Youtube daily Aug 7 2018

Hey Guys my name is Kashif and in this video I'm going to show you some simple Google Play

store tricks and features which you might not have bumped into yet.

It's possible you may be aware of some or all the Google Play store tricks mentioned

below, but a recap would be perfect for refreshing your memory.

So, here are the most helpful tips and tricks for the Google Play Store:

Test And Refund Apps

Did you know that you can get refunds for paid apps in the Play Store?

Google is pretty lenient regarding what you can refund and reasons for claiming a refund,

and the process is fast and straightforward.

And yes, you can return an app if you "later decided you didn't want it."

Learn more in the official website on Google Play Store refunds.

Once you've purchased an app, on its Play Store page you'll see options to Install or

Open.

In addition, a Refund option should appear to the left of it.

Tap the refund button within two hours of your purchase to get your money back, no questions

asked.

For paid apps and games, you have two hours after your purchase to request a refund (or

48 hours if you make your refund request on the web instead of through the Play Store

app).

The only exception is for unauthorized purchases, which have a limit of 65 days.

Put A Parental Lock On Google Play

The Play Store offers three distinct ways to "lock down" app installations, which

come in real handy if you regularly let your kids play games or stream videos on your device:

Fingerprint Block: If your device has a fingerprint scanner, you can restrict purchases to your

fingerprint by going to Settings ➜ User Controls ➜ Fingerprint authentication.

Parental Control PIN: You can also restrict purchases by going to Settings ➜ User Controls

➜ Parental controls.

Turn it on, set a PIN, and you're good to go.

Mature Content Filter: You can set when the PIN is necessary by going to Settings ➜ User

Controls ➜ Parental controls ➜ Set content restrictions.

Disallowing Teen, Mature, and Adults Only apps should be enough in most cases.

Device Manager

You can now easily find out your lost android mobile with the help of Device Manager.

Go to the link Google Drive Manage and log in your Google ID.

With this amazing feature, you can find out your lost device.

Install An App That Isn't Available In Your Country:

If you're really keen to get an app that's not available in your country then you can

still get your hands on it by using a VPN.

'VPN' means 'virtual private network'.

It gives you a secure internet connection via private networks in locations outside

of your current one.

Basically, a VPN service can make it look like you're accessing the internet from a

different location.

It's important that you choose a credible VPN.

We regularly feature VPN deals in our AndroidPIT Store if you're looking for a good one at

a low price.

Once you've downloaded a VPN, select the country whose Play Store you want to access in the

VPN app, get the VPN up and running, then open the Play Store app.

It should land on the Play Store homepage of the country you selected.

Now you can get the app you desire.

Unlock Early Access And Beta Apps

Sometimes you'll hear of an upcoming app that's generating a lot of buzzes but hasn't

been released to the public yet.

You can check if it's available as an "early access" app, and if it is, you may be able

to try it out ahead of time.

Beware that early access apps are often buggy, glitchy, poorly optimized, and prone to crashes.

The Play Store also allows developers to offer separate beta versions of already-released

apps.

These beta apps often have more features and other improvements, but may not be quite ready

for public release due to crashes, bugs, glitches, etc.

That's Pretty much it guys for this one if you liked this make sure to press the like

button and subscribe for more content like these Thank for watching and I'll see you

FINDING YOUR TRIBE (5 STEPS TO ATTRACT & ELEVATE) - Duration: 12:24.

Sunny Lenarduzzi: When it comes to success in relationships, business, and life, what's

the most influential factor?

Well, as Jim Rohn famously said, we are the average of the five people we spend the most

time with.

The people you surround yourself with affect your thinking, your mood, your self-esteem,

and your decisions.

If you surround yourself with people who inspire you, you'll be more motivated to take action.

But have you ever wondered how you actually connect with people that you admire?

I've been really fortunate to build tribe around me of people that I once really looked

up to, and now they've become friends and part of my network.

So that's why I wanted to make this video.

So, smash the like button and I'm going to show you how to build your tribe step by step.

Cheers.

Step number one is the magnet effect.

Now, this exercise actually changed my life.

And I've used this exercise to build my tribe from scratch, and to attract the right people

into my life in all different kinds of capacities, whether it's personal or business related.

So, how does this exercise work?

Okay, well hat I want you to do, whether you do this right now and pause the video, or

do this at the end of the video, it's really, really important and if you don't do this

step, none of the other things I'm going to tell you today are going to work and you're

going to still feel frustrated that you're not attracting the right people into your

life.

So, whether you like it or not, you are what you attract.

If you're trying to attract people that are inspiring and motivated and going after their

dreams, but you're not doing that, why would that person want to be around you?

I want you to write down the traits of your ideal best friend, your ideal tribe member

who would be the exact person that you need and want in your life, who you know is going

to help you build an even bigger and better life for yourself.

So, things for me on my list when I do and continue to do this exercise is abundance,

and open minded, and generous.

Healthy, fit, inspirational, motivated, driven.

So many things on the list, and the list really does go on.

And then basically what you do is once you write that list, you want to look at it and

go am I embodying all these traits?

Because if you're not embodying the traits that you're trying to attract in your tribe

in the people that are surrounding you, it's going to be really hard to attract your tribe.

So, you have to do this exercise first before you move on to anything else.

You want to flip the script on yourself, write down all the things you want in a best friend,

and then see if you're actually all of those things.

Step number two is do a tribe audit.

Now, this is going to feel weird and uncomfortable.

But, growth is uncomfortable, and the only way to grow is to really take audit of the

people and the things in your life, and how they are affecting your growth.

So, tribe audit is simply taking a look at the people you're spending the most time with,

the five people you're spending the most time with in your life.

Ar those people fitting into the traits and the things that you're looking for in your

tribe?

If they're not, and if you have people in your life that are what I like to call soul

suckers, because they drain you of your energy, they drain you of all of your optimism and

positivity, but you have to put on your own mask first if you've ever heard that analogy

when you're in an airplane.

You're always told if anything goes on, put on your own mask first.

You have to take care of yourself first in order to be the best version of yourself for

everyone else around you.

So, in order to take care of yourself, you have to take an audit of the people you're

spending the most time with.

And it doesn't mean if they don't fit the criteria you have to cut them out of your

life by any means.

They could be old friends, they could be good friends, they just may not be the people that

are going to elevate your energy and elevate you to a new place in your life that's much

more positive than maybe where you are currently.

So, you just want to be cautious and really do another audit of the amount of time you're

spending with those people.

And reallocating that time to discover new relationships and new friendships with people

who are going to, again, lift you up and elevate you.

Soul suckers.

Real quick, I want you to be very, very honest, this is a safe place and a safe community,

and we can all learn from one another, right?

So, in the comments below I want you to write down the traits of your ideal tribe members.

What are the top three, top five things that you want in the people you spend most time

with?

It's okay to be blunt, it's okay to be honest.

It's okay to put it out there, because as soon as you do, guess what?

I bet you there's people in this community that probably are perfectly fits for your

tribe.

Step number three is find your people.

Now, this also might feel slightly uncomfortable, especially if you feel a little awkward meeting

new people, which I totally get.

It might come as a surprise to you, but building new relationships is not really comfortable

for anybody I don't think, and I'm a total homebody.

So, going to networking events and that kind of stuff, ugh, it really just drains my soul.

So, there are a few hacks to get around this.

And one of the best hacks or tips that I've ever heard came from Lori Harder, who's an

expert on building your tribe.

She's a brilliant entrepreneur, and she also wrote the book a Tribe Called Bliss, which

is all about breaking through superficial friendships, creating real connections, and

reaching your highest potential, which is what we're talking about today.

And I also had Lori on the podcast for aa full interview on the book and this subject.

If you want to check it out, it is in the description below to go listen there, and

be sure to subscribe.

So, what was Lori's tip?

She turned to Instagram, as most of us do.

But instead of just creeping other people's feeds, she was looking through hashtags that

were relevant to her.

So, she was looking at things like #fitness, #soulcycle, #laWomansevent.

And she would look up these hashtags and see who was creating content round them, or using

the tags.

And she would start following all those people, and slowly but surely build relationships.

Now, she said out of 50 people that she would reach out to on a regular basis, like every

week, about 10 of those people would get back to her.

So, don't take it personally if you don't get a response, but this is such an easy first

opportunity to reach out to somebody and start building a relationship.

Now, the next step of this, step number four, is how you actually reach out.

So, I call this clearing the blocks, which is another term that Lori shared with me.

Which really doesn't put any pressure on the person you're reaching out to, because it

is a little bit weird.

If you've never met the person, you're reaching out to them on Instagram, or you happen to

run into them at an event one time.

Going up to them, or messaging them and saying, "I can't wait to be best friends with you,"

is a little creepy.

We do generosity.

Now, it's also important to understand that I have relationships that have taken years,

I'm talking like five years to build.

Where, initially, for the first four of those five years, all I was doing was adding as

much value as I could to this person that I really looked up to and admired.

I was liking their content, I was sharing their content, I was responding to their emails.

Whenever they've had an ask on social media for any help with anything, I would try and

see if my skillset fit my needs, and I would try and reach out and help them.

Because sometimes if the person is on a really high level and they're super successful, they're

getting inundated with people trying to get their attention.

So instead of trying to get their attention, you want to say this is how I can actually

help you, and I would love to do this.

No pressure, whatever you need from me I'm happy to help.

So that's the best way to start really clearing those blocks.

So, instead of asking, just give them some sort of generosity, give them some sort of

lead in, where you're actually helping them, and you aren't asking them for a thing.

And that will pay off all day, every day, way faster, even if it does take a couple

of years.

Way faster than asking for something right off the bat.

I can tell you right now that when I get emails from people, or DM's from people saying, "Can

I pick your brain?

Can I have a quick coffee chat with you?

Can I take you for lunch?"

I don't have time.

And I know that sounds terrible, but I don't.

I barely have time to see my friends and my family at the moment with how busy things

are.

People that get my attention are the people that lead with value.

Even if it might not be something that I can ake them up on right now, they're always going

to be filed away in my brain.

And I actually have a special folder for them, because one day I'll probably come back and

say hey, you know hen you offered to help me with X?

I would love to take you up on that.

So, that's how you really clear the blocks for people and get their guards down, is not

asking, but giving.

Finally, step number five is reiterating this point, and making sure that you don't take

it personally if you don't get a response from someone that you want to build a relationship

with.

So, first and foremost if you don't get a response and you kind of lose the inclination

to even want to build a relationship with that person, that's cool, let it go.

But there's probably someone who you are really interested in meeting, or sitting down for

coffee with, or building a relationship with in the long run.

And don't let that go.

So, what I do is I usually span it out within three months, and I'll put a reminder on my

calender, or in my notebook, or in a [inaudible 00:09:19] to say reach out to X.

And it'll have a whole list of people that I do want to build relationships with, and

it'll just be me pinning them again, to be basically checking in and saying, "Hey, hope

everything's great with you.

I saw your recent post on this," or "I saw you just launched this.

I wanted to say congratulations."

Or, "I really loved reading that," or, "Watching that video."

"And as always, if there's anything that I can support you with, please let me know."

Or, if you see something specific that they need help with, mention that and say you know

what, that's actually what I do, and I would love to offer you my guidance.

Here's a really quick strategy of what I think could be helpful for you.

Lay it out for people, tell them exactly how you can add value.

And you'd be surprised at the response you get.

So, I mark a three month reminder for the people that I really want to build relationships

with, to continue to follow up with them.

Again, no expectations, I'm not asking to pick their brain, I'm not asking them to go

for coffee or lunch.

I'm just saying how can I help you?

And that's where you're really going to see those relationships start to bloom.

Never ever ever utter the phrase can I pick your brain?

Not only does it sound gross, but it's probably the most off putting phrase that anyone in

the world can hear.

This brain of mine has taken 31 years to build, so you can't pick my brain and get all the

information that I have up here in a quick coffee chat, and it's pretty much insulting

to say that to somebody who is an expert in their field.

So, let's just all make a rule, and we're never going to say that to anyone again?

Okay?

If you're down for that, put, "Boss," in the comment below.

Also, I wanted to reiterate that this will take time.

And it may take years, but it also may take a couple o days or even a few months with

the right people in your tribe.

But those big aspirational people that you hope to have in your circle one day, it's

okay if it does take time.

Just continue to add value to them, and I swear to you it will come back tenfold eventually.

So, thank you so much for being a part of this tribe.

TOP TRACKS #1: "Camila" by Camila Cabello (Album Review) | EN/PT Subtitles - Duration: 13:08.

Hi, everybody! That's Matheus with an H and welcome to my channel!

In "top tracks" I choose an album and I'm going to put the songs of the album in my personal order

of preference. So it's totally based on my personal taste right!? I put the songs

that I like the most on the top and the songs that I don't really like at the

bottom. And doing this I'm gonna be commenting of the songs, talking some

things about them, why I like them, why I don't like them and give my general

impression about the album, okay!? So, stay tuned!

And I'm starting this with ""Camila" by Camila Cabello which was released this year and the album has 11 songs originally but the

last one is a radio edit of "Never be the same" so I'm not going to consider

this one. I'm doing the video with 10 songs, right!? so let's jump right in

My 10th songs, which means that is the song that it's my least favorite of the album and actually

I don't really like that song: it's "inside out" and I first heard inside out

when she performed live at the Bruno Mars tour. She performed "oh my god oMG" and

"Havana", "Never be the same" and "Inside out". "Bad Things" as well I think, I don't remember

"Crying in the club" yeah... she had a lot of songs in the repertory

but the new ones were those 4 and I didn't like "Inside Out" I really didn't

because I don't know... it didn't really catch me, the vibe, the song

anything, so it's the one that I always skip when I'm listening to the album so

it's my 10th one, I'm sorry, I don't like it. The 9th one is also a song that

I know a lot of fans like this one you might gonna kill me but it's just my

taste just remind that it's my personal taste: "In The Dark" I don't like in the

dark and actually sometimes I fall in love with a song just by a

few things that the singer does with her voice, specific lyrics, specific tones, and

instruments, and "In the dark" has an element that for me goes against this

feeling, you know? like the "who are you in the dark, I - I" when she does like "I - I"

I don't like that I don't like this song so I'm not a big fan of in the dark but

I like the message though I really think that the message is really cool, the lyrics

are really nice but the sound overall mm-hmm

does't work for me. The eighth one is "real friends" and it's kind of similar

like similar to in the dark how I feel about the dark is how I feel

related to real friends. I like the message of the song, I like the lyrics of

the song, the content of the song is really cool

but I don't really like the melody of the song you know she released this before the

album came out like one week before and it has a lot of views on YouTube the

audio version and yeah when I first heard it I was like okay cute song but

when she released the album and overall was not really... it didn't really catch

me you know but but I like I like the lyrics. I'm just not a big fan of it

you know so real friends yeah. So from this part on, it was really hard to

decide the order of the songs because the rest of the songs I really like

them a lot but the the seventh one is one song that

I I liked from the moment that I heard but it wasn't really big on me but in

the past month it has really grown on me and I don't know why but it's just

really connecting to me a lot in the past few few weeks and it's "All These Years"

I thought about putting it higher but I considered the history of the song

in me so I decided to put it on 7th place was really hard though to place

them, the next songs but in seventh is all these years.I love the lyrics

I love how she sings, I love the melody, I love this little thing at the end of the

song. It's just so good just really good love it. I would love to hear her

singing it acoustically, an acoustic version of all these years would be amazing

yeah. The song number six is "Havana" and there's a reason for Havana to be in the

the middle of this, it's just because Havana is the single. It is her hit, you know

It's the reason why she's so big today and I love everything about Havana

I love the music video, I love the the song choice it was my favorite

between OMG and Havana. Havana was my favorite

one and I think that... the... I'm thinking

about the Spanish version, I like the Spanish version a lot I preferred Daddy

Yankee than Young thug and I love the live versions that she sings without the

Young Thug verse on it but the song is really nice so it wouldn't be the same without

Young Thug. You never know right! but I'm putting it

on number six because I'm kind of tired of listening to it, it's on the radio

every time, the song is on the radio every single time, in every single party

it's playing, but it's a really really nice song you know a song of summer, winter, of all the

seasons because it's really good and she deserves this song so... I'm kind of tired

of this song but when it comes on I'm just all about that I'm jamming to it

okay now we are going to the top five it was very hard very hard because it's a

top five and I love them all but I managed to put them in order so the fifth

one is one song that people are dying to be a single "She loves control" right

I'm talking about it. I love she lost control, she has attitude, she has

everything, melody everything, lyrics everything and I think it has potential

to be a hit as well, not so much as Havana, but it has potential to grow on

the charts and Never be the same did pretty well so I think she loves control would do

pretty well as well, I don't know why but I really think that Camila is

afraid of releasing more songs I don't know what's going on you know and people

are rooting for she loves control to be a single actually it's not my favorite

one to be a single because they have another one that I'm dying to be a

single that I see a lot of potential and I'm gonna talk about it later but

yeah I see people rooting for she loves control and I'm down

you know I'm rooting for it as well and if it's a single I'll be okay

with it and it's my number five. My 4th one of this

album is "Never Be the Same" you know what, Never be the same used to be my

favorite and I fell in love with the song for the first time that I've heard it

and I love the song I remember telling my friends that it it was kind of Taylor

Swift vibe to me I don't know like the romantic vibe of it the guitar and

everything and it's a song that I really like, I love her tone, her range, the

song is sick and she showcases a lot of her vocal potencial

on the song and... amazing! I love never the same. Okay now we're going to the top

three and my third one is "Consequences" you guys are going to notice that I'm

a lover her of ballads, I love love songs I love ballads I love sad songs that's the

truth, I love pianos, I love violins, I love lyrics that talks about love and

suffering and all of that. I love that! it really catches me and I don't know I

just love to listen to them

and "Consequences" is just brilliant right? It's Camila's favorite

I've heard that it's her favorite now on the album and it's just really good so the

lyrics are so nice and how her voice is so pure and how she plays with the

lyrics how she tells the story through the lyrics and it's really nice so

that's my third one and my second favorite song of the album is... we only

have to remaining and they are one ballad and a pop song

one happy song, they are on two different extremes of the album literally because

they are so different from each other but they are my two

favorite songs so yeah my second one is "Into It"

I love into it, so this song is the perfect pop song and I was telling

before that I had another one that I preferred to be a single that I'd rather

to be a single than "She Loves Control" and it's "Into It" I think that into it has

potential to be a massive pop hit it's all that we need we need to be fed with

a good pop song right now and INTO IT has it like I don't know why Camila doesn't

release it but the lyrics are so sexual and so sexy and so pop and I

imagine a really cool video for the song. I wish she could release the

song as a single because it's an amazing pop song and definitely one of my

favorites of the album. So my favorite one of the album, my top one, my number

one, my favorite Camila song, definitely, no doubt

heads down: "Something's gotta give" that song though it kills me every single

time I will never forget the first time that I've heard the song I'm never

gonna forget because I just felt something you know like you know when

you listen to something then you feel something in your heart in your soul is

just like oh my god that's the song something's gotta give

favorite one so I love like I said I love ballads

I love romantic songs, I love sad songs and something's gotta give it's it all

I love the lyrics and you know for whom it is right and I love that about it how

the song is real, how the lyrics are real to her and you know it just came

connected to it because it's real because you can imagine all the situation

and also you can relate to the song it's just so beautiful just so so good the

way she sings. I love it I love it love it love it

my favorite thing about is definitely the lyrics combined to the melody, I love the

piano, I love that. So Something's gotta give is definitely

my number one song of Camila. My favorite one! Love it!

I don't see it as a single I don't really want it to be a single, because I don't

think it's gonna it's gonna make a good single you know I'd rather have it as a

one song of the album yeah So that's my top ten of Camila by Camila

Cabello hope you liked this video I'm starting this thing right now, I'm

discovering this thing I'm going to explore this a little bit more so I'm

gonna be talking about albums, doing top tracks of

different albums and see how it works I hope you liked so give it a thumbs up if

you liked the video subscribe on the channel because it's coming more videos

later about other albums, other artists. Here, click on the button

below comment here your favorite songs of the album, your favorite one and least

favorite one, what's your opinion about my top tracks, what's your top tracks of

Camila? Hope you liked and See you on the next one!

These Birthday Enthusiasts Are Changing The Lives Of Homeless Kids | Southern Living - Duration: 2:42.

This is chance for us to take one moment

out of our lives to say, "You're worth celebrating."

I think that birthdays matter because we matter,

because people matter.

We celebrate children living in homeless shelters

and transitional living facilities.

Here in Dallas, we have a shelter that has 30 rooms,

so at any given time we have about a hundred and 20

people living with us.

What we want to introduce, or reintroduce,

for these families is normalcy, play, joy.

I was a wedding planner for about a decade.

I was actually pregnant with my daughter, Lizzy,

flipping through a magazine

reading about kids' birthday parties,

and I actually put that magazine down,

and I picked up another magazine,

and the first image that I came across

was an image of a little boy in Haiti.

He was in the middle of a dusty and crowded street,

and yet he looked all alone.

I realized that there were children in our community

that also needed to be celebrated.

In the South, we really like to throw big bashes.

We have the coolest birthday enthusiasts in the world.

That's what we call our volunteers.

We line up our birthday enthusiasts,

we create our magical tunnel,

we turn the music on,

and we cheer everyone in the doors.

And as the families run through,

they all disperse into different activities.

Families who are experiencing homelessness

are trying to get back on their feet.,

they are trying to become stabilized,

and get into a normal routine.

Sometimes we hear kids say that this is

the only birthday party they've ever had.

♪ Happy birthday to you ♪

I think there is a lot of confusion

and misperception around homelessness in general.

What we see with families is they're just like you and me.

They are trying to get through their lives

and something happens.

Some people, they can't get gifts for their kids,

and I know it makes any parent feel bad,

so this is a kind of a great way

to still see that smile on their child's face.

There are times when people say to us,

"You're throwing a birthday party, so what?"

And I'm so glad that I have had the opportunity

to witness time and time again

the true impact of these one hour celebrations.

These celebrations are so much more than a party.

These are loud exclamation points that children matter.

It's a good memory,

because that's what any parent wants

is at the end of the day they can turn around and say,

"Well, no matter what we went through,

"mom and dad were still able to manage to find a way

"for me to have good memories in bad times,"

and that's really findin' the light in the dark is,

I believe, one of the best things about the program.

I think it is important to remember

that it is up to each and every one of us

to provide that extra level of care and concern for people.

We might need that someday ourselves.

HIVE WITH A LOT OF SAPLING AND NO HONEY!😱 - CHECKING A HIVE THAT REMAINED WITHOUT ITS QUEEN (ENG CC) - Duration: 11:33.

Hello!

Today, we'll check a hive

that I found that it has no queen

at the beginning of June.

I gave it a queen cell,

it started to go out for pollen and

I didn't look at it after that, but now, I wanna check it

to see how it works, if it has honey,

if it has enough sapling.

So, we'll do this today!

As you can see, all the hives

are placed

in shadow, to be protected

durring torrid days.

We're removing the lid.

We're warning them

to know that

we're working in the hive.

We're starting to

take a look in the storage...

Look, there are some bees!

That's good!

Let's take

some propolis

because it's bad,

if we waste it.

We better collect it.

It's very precious,

if you know

how to use it.

There is a little bit of propolis.

We cleaned the pieces of wood

from propolis.

Now, we're moving

the frames from the storage.

I don't think they have honey, but

they are stuck together

and we can't remove the storage.

In order to work down,

we have to detach the frames

from the storage.

We detached all the frames.

Let's put this back!

Now, we're putting the pieces of wood back,

because we're removing the storage.

If there are holes,

there are big problems, like stealing,

so, we have to be careful

how we're working in the hives.

Now, we're removing the storage.

We're putting it on the lid.

They look good!

There are a lot of bees here.

Let's check the sapling

and the food, of course!

We're smoking them a bit.

It seems that this part is empty.

We're taking a frame.

It has some honey,

there is no sapling, neither its food

and there are some bees.

We are putting it near the hive.

Let's see the next frame!

There is sapling,

there is no honey...

There is enough sapling,

there is almost now honey.

The bees didn't collect honey.

I'll give this hive some syrup

or an apiculture cake.

There is a lot of sapling, but there is no honey.

I don't know what will it this sapling when it we'll hatch...

We'll check another one and that's it!

This hive is almost without honey!

There is sapling,

a lot of sapling!

It means that the queen is good and the bees are lazy

or they have nothing to collect!

The collecting period

has passed.

*saying to show the frames to the camera*

6 frames full of sapling until now!

We're smoking them a bit.

EXTRAORDINARY!

There is sapling, too!

I really have to feed this hive!

*same thing*

This hive is powerful, but it has no food...

This hive has made so much sapling that

it has eaten all the food!

I'm not checking it anymore!

It's not bad,

but it's not good either!

I really have to give this hive some syrup or

or an apiculture cake, but I think

I'll give the hive some instead of an apiculture cake.

That's all for today!

Anne: Go to voboss.com and just click on the shop tab.

Welcome, everybody, to the VO BOSS podcast.

I'm your host, Anne Ganguzza, along with my amazing, intelligent, wonderful, awesome bosstie,

Gabby Nistico.

Hey, Gabby.

[laughs]

Gabby: Keep going.

Tell me more fabulous things about me.

Anne: Gabby, there is so much fabulous about you.

[laughs]

Gabby: Aww, thanks.

Anne: So much.

I'm always, I'm always saying how fabulous you are.

Gabby: Awww, you too.

Anne: Thank you.

Gabby: We're just, we're just so fabulous together.

[fake laughs]

Anne: You know, Gabby, I have had so many people ask me questions about this voiceover

industry and how to make a living in it.

It probably would be good for us to talk a little bit about the economy and how it affects

our, our voiceover industry.

Gabby: Look, at the end of the day, right, it's all everybody cares about.

It's money.

It's how do we make money, how do we make enough money, how do we make more money?

Because it is a business.

But I think it, the, the economy or the idea of the economy plays a really big role in

two things.

One is people's perceptions.

And the other, well, it is not so kind.

It gives them an excuse.

Anne: Oh yes, yes, absolutely.

Gabby: The state of the economy, real or otherwise, can, can give people sort of a way to just

place blame elsewhere.

Anne: It's maybe a form of denial, or maybe people who aren't really looking at some things

in their business, like they really should, in order to really progress and advance, before

you point the finger and blame things [laughs] in the economy for not, you know, allowing

you to grow in your business, I think you need to really open your eyes and take a hard

look at what it is that you're doing in your business to grow it.

One of the very basic essentials is really understanding do you have a product to sell

that is of value to people, that people find value in?

And part of that is a mindset.

You know, what type of client finds value in your, in voiceover and in what you do?

If you're not seeing those clients or finding those clients, maybe it's time to shift directions

and try to look for the clients that do see the value in your product.

That is I think number one when you are forming a business.

Usually you form a business because you have a product that you think will benefit others.

And that really has to be where that, I think, initial mindset comes from, that you are providing

something of value to others.

And if others do not see the value in it, you then have to shift the product.

Gabby: What you are talking about really is supply and demand.

So there is your supply.

The demand piece is, is it in demand enough right now that I can --

Anne: Right.

Gabby: -- make a substantial living with it?

That I think is the ebb and flow that goes on in voiceover all the time.

The past 10 years have been really, really interesting.

2008, of course, we had the big market crash.

We were in a true recession --

Anne: mm-hmm.

Gabby: -- at that point, and that lasted for right about four years.

It was really '08 to '12, maybe even into 2013 that we were feeling the effects of that.

Now something I've found fascinating because of what our listeners know of the two of us

and the types of voiceovers we typically both do, right, you being the more corporate voice

actor, and me being the more commercialized voice actor.

When the economy started to shift in '08, commercials disappeared.

And the reason for this is of course because when things get tough, and when the economy

truly takes a dive, advertising budgets are the first thing to be cut.

Anne: mm-hmm.

Gabby: All companies will initially figure out, where can we afford to scale back?

And advertising is usually the quickest solution.

Right about the same time in voiceover, we had a lot of people saying things like, "oh,

there's a finite number of commercials.

Where the money is is corporate, and it's in narration because there's so many of those

types of products.

It is limitless."

Well, on most days I considered commercials to be pretty limitless as well.

There's no shortage of advertisers.

There's no shortage of advertising options.

But it was indicative of where the economy was at that moment.

Yes, commercials were very scaled-back.

So it kind of made sense.

A lot of voice actors had to shift gears.

Anne: Also I'm going to tell you, corporate budgets were slashed too.

So in the true recession, back then, in a bad economy, as a girl, right, I always say,

"OK, so what's important, hair or nails?"

And so when my budget is slashed, right, what stays and what goes?

Gabby: Big decisions.

Anne: It's kind of the same thing.

I would say back then in the true recession, we had to kind of find a way to still continue

running and operating our businesses.

And interestingly enough, you and I both survived.

What was it that allowed us to kind of ride the waves through that bad period of time

in the economy?

Gabby: Not only did we survive it, there are tens of thousands of people that didn't.

I referred to it for a long time as the purge.

Anne: Yeah.

Gabby: Because up until that point, you know, we really did have, you know, every yahoo

with a microphone coming out and going, "I do voiceovers."

There were all these unqualified, untrained people in poor studios and all kinds of things.

So many of them disappeared and dropped off because it simply got too hard.

They didn't have a way to be competitive.

Now ironically we're kind of coming back around where we've swung the other direction, and

we're seeing that again.

There's sort of that resurgence, and every yahoo with a microphone wants to get into

voiceover.

The reason that we and a lot of our colleagues survived all that is because we were competitive,

and we were highly skilled professionals.

We had the great studios.

We had the skill set.

We had the training, the professionalism, because that's the thing.

Clients aren't very forgiving.

Right?

Anne: Right.

Gabby: They're not going to take a risk with someone who's not as skilled.

They want the best that they can get for at that point the most reasonable amount of money.

Anne: Well, yeah.

And I'm going to say for like the umpteenth billion time I think, here's the time when

having some business savvy and understanding um what's going on around you and in the industry

is going to be that thing that will help you to, to move through it, and to be successful.

I think this is not, you know, when times are bad, I don't think it is the time to be

necessarily working on performance.

[laughs] It could be the time when you really have got to take a look at your business savvy

and your business acumen and really work on being able to ride that bad period out in

your business.

Whether the economy is in a recession or not, it's just something that you need to have

and you need to develop.

And I think that there's so many people level will just so quickly say, "I can't make a

living, it's…" whatever they want to point the finger to.

You know, people don't want to pay fair rates, or it's the pay-to-plays, or whatever it

is.

I think they're looking at that, and that becomes what you mentioned in the beginning.

It becomes an easy way to kind of excuse maybe --

Gabby: Sure.

Anne: -- what is going on.

I'm always telling people to keep your eyes open.

You need to understand not just what's happening.

You've got to really take a look around you, take a look at how the industry is shifting,

take a look at advertising.

Take a look at the market.

Take a look who's buying your services, and see what it is they're requiring, and really

try to shift your business and your product around that vision.

Gabby: It's how you avoid becoming the old, crusty curmudgeon entrepreneur.

We have all met that person.

Anne: The crusty curmudgeon.

Gabby: The crusty curmudgeon, because the crusty curmudgeon, not necessarily just in

voiceover, it is in every industry.

Right?

Anne: So true.

Gabby: Anytime something innovates.

Any time something changes in new technology, whatever it is, there is always that one person

who's going, "oh --

Anne: "It will never work."

Gabby: "The state of this economy, this thing, they're killing us."

They would rather complain than take action.

Anne: Yeah.

You have to be really open to change and to evolve.

I saw it all the time, Gabby, when I worked in tech when people just didn't want to adopt

new technology, and it's just the same concept, really.

The fact that our industry's evolving to more digital, more online, it's something that

is not going away.

The technology will evolve with or without you.

And so if you decide not to evolve with it, well then you know you're probably going to

be left in the dust.

Don't have negative, toxic thoughts about it because that's just going to affect you,

your performance, and your business, and people wanting to hire you.

You really have to roll with what's going on.

People's refusal to accept technology is what holds us back.

If we did not have the masses of people that kept pushing back at the advancements of technology,

think about where we would be today.

Gabby: You said something brilliant there.

In 2008, when all of the chaos was happening, in my office, I think we had about, I don't

know, maybe, I would say one, one good solid business quarter.

Man, we could see the writing on the wall, right?

Things were getting lean, and numbers were going down, and uh after I think hearing for

the umpteenth time [laughs] both out of my own mouth and my staff's mouth, you know hearing,

"oh, you know, the economy, it's really bad right now," I, I went, "OK, you know

what, new rule.

New rule.

We are never saying that phrase again."

Anne: hmm.

Gabby: We are never to utter that because we're playing a blame game, and that, that,

if we play that game, there is no solution.

We're, we're throwing it up in the air and just going, "oh, well, there is nothing

we can do about it."

Anne: Yeah, exactly.

Gabby: And screw that noise.

So I went, "OK, we are not doing this."

Since then, I have never said those words.

We hear it, we see it all the time, right, whether it be the economy, the state of the

industry, the turning tide, whatever you want to call it, right?

So now people have like fun hashtags for it, you know?

[laughs]

Anne: Yeah.

Gabby: We've got things like #racetothebottom.

No.

You will notice that the ones who are thriving, and a lot of the folks who are doing really,

really well never even acknowledge that as a factor.

What they acknowledge is, "I have to adapt.

I have to change some of the things that I'm doing, and I have to change the way I'm potentially

interacting with or finding my clients."

Anne: Gabby, I think sometimes too you have to be open to the possibility that the market,

as it evolves, the industry as it evolves, may have different needs and different requirements.

Gabby: mm-hmm.

Anne: And think about when MP3s came out and all of a sudden it was like, whoa, the bottom

fell out of the music industry.

How did the music industry survive that?

It evolved into digital music.

There is still a product there.

Gabby: There was a, a crawl, and there was also some resistance there.

Anne: Yep.

Gabby: That is a great example, but think about what happened, right?

So the MP3 hit, everyone went "oh my God, this is it.

This is the end."

And then, and that a whole group of people went, "no, no, no, no, no.

You can't play an MP3 in your car.

That will never happen."

[both laugh]

Gabby: Remember those days?

Anne: Yep, I do.

Gabby: It's all about what happens when you're on the road.

CD's are going to be fine.

We're going to be able to -- and what happened, all of a sudden one day, you could put an

MP3 in your car, via your phone.

Usually when I talk about resistance, right, it's a good thing.

"We're going to rail against, we're going to fight this out."

This is resistance against the tech, against the tide.

Don't be that person, no.

Anne: Exactly, exactly.

Gabby: That's a terrible idea.

Anne: Even in this battle, there, there's lots of good things happening with the evolution

of digital technology.

So it's not just online casting now.

Now we've got all sorts of other sites and casting sites that are coming up so that we

can level the playing field.

I don't think, Gabby, what we're saying is to not take a stand against things that

we don't feel are, are right.

And I think we should always fight for fair rates.

Gabby: Yes.

Anne: That doesn't mean that you should sit back and blame the industry and the pay-to-plays

or the online casting sites as being something that is taking away your income.

Gabby: No, and you are right.

Fighting for what's right and what's just and for fairness is a separate thing, though.

Anne: mm-hmm.

Gabby: This is minding your business.

Anne: Exactly.

Gabby: Your store, and really making sure that you are doing everything possible to

keep your business healthy during a not so healthy economy.

Those that are complaining and those that are a little bit too politically invested

are hurting.

Anne: mm-hmm.

Absolutely.

Gabby: The others are not.

They, they're doing just fine.

Anne: And it's not just this industry.

This happens in every industry.

It's every industry, and we have the most control.

This is the cool thing, Gabby, is that we as entrepreneurs, we owning our own business,

we have the capability to evolve and change easier than, than anyone.

I'm not restrained anymore by working for somebody else, and hoping they will evolve.

I'm going to tell you something.

I know, I have a good friend of mine who literally is looking to switch jobs because um he doesn't

feel that the products that this company is putting out there are, are evolving with the

times.

So the company is putting out products that probably in 10 to 15 years won't exist.

He just wants to get out.

Keep your eyes open, take a look at what is happening and educate yourself.

Gabby: Well, sure.

I have had to switch gears so many times in this business.

When I first got into it, radio imaging being such a huge part of my income back then, and

you know what, when, when everything took a dip, so did radio.

Radio's been doing poorly for a number of years now.

I had to really change strategies.

I had to really move away from that, even though it's still my first love.

I couldn't sit there and like beat the drum that no one was going to listen to.

Anne: Exactly.

Gabby: And I was like, "oh, hello, other avenues and other ventures."

Yeah.

Anne: Yes.

Gabby: I think this is, this is a really interesting episode because it's almost like a part two

to our episode about adaptability.

This is definitely apart of that.

They kind of go hand in hand, but the message and the thing that we really I think are trying

to get across with this episode is that the economy is going to ebb and flow.

It -- that's inevitable.

It's going to happen.

Anne: Yep.

If you look at the history of the economy over the years, this is what happens.

And so you have to, as a business, ebb and flow with it.

Gabby: Yeah, you can't just sit back, and blame it, and allow this, this idea, this,

this very, I don't know, almost mythical like idea of the economy --

[both laugh]

Gabby: -- take over your brain --

Anne: Exactly.

Gabby: -- and become a reason to stop growing and to stop adapting.

Anne: Yeah, you are in control.

It is the number one thing to remember.

You are the entrepreneur.

You are in control.

It is up to you to change and evolve.

And you are in no better position than you are today to take a look, and assess, and

move along with it, because we have every capability within our own power to do it.

Go ahead and be a boss.

Be a boss and evolve.

Gabby: And take a cue from traditional industry as well.

In many corporate settings, when an industry starts doing poorly, instead of uh members

of that industry to various companies dividing, they do quite the opposite.

They band together, and they create collectives and little coalitions and that is one of the

ways that they evolve together to ensure everyone's survival.

Anne: I'd like to give a shout out to our amazing sponsor, ipDTL.

[laughs]

Gabby: We -- [laughs]

Anne: Just, just ask me the question again, and I'll agree.

[10] Gabby: [in funny voice] Hi!

My name's Gabby…and I'm a BOSS.

[11] Anne: And now we're going to have to take

a break because Anne has to go make sure that she pressed record.

Gabby: Oh dear crap, OK.

[12] Anne: See, we're so alike.

Gabby: [long sigh]

Anne: This is why you're my VO boss bestie.

Gabby: You are the yin to my yang, baby.

Anne: That's it.

It's the truth.

[13] Gabby: Uh it definitely looks weapons-grade

if it's coming in on an xray scanner.

[dog barking] Hold on.

[calling to dog] Stop!

What is the problem?

Shut up! [laughs] [bleep] animals.

[14] Gabby: [nonsense sounds]

[15] Gabby: Where is Juana?

Anne: Juana!

Gabby: Where is Juana?

Anne: Where is Juana?

Gabby: Juana.

Juana.

Anne: Juana.

Gabby: We're, we're waiting on Juana.

Anne: Juana, I need Juana.

[16] Can I do the, can I do the intro like we always

do?

Welcome to the VO BOSS podcast!

Woo-hoo!

All right, wait, I'll be serious.

[17] Gabby: The time episode, "are you working

around the clock and why?

The good, the bad, and the guilty."

We'll safeguard each other's hypocrisy.

Anne: There you go.

Gabby: That's ok. [laughs]

[18] Anne: [laughs] I'm ready, I'm ready for your

name, Simone.

Gabby: Kick it off.

Anne: All right, here we go.
