Youtube daily Aug 10 2018

Hello everyone!

For today's video on our Back to School season series, we will be covering general

tips of language learning.

Language learning is a type of learning that benefits from intensive bursts of incremental

learning.

Staying in contact with the language you are learning is fundamental and the more consistent

you are with that contact, the better.

Using multiple sources to conduct your learning process is particularly relevant, as you should

focus on improving speaking, writing, reading and listening skills as regularly as you can.

One of the quickest ways to get into the habit of incorporating language learning into your

daily routine is taking short quizzes every day to build up on your knowledge.

If you want a fast and free way to do this, all you have to do is install Duolingo on

your phone.

If you have followed me for a while, you know I have been praising Duolingo for years as

one of the best free online tools to learn languages.

They are partnering with me today to tell you more about Duolingo Events and Duolingo

Stories, two incredible tools that you can use to develop your skills.

Duolingo is an app that lets you test your language skills on a tree format.

You play various levels that test you on vocabulary, speaking and listening skills.

You increase the learned number of words each level and as you play, you also revise past

words and expressions.

You can then complement this type of learning with Duolingo stories, which are sets of mini-stories

that challenge your reading and listening comprehension.

As you complete the stories, new sets are unlocked as you build up on your fluency.

If you want to explore your language learning even further, you can attend one of the hundreds

of Duolingo events.

These are events or conferences focused on certain languages and are held all over the

world.

You can meet people like you who are focusing on learning one language and as you do so,

you can explore your language learning even further.

To know more about all of this, you can find tons of information about Duolingo in the

description box below.

I find that I get the most out of language learning when I combine multiple sources to

build up my knowledge.

For instance, I used to listen to language audiobooks when I used to take long rides

to Law School.

I also rely on a couple of textbooks with reading and writing exercises and I like to

keep a few short stories on my iPad and read at least a couple of paragraphs daily so I

can stay on track.

Building habits is key to mastering your language skills.

Saving at least half an hour daily to go through the things you have been learning is fundamental

to make sure you keep on track.

Of course that you can make this slot of time more fun by watching movies or videos in the

foreign language you are learning, reading short stories or practicing with a friend.

The trick is to keep contact with that language every day so you can almost unconsciously

start to use it in your daily life.

It's also important to focus on vocabulary you will actually use instead of memorizing

word lists in your textbooks.

By focusing on words that interest you because they are applied in your daily life, you form

an intellectual and emotional connection with the learning process and end up remembering

those words much better.

Although this is debatable and depends on who you ask, I believe that waiting until

you get perfect at a language before speaking it is a mistake.

Some learners such as Benny Lewis from Fluent in 3 months share that they aim to make tons

of mistakes when speaking and they speak from the first day they start learning a new language.

Using some basic vocabulary and grammar with confidence is more beneficial to the process

than hesitating and end up producing a complex sentence after investing in that language

for some months.

In fact, speaking from day one allows them to use other sources, like grammar and vocabulary

books to improve their speaking and not to allow them to speak.

It's also a mistake to think that you need to go to language school to learn a language.

Although attending group classes can be beneficial to some, they can certainly hinder the learning

pace of other people.

The choice of taking classes or not depends on your budget, your time availability and

also your self-discipline.

The choice of having a teacher who speaks the foreign language also depends on whether

you are currently immersed in that language or not, or whether you have a friend, a partner

or an acquaintance with whom you can speak in that foreign language.

For me, I benefited from taking a few classes when I started learning German because I had

absolutely no contact with that language so having a German teacher and listening to him

speak and also being forced to speak in class helped me past that first language barrier.

I am now able to study German at home, although I also admit it's far more difficult to

do just because of your own self-discipline when learning a language.

Learning more than one language at a time can also be a huge mistake for some people.

If you find yourself consistently confusing grammar rules and vocabulary between two or

more languages you are learning, perhaps you should avoid thinning yourself out and instead

giving the deserved attention to each language until you feel comfortable to start learning

another one.

Language learners usually recommend jumping to another language only when you reach an

intermediate or higher level in your current language.

For an easier jump, opting for a language from the same language tree makes the process

far more undemanding .

This was the fourth video on my Back to School series and, just like I did last year, I will

Melania Trump Is Everything Trump Claims To Hate About Immigrants - Duration: 4:33.

Yesterday, Melania Trump, the First Lady of the United States, Melania Trump, her parents

officially became U.S. citizens.

They were sworn in, they are now citizens of the United States.

When this story broke, who cares if they became citizens?

Good for them, right?

I mean, I personally, it doesn't affect my life one way or another if they become citizens,

I'm happy for them.

A lot of people immediately pointed out that the reason her parents were able to become

citizens is because of chain migration.

Then, and I wish I would have saved the person's name who posted this story on Twitter in response

to the Melania's parents get citizenship story.

It's this, Donald Trump's wife, Melania Trump, worked illegally during her first weeks in

the U.S. according to official documents.

Now, they actually posted a link to the story that was from Fox News from November 5th 2016.

November 5th 2016, Fox News, which was the AP report but they still reposted it.

Fox News even reported that Melania Trump worked for 10 weeks in the United States or

excuse me work 10 modeling job over the course of several weeks while she was first in the

United States illegally making more than $20,000 off those jobs, even though she wasn't legally

allowed to work in the United States as an immigrant at that time.

So there is that story.

We have chain migration which Donald Trump says must come to an end, we have an immigrant

coming over to the United States and working illegally which Donald Trump says has to end.

Then of course let's not forget little Barron Trump who is technically an anchor baby from

Melania Trump.

Three things there, Melania Trump embodies everything that Donald claims to hate about

immigrants and immigration.

Now, I have no problem with Melania Trump coming over here and working and becoming

a U.S. citizens.

I as citizen, I have no problem with other parents becoming citizens, I have no problem

with Barron being a U.S. citizen or even if he is an anchor baby.

I don't have a problem with those things because I'm not a horrible human being.

I say if somebody is qualified and they legitimately want to come to the United States and work

hard and pursue what we claim to be the American dream, let them in.

That is my policy.

It's not an open borders policy, we need to have smart immigration but we also don't need

to just put up a wall and say, "Nobody is allowed in.

No, people should be able to come into this country if they truly want to, and if they're

not going to come over here and kill people," which is actually very rare.

Melania Trump has done every single thing that Donald Trump claims that immigrants do

in order to become citizens here in the United States.

She is everything that he hates, so why did he choose to marry this woman?

Well, she was a model, that's the main reason but more importantly she's white, she's not

a brown or black person coming into the United States because if she were, Donald Trump would

be on Twitter every single day attacking her for the way that her and her family have become

United States citizens because again, that's what this whole thing is about.

It's not actually about immigration, it's about race.

Everything with this man comes back to race because if he truly wanted to do something

about immigrants coming into this country and taking advantage of our systems he would

be deporting his own wife.

Hell, under a new rule that his own administration is working on, Melania is technically eligible

to be stripped of her citizenship and deported because of the fact that she worked illegally

in the United States.

That is actually one of the criteria that Stephen Miller is helping Donald Trump work

on to strip actual legal citizens of their citizenship so they can be deported.

I don't know, maybe Melania needs to watch out for what her husband and Steve Miller

are actually doing.

Because yes, according to their own new rules that they are drafting she would be eligible

for deportation but she doesn't look like the kind of people those two are trying to

kick out of this country, so she's probably safe.

Black Widow | Marvel Becoming - Duration: 2:22.

Hello, my name is Amanda Rose, AKA Romanova, and today I'm becoming Black Widow.

In my life, I've always looked up to stronger women.

It was in 2013, that I first dressed up as her for Halloween.

A bunch of people were like, "woah you look like her" and I had just lost like 36 pounds

so it's a big compliment to me because it really makes you feel good about yourself

to be compared to somebody you look up to.

This costume for Infinity War is more difficult in creation and prop-wise

than any other costume that she's had to date.

Typically, I will start with patterning. I took a base vest pattern and altered and changed it.

And the suit was a first for me, I actually took a suit that I had put together

and tore it apart in the way that I wanted it to be, and then drew the pattern after that.

She has an insane amount of accessories. She has these crazy sticks, tasers, lights, and she has armor now.

Some of it's 3D printed and I never realized, because this is my first time using 3D printed props,

how difficult it can be sometimes to assemble.

The sticks for Widow were insane to assemble and they were,

like, I screwed them in but they still needed support after that.

Oh my gosh they are fragile! These will not be used for Black Widow action.

So the cosplay community is really great, especially banding together.

I arrived here and literally somebody else who's part of Marvel Becoming,

was able to come and help me with a last minute prop that I needed to get done.

To me that shows more how genuine some of the prop makers and costume makers are out there.

I am so excited to share this.

I can't wait for my Black Widow community that I'm a part of to see and know what I've been up to.

The cool thing about DragonCon is you see all of these amazing costumes.

I know that the work I put in will show there, you know, to the friends and peers that I meet.

Surprise! This is what I've been working on!

7 MANDELA EFFECTS that are Driving People Crazy in 2018! [PART 2] - Duration: 22:31.

historic events that change or never even happen

certain people being different than they are now

what about human body parts

maybe objects you've remembered have changed

well let's see if we can find out as we revisit the Mandela effect

we're your hosts I'm Ben

and I'm Rob

before starting make sure you hit like and subscribe

because these new Mandela effects is gonna blow your mind

so after getting a ton of feedback

and seeing how popular our first Mandela effect video is doing

we decided to make another one for you guys

in our first video we covered more things related to like pop culture

and in this one we're gonna cover more worldly examples that are guaranteed to make you question our reality

and if it doesn't well then you might as well get your news straight from Wikipedia

they won't tell you how many thousands and millions of people are confused and have personal stories

they will just tell you that all of this is a sham without going into details or data

Sham, you mean like Shazam you know it's Sinbad

yes Ben that was a Mandela effect in our first video well done

by the way that video going around where it shows Sinbad as a genie is a wicked fake

it was created by CollegeHumor to confuse us even more

you can tell because he's way older in that video

but alright let's go right into our number one on the list which is moon landings

so I don't know about you guys but I mean I only remember one moon landing

and got really confused to hear about how many times he went to the moon

we also have been getting a lot of comments about this as well from you guys

so there has been a total of six moon landings not even counting Apollo 13

with 24 people who had visited the moon

one of our followers arabesque 911 sent this video with neil degrasse tyson

well yeah in the video Tyson is talking about only one moon landing

and how he never went back

and had I known that our first steps on the moon would essentially be our last steps on the moon

I would have I would have done somersaults

what is that oh my gosh

this is a unique moment in the history of our species never to happen again

let me revel and celebrate and pop champagne corks

I would love to get him on the show and ask him his opinion about this as well

yeah the day Tyson agrees to come on our show

is the day that the earth really does become a flat pancake

so you know I was taught in school that we've never been back

so I was very confused by this one but really what does this all mean

does this mean it could discredit everything Tyson says

if he's saying he's only remembering one moon landing

I mean he would for sure discredit the Mandela effect

right

and him and Bill Nye would like tag team that junk you know

right yeah

so do you guys remember 1 or 6 moon landings

comment below we know you just can't resist just do it

this is the weirdest one for me for sure

maybe of the entire Mandela effect examples we've had

this is pretty pretty a pretty big

ok so the big question is

did Publishers Clearing House have a spokesperson and if they did who was it

now you guys born in the 90s or later you guys wouldn't know this but

yeah they probably don't even know who publishes clearing out is

yeah probably not so go ask your parents

okay so I called my mom and I said mom who was the spokesperson for publishing Clearing House

and without even missing a beat she just said oh yeah Ed McMahon

right so most of us remember Ed McMahon walking up to the front doors of people

getting all excited as they see him because they know what it means

he's gonna have a big check with publisher Clearing House written all over it

but according to Publishers Clearing House they never hired McMahon ever

this is where it gets super super weird

I mean everyone knows him having the humongous checks and it's like it's just crazy

so yeah you called your mom I asked my sister-in-law Gillian shoutout to you

what she thought and she was like oh yeah Ed McMahon Publishers Clearing House

same thing right just like that

so the really crazy thing is that according to a book the new New Deal

the former Obama chief of staff rahm emanuel even referenced mcmahon in a speech he gave

which he said that

a stimulus bill is denying ourselves an Ed McMahon moment

The Grateful squeal of Publishers Clearing House pleasure that would greet an envelope arriving from Obama

boom

to make things even more crazy in the 90s David Letterman had host Carson on his show

Carson references Ed while holding a large check

play it

okay well I'm here I happen to be in town doing some stuff for the NBC affiliates

and you know Ed McMahon our good friend

but Ed McMahon our good friend could not be here

but it seems David that you are the $1,000,000 winner.

Oh my god! I've won a million bucks!

try to disprove this one Snopes

man dude I remember this so clearly

'cause aside from you know Johnny Carson joking about this

I used to remember my parents getting like weekly mailers to the house

and I used to always stare at the illustration of Ed McMahon on the mailer in the upper right hand corner

yeah

so according to Publishers Clearing House they have never ever hired any person as a spokesperson

I'm not getting over this one this is weird

feeling as it's right up there with moon raker for me

it's super weird

okay so out of all of the Mandela effects on our list I would say for sure this one is the strangest

because there are already so many conspiracies revolving around this

the JFK assassination

so the big question is for you guys who already don't know about this one

do you guys remember four people in the car or six people in the car

so there are also discrepancies on where he was shot

some reports and diagrams say it was in the back

some say it was in the head

according to whistleblower William Cooper who wrote behold a pale horse

he said he decided to come out publicly after learning about what happened to JFK

and was then consequently killed in 2001 right after 9/11 happened

in the Zapruder film of the shooting, Cooper says that you can see the driver leaning over with the silver gun

shooting Kennedy

and then that Lee Harvey Oswald was just kind of like a patsy or a victim of mind control

so but in this video we don't dive into this conspiracy

because it's a huge massive like six part episode

we will however exactly go into this when we start talking about majestic 12

so make sure you keep an eye out for that video because that's pretty cool

okay but let's get back

was there four or six people in the car

the video shows six

however there is some evidence to support that this could be a Mandela effect

for one there are two cars

in the museum of the JFK Presidential Library

and the museum in Boston

and the doll Auto Museum in Lacrosse Wisconsin

that both have four seats but why would the museum only have four seats

another interesting fact is that there is a photo taken by Dwayne Robertson

which shows a four seater car

with only JFK and Jackie in the car and two people in the front seats

however it seems somehow in other photos

in the same sequence all of a sudden you see six

so is this some kind of residual effect or something

one really weird one that many people are pointing out

is that the inside spread of Life magazine at the time has a four seater car with flowers

right after the shooting happened

now this is where it gets a little weird

because I'm Getty Images they have this photo

and it states that it's the vice president's Johnson's car

Lyndon Baines Johnson

yeah Johnson so why would Life magazine publish this car if it's not Kennedy's car

and instead it's the vice president's. it's just it's just really weird

I mean yeah it could be fake news I mean look at CNN

Not a- not a real thing comes off a CNN these days but I digress

finally the other weird thing is the Secret Service did a reenactment of the assassination

and made a video of this which only shows four seats

here are some images from that reenactment

so Ben what do you think

you know honestly I'm not really sure on this one

because I don't know this

it's too loaded

yeah and and it's kind of like happened before my time

and I remember seeing the videos but if someone were to ask me

I probably- off the top of my head I would have said for

what do you guys think is this a Mandela effect or not

do you have more knowledge on the subject because we can't figure any of this out

and probably there's been a whole lot to this cover-up

right that is very sure

okay let's go to the big one

all right so some people say that even our bodies have changed along with this Mandela effect

such as our heart is more in the centre than it was before

our eyes sockets have gotten a little deeper

and some say they don't remember the bone behind them

okay like the eye sockets bones

yeah

okay yeah like it was just a hole in there there were no bones back there right

right that is a little weird to me actually that one

okay also some believe our liver has gotten bigger and higher up in the body along with our kidneys

but this one is hard to prove because it isn't like you open up your body and like... people?

but anyway to me these eyesockets ones are a little weird

because a few months ago I woke up one time and I was looking in the mirror

and I felt like my my like my eyes were deeper

like I'm they were coming over like

the the bones here we're protruding over more than usual

and I just thought oh I'm just getting old

Ben we're just getting old buddy

yeah

yeah nothing weird there

however soon I started noticing this with everybody else I was looking at it

so the heart one is a little weird because I mean I've always known it to be a little bit to the left

like slightly to the left I mean you know we put our hands over our hearts when we're

yeah

pledge of allegiance

but what people are saying now it's more over the center

unless you're a doctor who sees this stuff all the time

my perspective is as someone who kind of studied this a lot in art school

is that you know basically this is just people remembering stuff wrong

and having this impression

like I mean we all grew up putting our right hands over our heart

and it's not because it's on the left side of your body

it's because in the past, religions all decided

that if you wrote with your left hand they'd whack you

like my parents would get whacked if they rode their left hand you'd have to write with your right

you used your right hand for everything

you put your right hand over your heart and then you think your hearts on the left side

however an operation the game

Dude, operation?

it's like way over I mean it's like it's like

I mean, but it's like operation, man

I mean like you can't use operation as a Mandela effect

Get out of here. (buzzer noise)

Okay so- okay look,

personally personally just between you guys meet this heart one and the thing this is just nonsense to me

like I really do think some of these Mandela effects are real like,

freaking Ed McMahon or whatever

but the heart and this stuff, it's just- give me a break

actually if you're a doctor please comment below and let us know what you think

and you've been looking at Anatomy your whole life

and you probably know if these diagram's a sham, I mean, this is a tough one

but let us know what you think

yeah definitely

okay and now this is a newer Mandela effect and probably one that shocked me

almost as much as Ed McMahon if not more

yeah so you actually did get extremely excited on a live video once right

was it the Denver Airport one?

yeah it was the Denver Airport one

okay so I when I fly I always have to get the cheap seats right

so I kind of I'm always in the back of the plane right

and the back of the plane you sit there you look out the window you can't see anything

because there should be an engine right there right

you can only get like a partial view

well if you're in the middle to the back

yeah

where the wing is right

almost every single time I did

yeah yeah yeah you know I've never really sit in the beginning of the plane

when we were going to contact in the desert

this is the first time it hit me and it just blew me away

that all of the engines I was seeing was in the front of the wing

I remember that plane trip and Ben just kept looking over going:

Dude! Dude! the engines in a different place

And I was like, Alright man, it's a 5 hour flight here

but it was just like so shocking to me I look out the window and I'm like what the heck

then we're getting off of the plane and Ben's like where's the pilot

he walks up to the pilot he's like

Have the engines always been like that?

And the pilot's just like, yeah I think so

I even talked to my dad and he's like oh yeah well maybe they updated it recently you know or whatever

and in all fairness we're joking around about this

but personally I do remember those engines being flush with the wing

you know, not in front of it but like or if it was it was just a little

yeah but now they're like way in front, right

so I mean I'm a professional photographer and I worked as a photo editor

I have tons of photos that I took of planes and we'll show some

but these are not that great they were just for like small news pieces or whatever

but seriously like these photos that I have these engines were not there

when I was taking the photos like I know for sure

yeah, because you were composing the shot based on that right

yeah so I'm like looking at it like I went back to my photos and

I was like oh my gosh like they've changed like seriously like this is not what I photographed

when I was looking at these

so one of our followers his name is a day in the life of Mike

he sent this to us after we did this

he said oMG here's one Ben you were talking about the airplane Mandela effect with the engines

I had a toy airplane that had the engines further back now there forward

man weird

thanks again Mike

yeah okay so moving on

so speaking of statues nothing is more weird for me than Rodin's the thinker

so before we go into this one think about how you remember that statue to be

this is a very famous statue

right I mean right did he have his fist open or closed

and was it on his head or was it under his chin

and what makes this so strange is that people are posing right now

in front with the wrong pose

right that doesn't make any sense

right so he has like hand open

he's like this now

yeah it's a very Rodin, funky weird thing like this right

I can't do it. He's like this-

but we all remember it-

everyone always remembers this

exactly, I have my glasses on

Or maybe this or something

and it was more like this but

but his fist is he had a closed fist

Did he?

Yeah, oh yeah he definitely had a closed fist

personally I don't remember this one so I can't say for sure

it's not as sure for me as Ed McMahon was

you know to me it's like I remember looking at this thing and thinking he's really in a deep thought

now it looks like he's just like watching ants crawl on the floor

all right speaking of statues let's go into the next crazy one

so I came to New York in 2008 and was really shocked to hear

for one that statue was on Liberty Island and not Ellis Island which is what I learned in school

yeah my knee-jerk reaction when you asked me what Island it was on I was like Ellis

I mean, I thought it was

yeah yeah I mean I even so I came here with my parents

and we were all shocked to see it

for one it was like further away than what we remembered it like

before whenever I was seeing photos and it was like yeah it's really far out there

and then two you have to have like a passport to go out there now

and it seems like

it's like another country

it's so weird I mean you have to like go through this whole process to get there

and I'm like why it's just an island

but anyway yeah and the other crazy thing is

we were wanting to go in the torch and that day that we were there

I guess the whole Statue of Liberty was down

and then he was like oh yeah it's all repairs like you can't go to the torch

but what I didn't know is that the torch has been closed off for a hundred years

Whaaaat?

but however there's even people saying that they went up in the 80s and 90s in the torch section

but that would be impossible right

actually even the Simpsons had an episode where people were in the torch section

and there's evidence to show that it was closer to the harbor

and I remember seeing photos of people in that torch

dude I remember it so clearly

also like I mean we've looked at and saw comments from so many people being like

I was in the torch

I mean the torch is much different than the crown

and the other thing - so in Crocodile Dundee

during the scene where he's on a boat it shows the Statue of Liberty

it's very very close to Manhattan I mean of course the Twin Towers are there and whatnot

but they're saying if you do that same scene now

there's no way you can get

no matter what kind of lens you're using you cannot get the Statue of Liberty that close

so guys what do you think of these Mandela effects

let us know definitely if you remember the Statue of Liberty being on Ellis Island or Liberty Island

or the torch

yeah

if you visited the torch we want to hear from you

that's crazy

If you visited the torch, for sure let us know.

we kind of wanted to talk a little bit more about this

and tell you what our perspective is after researching all this stuff

what we think the Mandela effect is and also why people don't understand it

mm-hmm

and I'll tell you what

the comment I am most tired about looking at and it happens once every five minutes

someone coming on there and be like this is so dumb

this is just people not remembering

right but like it's not like that you can't just say that you can't just like yeah

if you're gonna look at this I mean everybody says that the first time

but don't just brush it off and not look into the accounts

or listen to people's stories

because some of these stories are weird and that's where the qualitative data comes in right

but there are certain ones that are just there's too much evidence

you have to look at that evidence and I think a lot of people aren't doing that

I think alot of people want to stay conveniently in their own little bubble

and use this conspiracy theory stick to hit people

which isn't cool I don't think we should do that

as a society I don't think we should do that I think it's good to look through these things

and of course you know it's not like we're being annoying about this

we're just trying to call it out

right exactly

so I started seriously thinking about this

I mean then we did a video on like CERN and quantum computers and whatnot

but one day I really started thinking about deja vu very seriously

yeah yeah

you know and that moment was so weird when I started thinking about deja vu

I just get this this comment from Stevens

asked us this exact question at the moment where I was thinking about this deja vu

related to the Mandela effect

and I really really believe now that there is a direct correlation between deja vu and the Mandela effect

what I think is kind of happening and this is where it gets a little confusing

but I think from doing all the meditation that I do and everything and kind of everything

what we understand it it's like we understand that multiple dimensions exist

and it's possible that we exist in these other dimensions

something is happening in these other realms where like a timeline is either

collapsing or like getting destroyed or something and I believe that what's

happening is that with deja vu it's kind of like the past present in the future

kind of converged with our timeline and what we're remembering may actually be

remnants of memories from another path another timeline that's like collapsing

and then it comes over here to kind of save what's going on or vice versa maybe

even something happened this timeline and it's like being

brought over into another time language I mean if you're looking at it from that

perspective it's like there's these positive changes that are really

happening it's like football or Illuminati or whatever you wanna say

supposed to take over by this point right that was a whole plan after 2012

they're gonna take over everything so there is something going on

potentially as well you're saying yes this is a theory oh yeah yeah I think

that someone is definitely messing with our timeline my theory is that these

knuckleheads that got ahold of whatever it is are trying to change some serious

stuff they don't understand why they can't change history the way they wanted

to right they're trying yeah yeah exactly and that that's and that's we

kind of go into that in our time travel video because I explained it because

really I think it's quite impossible to really truly change too much because

everything's already done and I think if anything does get changed there's

definitely a higher power looking over everything right there's a balancing

universe they're constantly ms/s and they don't understand and a people that

are the bad people only better tech trying to take advantage of science not

the good people don't actually believe that there are higher powers at work you

can't just say oh I have no evidence they don't exist and just say blanket

they don't exist like that's how science operates right right exactly

I don't believe something until I see it and it's not a healthy way of exact how

are you gonna make improvements no matter what something big is happening

in our world and our universe I think that's it yeah pretty much wraps up this

episode yeah you guys want out there probably like whoa what are these guys

on it looks like they're talking about like something on chronic or now we're

not I don't actually we don't do the drugs we stay off of them meditate

anyway guys let us know what you think about these Mandela effect examples

we're actually gonna do another episode on Mandela effect examples is gonna get

a little bit wild yeah yeah that that one will just be like more going through

all different stuffs all kinds of stuff so hang on to your seats we'll be going

there soon and until next time we'll see you guys out on the edge

Interview with Jason from Nomad Travel Hacker | "I've created a life around points & miles" - Duration: 24:14.

Hey, it's Ernest from Trip Astute. In this video, we're interviewing Jason from

Nomad Travel Hacker. A digital nomad with lots of experience traveling the world

using points and miles.

(light chiming music)

Jason is a fellow credit card and travel content creator

and also a great guy with a wealth of knowledge. He has some really interesting

videos on how to use points and miles to travel the world as a digital nomad, and

his format is definitely unique compared to what you'll see on many other similar

channels. For those of you who don't know what a "digital nomad" is, it's basically

someone whose lifestyle revolves around working remotely while traveling and is

not constrained by a physical office or location. It's actually a trend that's

really been growing and is especially popular with millennials who want more

flexibility and satisfaction in their life and career. In fact, countries are

even starting to invest in infrastructure and resources to help

attract digital nomads to their country. I hope you enjoy this interview with

Jason. If you're someone who is curious about or even considering becoming a

digital nomad, I think you'll find that Jason is a great resource on the subject.

Thanks Jason for making the time today to the chat I know you're super busy and

I think right now you're in Lisbon if I'm not not mistaken so super cool they

were making time to meet up and collaborate I'm really happy to have you

on the channel yeah thanks earnest thanks for having me on appreciate it

big fan of your channel and yes I am in Lisbon Portugal right now cool so I

guess before we get started I know that you have a channel that's really focused

on points amaz but also the whole digital nomadic lifestyle so wanted to

learn more about you just if you could give me just a quick background as to

who you are where you're from kind of how you got started

sure I'm so kind of the elevator speech is of I was in a lot of debt in the u.s.

I had like $80,000 worth of student loan debt and at that time I ended up selling

my house hanging off all my student loans and I've worked in like digital

marketing and basically just on my laptop for a decade now so I'd always

wanted to just work for myself as well as

so I decided to do all three of those at the same time sold my house in Colorado

started two of my own businesses and started traveling right about May of

last year April May something like that and I've

been on the road pretty much since then and yeah you know doing the the digital

nomad thing I've been to I don't know 14 15 countries something like that since

then and just awesome searching the globe for for good Wi-Fi since then yeah

I know that's always a challenge right it's just finding the right connection

especially with this type of work we're kind of produce videos and trying to get

them out it's it's a challenge very yeah on top of just finding good Wi-Fi now

finding a good place to film and good light and it's always changing so

there's always something that's not quite perfect but that's part of the fun

of it yeah I bet no I must be challenging now I know we talked about a

little bit earlier about we have a little bit of overlap in terms of our

channels because we talked about points and miles but you have a very kind of

unique aspect to your channel can you talk a little more about that

sure so I've kind of created a life around points and miles so just doing

the digital Nomad thing I think if it wasn't for points in miles like I would

still be doing this right now but it would be like considerably limited so

yeah just do it like I have like my business expenses and my life expenses

and everything and you know I'm using the credit card for all of them so I'm

able to rack up probably more miles than some people and just maximize them and

then being able to use them like I've been able to like pay my rent so to

speak on Airbnb by like redeeming you know miles and the fact that like you

know I can essentially fly everywhere for pretty close to free if not you know

totally free so I'm able to change countries and continents a lot more than

I could if you know I didn't have that ability so I've you know kind of I've

been able to really like push this digital Nomad thing further then I

probably could have before just to the fact that you know essentially like on

Monday I'm gonna be traveling to Dubai United Arab

it's and then on to Bali and you know I'm able to like a dance and additional

stops in countries just because I can use my points and miles to do that

rather than you know really looking for like the cheapest flight and whatever it

takes you know I'm able to I guess kind of do some extra cool stuff just due to

the fact that it's free or you know 95 percent off or something like that yeah

it's awesome I mean I think a lot of people don't realize like how much you

can actually do when you have points in miles like I always think of it as not

just in the neighborhood for travel but also just almost like an insurance

policy for me and then if I ever need to go somewhere I have the points to do it

and I can quickly book something and I've had situations where I've been in

really bad hotels and be like uh I don't like this I'm gonna go somewhere else

and I just been able to book using my points which is really an awesome thing

yeah absolutely you know it's kind of like something I always have in the back

of my head yeah you know something happens to my family or there's an

emergency and I need to get back to the US and I'm in Southeast Asia or

something I know that I've got points two miles to get me back there ASAP and

I don't have to worry about the insane cost that it would be to take the next

day flight no I've got that in my back pocket I could figure down the name how

you know PI not the best redemption you know I've always i'm keeping those there

and like i'll never let my balance get too low because i've always got you know

my go home free card in my back pocket absolutely so kind of a piggyback on

that question what do you see is the differentiator between your channel and

other channels yeah definitely the digital nomad thing and like i kind of

used like that hacker mentality to where i'm always looking for the hidden stuff

the good stuff that you know the the big blogs like the points guy and people

can't really talk about as much because they're you know really affiliated with

credit cards and i'm not affiliated with them and they probably don't like a lot

of the information that I'm sharing because it's it's more that stuff that a

lot of people when you find something really good you don't share it and

people worried about that disappearing but you know I take a different approach

because whenever there is you know something

really good out like I just found a way to get around you know the chase 5:24

and chase is gonna figure it out they're gonna shut it down soon enough so I want

as many people as possible to enjoy it because they're gonna find out one way

or another they're gonna close the loophole but then another one you did

the the the cat-and-mouse game goes on forever so I just like to share whatever

you know good really the good stuff that I can find out there like increase sign

up offers that you know maybe show people how to find you know increase

sign up offers for certain cards and sometimes little tricks you can do and

they don't work for everyone but I can help anyone else do that you know that's

what I really love that's kind of like my passion is finding that stuff that

maybe the the person who isn't you know as experienced in the stuff maybe they

wouldn't be able to find so I just really like you know those little like

tidbits and stuff that's kind of what I'm all about

you know it makes sense I feel like your stuff is very tactical and very usable

you know what I mean like I think a lot of the shadows including mine at times a

little bit high level we're not digging it as deep and you get really tactical

and really get in there so I think that's really helpful for a lot of

people yeah thanks cool but you can also get yourself into trouble there because

a lot of times they dry out one day you know sure enough some Oh to let me know

they don't know the longest shelf life but when I find something really good I

just like to share it no I totally and I think you find experiences to where like

the rules change all the time so what works like one day and what seems to be

kind of the general norm changes the next day and it's crazy it's all I guess

it's part of the game right yes it is so getting into more of a travel stuff like

what are your top three travel items and you know tools or gear so my pixel two

is my new favorite toy of all time it's really incredible and you know as

someone that's you know traveling full time I don't use like camera here so I

use like right now I'm using my webcam and then now I was using my old Nexus 6p

which did have 4k video and it was good but the

- the video is next-level and it's got amazing stabilization so I'm a huge fan

of that I'm able to actually take some videos on the fly and have some video

that's actually useful which is great because I do have a stable as a

stabilizer for my for my phone which in my second favorite thing but I don't

take that with me all the time and you know when you're out having fun

somewhere you're out at the beach you know I don't like to carry around all

this stuff with me all the time so yeah if I can't do that just having the pixel

is great and then my third favorite thing is definitely my laptop backpack

from Timbuktu so they make some really really cool stuff and I love this

because if I'm going to like a business meeting or something I can make it look

professional and I can like strap it over my shoulder and I'm so good because

while it's a little bit bigger than most carry-on bags usually if you put it over

your shoulder so to speak you're able to get by with that and no one has ever

questioned me about it but if I'm wearing it as a backpack which is how I

like to use it more practically when I go into a co-working space or something

like that and you know I usually have another backpack so I carry like one big

suitcase that I usually check and then I carry like a bigger backpack and then

I'm also like that this was my third one so being able to use that on my shoulder

I'm able to get away that as my personal I don't even though look it's a little

bit bigger than it should be it's a little bit heavier so that's kind of

like one of my secret hats they give them to carry around all this stuff with

me now it's a challenge I know I feel like I keep accumulating more gear to

carry everywhere and it's like I feel like I'm becoming more heavier than

light and I think that's it's a challenge it's a struggle everything

when we go anywhere I'm lugging more equipment and it's it's yeah it's funny

so most people that travel long term end up minimizing and I've yeah I'm back

some more stuff now I'm traveling with a green screen I have like a Yeti blue mic

which is like silly heavy to carry around I've got a stabilizer now and I

went got some additional clothes and stuff I didn't really have

for because I was thoroughly I was Columbia earlier this year and it was a

bit cold when I got there so I needed to have you know some clothes that would

you know suit that attire instead of - I am beach lifestyle which is usually the

kind of places I go to so I could just you know a little more choice but then

have another have had some extra clothes on me and stuff this year so I'm curing

a lot more than I took last year actually we should have smartphones

stable entities um so yeah I've got it right here

think it's like sigh oh yeah yeah oh yeah the Zune smooth it is right yeah

those are really popular I've I've only tried the eg I'm also mobile too but

I've heard really good things about this do you yeah I watched your video on that

actually yeah it didn't work out for me because I think it's more I think an

issue with the iPhone I think the iPhone has that uh-oh is that you can't turn

off and so what ends up happening is that like the OAS the phone basically

interferes with the the actual Kimble itself and then you get that weird gesso

but yeah the Kimble stuff is really cool actually I'm thinking about getting a

gimbal now for my my DSLR just cuz I think it'd be really cool to get more

cinematic shots and I really want to start playing and learning how to do

better video but yeah it's also one of the things to where I struggle with like

carrying too much gear and I worried that it's just one more thing I've to

carry and really sick people I want to take it absolutely

it's its own struggle you know how it is so definitely yeah I found out one cool

new feature that I want to try out but I didn't even know I could do but

basically I can take this mobile gimbal and like it lays flat and then I can use

basically I mean you need to have us like a second phone to do it what you do

and you can basically just use it as a remote control and get it to like move

so like it's on a flat service and it's super stable but like I started testing

and it looks really cool and really professional and that's also be

incredible what you can do with the phone these days I know it's amazing

right I mean honestly like my phone is like my backup camera for and actually

ends up being my primary camera a lot of times if I don't have my DSLR with me

and it's amazing that it's able to capture 4k footage like there's a lot of

even consumer or professional great equipment nowadays it doesn't even

capture 4k at 60 frames per second my phone can do it which is amazing yeah

exactly that's why I just use that because it's good enough for me you know

my videos are not like it's creative versus professional is like you or like

you a lot more going for like rip right to the nitty-gritty you know I'm using

my green screens I never know what kind of a back month and a half where I'm

living or getting to play and you know just using PowerPoint so it kind of just

like get to the point information based my videos are more like you don't even

need to watch and you can just kind of play in the background and listen as a

lot of my viewers have told me that they just kind of listen to him in the

background a little working or doing something else which is kind of like

what up or so I try to add in some you know some snaps here every 30 seconds to

a minute to try to make them interesting if you are watching but they're really

more information based and I'm not really doing for the super creative and

because I'm not really a filmmaker I my videos are pretty simple and well I

think they're really cool though I mean the whole green-screen thing that you

were doing is very cool and I love the fact that you're mixing it up now you're

doing some like blocking style videos which is really cool and I think you

should give yourself more credit because like I have the luxury of just using a

control studio and things are always the same it's a lot easier but you're mixing

it up you're always in different locations different connectivity you

know all that stuff and I think it's a it's pretty awesome that you're doing

all that stuff cool thanks man yeah no worries so any

favorite travel experiences or destinations yeah definitely so I'm

actually headed back there shortly but um

Changu bali my favorite place so far yeah three months there last year I

hadn't intended on being there but for maybe like a month last year and I got

there and dude I was like this is where I need to be in the world right now it

was kind of like an up-and-coming place I've heard it's really like

changed a lot in the last year and it's kind of a hot spot in Bali now so don't

go there it's just love trendy cafes and lots of places with good Wi-Fi there's

some really amazing co-working spaces a lot of like you know digital nomads

there I usually try to go places but there's you know lots of like you know

digital workers and starters unity and you know poly in general inches it's got

an energy like you know where I've ever been it's just such a cool place so

really excited to go back I think a lot of people that I know who are doing the

digital nomadic lifestyle have been working from like the Philippines but it

sounds like Bali is becoming like the new Philippines right in terms of like

work space and that whole lifestyle yeah I think one of the issues with Bali

before is just the internet was so bad up until working space opened and now

like they have that market now that they're building places that are new and

that have like better internet I just heard a really you know like five years

ago it was pretty much unworkable there but now there's places with faster

internet that I have you know my house in Lisbon that's awesome that are pretty

easy to get to so I think that's definitely helped a lot and just the new

trend of co-working spaces which is just great in general for online

entrepreneurs you know like myself because working from home all the time

gets pretty boring sometimes and it's nice to have people that know all my

nerdy tech stuff and can understand all the terms I'm talking about or the other

constant cleaners that are we're in a pretty small minority here yeah I talked

to other people doing the same thing and then understand your struggles and that

kind of stuff it's really cool in it you know really makes you feel like you're

not you know out there on their own well I think your deafening because I know

that I was just seeing I just was watching it a day that they had this

article about how Millennials are queen their job traveling and basically it's a

new thing is trying to adapt your work with your travel and being able to do

both at the same time and I think like people like you are kind on the

forefront of that and you'll be able to share information and that stuff is very

relevant I think to a lot of folks who are thinking about it or actually make

the plunge I think just the workforce in general is going more remote you just do

it like the costs of having an office now and like you're in LA so I'm sure

it's only like at least five thousand a month or you know a company to have

dolphins yeah and if you're all just working on your computers like you

really need it you know and yeah there is now having more of

these like shared offices to where you can just kind of rent them and using

them for when you need that to have a meeting with a client or when you need

to you know get the whole team together in one room so instead of having to pay

you know that huge amount of money and then you spend an hour if you're not

maybe three hours of traffic it's just like not as good of a lifestyle and like

we're here you know I'm in Lisbon you're in LA and we're chatting over the phone

so the fact that you know Skype and all these other video services have really

like close that gap so much thinking that really helped the digital world and

there's all these new different tools that people use to keep in touch like

slack is very popular and just all these different things tour it doesn't really

matter where you are as much because everything is just also online based I

think to really help to kind of close the gap and a lot of people are just

they're working on lifestyle businesses too or you know you know making as much

money as possible which is kind of been like the goal for a long time it's not

quite as important anymore and more or less you know having more

freedom I know I struggled with that as well cuz I since I left college has

always been about oh I need to have stability I need to be able to make an

income all that stuff was really important to me

and I feel like in the last couple years it's felt very empty as a goal it's felt

very under filling and being able to work on trips to and all this other

stuff has been a really good thing for me cuz I feel like it's really helped me

so better about what I'm doing find more purpose and and just adding

more value in like the times of spending at work obviously it's a lot of work to

put together videos and you know you know how long it takes but it's so

fulfilling when you produce something and it's tangible and someone can watch

it and actually benefit from so it's really cool stuff yeah

absolutely you know my my goal it was just in my head for like a decade I've

gotta pay off student loans kind of pale you know it's got to be this gotta be

that and then finally pay them all off and now I'm like okay I'm gonna work on

things that make me happy and then I'm passionate about honestly

I'm working even more than before you know while my Instagram might look like

I'm just you know sitting on the beach that's just picture and then I'm like

you know back on the grind so it's a kind of the digital nomad life there's a

lot more work than most people think it's not just sitting there making

passive income like you know it's kind of like advertised and a lot of people I

know or starting up they have startups and they're working

on several businesses and you know once you start hanging around co-working

spaces you meet new people and next thing you know you're working on three

or four things at a time which is so it's a lot of work but like it's a lot

it's a lot of fun - yeah and I think especially as an entrepreneur I think

that the equation changes with work like you're I think a lot people are just

used to giving up time for work and then getting paid for that but when you're an

entrepreneur it's a lot of it is just investing time a lot of effort and

things and not knowing whether you're actually gonna get back anything from it

but it's a lot of times just building that value and and whether it's even

skills or just something that you're working on some kind of asset that

you're building it's a different equation and I know I'm also adjusting

that as well like not I'm trying to do more freelance work now and it's it's a

different kind of mentality to say okay well I'm gonna work three hours on this

but I'm not gonna get paid for three hours of work but at least I'm gaining

something from it that's whether it's a skill or really something for the future

so um before it closes out anything that people should know about you that may

not be apparent from your channel any crazy like ninja skills or any crazy

hobbies or interests mm-hmm I don't know just from my film locations

I'm surfer you know I love to chase the waves and pretty locations and really go

off the beaten paths like you know Colombia Nicaragua

a lot of places that a lot of people don't even wanna go so I like really

kind of like untouched places which definitely makes it more challenging to

work from but I really enjoy that kind of stuff and I've been do a lot of you

know more modern places and I don't know it just like somewhere like Bali like I

just kind of like that like different style of life that's like a bit more

relaxing and the people are is like stressed without work like here in

Portugal you know like I mean it's just like that European lifestyle like more

laid-back and you know things don't open as long I like the co-working spaces I'm

at closing like six o'clock and I'm like no I need to work five more hours we're

gonna go have some beers with friends you know so it's a good lessons to me to

like go out and enjoy life a bit I guess which I spend a lot of time in cool

locations but I don't get to see as much of Nezu like so I guess just like trying

to hang out in places like that help for my me you know to go enjoy life now

definitely it's really grounding when you meet people like that and it's a

good reminder that it's not just all about the work it's about enjoying your

life and really soaking in all the experiences so thanks you can I really

appreciate it for those of you who are not checked out Jason channel definite

get out he's got a really great channel on different aspects of the points of

miles game as well as the whole digital nomads lifestyle so definitely got his

channel when you get a chance thank you Jason for making it done yeah thanks

What Info Is Needed For A Video XML Sitemap? - Duration: 3:11.

Hi, I'm Bruce Clay, and this is the Ask Us Anything series. My partner and I operate

a video production company so naturally our site is full of video samples

showcasing our talents. I have been told that video XML sitemaps help the search

engines collect more data about the videos on my site. What information can I

put into a video XML sitemap and how does it help the search engines? It's a

pretty simple question: The first thing I'll do very quickly is say that there

is something which is an extended markup, which is your XML file. An XML file

causes a refreshing of items that are in one of the Google indexes. (It) doesn't cause

spidering, doesn't cause page rank transfer, doesn't cause anything special

other than for Google to update your particular content, your files for your

site. Now, the kinds of things you could put into a video XML sitemap, the

dominant one that we like is the pointer, of course, to the video and what we refer

to as the thumbnail. You can change the thumbnail for the video and it'll work

out great. You can do the same kind of stuff within YouTube and certainly I

would do that. One of the other things that you need to do in an XML sitemap is

you need to segregate it. So, if you have an XML sitemap that is for pages in an

XML sitemap that is for images, your video XML sitemap must be a separate

file of nothing but video XML entries. You cannot mix them together. According

to Google, it should work, but according to a great many people, it doesn't work

as well as you think it works, especially if you're burning through crawl budget,

you may not get your videos indexed. So, the first thing, make sure you use all

the parameters that are available for a video XML sitemap. Make sure you

actually have one, and make sure that you have the video as well marked up as you

can within your page. That's another item,

within your page you should feel free to actually have a transcript that is not

in an XML file. That is content within your page where you might actually embed

or play your video within your site. So, you want to get all these pages spidered,

so not just would you have a video XML sitemap, but you would also include an

XML sitemap pointing to the page that also plays the video. Hope that helps

An XML file causes a refreshing of one of the items that are in one of the Google indexes.

Separating your XML files between video, pages, images, etc., can help the search engines.

It's best to also include an XML sitemap that points to the page that plays the video.
