Youtube daily Aug 17 2018

Hello everyone. In this video, we'll discuss searching using Google Scholar.

This is Google's more academic side, and it's very useful,

I find, for people who are just beginning to search using scholarly resources,

because it combines a search engine most people are familiar with with all scholarly results.

We have a link to it right on our home page, as you can see here with the little red arrow beside it.

It's just below the one search box in the Special Content links area.

Click on that and you come to Google Scholar's homepage,

but now filtered through the proxy service that we use for our e-resources.

You can see the ezproxy.utica.edu that I've highlighted in the address bar.

This means that now Google Scholar knows that you're affiliated with Utica College and can give you hints

if something comes up in results that we might have access to.

So here's our usual sample search terms, the autism and childhood,

and here's our initial results--quite a lot--

and now you can also see our limiters off to the left there, I've outlined them in a box.

So let's take a closer look at those.

So now Any Time is highlighted,

and our results are including patents and citations.

You can see where I put the little red arrows, and anytime is in orange and

the little tick boxes beside Include Patents and Include Citations are checked. We're going to adjust that,

and now you can see where I've clicked Since 2014 ,since it's highlighted in orange,

and the tick boxes beside Include Patents and Include Citations are no longer checked.

And here's what our new results page looks like.

We've cut our results by quite a bit,

and you can see where, off to the left beside results, sometimes there's additional links and information.

Something might indicate HTML from a certain site or say Check for Full Text.

So let's take a closer look at some of those.

Here by the little red arrow you see Check for Full Text.

Clicking on that will take you through Utica College resources,

because that means that Google Scholar thinks that we might have access to it,

so it's going to try to take you there.

And now I've got a little box beside where there's two possibilities. One's Check for Full Text.

And then there's HTML with aappublications.org.

You can go to either of those.

One of them is an organization's website where they might have the article posted up free there,

but we also might have it available in full-text through our resources.

And then now you see the two little red arrows.

One is HTML from OUP, so that'll take you to Oxford Pub--Oxford's website.

And then there's also something from what looks like the National Institute of Health,

so you can click to go right there.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. We welcome in-person visits,

but you can also contact us via phone at:

(315) 792-3044 for the information desk,

or (315) 792-3041 for the circulation desk.

You can also email us at refere@utica.edu.

Thank you for your time and attention.

The US Is Fracking Away All Of Our Drinkable Water - Duration: 4:12.

Water is considered one of the basic building blocks of life.

When you think about space exploration, what is one of the first things that we look for

when we look at other plants?

We look to see if there's water.

Because if there's water, there's a good chance there could be life.

But back here on earth, in the United States, we're actually running out of water.

And one of the biggest reasons we're running out of water is because of the contamination

being caused by the fracking industry.

According to a major new report from Duke University, the amount of water used in fracking

wells has increased by, originally it was about three to five million gallons per well,

and now it's up to about 30 million gallons per well.

They have increased their water use by 770%, and in the next, I think 12 years, that's

actually expected to increase 50 fold.

So, we're talking about a 50 fold increase in water usage for these fracking wells that's

going to amount to trillions of gallons of water that will be forever lost to humanity

and nature itself.

Trillions of gallons of water just to pull this natural gas out of the ground so that

we can continue our addiction to fossil fuels here in this country.

Because here's the thing, and the Duke study points this out brilliantly, once water is

used for fracking, it is essentially last forever.

Be it through the contaminants that come into the water via the chemical mixture used in

fracking wells, or it gets trapped beneath the shale that they're trying to break up

to get the natural gas out, and therefore, we have no way to get back down there to it.

So yes, this water is gone.

And this is potable, drinkable, wonderful, clean water until it's made either dirty enough

that we can never drink it again by the fracking industry, or they trap it so deep underground

underneath this rock that we can't ever get back to it.

Oh, and it gets worse, because also, according to the report, obviously the burning of more

fossil fuels, including the natural gas that we get out of these fracking wells, it increases

emissions.

And increased emissions increase the severity and intensity of climate change.

As that increases, we get more droughts here in the United States, which means less water.

We are allowing the fossil fuel industry to take something that every single human being,

every creature on this planet needs to live.

We cannot live without this substance.

And yet, we're so addicted to fossil fuels, and our politicians' so addicted to fossil

fuel money that we're willing to let them completely destroy this resource that everything

on this planet has to have just so we can feed that addiction for another year, or another

two years.

Meanwhile, we have perfectly good renewable energy sources ready to go.

We've just stopped investing in them as a country, as a federal government.

We've pulled money out of them.

We're taxing solar panels.

That's one of the first thing Donald Trump stuck his tariffs on, the solar panels being

made in China and shipped over here to the United States.

Other countries are so far ahead of us at this point, that it's almost laughable that

we even have to discuss the fact that we're so far behind and so backwards on the issue

of energy that we're willing to let the fracking industry come in and take all of our drinkable

water just to give us a few more years of fossil fuels, even though there are perfectly

good renewable sources ready to go at our disposal.

But no, let's get rid of all the water, let's poison it, let's trap it deep underground

because God forbid we do anything that might actually help the planet.

9 #MandelaEffect proofs that we're not in Kansas anymore 2018 [Part 4] - Duration: 14:34.

in our first three episodes we covered a lot of ground

but are still left with a few more questions and mystery memories

so have you miss remembered these things

or have they actually changed

like these famous locations

or these people

or even famous movie scenes

hmmm

let's look again

as we bring you the Mandela effect part four

on the edge of wonder

and now, here's your hosts Bendela effect and Rob DejaVu

we're your hosts I'm Ben

and I'm Rob

so if you didn't know about this one don't worry

it seems a lot of people don't know much about this

including Ben and I

so guys do you remember the fight with Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield

in the 90s and what made this so sensational

of course man

I mean it was Tyson biting off Evander Holyfield's ear

I mean everyone was up in arms about this, right

dude, everybody was talking about it

so this happened the later 90s and man

like everyone remembers this so well

I mean everyone in the world was talking about it

like everyone and their grandma was talking about this

it was just crazy

seriously so like plus

you remember they were playing this over and over again

so we remember that during that

you know fight Tyson

basically bit off Holyfield's ear

and actually ripped part of it off

he spit it out and there was a blood everywhere

it was a huge uproar

I remember him spitting it out and

thinking oh my god this is crazy!

everybody remembers the spit

okay the announcers were going crazy and everything was just going nuts

and everyone was saying that Tyson basically just lost his mind

if you go back now and you watch this

it's like no big deal

there's no spitting out an ear and

there's not much blood

and it kind of seems like, you know, it hurt

like ouch

yeah

so people you guy can say oh yeah you were young you remember this all wrong

but listen to this

this is Holyfield's own words on the Guardian site

he said

I was in agony

and as I danced around trying to deal with the pain

I noticed that there was blood streaming down my face and shoulders

what the heck had happened

did I get shot by a sniper

I hadn't heard any guns being fired

so here's the real kicker

he also says

quote I had no idea yet that Mike had actually bitten part of my ear off

but it wouldn't have mattered anyway

then he says that Mike pulled him in closer

quote clamped his teeth down on my other ear

also Rolling Stones headline of the event

was even called Mike Tyson bites off Evander Holyfield's ear during match

it even states that Holyfield was worried at the time

that his ear had fallen off entirely

quote I thought my ear had fallen off unquote

Holyfield said

quote look at the bite I'm missing part of my ear I just couldn't believe it

they have rules and regulations for this

so New York Times said it took 90 minutes of surgery

and eight stitches to close his ear

okay so now

I looked into this one

and now it's like I remember like there really is only a little part of Holyfield's ear

a tiny little nibble

Dude, I like literally remember

nothing that looked like that much time in surgery

no

and I remember it being a huge chunk

a huge chunk like he like took off

and that spit

and then like later it showed like stitches

and his ear was like half missing

I mean that was like crazy stuff

right

it's like no big deal now

so what the heck happened

what do you guys remember

personally I think this has gotta be a mandela effect

yeah I agree as well

yeah totally

Wizard of Oz

one of the most famous movies out there

did you guys know that there's three possible Mandela effects in the movie

that's a lot

so the first one is where Dorothy says the famous line about Kansas

do you guys remember

is it toto looks like we're not in Kansas anymore

or toto I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore

if you said you had a feeling

you're right that's the one that she says

Toto,

I have a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore

but that's not how I remembered it

That's not how I remember either

it's like who says I have a feeling we're not

I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore

yeah it's like, I don't think we're...

you know, that's what everyone says

Yeah, but then check out the next one which is like

did the wicked witch say to her flying monkeys

fly fly fly

or fly my pretties

I remember fly my pretties absolutely

yeah it's the only one I know

I do remember her saying fly fly fly but I don't know that it was at that part

that's the only time she says it

really

yeah it's either fly my pretties

yeah, it's either fly my pretties or fly fly fly

I just remember fly my pretties because there's-

no, I think it is

I can hear it in my head

I watched The Wizard of Oz with the Dark Side of the Moon way too many times man

and the third one in the movie

did you guys know that the Scarecrow now has a gun

yeah what is that?

it's like why the heck didn't he just use it

they had a gun the whole time

I don't remember that at all!

what, did he have it back here in his straw?

it like shows him, he has it in a couple scenes

he's like carrying a gun around I mean

do you guys remember that

definitely let us know

in the comments

okay next

okay this one I just found out on my own

that this is a Mandela effect

talking to you about it because

we were talking about different movies and whatnot and we came to 7

I saw this movie alone in my room

just so ingrained in the movie because I kept wanting to know what was gonna happen next

when it got to the end of the movie

and I just kept thinking to myself

I hope they don't show what's in the box like

I don't- I'm already freaked out by this point

they don't need-

-need to show me what's in the box

I specifically remember Brad Pitt

getting down

because I'm like freaked out from watching it

him opening the box

and seeing her head

and there was like blood around her-her

like a little bit of blood splattered on on her face

oh yeah

and her-her- she was like pale ghostly white or something

it was shown for at least a few seconds and

I was just so freaked out like I didn't watch that movie ever again

Because I was like I can't believe that showed that

I thought I remembered this one as well

but there's a split second scene where it shows her face when Brad looks down

is anyone else talking about this one

you see I went to a few reddit chats

found some people online found a few forums and people remember it the same way as I do

and everyone's bringing it up like all you guys are remembering

this brief flash and it's like

no we saw it for at least a few seconds

that it was showing it completely freaked me out

Okay well let's move on to a lighter one, right?

when this movie came out

do you guys remember with the black guy

you know he even has a shirt on the cover and-

I see dead people

right but we all remember it as I see I see white people

yeah of course

I mean that's what everyone remembers like that was the joke of the movie

it's like- he's like holding up the shirt and he's like, I see white people

and we were like really kind of laughing at it you know because we were all like,

When did it change? It changed to I see dead people?

it's just I see dead people

I see dead people

that doesn't even

that- they would never do that

the Wayans brothers would never do that

it's not even funny I mean it's just exactly what the sixth sense kid said

so it's like why what makes that funny

and a lot of people are freaking out about this one too

Alice in Wonderland

this is another big one for me

so Tweedledee and Tweedledum are in the the cartoon version of Alice in Wonderland

what do they have on top of their heads?

of course they have the little- they have the like the spinner things

a little spinner thing, just remember that

Like a fan, I don't know what those are called

so I specifically remember one scene where they like fall- the guy- they're fat right

and they fall over and then the things spinning

and like every time they-

and then they'd get up

and then like every time something would happen the thing would spin around

when they would talk right

they have a yellow flag on their head

what?

a yellow flag

does anyone remember a yellow flag on their heads?

No, no, no

it was the spinner

there's even costumes that are designed you know

that you can get for like Halloween costumes that still have the spinner on

of course there's some now with flags on it but I mean you can see multiple photos of people

I wonder if you- did you look at a bunch of illustrations on this one

I did I did

did you see that they always have a flag or is it a spinner

well so this is where a lot of people are saying well this is what you remember

some of the illustrations do have like a spinner

in the book I don't think they have anything that-

you know, doesn't go with the specifics in the book you know

but I mean, most of us-

a lot of people remember them having a spinner so

then there's Silence of the Lambs

does he say hello clarice or does he say good morning

this one is crazy because I remember-

I can hear his voice

in my head

Hello Clarice

Hello Clarice

and more so than like fly, fly my pretties

because this one it's like

yeah

I've only saw this movie one time

and that's what I remember that scene

yeah

I mean he says good morning?

Like why does he say good morning?

Good morning.

dr. Lecter my name is Clarice Starling

so I mean I don't know how you guys feel if we're living in the twilight zone now

because I mean after- especially after

mr. Rogers I mean that just was like totally mind-blowing

but if you-if you

haven't already felt you're in the twilight zone

let me ask you this

what do you guys remember as the host of The Twilight Zone

is it rod sterling or is it Rod Serling

I have to say sterling here right

I mean like

I mean that's what I said I mean when-

I've never heard the last name Serling

Yeah, it just sounds weird. Serling

So okay we'll just kind of go with some quick ones here

another another names

like Sally Fields or Sally Field

I mean we mentioned Sally Field on our very first one

but we actually didn't mention her name and a lot of people were like hey why-

Sally Fields is actually one herself

oh that's true

and the weird thing is her brother works at CERN

that's the weirdest thing we found out about Sally Fields

is that her brother used to work at CERN

Ben, I had given this some thought

and if I was one of those scientists at CERN

but if I knew about this right

obviously I would be changing I would probably go

and try and change something in my own life

now if you change something in your own life

it's gonna affect all of your other family members right

so maybe maybe

like if like

speculation here obviously

is that maybe he changed some things in his own life or they did

and it had this residual effect on all the other members of his family

and that's why Sally Field doesn't make any sense anymore

okay anyway

maybe

could be

yeah and then you have also going along with names

is it Christopher Reeves or Christopher Reeve

Uh....

who played Superman which one do you think

oh I always say Reeves

yeah I always say Reeves too

but it's Reeve, isn't it?

it's Reeve

yeah

crazy

I always go with the one that I just like-

you know choosing the one that I know

is gonna be the changed one

so this temple which looks like something you would find in Disneyworld or a sci-fi movie

is in Thailand and get this has 1 million statues

and cost a whopping 1 billion dollars to build

a billion dollars

so if that wasn't enough to make you question this

it has been a point of controversy since its inception back in the 1970s

with its unconventional religious teachings and

the commercialization of Buddhism

it also sits over 1,000 acres of land which is about the size of an airport

yeah or it's almost 600 football fields

yeah crazy

so also in 2014 the head monk was accused of

receiving stolen money from a supporter

and money- money laundering

what is this? Breaking Bad?

I have no idea

Or Ozark or something?

I'm wondering where this billion dollars even came from

I mean, maybe this is it

maybe...I don't know, the whole thing is super weird

so continuing with Asia we all know of the Great Wall of China right

but what about the Great Wall of India

mm-hmm

so in India there's a wall that surrounds an ancient fort of kun ball car

which holds one of the best-kept secrets of India

yes the wall protects a massive fort that contains over 300 ancient temples

the wall was constructed half a millennia ago

in tandem with the cool ball gar fort itself

so what makes this strange is that

not many people seem to know it exists

so anyway I reached out to a few of our Indian friends and asked them like

do you guys know about this wall

like I had no idea

one of them was like oh yeah, yeah, sure, like we all know about it

you know my friends know about it and everything

but well one of them said they had no idea

that the wall even exists I mean

he is living in- in America but I mean

I mean he goes India a lot

and then the other one said she just recently learned about it

but she said it's not something they learn about in school and that's what-

that's been there for so long

I mean India is a huge country

it is.

it is a huge country I mean granted you know

but I mean you know in the US if-

all of us know of the general like

yeah

huge things that

that we have in the US

it'd be like not hearing about Disney world in Florida or something

yeah yeah yeah

one of them was just completely shocked she-

they were just like how did I not know that this thing...

exists?

like she was just like this is totally crazy

yeah, and so like the wall is over 36 kilometers, or about 22 miles in length

and it goes over valleys, mountaintops

and is 50 meters thick at some parts

with all bricks of stone

so it's very similar to China's Great Wall, although a lot smaller

it's just that not as many people outside of India have heard of it

so the point is if you don't know about this,

don't worry

I mean they didn't either and I mean we didn't know about it

but anyway, I mean this could be a case of Mandela effects

but what do you guys think?

let us know in the comments for sure do you remember this

so what do you guys think about Mandela effect video that we made for you guys

do you disagree or agree with the list that we came up with

let us know in the comments below

Also, don't forget to hit like and subscribe for more videos

Making the Atmosphere Disappear. The Power of Adaptive Optics - Duration: 10:32.

The Earth's atmosphere keeps us safe from the harsh environment of space, but it also

obscures our view into the cosmos.

No matter how powerful a telescope you build, the turbulence of the atmosphere limits your

resolution.

But astronomers and engineers have an amazing technology that allows a telescope to peer

into space as if the atmosphere isn't even there, producing images from here on the ground

which are as sharp and clear as if the telescope was out in space.

It's called adaptive optics, and we're now at the point where the most powerful ground-based

telescopes have matched and even exceeded the capability of space telescopes.

Let's start with an amazing photograph now that brings the capability of adaptive optics

into focus.

This is a photograph of Neptune captured by the European Southern Observatory's Very

Large Telescope, using its new adaptive optics instrument called MUSE.

We'll talk more about adaptive optics and MUSE in a second, but check this out.

Compare this with the best image ever taken by the Hubble Space Telescope.

Now, the surface features aren't going to match up because they were taken at different

times, but wow.

And here's a photo of Neptune taken by Voyager 2.

Okay, fine, this one is better, but keep in mind that Voyager 2 was only 7 million kilometers

away from the planet.

While Earth and Hubble-based images are more than 600 times farther away.

So it's not exactly fair.

Let's look at another image recently released from the European Southern Observatory, zooming

in and in on the globular star cluster NGC 6388.

This is the field of view captured in the Very Large Telescope's Wide Field Mode,

and this is the improvement using the MUSE Narrow Field Mode.

Again, wow, it's clearly full of stars.

Let's talk about adaptive optics.

The turbulence of the Earth's atmosphere is a big problem for astronomers, and this

is why space telescopes like Hubble were developed.

Of course, for all their clarity, space telescopes have their downsides; they're expensive

and difficult to maintain and upgrade.

And if anything goes wrong, you need to send spacewalking astronauts to fix them.

When a powerful ground-based telescope is pointed at an object in space, like Neptune,

for example, the Earth's atmosphere blurs that object.

Let's go back to that photo of Neptune and show a comparison of with and without adaptive

optics.

What's really happening here is that the image of Neptune is shifting around in the

telescope's field of view.

If you do a really long exposure, all you get is more blur.

You can never resolve your image with pinpoint accuracy.

In fact, the most powerful telescopes on Earth have no better spatial resolution than a typical

backyard telescope, thanks to the atmosphere.

As far back as the 1950s, engineers proposed that if you could somehow deform the mirror

of a telescope in real time to account for the atmospheric turbulence, you should be

able to remove its distortions.

In the 1960s and 70s, the US military developed the first adaptive optics systems, such as

the Starfire Optical Range in New Mexico and the Advanced Electro-Optical Facility in Hawaii.

They found that they could deform a mirror in just one dimension, they could sharpen

the image seen by their telescopes.

Based these advances, more sensitive adaptive optics were attached to the huge twin Keck

observatories in Hawaii.

The European Southern Observatory has been using adaptive optics on their telescopes

for almost 20 years now.

So here's exactly how they work.

Let's say a telescope is looking at a faint galaxy in the sky.

Astronomers locate a relatively bright star within about 10 arcseconds of the target.

Just to give you an idea of how small that is, one arcsecond is a dime viewed about 2

kilometers away.

Light from both the guide star and the galaxy pass through the telescope's optics and

a special camera called a wavefront sensor measures the guide star's distortions, hundreds

or even thousands of times a second.

That's why the guide star has to be bright; if it's too faint, you can't see it changing

quickly enough to provide any data.

This information is passed along to a computer that calculates the distortions and then sends

instructions to a deformable mirror on the telescope.

This mirror is tweaked and deformed in real time to reverse the effects of that atmospheric

turbulence.

Deformable mirrors are usually a piece of glass that's a few centimeters thick, which

has a series of actuators behind that can be shortened or lengthened.

As the waves of light from the telescope strike the mirror, they're corrected in real time

to remove the atmospheric distortions and passed along to the telescope's camera system.

So what do you do if there isn't a bright star near the object you want to photograph?

For these situations, astronomers create an artificial guide star.

They shoot a powerful laser up from the observatory that's tuned to a very specific wavelength

of light that causes sodium atoms to glow in a region that's about 100 km in altitude.

This glowing region creates an artificial star that's bright enough to serve as a

guide star for the astronomer's observations.

Now that you understand how adaptive optics works in general, I'd like to talk about

some of these specific instruments.

And I'll get to that in a second, but first I'd like to thank:

Stephen Fleetwood Jörg Karwath

Dale Kirkwood Brian Westcott

Kirk Briggs Scotty Jones

And the rest of our 827 patrons for their generous support.

If you love what we're doing and want to get in on the action, head over to patreon.com/universetoday.

That photo of Neptune I showed you earlier was taken by the European Southern Observatory's

MUSE instrument, which stands for the Multi-Unit Spectroscopic Explorer.

It's attached to one of the Very Large Telescope's four 8.4 meter telescopes.

Instead of a single guide star, the telescope fires 4 separate lasers into space, giving

MUSE 4 artificial guide stars to compensate for atmospheric distortion.

The original Wide-Field Mode was unveiled in the summer of 2017, and allowed astronomers

to observe a region of the sky that was about an arcminute across.

If you want something that's only about an arcminute, the Saturn Nebula is a great

fit.

Here's a stunning image that ESO released in September of 2017 showing the Saturn Nebula,

also known as NGC 7009.

Located about 5,000 light-years from Earth, this was once a star like our Sun that reached

the end of its life, and expanded into a red giant, throwing its outer layers off into

space.

This is Wide-Field Mode.

The big announcement just a few weeks ago is that its Narrow-Field Mode is now operational.

Just like Wide-Field, it uses adaptive optics to remove the turbulence from the atmosphere,

but it can show a dramatically smaller piece of the sky.

Remember, this is incredibly difficult because you're not likely to get a usable guide

star in a smaller field of view.

That's why the lasers are so important.

This new mode allows the telescope to see a region just 7.5 arcseconds across.

Neptune, if you're wondering, is just 2.4 arcseconds across at its closest, which is

why this was one of the targets chosen to celebrate the Narrow-Field Mode.

It's not just visible light that takes advantage of adaptive optics.

The Very Large Telescope is also equipped with an instrument called GRAAL, or the Ground

Layer Adaptive Optics module, which allows the telescope to see objects in the infrared

spectrum.

This is when you want to see cooler objects like brown dwarfs, newly forming planetary

systems and extrasolar planets.

Again, from the ground.

And ESO is planning to release another instrument shortly called ERIS, or the Enhanced Resolution

Imager and Spectograph, which will take its infrared capabilities to the next level.

It's expected to see first light in 2020.

Perhaps the most exciting part about this whole announcement is that this adaptive optics

suite of instruments on the Very Large Telescope is really just a proof of concept; a way to

test out this next level of adaptive optics in preparation for the next generation of

supertelescopes.

A larger, more capable version of this technology is going to be attached to the European Southern

Observatory's upcoming Extremely Large Telescope, which will measure 39-meters across and gather

15 times more light than any operational telescope today.

The EELT will bounce the light off 5 separate mirrors, sampling the wavefront of light up

to 1000 times a second, and then using 5000 separate actuators to adjust for the turbulence

of the atmosphere.

In fact, several instruments attached to the telescope will have their own adaptive optics

systems, letting them tune the light.

If all goes well, it'll see first light in 2024.

And as soon as it does, expect to see those lasers zapping into space.

A telescope 39 meters across, with a state of the art adaptive optics system.

I can't wait.

Similar systems will be attached to the Giant Magellan Telescope and the 30-Meter Telescope.

I've attached a link to a paper that details precisely how all these next generation adaptive

optics systems will work, so if you really want the technical details, you should check

them out.

Conclusion I really think we're at a turning point

now, where scientists are going to be making enormous advances thanks to both ground and

space-based observatories.

Instead of being trapped under the blanket of the Earth's atmosphere, astronomers have

figured out how to compensate for it.

To ignore it.

Who Are You Pleasing? (08.12.18 PART 3/3) ** - Duration: 15:55.

That's what I was watching, that's what I wanted it to be I watched. The movie Heat

and if you know my testimony that's what my retirement was gonna be to rob a bank

to rob a bank that was my retirement plan praise God he rescued me from that

crazy mind so he says here then you will know then you will know then you will

know see it's all in the mind we have to renew our mind and you will know to do

how to do everything you will know how to do everything that is good and

pleasing to him to him not the world you see it so we going back but let God

change the way you think don't be like the people of this world we're still in

this world well we don't have to be off this world the best thing that could

have happened to us is that when we accepted Christ God took us straight to

heaven is that what I've avoided many mistakes in our lives don't we agree

that many times if we have failed his name and shamed his name that would have

been perfect I think or to accept you as my Lord and Savior

oh man great no more mistakes because I did a lot of mistakes did a lot of

mistakes even after accepting Christ but not until not until I let God change the

way I think I was thinking next verse still about renewing our minds

Colossians chapter 3 verse 22 since then you have been raised with Christ you're

a new creation the old has gone the new has come you are a new creation if you

accepted Christ as your Lord you're a new creation everything about you your

old life must have been placed should have been placed to death

set your hearts set your desires on things above your desires should be

about heaven about bringing people to Christ so that they could also go to

heaven that should be our desire our hearts because out of the abundance of

the heart the mouth speaks so examine yourself what comes out of

your mouth most of the time is it golf is it boxing is it basketball is it

football is it money is it your children and there's really nothing wrong with

those things that I just mentioned but if it becomes more important than God

then that is your Idol and we need to change it well you can't change it from

the outside I mean I guess you can but real change comes from the inside real

change comes from the inside from within and then it goes without so that's why

we have to set our hearts and things above where Christ is seated at the

right hand of God and set your minds on things above not on earthly things not

on earthly things you know I've been praying that God will remove especially

when I took the calling my prayer up to now is like Lord remove everything that

I desire from this world completely remove all my desires from this world

because the moment I remem something about this world I know it hinders my

walk with Him and my intimacy with him I lose it

so my prayer is always Lord remove all my desires from this world set my mind

on things above Lord I shouldn't even worry about certain

things although I plan although I still were

but all of these things are just secondary because we have to work

correct we have to work and we have to plan but it doesn't consume my life

anymore it shouldn't consume your life

everything else must be about pleasing him and him alone

amen the question is do you want to please him have you decided to live your

life completely and utterly for God have you decided to abandon everything for

him imagine yourself standing by the cliff right and there's a big drop when

God tells us to do something it's like something about jump he's telling us go

ahead jump and he's telling us to trust him all you need to do is basically just

let go and experience that drop that's the

complete abandonment that we need to do spiritually with God in order for us to

really walk this Christian life which is impossible it is only possible with

Christ we need to renew our minds we need our God our Lord's help with this

we have many years of information that's been implanted in our minds in our brain

beliefs you know from the world from the people that we care about that were the

biggest influences in our lives all those ideas that they have those are the

things that are in our minds but to follow God most of the time those things

are different unless they are believers and they were completely in love with

God too because they are out there too we can't live our life

for the Lord if we have not renewed our way of thinking there's no way in how to

live and approach this life that is impossible

whether it is for our family life our work life or just life in general

renewing our minds for God must be done in order for us to know how to do

everything that is good and pleasing to him no have you answered this silently

do you want to please him Galatians 1:10 if we were still true the second part

the last part if we were still trying to please people I would not be a servant

of Christ if you're more concerned about peep in and not God you should not be

and you will never be a servant of Christ because then your interest you

have a conflict of interest that's what they say in my business whom

are you working for are you working for the buyer or are you working for the

seller if you're working for both you have a conflict of interest hey this is

the same with the believer if you're off the world and a little bit for God and

you have a conflict of interest all be Christian on Sundays and maybe

Wednesdays maybe maybe I'll be off the world from Monday through Friday right

there's a conflict of interest it's either for your for God or your against

God amen amen Luke 14:26 if anyone comes to me and

does not hate we're not I'm not children I'm not telling you to hate

your parents hear this this hate here is to put them secondary because God must

come first if anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother wife and

children brothers and sisters my Filipino family can you read this can

you believe this because for the you know I'm pretty sure I'm pretty sure

the same for Americans but I really know about the Filipinos that the family

comes first we don't want the children moving out and I am I already crying for

four years from now that a lot of my move out is when he's 18 because we want

to keep everybody they buy a big land and they have a complex of all the

cell's Eidos so that everybody will stay close because if you move out all you're

proud of yeah bunk ah you want to move out okay okay no you're too good for us

okay I see it I see you right no he says here look for God we need to put

everybody everybody you see our culture tells us hey love family first right

you've seen it in the movies fast in the furies is all about it's really about

family not really cars well anyway it says here yes even their own life such a

person cannot be my disciple if you will not make that decision to abandon

everything and everyone including yourself your interests your wants your

dreams for God then you cannot be disciple the other one of this is Luke

9:23 if anyone wants to come after me he must deny himself take up his cross

daily and come follow me it's hard I told you it's hard right

oh we all know it's hard I'm not telling you anything new but it serves us good

for us to study this it serves us good that the Holy Spirit makes us hear this

and understand this but it serves us good if we yield to the Holy Spirit now

not later amen now not later not next week because we don't know if we got

next week

you know it says here our relationship to God must come first above any other

earthly relationship that we have every single thing that comes before our

relationship to him becomes an idol because we worry about what they have to

say rather than what God has to say I pray that you will live your life for

God's approval and that you will live your life holy and pleasing to God and

to him alone you know the truth is human love has an

end their approval if you don't if you never get it you'll get it for a little

while and then you lose it again but you know God this is in some turned

to Psalm 27 10 Psalm 27 10 it reads though my father and mother forsake me

the Lord will receive me and then I say a 51:12 it reads this is God speaking I

even I am he who comforts you who are you that you fear mere mortals human

beings are but grass that's Isaiah 51 12

in John 5:30 reads I can do nothing this is Jesus speaking I can do nothing on my

own I judge as God tells me therefore my judgment is just because I

carry out the will of the one who sent me not my will in this church our cry

our battle cry is to know Christ to become like him and to make him known

and all of that is doing God's will amen please join me in the word of Prayer

father I thank you for your message tonight father we pray for your help

Lord we pray for for you to strengthen us Lord God as we walk away from from

this place Lord and we live our lives again come Monday father I pray that you

will remind us of whatever it is that you have shown us tonight

by the guidance Lord as we live our lives lord help us renew our minds by

studying your word and willing to change and to be used for you and by you for

your pleasing for your own approval for your approval not for men forgive us or

for the times that we failed time and time and time again forgive us for

making other people's opinion of us more important than your opinion of us and

your thought of us father we call you lord

help us to live like that we call ourselves Christians help us Lord to

glorify your name be with us father bless your people who are here tonight

but I pray that you will help them with every trouble they are in I pray for

comfort for those who are broken I pray for healing for those who are sick are

they I pray that your people will continue to be in love with you

and not with the world in Jesus name we pray amen

you
