In Washington,... the Trump administration is reportedly canceling the next joint military

exercise with South Korea, scheduled for August.

This follows a pledge made by President Trump in Singapore earlier this week that he would

stop U.S. war games in the region.

Citing officials from the administration,... multiple U.S. media reports say that the Pentagon

will formally announce the cancellation in a press release on Thursday local time.

South Korea's defense ministry says the two sides are in close coordination on the issue.

The drill in question is the annual Ulchi Freedom Guardian exercise,... a largely computer-simulated

Pres. Moon meets with top diplomats of U.S. and Japan to discuss various ways of cooperation - Duration: 1:11.

Just about an hour ago President Moon Jae-in also met with Taro Kono at the blue House.

They discussed ways to go about negotiations with Pyongyang post-Singapore... through close

cooperation between South Korea and Japan.

Earlier today, U.S. Secretary of State visited the Blue House as well, to personally brief

President Moon on the summit.

According to the presidential office,...

President Moon congratulated the U.S. on a successful summit, calling it (quote) "a great

historic achievement."

Ruling Democratic Party of Korea claims overwhelming victory in local elections - Duration: 3:31.

And on to the local elections held in South Korea on Wednesday.

It was a landslide victory for the ruling Democratic Party of Korea.

Voter turnout was the second highest ever for a local election,... coming in above 60

percent for the first time in more than 20 years.

Kim Min-ji reports.

This year's local elections were a massive win for the ruling Democratic Party of Korea...

and an unmitigated disaster for the main opposition Liberty Korea Party.

Out of 17 posts for mayor and governor,... the ruling party claimed victory in 14.

What's especially significant about these positions is that they are seen as a springboard

to key national leadership positions in the future.

The party dominated the heavily populated areas of Seoul and its neighboring Gyeonggi-do

Province.

Likewise they took seats in the central districts, including Daejeon, on top of the usual liberal

strongholds, such as Jeolla-do Province.

And even in conservative strongholds -- with the exception of two regions,... Ulsan, Busan

and Gyeongsangnam-do Province were taken by the ruling party.

On Jeju Island, an independent candidate was elected.

With that, the ruling party has been given an important boost,... having added five governor

and mayoral seats to the nine it had already.

"Our win is a victory for the people.

We should repay voters who cast their ballots for us.

We will do our best as the ruling party,... take a more humble approach... and thoroughly

deal with pending issues."

Pundits have pointed to the positive developments in regards to North Korea,... saying the uptick

in South-North relations.... and President Moon Jae-in's high approval ratings were favorable

factors for the ruling party in this year's local elections.

And the fact the elections were largely overshadowed by the North Korea-U.S. summit,.. fresh allegations

regarding the candidates themselves,... or even ongoing issues such as an online opinion

rigging scandal or even the faltering economy,... were pushed out of the spotlight.

At the other end of the spectrum, the main opposition party wasn't able to position itself

as a strong alternative.

It still hasn't been able to completely sever its ties to impeached former president Park

Masada (also sunrise) and Ein Gedi Tours from Jerusalem and Tel Aviv - Duration: 6:15.

If you are looking for a day tour from Jerusalem to Masada, the Dead Sea, Ein Gedi, then this

video is for you.

Now I personally love the desert and I recommend sleeping there, but if you're short on time,

or it is summer and it is really really hot, or you just want to stay in Jerusalem, then

taking a day tour from Jerusalem to the highlights of the Judaean Desert is a good idea.

Now there are many companies that offer this tour: it's a very popular tour.

I like to recommend the Abraham tours and I like to do it because of a couple of reasons.

The first reason is that the tour starts here at the Abraham Hostel, and from here they

pick up people from Jaffa Gate if it is needed, and they just go.

Other companies pick up people from their hotel.

Now it might sound great being picked up from your hotel but it takes a lot of time if the

tour needs to pick up people from seven different hotels, it's like forty, fifty minutes before

you even leave Jerusalem.

And anyway on this day there is a lot of time on the road.

The second reason is that their tour is cheaper.

It's about thirty dollars cheaper than most tours.

One reason for it is that it is with no guide, it is a self-guided tour.

You can download the app, I will leave the link down here below, and in the app you have

great information about the places.

I know it because I wrote it.

The third reason, the most important reason, is that the drivers are great.

Many of them are guides themselves so they do explain a little bit about the sites; they

know good English.

And the most important thing: they care and, believe me, this is the most important thing.

So, let's get going.

The ride to Masada takes about an hour and a half and it is an amazing ride.

Once you leave the city the desert starts pretty much immediately and you descend from

Jerusalem, which is 800m high, to the area of the Dead Sea, which is the lowest place

on Earth, 400m below sea level.

The first site is Masada.

The entrance costs 29 shekels or 70 if you use the cable car both ways.

Either way you need to bring a hat and a bottle of water as it can be really hot.

In Masada there are two stories.

The first story is the story of King Herod that used this place to build two palaces,

a spa, a swimming pool.

And the story of the rebels that 70 years later took over this place, and this was the

last stronghold in the Jewish-Roman War, or as we say in Hebrew, the Great Revolt.

So, many of the places in Masada have two layers of stories, like this bathhouse.

King Herod built here in the middle of the desert a spa with a hot and cold sauna, wet

and dry.

And what did the rebels do with it?

They built here a mikvah, which is a ritual bath.

To the spa you go to enjoy yourself, to the mikvah you go to purify yourself.

From Masada it's about fifteen minutes' drive to here, to Ein Gedi.

Now the entrance to the national park costs 29 shekels and in Masada the story is very

very dramatic but also very very short.

Here in Ein Gedi, because it is an oasis, there are two springs here, people lived here

for thousands of years.

So there is the human history here, and the flora and fauna, and I've written about it

in the app: you get to see here ibex and rock hyrax.

From Ein Gedi it's about half an hour ride then we get to the beach of the Dead Sea.

Now we came to Kalia Beach, which is a great beach that has also the famous Dead Sea mud.

Now it is end of January, 24 degrees, and we have here an hour and a half to float in

the Dead Sea.

I just love the Dead Sea: you float, it is an amazing experience.

This tour has two versions: this tour, the regular one, and the sunrise tour that starts

either in Tel Aviv or Jerusalem, between 2 to 4 am, depending on the season, and then

you get to Masada very early, climb the Snake Path, and get to see the sunrise from the

top of Masada.

4 pm we are back in Jerusalem, back to the Abraham Hostel.

[VINCENT]: Yes. It actually started with this octatonic scale.

[STIJN]: *makes caveman sound*

[VINCENT]: Then I started combining it with powerchords.

That would sound something like this:

But that's a bit dark and "metal".

But...

We combined that with Rock-'n-Roll

*plays Rock-'n-Roll riff*

That kinda stuff.

And then you end up with somethin like this:

*plays Bending Bricks-riff*

[GUY]: So everytime you let go of your little finger,

you go on to the next chord...

[VINCENT]: Yeah.

[GUY]: ...which in turn makes you let go of the whole Rock-'n-Roll thing. [VINCENT]: Yeah.

[GUY]: But still that same movement.

[VINCENT]: The same movement, indeed.

Again and again and again.

[STIJN]: And harmonically it gets really weird.

[VINCENT]: Indeed, indeed.

[DAVID]: "Ever-morphing".

With a sort of tongue-in-cheek macho-feel.

That's part of the fun.

[STIJN]: In a really short amount of time.

because it's loud and fast the whole time.

At one point we decided to turn it in some sort of 1:50 adrenaline-injection.

One that turns on and doesn't turn off anymore.

Just on and on and on, and then just immediately stops.

And only then you can start processing what just transpired.

[SIEP]: What's in the song. Tango flavours.

[GUY]: South American music.

[STIJN]: That's right. There's a latin-beat in there somewhere.

[GUY]: Yes, i'm a big fan of that.

It's really hard to accompish something like that in a rockband,

but in the bridge-part of 'Bending Bricks' there's some Cumbia.

[DAVID]: I also think that in this particular case a half-time beat still would sound to much like a beat.

Asian Elephants are endangered species that has its population decreasing at a gradual rate.

If elephants start dying like this, the situation will be much worse and sad than we can ever imagine.

As far as I'm concerned, "Hakka Patas" in Sri Lanka is used to kill wild boars.

So it has a probability for an elephant to eat these traps.

When these elephants get injured, We cannot fix their jaws or injuries.

We can only give them painkillers and life support.

At this moment we would like to ask kindly from everyone in such village areas

not to use such shameful methods and traps like "Hakka Patas" to kill any animal.

We would like to ask everyone to help us catch these culprits who use such methods to hunt down and target innocent animals on the island.

So we can bring them to justice and punish them for the wrongdoings.

This elephant we treated today was a "Hakka patas" victim,

and my fellow teammates rarely escaped a deadly chase by the giant elephant.

Gimp 2.10.2 How to Use The Spherize Filter And How To Make a Shining Glass Ball - Duration: 12:51.

In this Gimp Workshop we are going to create a glass ball with a spherize effect.

The download link for the images is in the video description.

When we have opened our image with the book, we will first make a copy.

Go to the duplicate button at the bottom of the layers panel and click on it.

Now we right click on the top layer and hit add alpha channel.

This layer now can have transparency.

Make sure that all the settings of Gimp are set to default.

Go to the toolbox and activate the ellipse select tool.

Check the option fixed, so the aspect ratio stays 1:1.

Now we can make an exact circle.

We can move the handles and or the corners to make corrections.

When we click and hold inside the selection, we can move the whole selection.

Place it in the middle of the book, more or less like so.

Go to filters in the menu bar, click distort and then spherize.

Because we have the option use selection as input, only the ball gets the effect.

Change the angle to about 100 to make the effect a bit stronger.

Click okay.

Then we go to select and hit invert, so the background and not the ball is selected.

Click on edit and on clear to remove the background.

Back to select and invert, to select the glass ball again.

We can click the visibility of the bottom layer off and on,

to see the transparency in the top layer.

Make sure that the top layer is still active.

Click on the new layer button.

Name it inner shadow.

The fill type must be transparency.

Hit okay.

Click on the gradient tool in the toolbox.

We choose the gradient FG to transparency.

The gradient should go from transparency to black.

If not, we can click on the reverse button, to change this.

We make the shape radial.

Now we click and draw a line, from the left top to the right bottom

of the glass ball, more or less like so.

Move the midpoint so we get a hard gradient, like so.

Then hit enter to apply.

Make the opacity of this layer about 85.

Click again on the new layer icon and name this layer lightglow.

Then hit okay.

Now we activate the paintbrush.

Press the X key to swap the foreground/background colors, so white is our foreground color.

Choose brush untitled # 1.

Make the size about 1200.

We can click and drag the upwards pointing arrow outside the framework if we want.

Now click one time, just left and above the center of the ball.

Make the opacity of this layer about 60.

Again, make a new layer.

Name it spot, and click okay.

Select brush block 02, make its size about 300.

We change the angle to minus 50.

Now we can click a glowing spot in the top left, like so.

Make a new layer again, and name this one sparkle.

Click okay.

Choose brush untitled # 2.

Make the size of this one about 200.

Then we click on the edit tab.

Here we make the radius about 100, and the spikes 13.

The hardness should be about 25 and the aspect ratio 3.

Click on select and then on none, to deselect the circle selection

and click one time in the top left of the glass ball.

Then make the size about 100 and click one time in the right bottom of the ball.

Now we click on the configure tab and hit close tab.

Then click on the layers tab, to bring the layers up front.

Make a new layer and name it edge light.

Then hit okay.

Activate the paths tool in the toolbox.

We can zoom in and or out by pressing the Ctrl key and rolling the mouse wheel.

Click three points, like shown in the video.

Then hover with the cursor over the first point,

press and hold the Ctrl key and when we see the chain icon,

we click to close the path.

Now check the option edit.

Click and drag in the middle of each line and pull it outwards, like so.

When this is done we can click on the button selection from path, to make the selection.

Click and drag the white of the foreground color into the image.

Click on select and then on none, to deselect the selection.

Then we go to filters, blur and hit gaussian blur.

The path disappears, but the selection stays intact.

Make the blur 5, and click okay.

Now we reduce the opacity of this layer to 40 or so.

Click on the duplicate button.

Then click on the flip tool and also in the image, to flip this layer horizontally.

Check the option vertical and click again in the image.

Activate the move tool, check the option move the active layer

and move the layer, like so.

Reduce the opacity of this layer even a bit more to say 20.

Again, make a new layer and now we name it outside shadow.

Click okay.

Right click on the book copy layer and hit alpha to selection,

so we select everything that is not transparent.

Then click on the outside shadow layer.

The circle selection of the ball is now applied to this layer.

Drag and drop the black of the background color into the selection.

Now we activate the unified transform tool and we make the image opacity about 50.

Then we click in the image.

Make the layer invisible.

Now we can change the perspective, by grabbing the diamond in the square.

When we click and drag outside the framework, we can rotate the shadow

and when we click and drag inside the framework, we can move the shadow.

With the side handles we can scale it.

When we feel that it looks good, we click on transform.

Click the anchor icon, to apply the floating layer to the outer shadow layer.

Make this layer visible and reduce the opacity to about 60.

Once more, we click on the new layer icon.

This time we name it light in shadow.

Click okay.

Make the paintbrush active, we reduce the opacity to about 30,

and choose brush Block 02 again.

We make the size more or less 800, and we change the angle to minus 10.

The hardness should be 50 or so.

Then we click ones or twice in the shadow, like so.

Right click on the top layer and hit merge down.

Now we activate the eraser tool.

For this tool we take brush hardness 75, and we make its size about 70.

Zoom in to the shadow of the glass ball and carefully erase

everything that falls outside the boundary of the book.

Go to view, zoom and fit image in window.

Time now to bring in the butterflys.

Go to file, open and open the image of the butterflys.

Click on the free select tool and make a selection around three butterflys, like so.

Click the last point over the first point and then double click in the selection.

Now we go to edit and hit copy.

Click on the tab of the book image.

Back to edit and click on paste.

Hit the new layer icon to change this floating layer into an actual layer.

Double click on the name and rename it three butterflys.

Press enter.

Activate the move tool and move the butterflys in a way that we get a nice composition.

Click and drag this butterfly layer downwards, to just above the book copy layer.

Make the top layer active.

Click on the tab of the image with the butterflys and make the free select tool active again.

Go to select and hit none.

Select another butterfly.

Back to edit and copy, hit the tab of the image with the glass ball.

Again to edit and now to paste.

Click on the new layer icon.

Double click on the name and rename it butterfly.

Press enter.

Click on the move tool and reposition this butterfly.

Then we make a duplicate and rename it butterfly shadow.

Right click on the layer and hit alpha to selection.

Click and drag the black of the foreground/background colors into the image.

Go to select and click none.

Click the flip tool active, check the option horizontal and click in the image.

Activate the unified transform tool.

Then we can click in the image and change the shadow so it looks natural.

Again, use the Ctrl key in combination with the mouse wheel to zoom in or out.

Then we click on the transform button.

Move this layer one place down in the layers stack and reduce its opacity to about 50.

Go to view again, click zoom and fit image in window.

And there it is, a shining glass ball.
