We're on the biggest, most ambitious tour of our lives.

We're playing Madison Square Garden on Wednesday.

Because here's a photo I have of you guys in Paris.

Explain to me what happens. You just go and you go,

-I mean, we had a day off at the hotel, and I thought,

let's just go sing a couple of songs over at the Louvre.

And it turned into this -- you know, just a few friends.

-Like a flash mob. Look at this.

I mean, that's amazing.

I mean, that's -- and then...

-Yeah, it was incredible.

And then the military came and shut us down

and we apologized. [ Laughter ]

-Is that right? -Oh, yeah.

-That's insane. But you do stuff like this,

but then -- explain to me this,

because why would you ever do this?

You're a climber, you told me? -Yeah, yeah, yeah.

-Now what is it -- -I mean, we travel the world.

Right now we've been touring in Europe,

and we just started in America.

We had our ninth show in Philadelphia last night.

We're at MSG Wednesday and then we travel west.

-How was that, by the way? -Incredible, yeah.

-Because last time you were here, you got in the car

with -- was it A$AP Rocky picked you up?

-Yeah, yeah. -And you started driving --

This is real. -Yeah.

-You drove across America. -Yeah, yeah, yeah.

I hitchhiked and I took some buses, I took the Greyhound.

I traveled across the country. -How was it?

-It was incredible. It was incredible.

Heard the most amazing stories.

Met just beautiful people.

And, you know, what really struck me was that

amidst all of the chaos and conflict in the world,

you know, I found a lot of unity.

I found a lot of peace and happiness.

I found people that really agree on a lot.

And it was a beautiful thing to get out there in the country

and just to see America at its core.

It was great. -That's fantastic, dude.

But I just don't know what either shirt means,

but that's good, yeah.

I'm growing, I'm growing.

-It's because you're a dad now.

-Exactly, I'm such a dad now, yeah.

But, basically, every one --

every album cover represents different times?

-They're different lists. Yeah, they're different lists.

They're kind of like a -- it's kind of like a time capsule.

Individually some of the lists are funny,

they're provocative, they're crazy.

But if you put them together, they give you a sense of

the culture that we're living in,

the times that we're living in.

And the album is called "America."

So, rather than having an image, we thought that the lists

would help represent America in a much better way.

Yeah. -I think it's great.

I love it. Well, congrats.

The first two songs that came up went to number one.

-Yeah.

-On alternative radio. -Yeah, yeah.

-That's major. -Thank you so much.

-Did you get excited when you see that?

[ Cheers and applause ]

Number-one song. -Absolutely.

-And the video for "Rescue Me" is fantastic.

-I think today I looked at it.

It was like, you just released it,

and it's already like 12 million hits on YouTube.

-Yeah. -It's amazing.

-It's really connecting with people. It's a song.

And it just feels like everyone is just kind of going along

release and just scream.

overcoming those things, and living life to the fullest,

and enjoying all of the potential of life.

-That's beautiful.

-It's connecting and we're really happy about it.

-Yeah. Who directed that?

-A guy named Mark Romanek,

who is just one of the best directors in the world.

Yeah, he's really talented.

-Because normally you direct them, right?

-I have directed them for the past 13 years,

and it's first time I haven't done one.

And it was really great to pass it off to someone

who's such a legend.

This guy has done -- he did like the Johnny cash "Hurt" video.

He did Nine Inch Nails "Closer."

He did the Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson "Scream" video.

This guy is a legend.

And he did us a big favor by doing it.

-I mean, you guys work well together.

You're such a busy guy.

-And speaking of busy, you know, you're constantly working on

different projects, and one thing

you always complain to me about, especially in the summer,

is that you don't have any time to read books.

You don't have any time to unplug and do summer reading.

-No. Not even a minute.

-But then you also told me that's okay,

because you can discern exactly what a book is about

and its full plot just by looking at the cover.

-Pretty accurately, yeah.

-Is this something you've always been able to do?

-Always, since I was a kid. -Okay.

So if I show you a book cover right now,

you can tell me exactly what the book is about.

-Guaranteed, yes. -All right.

This is your last chance to say you're making this up.

-No, no, no. I'm -- -Okay.

Here you go. It's a new segment.

"Fred Judges a Book by its Cover."

This is "Dreams of Falling" by Karen White.

Fred, what is this book about? -That's so easy.

First of all, it's written by Karen White.

So, she wrote it.

She, you know, started it off with just some sketches

and just kind of figuring out what she wanted to do.

And then she putting, you know, pen to paper.

-Is this all gonna be the process of writing a book?

-Yeah, yeah.

-I would think that would be the same for most books.

-Usually, yes, but for this one particularly.

So, she was like, "I wrote this book."

She wanted people to know that she wrote it.

And let's have a look at that cover there again.

-Okay. -Let's see.

-Okay. So, this is great. So, it's "Dreams of Falling."

So, what it is -- it's a story of this woman -- right? --

who -- The only way she could, like,

look at the sky was to just, like, fall on her back, right?

So, the problem is that her house is directly on water.

You know what I mean?

So she kept falling into the water.

She's like, "You know what I'm gonna do?

Can we please build some kind of a short pier

that I can fall back on?"

Am I correct so far?

And then someone, like, threw some milk at her.

They were like, "You'll want some milk

while you're down there."

-Uh-huh.

-And she's like, "No, please don't."

And then it sort of was like a sort of shampoo through her hair.

And she grabbed this eel.

There was, like, a snake/eel in the water.

-That -- I guess that's an eel right there, yeah.

-And that was, like -- -Uh-huh. Yeah.

-But she was really happy about it.

-Looks like a ribbon to me, Fred.

Looks really like --

-That's what's misleading about eels.

And I want everyone to know this.

[ Cheers and applause ]

Yes, they always look like ribbons.

They're not ribbons, guys.

-Oh, this is gonna be your, like --

'Cause you obviously have some

pretty strong feeling about eels.
