DEMENTIA, WANDERED AWAY FROM THE
KRISLEIGH ASSISTED LIVING
FACILITY TO RITCHIE HIGHWAY
WHERE SHE WAS HIT BY A CAR, AND
KILLED.

OFFICE LEARNED OF THIS INCIDENT
AND BASED ON WHO -- IMMEDIATE
REPORTS, WE INVESTIGATED INTO
THIS ASSISTED LIVING FACILITY.
VANESSA: NOW THIS, THE ATTORNEY
GENERAL FOR MAYRLAND FILING A
LAWSUIT AGAINS THE SEVERNA PARK
ASSISTED IVING FACILITY.
THE ALLEGATION, MEDICAID FRAUD,
WITH THE GOVERNMENT PAYING
KRISLEIGH MORE THAN $1 MILLION
FOR PATIENTS WHO REQUIRE THE
HIGHEST LEVEL OF CARE.

-- MEDICAID PROGRAM TO GIVE
CERTAIN SERVICES TO THE
RESIDENTS.
IN THIS CASE, WE REALIZED THEY
DID NOT PROVIDE THOSE SERVICES
AND THE SERVICES THEY DID
PROVIDE WERE SUBSTANDARD.
TO BE WORTHLESS.
VANESSA: THE STATE SAYS THE
OWNERS OF KRIS LEIGH, FAILED TO
ADEQUATELY STAFF THE FACILITY,
REFUSED TO HIRE AND TRAIN
QUALIFIED STAFF AND AND REFUSED
TO FOLLOW MEDICATION PLANS FOR
RESIDENTS.
>> IN ONE INSTANCE, WE HAD A
PERSON WHO TRIED TO GET
ASSISTANCE AND THIS PERSON
ULTIMATELY HAD A HEART ATTACK
AND THIS PERSON DID NOT RECEIVE
ANY IMMEDIATE ATTENTION BY THE
STAFF.
VANESSA: THE FACILITY HAS FACED
OTHER SERIOUS PROBLEMS, LAST
YEAR, FIRE OFFICIALS SAID KRIS
LEIGH WORKERS RENDERED BOTH THE
SPRINKLER AND FIRE ALARM
INOPERATIVE, WHILE USING MAKE
SHIFT HEATERS TO TREAT BED BUGS.
THAT CAUSED A MASSIVE FIRE, NO
ONE WAS HURT
THE ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE
SAYS THE OWNERS RICHARD AND
HELEN AINSWORTH IGNORED
COMPLAINTS FROM STAFF, AND IN
SOME CASES, PUNISHED EMPLOYEES
WHO COMPLAINED.
THE STATE SAYS OVER THE NEXT 30
DAYS MOST OF THE MEDICAID
PATIENTS WILL BE RELOCATED.
