Typhoon Soulik takes aim at Korea this week - Duration: 2:05.

The Korean Peninsula is right in the crosshairs of Typhoon Soulik, which is forecast to make

a direct hit on Thursday from the southwest.

Right now it's packing winds of up to 155 kilometers an hour.

The time a last storm of such strength hit Korea in 2010, five people were killed.

Seo Eun-kyung has this report.

Korea is expected to be hit directly by a typhoon for the first time in six years starting

Wednesday.

The last typhoon that made landfall on the Korean peninsula was Sanba in 2012.

The 19th typhoon of the season, Soulik, is heading northwards after it was formed in

waters northwest off Guam's coast last week.

Although Soulik has been categorized to the equivalent of a category 2 hurricane, it stands

out from previous tropical storms as it features an enormous eye.

A typical cyclone eye is around a few dozen kilometers wide.

However, typhoon Soulik's eye is more than 100 kilometers wide, indicating that it would

take several days for the Korean peninsula to get out of the direct influence of the

storm.

"Typhoons usually can't pass over Korea when the North Pacific anticyclone surrounds the

peninsula.

Korea has been free from typhoons directly influencing the nation because the North Pacific

anticyclone has been rotating over the peninsula."

Korean authorities are on high alert and are bracing for potential damage.

Typhoon Soulik is forecast to be similar to Kompasu in 2010, which claimed five lives

and caused widespread damage in Seoul as well as mountainous and coastal areas.

The rare typhoon has been sweeping in towards southern Japan, and is now heading north nearing

Korea's Jeju Island.

Soulik is forecast to hit the city of Gwangju on Thursday afternoon and move towards Gangwon-do

province by Friday afternoon, bringing heavy rainfall and strong wind gusts.

According to Professor John Marzluff, of wildlife science at the University of Washington, a

crow is basically a flying monkey.

Why?

Because the brain of a crow can be compared to that of a primate.

The conclusion of the specialists is that a crow has the intelligence of a child of

7 years, which means that the crow is the most intelligent of the birds.

If you think that two crows look at you, and they are talk about you, you're probably right.

The specialists affirm that they have developed their own language and at certain moments

they sit side by side and communicate with each other, just like the people.

The scientific name of crow is Corvus brachyrhynchos.

It belongs to the family Covidae and to the genus Corvus.

The first crows appeared in Miocen, about 17 million years ago.

Crow can live up to 20 years old.

Unlike the vast majority of birds, the crows are not afraid of humans but have learned

to live near people, often taking advantage of them.

The sight of a dead crow tends to attract a mob of a hundred or more live crows.

During this ritual, the live crows almost never touch the dead body, which rules scavenging

out as a motive.

Why do they do this?

Some studies suggest that the mass gathering is part of a survival strategy: The birds

are learning about threats and seem hesitant to revisit any spot where they've encountered

a dead crow, even if food is plentiful there.

U.S., China to attempt revival of trade negotiations - Duration: 1:55.

The U.S. and China are set to revive trade negotiations that ended unsuccessfully in

June,... with a meeting in Washington on Wednesday, local time.

However, neither side is optimistic of making much progress.

Lee Seung-jae reports.

The world's two biggest economic powerhouses are set to take another stab at easing their

trade tensions,... as U.S. Treasury Under Secretary David Malpass will meet with his

Chinese counter Wang Shouwen in Washington on Wednesday.

The meeting will be the first between senior officials since June,... when talks between

U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and Vice Premier Liu He ended without an agreement.

According to U.S. and Chinese officials,... this week's talks will center on a list of

more than 140 specific demands,... which were originally drafted by the Trump administration

for the first round of trade talks in May.

This includes the U.S. wanting China to raise the value of its currency.

Sources say,... in a private discussion with U.S. counterparts,...

Chinese officials have indicated they would be willing to implement or discuss about two-thirds

of the demands.

However, neither side is optimistic the upcoming meeting can succeed where three earlier rounds

have failed.

In an interview with Reuters on Monday,...

President Trump said he had low expectations for the talks,... and the U.S. was in no rush

to resolve the dispute.

Beijing officials have said that Trump's constant provocations have made it extremely difficult

for them to offer conciliatory gestures.

Despite many American businesses being affected by the recent tit-for-tat measures,... observers

say Trump believes he can win a trade war with China.

This, according watchers,... adds to the chance that President Trump will proceed with his

latest threat to hit China with tariffs on another 200-billion dollars worth of goods.

Gov't rolls out new measures to help small biz owners, the self-employed - Duration: 2:22.

In other news, the government will be lending a helping hand to small business owners and

the self-employed... who've had to deal with sharp increases in the minimum wage for this

year and next.

They'll get tax breaks and lots more... so they can handle the extra labor costs.

Our economics correspondent Kim Ji-yeon has the details.

The measures laid out by the government on Wednesday -- that'll take effect starting

next year -- provide financial support equivalent to over six billion U.S. dollars... around

two billion dollars more than this year.

To lessen the burden stemming from the minimum wage hikes... the government says it's expanding

the job stabilization fund to small businesses with five employees or less from the current

116 dollars to 134 dollars.

The government also says it'll change the threshold for small businesses that'll be

exempt from paying value-added taxes in full.

The threshold will rise to 27-thousand dollars of annual sales from the current 21-and-a-half-thousand

dollars.

It says it'll expand tax credits -- a program that gives tax refunds to low-income households--

under the Earned Income Tax Credit Scheme... from the current 357-point-8-million dollars

to 1-point-2-BILLION dollars.

New recipients in 2019 will be eligible for a 50-percent discount on their health insurance

fees... while this year's recipients will receive a 30-percent discount next year.

The government will provide ten percent tax credits on monthly housing rent for diligent

small business owners with composite income of less than 54-thousand dollars.

They're also eligible for a 15-percent tax credit for their medical and education expenses

for a maximum of three years.

The package also includes a cut in credit card commissions and special loans of less

than one-percent for small online business owners and private taxi drivers.

The government also laid out measures to protect franchisees from franchise headquarters engaging

in unfair business practices.

It'll also give groups of small businesses the right to recommend a member to be nominated

for the Minimum Wage Committee to reflect their views on minimum wage increases.

The government plans to submit the related bills during the August parliamentary session.

Hey everyone, how are you guys doing?

today i am going to show a very quick and yummy dessert recipe

name of the recipe is Besan Barfi

it takes hardly 15-20 mins to prepare this

and it is very simple to prepare at home

so you can prepare it in advance for any occasion

and you know very well that Rakshabandhan and other festivals are just around the corner

so let's begin & find out how to make this quick besan barfi

first of all take half cup of desi ghee(clarified butter) in a pan

once ghee starts to melt

then add one cup of besan (gram flour)

after adding the besan

i am adding 1/4th cup of semolina

i have used fine semolina here

because of semolina barfi gets a very good texture

now keep stirring all the ingredients on a low to medium flame

keep stirring it until the colour turns to golden brown

keep stirring constantly so that it gets stick to the pan

after 5-6 mins, you can see that the consistency of the mixture has got softer

and the color of the mixture has been also changed

but we still need roast it more
