Hollywood Lifestyle | My Trip to LA | Watch Your Style Does Beverly Hills, Rodeo Drive, and More! - Duration: 8:38.

[opening music]

So this is the second time that I'm out here in LA and let me tell you something, the first

time that I came here, it was a little bit confusing because I felt like Hollywood had

pulled a Hollywood on me.

You're used to seeing it on TV an you see it a certain way, you kind of perceive it

as a certain type of look, but when you get there and you're riding on the freeway from

the airport, you're kind of like, This is it?

It kind of like took me the first couple of days to really understand it because it's

very spread out, not like Miami where I'm from where everything is more concentrated.

So for the first day, I was kind of let down, but then after the second and third day you

kind of start getting the rhythm of things and realizing where all the dope stuff is

and where everything really is in this place.

Overall, I love LA.

The views is sick man.

When you're in the Hills, I mean you kind have a lot more dimension to the view.

There's obviously different ones.

There's ones that overlook and you see like the whole see city and there's other parts

that see like the Hollywood sign.

This particular view is nice.

I mean, I got a little bit, but you got something, but overall, I think what I like better sometimes

are the views of the other houses, the fact that you're seeing the other houses up on

the hill.

The particular location of this exact house is actually pretty cool.

I mean, it's got Runyon Canyon, the entrance is literally right there.

Like it's location, location.

It's actually perfect because it's right next to Hollywood Boulevard and Sunset.

I think it's a perfect location overall.

It's very central.

You can make it anywhere, clubs are not too far, Beverly Hills is right there.

So it's overall very central.

So it's 8:30 pm.

Just got ready.

We're gonna go to dinner first to have some sushi.

And probably gonna go out tonight again, just for a little while.

I mean, everything here in LA is actually very early.

So that's a little bit of a change considering that I'm used to Miami where we kind of have

dinner at 11:30, but here the clubs close at 2:00 am.

We're gonna go out for a little while.

I got things to do tomorrow, but overall I'm just really happy with the turnout of this

actual house.

I mean, Jesus Christ, shout out to Airbnb.

The first time I get something on Airbnb by the way.

I thought it was a little bit sketchy.

I don't know.

I just never done it before, but actually they came through and the house is really

nice.

It has...this is nothing I can complain about with this house.

I see a lot more watches in Miami than in LA.

I just haven't seen as much concentration of Rolex and high end luxury watches as I

would usually see in Miami.

I just feel like here...I don't know, maybe they just spread out more, you know, the city

is more spread out, but I haven't seen too many like high end luxury watches.

I mean, I walked into the boutiques over there in Rodeo and I kind of felt like the stock

was so limited that it was like just women's watches and ugly watches that nobody wants

to buy.

Alright, so I'm rocking tonight the Patek 5980, full rose gold.

You know, something clean.

I mean, I've seen believe it or not a couple of bust-downs last night.

Last night I saw Playboi Carti with a bust-downs skeleton.

I mean, it's not my style but it looked hot.

Bryan, what are you wearing tonight.

>> BRYAN: Tonight I'll be wearing the all-gold Sky, chocolate dial.

>> ERIC: Is a good one, I mean, one of my personal favorites.

One of the things that I'm looking forward to doing in this trip is tomorrow is Saturday

mid-day we're gonna go to lunch at Nobu.

Everybody tells me it's a must do.

Let's see what the hype is all about.

I'll be the judge of that.

So I'm still looking for watches man.

I haven't seen any to tell you the truth.

I've been out here there.

This one watch that for one second at Starbucks I thought I had actually seen a guy with a

good watch and then I realized it was actually a fake 5980.

The sub-dial was actually silver and only the one on the leather strap has that, so.

I don't know man, every time I go somewhere and I travel I always try to do some type

of like watch spotting.

I'm always trying to see like if people are wearing watches or what type of caliber of

watches, and obviously I mean LA has a lot of money, so there's obviously a lot of watches.

I just haven't ran into them yet.

Only thing I've ran into so far is a fake 5980 rose gold.

I'm here in Rodeo Drive.

This is kind of what the Miami Design District aspires to be and I think at some point it

will get there, but for right now it's in the early beginning.

I mean there just pretty much is anything in luxury brands here.

It's got everything, all the luxury good stores are here.

I don't know if it's just me, but like one thing that I notice maybe it's just the timing

or I don't know, maybe it's just the timing or the day, but I noticed that in, for example,

Miami, Bal Harbour and in the Design District there's a lot more exotic cars, whereas here,

I don't know, I mean maybe it's like I said.

It could be maybe just timing or placement, but I feel like in Miami there's just a lot

more, shiny and exotic cars everywhere around these areas.

Alright so we're out here in Venice Beach California.

Actually, the first time that I came to LA I was out here, but I didn't have enough time

to actually walk the beach and we're here at the famous Muscle Beach in the whole strip

and let me tell you, it has like a Wynwood vibe.

It's kind of just like Wynwood in Miami, but like on the water.

Same thing, same chill vibe, a lot of hipsters, very laid back.

So let me tell you something that I've noticed about California.

There is some characters out here man!

I mean, I know we got some weirdos over there in Miami, but let me tell you something, it's

like extra, extra, extra special people watching over here.

I mean, I have not been bored a single moment in the people watching department while I've

been on the West Coast trip.

I mean, it's unbelievable the things you see.

[guitar player singing]

Yeah Santa Monica here is nice man.

It's for sight seeing it's perfect.

Venice was intense though.

Did you see that?

>> BRYAN: Most people that I've ever seen together in my life.

>> ERIC: Whoa!

Bro!

That was intense.

I haven't seen that many people in like a concentrated area.

It was like, it was crazy man!

And like talk about the characters.

What was up with that like sorcerer looking situation.

>> BRYAN: A sorcerer in a Speedo.

>> ERIC: I don't know if it was horns or if there was like his hair was like gelled out,

but it was crazy bro!

The last three days in L.A. have been very productive.

I got to see an important client of mine while I was here.

I did a little bit of partying at nighttime.

Went to a few clubs.

I also got explore places that I didn't get to go to the first time around and now I have

more of a better idea of what Los Angeles is like.

What's my favorite part?

I mean, look, it's all very nice, but I would say that my favorite part of LA is gonna be

either Hollywood, the whole Hills area, all of that is probably my favorite and Santa

Monica, where I'm at right now.

I mean, Santa Monica is so nice man, super cool.

I mean the weather is unbelievable.

I feel like I've been in the sun all three days and I haven't broken a sweat once.

That's the one factor that I can't take that back home to Miami.

The weather in Miami is humid and hot, whereas here it's just cool and dry and that's the

one thing that's gonna stick with me to the end.

So one thing about the watch game in LA.

I mean, there's definitely, obviously some heavy, heavy hitters and they're all over

the place, but I guess I just didn't see as many watches as you see in Miami.

There's just a lot more concentrated amounts of people wearing high end, luxury watches

in Miami as opposed to California.

No doubt that there are heavy, heavy hitters here, but I guess I just didn't see as many

as I thought I would.

Singapore National Day 2018 Google Doodle - Duration: 2:17.

Today The Search Engine Google is showing a Doodle for Singapore National Day.

Today on August 9 Singapore Google celebrate National Day.

The National Day of Singapore is celebrated every year on August 9, in commemoration of

Singapore's independence from Malaysia in the year 1965.

This holiday features a National Day Parade, an address by the Prime Minister of Singapore,

and fireworks celebrations.

The Singapore National Day Parade is a national ceremony that is usually held at the National

Stadium or the Padang.

For the first time in 2007, it was held at The float@Marina Bay in lieu of the National

Stadium, and this arrangement is expected to be maintained until the new sports hub

is opened in April 2014.

On the 2nd/3rd Sunday after the National Day, the Prime Minister of Singapore makes an annual

address to the nation, called the National Day Rally.

A yearly event since 1966, the Prime Minister uses this rally to address the nation on its

key challenges and its future directions, and can be compared to the State of the Union

Address delivered by the President of the United States.

Prior to 2005, the rally was a continuous speech from 8 pm (SST).

From 2005, the Malay and Chinese versions were delivered at 6.45 pm with a break at

7.30 pm while the English version was delivered at 8 pm.

Opposition of MPs have been invited to the rally since 2007.

National Day celebrations also include fireworks celebrations.

They feature several local and foreign teams which launch fireworks displays on different

nights.

First held in 2004 at Marina Bay, the event was initially known as the Singapore Fireworks

Festival and organised by Unusual Productions.

The amount of fireworks used has grown in magnitude over the past three years, from

4,000 rounds used in 2004 to over 9,000 in 2006.

In 2012, a Mentos commercial encouraged procreation during the same time as the fireworks celebration.

Almost Half Of Republicans Want To Give Trump Power To Shut Down Media Outlets - Duration: 5:12.

A new poll has some really bad data to hand over to the American press, because according

to this new poll, nearly half of all Republicans in this country think that Donald Trump should

have the authority to shut down any media outlet that he wants to shut down.

43% of Republicans, when polled, said that, "Yes, the President should absolutely have

the authority to shut down any media outlet that he thinks is acting or behaving badly."

Now, before we get into more of these poll results, let's remember that the First Amendment

guarantees the freedom of the press, meaning that the federal government can not interfere

with it.

This is more than just 43% of Republicans want media outlets that they hate shut down.

It's 43% of Republicans want to stomp all over the Constitution and the protections

that it affords to the press.

Now, these are the same people who get up in arms, sometimes quite literally, when you

talk about changing the Second Amendment, but when it comes to the First Amendment,

they honest to god don't care about it at all.

All these people out there screaming, "The Constitutional protections that we're afforded

..." No, no, no.

They just want the Second Amendment.

They do not care a bit about any of the other amendments or any of the text in the original

document.

The poll gets even worse here.

Republicans far more likely to take a negative view of the media.

That's not unexpected.

48% said they believe that the media is the enemy of the people.

48% say that the media is the enemy of the people, so Donald Trump's talking point there

where he has repeatedly said they're the enemy of the people, clearly that is resonating

with Republicans.

But again, it still gets worse, because we have 12% of Democrats and 21% of Independents

who agreed that Trump should also be able to shut down media outlets that he doesn't

like.

12% of Democrats, 21% of Independents who believe this nonsense.

Furthermore, 12% of Democrats and 26% of Independents believe that the press is the enemy of the

public.

This, while mostly a Republican problem, is apparently a bipartisan problem.

Here's the issue.

Yeah, Donald Trump attacks the media.

The Republican party told us at the beginning of this year that they were going to be running

against the press in this year's midterms.

I mean, we've seen that play itself out.

They announced it.

They said that's what they're gonna do, run against the media, paint them as the enemy,

since they have no big democratic boogeyman to use in this year's midterms.

But for the Democrats and the Independents, and for them to say that it's the enemy of

the people, listen.

The press sucks.

The corporate media is absolute garbage, and that's what annoys me about these polls, is

that, yes, it is 100% okay to hate the corporate media.

It's just that these people hate it for the wrong reasons.

The corporate media is not telling you the stories that you actually need to hear, stories

that affect your daily life, stories about products that will likely kill you if you

breathe them in, if you inhale them, get them on your skin, or if you're exposed to them,

or the dangerous working conditions that too many corporations are out there creating for

their workers.

You're not hearing those stories.

You're not hearing stories about climate change.

What you're hearing is a bunch of just anger at Donald Trump, or in the case of Fox News,

love of Donald Trump.

Russia dominates the headlines, especially on MSNBC.

CNN is always ready to push us into a war.

The only time they've said that Donald Trump looks presidential is when he lobbed a bunch

of bombs over at Syria, because they love a good conflict.

The press sucks, but not because they attack Donald Trump.

Most of the attacks on him have been 100% factually accurate.

They suck because they're owned by corporations with an agenda, and that agenda is to not

tell the American public about all of the deadly products that they put out on a daily

basis.

Instead, you distract them with these nonsense political stories while people get poisoned,

people get killed at work, the planet burns right now.

Largest fire, wildfire in the history of the United States happening right now in California.

The biggest one ever.

Where's the coverage of that?

Yeah.

The press sucks, but that doesn't mean the President should have the authority to shut

it down just because he doesn't like what they're saying about him, so if you want to

hate the media, go for it.

Just make sure that you're hating them for the right reasons.

Fourth Suspect in XXXTentacion Murder Case Arrested - Duration: 1:00.

For Complex News, I'm Frazier The last of the four suspects in XXXTentacion's murder

case has been arrested.

On Tuesday, 20-year-old Trayvon Newsome was arrested in Broward County, Florida.

Reports say that Florida Police believe Newsome was one of the two trigger men involved in

the tragic shooting, alongside Michael Boatwright.

Police records reveal that Newsome turned himself in and was booked on two charges of

murder in the first degree and robbery with a deadly weapon.

In what Broward Sheriff Scott Israel called a "tragic shooting," XXXTentacion was gunned

down outside of Riva Motorsports after withdrawing $50,000 in cash.

A bag with the cash in it was taken from the scene of the shooting.

According to court documents obtained by Complex, the third suspect in XXXTentacion's death,

Robert Allen, entered a not guilty plea less than a week after he was arrested on charges

of first-degree murder, robbery, and drug possession.

The other two suspects Michael Boatwright and Dedrick Devonshay Williams had previously

entered not guilty pleas of their own.

Lush Routines: Post-sun cooldown - Duration: 3:02.

- So after I'm in the sun, I feel dead.

(background laughter)

I'm praying for death.

(happy music)

Hey, I'm Graeme.

I'm a designer here at Lush in Vancouver, BC.

I work on a whole bunch of stuff

like campaigns, illustrations, et cetera.

Right now I'm working on Halloween and Christmas.

It's summertime, which means the heat has cranked up on me

in several aspects of my life.

I'm very pale, I have sensitive skin.

I'm hiding from the sun for most of the season.

But I'm gonna show you some stuff you can use

after you've had a bit of sun and you wanna recoup.

Alright, so the first one I wanna walk you through

is Oaty Creamy Dreamy.

This is a shower cream

and you're gonna find that when you're using it,

it's sort of like, you might kind of feel like

you're washing yourself with lotion.

And I love that about it.

It's not sudsy, it's not soapy.

All I can really feel is my skin healing

after taking a beating from all those UV rays.

So the next one I want to go through is Dream Cream.

This is one of my favorites.

It's probably also one of your favorites.

I don't know anyone that doesn't like this stuff.

I love it because, unlike a lot of other lotions,

I feel like it doesn't take that long to soak in.

I'm not greasy for ten minutes.

I just kind of put it on and when I look down,

it's somehow soaked up already.

So, I love not feeling shiny and slippery for ever after.

But I also notice that this one is lightly scented.

I don't feel like I smell like it after, which is great.

I like to smell like nothing.

I can't usually really use a lot of heavily scented stuff.

So, I love this.

So the next one I'm gonna show you is Breath of Fresh Air.

This is a toner water, I love this stuff.

I don't think you actually technically

need an excuse to use this stuff.

I use it all the time.

I don't use it just after sun, although it is great,

'cause it's got aloe and seawater in it.

But, I think you don't really need an excuse to use it.

People in my office, at my table,

we have an alarm set for when we're just gonna spritz.

And then we all spritz.

It's spritz o'clock, it's spritz o'clock all the time.

Frankly I like to use this on people

who don't know they're about to have it used on them.

So the last one I want to show you is Bunny Moon.

This is a jelly face mask,

as you can see with the cool texture.

People seem to be quite fond of it, I know I am.

I like this one on a day where maybe

I've forgotten my sunscreen.

And maybe I'm feeling slightly zorched.

I like this because it's got vanilla in it

and that's gonna kind of help my redness go down.

So that's my post-sun routine.

I hope you found it helpful.

I'm interested to know what yours are

because, I don't know, if you're like me

I'm always trying to find a way to not feel completely

zapped after I've been in the sun.

So, put those down there.

I'd be happy to hear about it.

And thank you for watching.

(happy music)

Just bang this out,

I don't want to waste a lot of time on this.

(background laughter)

What's the name, Lush?

I'm a fan of this product.

It's a good product, like it, great product.

Let's do it.

The Best of CT & Diem | The Challenge: Final Reckoning | MTV - Duration: 32:18.

- I'm at a point in my life where I wanna just live life.

I want the white picket fence dream.

I wanna get married, I wanna have kids

and I think, for the longest time,

I'm not gonna lie, I was a runaway bride.

I've been the girl that's terrified of commitment

but I'm realizing that no matter how organized

your ducks are, life can turn on two seconds.

So, you can't keep on waiting

'cause if you keep on waiting, it's gone

and having a partner like CT with me

gives me some sort of weird relief that

somebody is in my corner and that feels comforting.

(disc screeching)

(ominous music)

- Diem's really scared because she knows that she has to

take her wig off and ya know, her hair's growing back

from having cancer, so it's like,

she hasn't even let her Dad see her without her hair.

So, it's this huge moment that I don't even think

people really understood.

(intense music)

- I can hear the shock.

Ya know, like whoa!

And then I hear Derrick like, "D, you look good!"

And then I start crying because

it makes me feel nice.

- At that moment, when she takes her wig off

and turns into GI Jane, lookin' like a little

sexy supermodel secret agent.

- I just want the fricking horn to blow

and I wanna get in the water now.

- [CT] Alright.

- [Diem] What are you doing?

- I'm gonna bring it on, you ready?

One, two, three, go.

(intense music)

Diem's always concerned about the game,

always wants to find a way to sort of prepare herself

for the duel.

I just love being around that girl.

She keeps me pretty occupied.

There you go, you bent knees, perfect.

Tell you what though, if Diem wasn't here,

I'd be snappin' on people.

You know what, it's been pretty easy for you so far,

but I don't think you can try to avoid going in.

- The only thing is, I don't want, I can't.

- Why?

- Because I don't like that!

- Stop beating yourself.

- CT has done so much trying to make me feel comfortable

and he's tried so hard to like put all this

confidence on me and I'm like,

"This is hard."

But he's doing a damn good job.

- You have better chances to win than anybody else.

You show confidence.

'Cause if you doubt yourself, they're gonna eat you alive

and they're gonna make you believe that you're weak.

You can't let them do that.

- [Diem] I wanna have a cute first kiss.

- [CT] OK, this is pretty cute.

- [Diem] Is it perfect?

- [CT] I don't know.

- [Diem] I don't know if it's perfect.

- I've been trying to kiss this girl since I got here.

(jazzy music)

- I have a three-week rule with kissing.

I will not kiss somebody unless I've at least known them

for three weeks.

- You know you're fine, right?

- Stop saying that!

- You are.

- CT thinks I'm a dork for my little rules

but I think it's gonna get to him too.

- Let's talk about our first kiss.

Where we gonna have it?

- You can't plan it.

- Why not?

We can do it, ya know, on the deck of the house.

- So you wanna go like way out

to the edge of the cliffs.

- I don't wanna plan it.

- Why not?

A girl like Diem, ya know, she's been through a lot

and she's complex.

This is fun.

I'm glad we're talking about this right now.

Feel like I'm getting somewhere now.

(jazzy music)

(upbeat music)

Diem goes for a jog.

Sees me, I kinda give her the nod.

Then I take her to a little spot that I found,

the edge of a cliff.

- I don't know how we spotted them,

but everyone in the house is sitting on the porch

just staring at em waiting for that first move.

I wanna cry.

It's like I'm watching The Notebook.

- I tell her I don't want her to hide herself from me.

It's about her opening herself up to me

and being comfortable around me as her.

And then she takes her bandana off.

(upbeat music)

And now I feel like she's not gonna hide herself

from me anymore.

(light music)

(yelling)

- At least tell me how it was.

- How many people were out there?

- [Wes] I mean, like seven.

- I didn't realize everyone could see

and I'm pretty embarrassed right now.

Whatever! Damn it, I'm so pissed!

I thought I was gonna be slick.

- [Wes] At least tell me how it is.

- It was perfect.

(cheering) (clapping)

It was innocent.

- [Wes] It was very innocent.

Very innocent and very romantic and very beautiful.

I'm proud that you waited as long as you did.

- Thank you, Wes.

It was definitely number one ever,

best kiss in the world.

- [Guys] Awe!

- Our little baby's all grown up.

Makin' out with slime balls.

(laughing)

- OK, you wanna make out?

Wanna give me a good luck hug or something?

Rub your boobs, maybe?

- Stop.

- Just don't fart on me or anything.

I know you get gas when you get nervous.

I feel confident winning every challenge.

I know I'm not going in the duel

and I'd rather flirt with Diem.

- You've made me the happiest girl thus far.

- If you say so.

(laughing)

I love that giggle.

What?

- I what?

- I have?

- Yes.

I like him.

CT's a good boy.

And I'm glad we kissed.

(laughs)

'Cause now we get to do it again.

And again and again and again and again.

- I don't know what you're doing with me.

- Wish you'd see what I see.

Over time, I'll get you to see what I see.

I believe in you.

You're gonna win this.

She wants to win bad and she's got the determination

I want Diem to win.

I want me and Diem to be a pair

CT has really given me the confidence

Are you kidding me?

I've gotten to do everything I ever wanted to do

Christian Tissier - The Master/Student Relation, Teaching Honestly [Interview Part 5/7 - EN/FR] - Duration: 13:00.

Christian Tissier is a French Aikido practitioner.

One of the very few non-Japanese in history to have reached the title of 8th Dan Shihan.

He started Aikido at the age of 11

and is now one of the biggest influences of the international Aikido community.

Willing to get to the roots of his art,

he embarked on a trans-Siberian train at the age of 18 for a journey to Japan

and started to train at the Aikikai Hombu Dojo,

where he stayed for 7 years, honing his skills and learning the language and culture of Japan.

Now, at the age of 67, he gives seminars all around the globe, throughout the year, including Japan.

It is on one of these occasions that he offered us the opportunity to sit together in the legendary Butokuden of Kyoto,

to talk about his personal relation to Aikido for over an hour.

Today you are...

probably one of the biggest influences in international Aikido

putting aside the Japanese, among the foreigners, no doubt,

do you live it well, or is it sometimes difficult?

I don't think about it, I live it normally, very very normally.

no, that's it...

That's the way it is, very well.

Seeing the evolution...

that sometimes is not even driven by you, these things that happen by themselves around you.

I'm often surprised, yes, I'm surprised, it happens sometimes, I go somewhere...

How come there are so many people, I mean...

Or sometimes I go somewhere and I think...

We saw each other last week,

I'm in Paris, or I'm in...

he is from Finland or Sweden or...

Here, we have a trainee called Nora,

who is german and lives in Switzerland.

I saw her at the Easter seminar two months ago...

I was in Athens last week, she was in Athens...

I was in Switzerland three weeks ago, one month ago...

and I tell myself "Don't you have enough?"

Being in a Dojo and practicing at the Dojo is a normal thing.

Now, traveling 1,000 km, plus 1,000 km here, then 10,000 km...

You tell yourself: "what did I do to you to..."

What can...

So, at one point you're almost embarrassed because...

What more am I going to be able to teach them? I don't know.

Then, I think, I tell myself that certainly me too, if I was with...

Yamaguchi Sensei if he was still alive, well I would not want to miss anything.

So yes, it brings me back to something.

Somehow we wonder, am I really legitimate?

Am I not... ?

There are people on the mats, not to mention people I don't know,

Yoko for example, Yoko Sensei, Okamoto Sensei, we've known each other since...

We know each other since she was 17 - 18 years old...

She started Aikido at the Hombu, after that she came to Paris.

But she's a Sensei, and I'm not the only one [she trains with]

She practices a lot at the Hombu.

There was Chiba Sensei, Miyamoto Sensei, Yasuno Sensei, and Yamaguchi Sensei, of course.

That's it

She comes, she's eager to learn

What more can I teach you that others cannot?

There is certainly something, nothing more, but different,

"more" I don't think so.

Sometimes, you don't feel legitimate... I mean, when I say legitimate, it's:

"Why?"

Because we don't tell ourselves "I am brilliant, I am this or that...", we are what we are.

No more, no less.

Sometimes, it's something I question a little.

Sometimes I feel bad in my Aikido, obviously...

I play a little golf

and my teacher tells me: "When I compete, out of 18 holes, I hit I don't know how many times..."

"I'm like all professionals, there are only one or two balls that I hit properly in all."

And you say "Oh really ?!"

Because for me, they are all well hit.

But not for him.

And we are the same, sometimes we do the movement, it's just OK, but...

That's not it.

How come they don't see that it's not good?

And sometimes, the more it's wrong, the more you try to make it better by doing something far-fetched,

the more you have the impression it's good.

And then you think...

To what point can... could you lie to people?

To what point could you take them for a ride?

When will I be able to do that and get them to fall...?

No, I'm joking.

It's this legitimacy that...

And we must not fall into it.

That's why I explained, we do not make victims.

What we want is for people to become equal to what we are.

And it's they who will push you up.

Then, when you make people obedient, "because you did that, they fall".

Inside you know that's not it.

There's also a lot of...

Often it develops in Aikido despite oneself.

It develops despite oneself because,

this is called a yakusoku keiko ["agreed practice"]: There is an agreement,

Because if there is no agreement there is no Kata.

Everything starts from Kata.

You do Kata, you want to do ikkyo for example, a really basic form,

Your partner must know the Kata,

he should react so that the Kata,

To do ikkyo, nikyo, sankyo...

there has to be a reason for it.

I do ikkyo, the partner turns around.

Yes, I'm going to apply pressure on an arm,

but that's not the Kata.

It's not how you take the angle, it's not the correct way to turn the hand.

So there has to be an agreement for the Kata to work.

If we both want to do a figure...

a figure of 3 - 4 steps,

you must know the figure.

It's necessary that the first figure brings on the second,

it's a sequence.

Without that, it stops right away.

People are getting too much into the Kata,

that is, the one who's "Uke" is not the one who feeds the technique anymore,

He's the one who...

finds himself in the situation where he...

either helps the partner too much,

to behave a certain way.

Or...

to victimise himself.

But there's less exchange then.

It's an exchange that is a bit [flawed]...

So sometimes we need, not a confrontation,

but we need a relationship that is balanced by the action.

It is balanced so that the action continues.

That's where people can loose control, okay?

So again we're going back to the system you were explaining earlier about the fact of being "tatamised".

Whether Western, American or Japanese,

we "tatamise" ourselves on the mats.

That is, we become more "Uke" than we should.

We are not "Uke" anymore, we are downright...

I mean, we play a game if you want,

which is a game that is both illogical,

and can become unhealthy.

In that sense we will kind of play with the partner,

but it lacks sincerity.

Sometimes we, teachers,

I could talk about it with Miyamoto Sensei or some others,

we love, I mean I see with Miyamoto Sensei's Aikido, since he likes this work of contact,

he doesn't want someone, when he comes to push on your arm,

he doesn't want the person to fly 6 meters away.

He wants this compression, this exchange.

To get that compression, there must be an exchange.

So it's a bit the same logic.

Without that, you cannot have this work of contact.

Yamaguchi Sensei used to say: "Chushin wo toru" [take the center]

How do you want to take someone's center if he doesn't have one?

So if I want to take someone's center, he must have one.

But, when you get to take the center of someone who really has a center...

Without him or her moving a lot, you feel it...

and then it's enjoyable.

Because then you tell yourself "I did my thing".

That's it.

As a teacher and during your entire life,

what did Aikido bring you personally, humanly?

It's very difficult to say, because since I started when I was 11,

I can not say: "before I was like thit and thanks to Aikido I became like that."

I can imagine that the practice of Aikido...

has a big influence on who you are, because...

when you practice you communicate with people.

You exchange, you need the other.

You need him to feed your practice.

When you're Uke, you also need, in relation to the person you're working with,...

Or you know someone, you decide to work a little hard,

you're 3rd, 4th Dan, it's important to have some experience.

Then sometimes, to work with someone who is...

first kyu...

If you attack, you can do nothing, OK... so what? How is it good for you?

Except if at one moment they move too much, you say stop: "boum!".

But the next time, you give, you participate.

You also give sensations to a partner.

When you are Uke, you can give sensations to the other.

So you have this exchange.

Inside this exchange, you have the relational aspect,

you have all the principles, distance, vision,

respect for [your partner's] integrity, respect for yours,

what kind of risk you can take - it's calculated -

how far you can go

the economy of action,

all are natural principles that you put in practice, you add principles.

So it is rich.

And...

You always look for...

Aikido is the search of the ideal of purity through gesture.

The search of the ideal of purity through gesture.

With an alibi.

Someone who is there to...

put a constraint on you.

Because otherwise, I put myself in a corner like this,

I can imagine that I am in harmony with everything.

I just need to smoke a little bit and everything is hunky dory.

Now, I have a Shomen incoming,

I am in harmony or I am not, but what is harmony, what does it mean?

I am in harmony because [I dream]...

or I'm in harmony because...

during this action, something happens between the two.

And you find your own freedom in this action.

Despite the constraint.

So in spite of something that is supposed to destabilize you.

That's the richness of Aikido.

You attack me, you are supposed to destabilize me...

In spite of that, I try to have a gesture that remains as pure as possible.

So you cannot have the purest gesture possible in the action,

with a constraint,

if there is no constraint, it's dancing.

So work the pure gesture for 10 years, 20 years and then go out in the street,

be someone else.

I mean, it's not possible. You know what I mean?

It's not possible.

I imagine someone coming,

who enters a Dojo,

who learns to bow, who learns to stand straight because it's the place.

After you go home, you can lay down on a sofa, that's your right, it's not a problem.

But then, anyway, you don't want to say "Hi, how are you" [in slumped position].

So it starts there. It's interesting sometimes...

That's why the notion of etiquette is important.

Because etiquette in the end,

it's already a frame that is easy to observe,

It's more difficult than a Shomen Irimi Nage attack.

So if you have already acquired the etiquette,

you have already acquired something,

in the relationship with people.

So, that's it, I think you become what your practice brings you.

- The people on the boat,

the crew plus the guests,

it's a community for five days.

There are meals to be taken together.

We take showers together.

We sleep on one floor.

Even them, they feel like they are part of Tao family,

for five days.

And I think that's what also makes them happier,

in the end.

It wasn't just a tour that they've paid for

because they've went to this exotic place.

No it's comradery.

They experience a lot.

- We don't build an overdeveloped, build big cottages

that offer this creature comforts

that you have from back home,

but we build and design huts that connect the traveler

directly to that natural environment.

So you are sleeping in an open-sided bamboo hut.

It's just a simple curtain, no walls.

You can basically fall to sleep with the ocean breeze

and the sound of the waves.

It's a unique experience for the guests.

(ocean breeze)

After sunset and night fallen,

everybody is enjoying the dinner on the beach.

Then if you walk a little bit away from the camp,

down by the seashore,

look up.

There's a sky full of stars.

(gentle calming music)

Where you shower is exactly

how they shower and bathe in the islands,

which is directly at the water source.

A menu full of fresh food that is actually harvested

From nose to tail,

from the fisherman to being grilled just on the beach,

just the freshest fish.

We'll talk about it and hear about it,

but it's rare that you get a whole full five day menu

of that kind of incredibly, high-quality ingredients.

You're just eating the landscape as you're going along.

Who would have even thought that now-a-days,

We survive without microwave.

- This is the raw experience that everyone is looking for.

Unmediated.

Unplanned.

Not fake but for anyone to experience,

but it's just the raw culture.

What we offer, the island way,

where we sleep, what we eat, what we do,

in our daily lives,

this is what the travelers are wanting.

We invite you to see and experience our community.

We invite you to taste our food.

We invite you to really take part of what this culture is,

the islander culture.

After 10 years of creating and developing

I think we've made our mistakes

GOOD DOG & Pet Adoption | Cori Doerrfeld - Duration: 1:04.

Hello, my name is Cori Doerrfeld, and I am the author-illustrator of Good Dog.

[MUSIC]

So Good Dog came when we adopted a little dog named Rufus.

And even though the first time I saw him, he had these giant ears,

he was kind of smelly, it was definitely love at first sight.

So Good Dog really came from this idea that a dog kind of

has a human that they're meant to be with.

It's told from the dog's perspective, and we see this little dog.

He sees this little girl and

kind of knows right from that first moment that that's who he's meant to be with.

Every dog is a good dog.

Every dog deserves a good home.

So when it was time for my family to find a pet, I definitely wanted to go to

a shelter because I know there are so many good dogs out there.

That even if they're not purebred, even if they have giant ears,

or even if they have smelly breath like Rufus, they still deserve a good home.

Rufus fit into our family from day one.

And so I, of course, included him in the dedication for Good Dog.
