hello everyone this is the Lego creator modular sweet surprises set it's a
three-in-one so there are three official build options you can only build one of
those options at a time using the parts included in a single set and this option
here to kick things off is the food corner cafe hey you call it and it looks
great this looks like something that could have been a primary build in a
slightly smaller and cheaper set it's it's displayed well I think the overall
shape of it makes sense I could see this in many different contexts from being
just along the side of a road to being a stall at some sort of a theme park you
know a lot of different ways that you can use this I'll show you the three
figures up more closely in a minute it's even has a nice little area outside for
eating they've got a couple of stools style chairs there and a table I've got
a place where you can come up and place your order and a separate place where
you can actually do your payment the little register here is able to turn
around interestingly so I'm assuming that that would be like something where
you input your PIN if you're doing a debit card transaction you see some
cupcakes lined up along the back I'm not sure what the computer screen is at the
back what that's for as opposed to what this is for what the difference is there
that just adds a little little detail there nice small sign here nice small
sign up here I can't really get any drinks from this contrary to what the
sign on top shows there's employee entrance over on the side here with the
door that can open up and also you can get access to the entire thing for
yourself to get in there and put figures inside by just removing the entire roof
that's very simple and easy and that lets you also see some of the additional
detail inside including a I think this is supposed to represent
my fridge over here you could also maybe think of it as an oven maybe but there's
a pie inside not sure what flavor that would be or
what style that would have but I'm sure it's delicious then over here is
something that's supposed to be more oven and oven over there looks like it
could represent a microwave with the dark band on one side but that's pretty
much it for this build here we can edit from the back there's nothing additional
to see there just one window got a small plant off to the side a little bit plain
from the back then go ahead and put that rooftop back on but it does its job you
know this is a decent build and remember this is just an alternate built I
believe it's the smallest one of the three here's a closer look at those
three figures two children and one adult and I think there is nothing new or
special here in particular but the figures look just fine for a creator set
I like the hair piece on the left especially and that face it's very happy
and I like the torso of the kid on the right and it has that classic classic
space theme throwback I think that the Lego world you know the LEGO universe
needs more bakers who don't have large fluffy mustaches though I feel like
there's a little bit of an excess maybe even a little bit of discrimination in
favor of large bushy mustaches for Lego Baker's bakers and butchers I think but
to alternate faces are included here so that's good taking a step up in size and
complexity this is the Poole home so I'm assuming this would be a vacation
getaway home or something looks a little Mediterranean to me or a Mediterranean
inspired or might be like a 1970s house of some sort but this is very different
because it has no focus on food like the other two builds have and kind of the
name of the the whole set just gives it its focus however you could see this as
being a vacation home home that is either owned or leased by the baker in
the set because there is out on the pool just lounging on a float so yeah it
could just be his you know he's still in full uniform this
is interesting architecture here doesn't look particularly safe but a way to get
up to sort of a diving board I guess is what that or diving platform is what
that represents there got some stairs to get down nice and safely and easily into
that side of the pool so that works well I will take off the roof here but before
I do let me show you what's up here you got a banister going around well well
umbrella there for shade because there is no no roof up here you know nothing
to protect you from the Sun it looks like I moved this brick out of the way
when I placed that figure there but there's a bed completely open air and
they have a small mini freezer next to the bed so this is definitely for
someone who really appreciates their there frozen popsicles and around the
side this is good they have actual stairs full-size stairs so there is
access for the figures to get up there so frequently Lego does not give any way
for figures to move up kids of course can just use their imagination just
transport kids from one level to another but I really like it when they do have
the opportunity to include you know full access see just pose a figure who's
walking up now of course with these smaller figures you can't really make it
look like they're walking but at the very least you can just do this which is
just good play in my opinion just it's so simple but it works and then oh yeah
I got this nice curved glass window on one side and they had those pieces as
might as well use them now unfortunately this bill does not give you an easily
removable roof you can pull all this stuff off but it's not intended to be
done that way they have they don't have be the tiles and such too to give you
the easy access so getting in there requires a little bit of disassembly or
very small and DT fingers but there's a decent amount of detail let me give you
a little bit of supplemental light to see in there a little bit better so
there are a couple of like Ottomans for for just seating with a little
checkerboard pattern on them that's good and then back there in the back is a
fireplace which for its size looks pretty good
we have a little simulated piece of wood and it's on fire then that technique
works pretty well much better than I expected and then this here is intended
to be a broom you know it can be handled by a figure but you could also use it
for cleaning out the pool I'm assuming if you want uses that relatively new
piece here for the 1 by 2 plate that is rounded and has the hollow studs on it
and that does it for this build okay so that brings us to the highlight the
actual pastry shop the actual sweets shop which uses all of the pieces
officially included in the set and this looks good to me looks very very nice
very complete has a nice variety of shape and color without being too out
there it still looks like something that is believable enough they have a fair
amount of detail on the outside and a fair amount of detail on the inside as
well so this is a very balanced build in my opinion once again they've done
something nice with signage up there using those food pieces and also
creating kind of a cupcake up there just the extra large larger than life-size
version up top I even like this side over here which is not supposed to be
like the the the best-looking side and best finished side but with the use of
those little scroll detailed corners and I mean you can see this is being like a
pickup counter if you want out French they've got that nice stack almost
looked like barber poles there if you looked at this without enough context it
would look like it was a barber shop but you know it just gives some color you
can imagine those representing candy cane material I really like this display
window here nice and round and you can actually rotate the display inside of
there that whole thing is able to spin around they've got the same treats on
the upper tier as they do down below just got them rotated 180 degrees away
from each other but that's nice enough and right next to that it kind of
integrated into the same wall as the building is an ATM
machine a simple one but that works and then an oversized gumball machine or a
gumball dispenser or candy dispenser dispenser which honestly is is not bad
in terms of its size it is oversized yes but it's very difficult to make things
using official Lego pieces that are at that scale and I think they did a pretty
good job here no complaints and of course they've used
once again the staircase you can get easy access to the roof seating area and
again there are just two spots to sit right there with a very small table and
a little bit of foliage with just the small planter box off to the side a
little bit of awning to protect you from the weather just a little bit you know
it's not absolutely complete but again to me it just looks good and I also have
these suggestions of lights it kind of looks like to light up the sign and just
imagine this being brightly lit at night or early in the morning depending upon
the hours of the place but you can use your imagination and just having those
little pieces there having actually built them in there lets you know that
they're there and can kind of just enhance that imaginative effect you can
just imagine the the brightness there out to me it just seems like it helps
you even if they don't provide actual light and you can remove the entire top
of this in two sections I'll show you a little bit more about that in a minute
but this lets you easily get your fingers in there to place figures around
in different places and you can even bring these sub assemblies out so I've
got a small freezer here top-loading again with the frozen top schools there
and this is the check out register and they've got a treat right here which is
a separate thing we can be purchased that's supposed to be jelly or Jam upon
on top of it or maybe orange marmalade or something this old-school classic
style of pull handle register and they tried to suggest there even though it
does have buttons on it and a little power to display back here I think again
a representation of a microwave to heat things up or maybe it's supposed to be
just a small convection oven that would that be a little bit better would make a
little bit more sense for heating things up so you can actually put a small treat
in there heat it up and you get access to the display there so I guess it's not
just a display but you can actually make purchases from there all those things
can be pulled out and yeah you know doesn't have a ton of stuff in here but
it's enough while still leaving enough room to pose figures in there as you
like as for these segments here well they can be rearranged in different ways
and they do call this a modular building it's based on not the same set up the 32
by 32 base plate setup of the large modular creator buildings but rather
using the same system that they've had going for the smaller structures for a
while where things are based on an 8x8 grid and oftentimes they go to an 8 by
16 size for structures and then they have these window segment that can be
pulled out and even over here all this fits into that system so you're able to
change things around and change the shape of the place if you want
I have not kind of thought of this in advance of how I'm gonna do it so I
don't know how well this is going to work out but I'm doing it live let's see
let's see if I can make anything that looks halfway decent here I think yeah
that makes sense but the door or to put a door over on on this side maybe I'm
probably would have been better here but just changing the shape of the thing and
here you are a little bit limited what I really want to do instead is see if I
can just put a roof on one side and I want to see if I can connect these I was
hoping that I could connect these hmm that doesn't seem to work out part as
well as I hope because they have this spot here
can place one of those modular items there but I wanted to use this on the
ground level you know let's see I put it over here yeah now we're talking and
this I guess will after all go here and I will just use this piece as the
connector I wanted to make it into a single level place now that does get in
the way but I can just move that kind of master out of the way this now would be
placed back on the other side where it started but that's the idea I wanted to
show you what they let you do with the pieces with just the modules from a
single set it's designed to encourage customization but there aren't really
that many options of things that make sense because like where is this
stairway going now if you don't have a second level so that limits you now to
having a a second level that's set up maybe like so you know just how many
different options can you really make work with this and that's something that
that all of these these sets that use this system have suffered from in my
opinion I can take this off and I've talked about that previously in my
reviews of the other sets that used this system I guess this one works out okay
but I love this idea of having the modules like that I really really like
that idea especially for the many many kids as I mentioned many times who are
not used to changing things not used to customizing their own Lego builds they
build them just as they're originally intended to be built and then leave them
that way a lot of folks like to say hey kids get Lego and they just build a
custom well a lot a lot gets do but a lot don't and this helps to kind of push
the mind in the direction of that being okay to break free from the instructions
and to try something different but with this particular system there
really are our limitations now if you yet multiple of the sets from this
smaller modular system of sets that they do for structures these days let me grab
the the food cafe build not a good not a particularly good option but if you had
another one from this series you would be able to mix and match some of these
some of these modules because they're intended to all work together
unfortunately this build doesn't use any of those modules some of the other sets
in this series have given you the different module this just lets you put
a different roof on the top so if you've got two of this set and built in two of
the options at the same time I could put these roof segments over here if I
wanted but then what that's just it can't even fit the stairs onto there so
this doesn't use the modular system and also the house build well that doesn't
use the modular system either so the whole modular thing is very limited here
I almost feel like they're losing some faith in that system because they didn't
use it for the other builds and I can understand that it's a great idea it
doesn't work out so well in practice so if you're already familiar with the
recent Lego creator modular can a smaller modular series of buildings my
apologies if a lot of that lasts information and demonstration was
redundant to use stuff that you already knew but not everybody watching this
particular video has seen all of my videos or is researched on all of the
Lego set so I wanted to be sure to demonstrate what the whole modular thing
is supposed to represent and to share my thoughts about it in general since they
do continue to put out these smaller structure sets with that name or that
that portion of the name there this is one of those cases where I don't feel
there is a bad built out of the three options always the main build that they
put on the front of the package that that uses all the pieces is going to be
the most massive usually the most grandiose and nice looking and
it'll have the most features which totally makes sense of course but this
makes sense to me too and this looks like something that could be proudly
placed into a layout a little lego city or town or something this makes sense to
me - it looks like something that could be proudly displayed in the Lego talents
a little bit classic in its design you know I'm not having the roof or anything
is is it is a thing you know but there are a lot of older LEGO sets that that
kind of follow that pattern and it's fine especially for play I wish that you
could get in here a little bit more easily though I just realized that that
looks like it could be the Mediterranean back there so maybe I was I was I was
kind of on the right track about the setting for this but in terms of value
for this whole set certainly the price to part ratio is right around where you
would expect it to be maybe even a little bit better than kind of the
current benchmark you know for a long time we've said 10 cents for part in the
u.s. is is correct is the right level but you know inflation has continued to
to take its toll on the world and I don't I don't think 10 census is is
necessary anymore I think that 11 is is fine 12 is is okay but it depends on the
size of parts now this set does have some large pieces but it also has a lot
of 1 by 1 plates and modified plate type pieces and as such I don't feel like
there's $40 u.s. worth of stuff here when you actually build even the main
build it does use all of the pieces it does feel a little bit expensive to me
just on volume of stuff but the quality is definitely there and they make up for
a lot of that compared to past $40 range structure sets they make up for a lot of
that with level of detail and accessibility for minifigures and
playability for a minifigures you know there are a lot of things for many
figures to to interact with here so on the whole I feel like this build works
out well and gives respectable value not necessarily for the size but overall
overall true you of the set and the alternate builds
are definitely worthwhile the modular system take it or leave it doesn't seem
to really be that important but at least some of the modules are interchangeable
in sensible ways on this one that that can make sense and and can again help
jump-start creativity and customization so that's enough from me about this set
hope that you've enjoyed this look at it and that I've shown you all the features
and angles and bits of it that you wanted to see I'll be talking to you
again soon in my next video so thanks for watching and I'll catch you later
you
