I think what's unique about being a PM (product manager) at Google Cloud is that

it takes the best of everything that Google has to offer,

in terms of tech, in terms of the culture,

but then it is in an extremely high-growth area.

When you work within an environment that's of that nature,

you're naturally exposed to what's next, and, you know, what's next after what's next.

As a product manager, that can be like being a kid in a candy shop.

I'm Aparna Sinha.

I'm a Product Manager in Google Cloud working on Kubernetes and Google Kubernetes Engine.

So I've worked at Google for five years, and I have indeed taken many different types of roles, and

I moved to Google to actually work in consumer technology.

I thought that consumer technology was so cool because

everybody you know uses these products.

Billions of people have Android phones, or billions of people are using Gmail.

So I wanted to work on something that had that kind of impact.

After working at Google I realized every Google service that you use runs on this global infrastructure

that is the same as the infrastructure that Google Cloud runs on.

What we're doing is we're bringing that innovation to the enterprise,

and we're harnessing that capability and building on it in a way that is consumable for enterprise users,

and it enables enterprises to leapfrog and change the way they work.

As a product manager, you're really the product owner.

You are the CEO of your product.

That encompasses quite a bit of weight and responsibility.

You're sort of the nexus of the product.

You are coordinating all of the outbound activity. You are designing and setting the strategy and vision,

as well as ensuring the execution of the product from the technical standpoint.

The other axis is cross-product.

That's where collaboration with other product managers is extremely important.

And I think product managers naturally are team builders,

and, you know, you develop a network that you are friends with, that you trust,

and you can get together with a team of engineers, and very quickly come up with a prototype.

Google is so much at the forefront of technology,

and the way that our culture is built, we are always looking for the 10x.

So when we look at the enterprise, and we look at the impact of Cloud, we're thinking about 10x.

How can we really transform this area?

The reason I'm a product manager is because

I believe that the power of products to change people's lives is incredible.

And then being at Google, I just have the sense that this is the place to do it.

The mission of the company is to impact billions of users

and democratize the internet, democratize the Cloud.

We believe the benefits of technology should apply to all, and that's a mission that really,

I think, for a product manager is very, very, inspiring.

when it comes to cable rails or wooden

guardrails they're all put there for a reason

either contractor such a Ceco either they're gonna put it up for something

that's coming up that they've got to close that out and then pour that back

in concrete whatever the case may be nobody's allowed without authorization

to take down somebody else's guardrails or cable rails they're there for

perimeter protection or fall protection so please be aware of that last when you

got talked to Mike with Ceco and we're talking about our $25.00 weekly

police stations we invited 19 we've made the mayor some city officials the police

department the fire department and we put out 80 flyers in the neighborhood

and then we're gonna put out some more flyers my team's coming back on Monday

to put another 80 flyres back out saying don't forget so then we have some

music outside we're gonna have pizza

we're gonna give away some raffle gift cards

and hopefully the whole purpose of it is to engage the community you let them

know what's going on here because as we build this beast there's

gonna be a lot more parking issues there may be some trash issues there may be

some noise issues but if they have our business cards we can direct all the

complaints to Jimmy

so I am the guy in charge of it all

so me and my team and

partnership with Harbert

have a awesome opportunity to build this unique

high-rise building in Birmingham Alabama

I think the personality between Harbert

and cortland partners is exceptional you know we just got lucky you know

because we both work so diligently on open communication and being transparent

and my problem is their problem and their problem is our problem

we have one ultimate goal and

we have to work together

hopefully we'll have a good turnout

have a lot of promise

there's Alex. Alex was sent to me as a carpenter

with the potential to turn him into an assistant superintendent

I've got him on

what I call the front line that's the front line where we're getting ready to

pour the next slab it's always the front line

we've got one more embed right here to put in he's already got that one on

this is for our stairs for the risers to weld their beams on there

for the stairs and we got one right here that it's in the metal so we can't

really nail that onto the plywood like we'd like to so we got this fiberglass

rebar that's going to go in there and soon as our Rodbuster moves out the

way we'll we'll get that put in that'll be our last one they can close this wall

we can pour it this afternoon

Elton is considered a full-time employee but he

is still in school and but what he wants to do is stay in this industry and he

wants to be a superintendent run work

ultimately

we kinda got a tie

generally where it goes or else you got up pull all this rebar part and stick it

in there and then nail it off so we got it tied generally where it goes now

we've got a nail it off

or we can't nail this one because there's aluminum behind it

so we get, where's that rebar? here it is

so we get this stuff it's fiberglass rebar and we'll stick it against that

plate so when their wall comes on it'll push our embed back to where it needs to go

falls have been deadly to construction workers for quite a long time

back in 2016

nine hundred ninety one construction workers lost their lives

on the job

out of those 370 were from Falls

that comes up to 37%

that's an awful high number

my name's Jerry I'm with a company called PureSafety we're the home of Guardian

and Web Devices fall protection we're a manufacturer right out of Houston Texas

rule of thumb that wants to hold up five thousand pounds lot of force put on the

body

when you're using a self-retracting device you want to pull out the cable

all the way

because it's a serious business

people wearing fall protection

today's our big opening that we've been waiting for for a couple weeks now

and we had thought a while back that we needed to engage the neighbors and what a

better way to you know have them over meet them have some giveaways Pizza some

drawings you know we didn't know if he was gonna show or not I mean

we had hoped that the neighbors were going to be interested in what we're doing here

and fortunately enough they were

we had a great turnout the weather turned out awesome

the news stations were here today

we have a huge fire department still here

so the turnout was great we had some neighbors that had

been wondering what this was going to be some thought it would be a hotel

but it was just really nice the neighborhood we had a good turnout they

wanted to know what was going up how tall the building was going to be

when it's gonna open

so it was a good time

very very pleased with it
