town, and they need to turn those rooms every single day.
For a turnover service, you may hire an independent contractor where you say, "Listen, I know
you're a mom and you have kids of your own that go to school from 8:00 in the morning
until 2:00," and so during that window of 10:30 to 3:00 where the customers are checking
out and new customers are checking in at these Airbnb's, you may want to dispatch an independent
contractor to just take that job.
They don't have the full schedule to give you their regular employee might have.
There are pros and cons, and my suggestion would be look at all the different elements
and say, "Are we going to focus on the Airbnb industry?
Are we going to focus on residential cleaning?
Are we going to focus on commercial cleaning?" and then figure out who is going to be the
best fit for those different areas.
You may actually have three facets of your business, and you may have three different
types of people that you hire as well as hiring virtual assistants that will do your search
engine optimization and your websites and all these other things.
You may end up outsourcing elements of your business as you build your empire.
You're going to have a variety of different team members.
Some of them will be part-time.
Some of them will be full-time.
Some of them will be independent contractors.
Some people may be employees.
It really depends on what facet you're building at the time, but my suggestion to you would
be open to all of the possibilities because at any moment, you may say, "Hey, we're opening
a whole new leg of our business, and we don't have enough work for full-time employees right
now, but right now, we're going to hire," like you say, "independent cleaning associates
that we will hire for the job.
We will give them a trial run and see how they work out, and if they work out great,
we will continue service with them."
There may come a time when somebody wants to go full-time with your company, and they
switch, and they become an employee.
If that's the case, of course, you'll change all the paper work, and you'll switch them
from an independent contractor to an employee, providing they don't have other business and
they're not still running other business outside your business because if they are an independent
contractor, they must have other business besides you.
Like I say, there are rules and regulations.
It really depends on what you're trying to do in your business, but if your business
is growing, be open to all of the possibilities because there are a whole bunch of different
ways that you can spin this and in a lucrative way that blesses your business as you bless
the lives of the customers that you serve.

Thursday morning nearly six hundred thousand students mostly high school
seniors began their college entrance exam at 1190 test sites nationwide my
son told me this morning that he would just relax and do his best he has been
putting in his best effort so far I hope he'll do his best on the exam after
years of hard work the exams consists of Korean language mathematics English
Korean history and other subjects students can choose to take either
social science or Natural Science to the exams are considered one of the
important tests in students lives and they often spend years studying for
them the results will determine which universities they will be going to next
year many Koreans believe a college shapes a students future so many study
hard to get into prestigious schools on the day of the Suman test the whole
country supports test takers extra public transportation is put on during
morning rush hours which are extended by two hours from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.
people begin their work an hour later to reduce morning traffic jams for the
students and the police are on standby to give free rice for any students who
need them the country stock markets will open and close an hour later traffic is
controlled near the test sites and flights are put on hold in the afternoon
for about 30 minutes during the English listening comprehension section to
minimize disturbance it is an annual tradition for groups of juniors to
gather around at the test sites early in the morning to support the seniors on
their big day placing hand out chocolates and wish
them good luck I came early this morning to cheer for our seniors so that they
can do their best for all their hard work over the last three years

6,000 workers on year out of companies that do business in a single industry on
top was Samsung Electronics with an on-year jump of roughly 3,000 workers
CEO scores surveyed around 300 companies their total number of employees was up
nearly 10,000 from a year earlier
