Why Do Dogs Tilt Their Heads? - Duration: 2:41.

You've probably seen a dog tilt its head in response to a weird noise or something

you said.

It's super cute, but why do they do it?

Well, the answer's not entirely clear, and there hasn't been any peer-reviewed research

about it.

But a couple scientists hypothesize that head-tilting might help dogs see and hear us better.

One popular idea comes from a 2013 blog post by a psychologist named Stanley Coren, who

studies dogs and their behaviors, among other things.

He thinks that puzzled tilt means a dog is trying to see you better.

When you speak to someone, dog or otherwise, you express a lot of emotion with the lower

half of your face.

And according to a small 2015 study, it seems like our canine companions can tell the difference

between facial expressions that show emotion, like happiness or anger.

But a dog with a bigger muzzle might not be able to see your smile or frown clearly, so

Coren suggests that tilting helps them get a better view.

He tested this idea by surveying 582 dog owners online, asking them about their dog's breed

or head shape, and asking them to rate how frequently their dogs do the head tilting

thing.

The data were split into two groups.

One was brachycephalic dogs with flatter faces like pugs.

And the other was a mix of mesaticephalic dogs with medium muzzles like beagles and

dolichocephalic dogs with long noses like greyhounds.

In Coren's survey, 71% of owners of bigger-muzzled dogs reported that their pups "frequently,"

"most of the time," or "always" tilt their heads when spoken to, as opposed to

only 52% of owners of smaller-muzzled dogs.

That, he says, is a statistically significant difference.

But 52% is still a lot of dogs, so this probably isn't the whole story.

A psychologist who runs a dog cognition lab named Alexandra Horowitz thinks that dogs

could be trying to hear us better with those sideways looks.

Specifically, she thinks they're tilting their heads to adjust the floppy parts of

their ears, called pinnae, to get a better sense of where sounds are coming from.

A third take from a dog trainer named Steven Lindsay is that dogs tilt their heads because

one part of their brain is involved in both listening and body language.

[like ambiguous] We think a region called the nucleus ambiguus

controls a dog's head movements, as well as the muscles in a dog's middle ear that

help it perceive subtly different sounds.

So Lindsay suggests that when your pup is listening, it can't help but show you with

its body too.

We don't really know how accurate any of these guesses are, but we do know that dogs

tilting their heads is real cute.

So to any animal psychologists out there: round up some puppies, do some research, and

post more of these adorable videos online... for science!

Jedi Council Scene | Star Wars The Phantom Menace (1999) | Movie Clip - Duration: 3:30.

He was trained in the Jedi arts.

My only conclusion can be that it was a Sith lord.

Impossible. The Sith have been extinct for a millennium.

I do not believe the Sith could have returned without us knowing.

Ah, hard to see, the dark side is.

We will use all our resources to unravel this mystery.

We will discover the identity of your attacker.

May the Force be with you.

Master Qui-Gon.

More to say have you?

With your permission, my master,

I have encountered a vergence in the Force.

A vergence, you say?

Located around a person?

A boy.

His cells have the highest concentration of midi-chlorians I have seen in a life-form.

It is possible he was conceived by the midi-chlorians.

You refer to the prophecy...

of the one who will bring balance to the Force.

You believe it's this boy?

- I don't presume to... - But you do.

Revealed your opinion is.

I request the boy be tested, Master.

Oh? Trained as a Jedi you request for him, hmm?

Finding him was the will of the Force.

I have no doubt of that.

Bring him before us, then.

The boy will not pass the council's test, Master. He's too old.

Anakin will become a Jedi, I promise you.

Do not defy the council, Master, not again.

I shall do what I must, Obi-Wan.

If you would just follow the code, you would be on the council.

They will not go along with you this time.

You still have much to learn, my young apprentice.

A ship.

A cup.

A ship.

A speeder.

How feel you?

Cold, sir.

Afraid are you?

No, sir.

See through you we can.

Be mindful of your feelings.

Your thoughts dwell on your mother.

- I miss her. - Mmm.

Afraid to lose her, I think, mmm?

What has that got to do with anything?

Everything.

Fear is the path to the dark side.

Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate.

Hate leads to suffering.

I sense much fear in you.

John Dillinger Museum - Americana - Duration: 4:52.

they roadtrippers i hope you enjoyed a

different setting and welcome to the

Americana and Oddities series where

we go to different Americana and stuff

that is just plain strange in the United

States in this video we visited John

Dillinger Museum in Crown Point Indiana

and don't forget to hit that subscribe

button if you want to see more videos

just like this one what is the first

thing you think of when I say John

Dillinger is it the Biograph theater or

maybe it's bank robbers the John

Dillinger museum is located in Crown

Point Indiana and if you don't know much

about John Dillinger then you wouldn't

know that Crown Point Indiana is

actually where he's from so it is

really an appropriate place to have it

and it's also located inside the

courthouse, or the old courthouse, where

he actually spent a lot of time there

and today this building is no longer a

courthouse is called the old courthouse

there's a lot of little shops and it is

a fantastic and beautiful building quite

honestly and it's very well kept up and

the day I visited they actually had

these sculptures all around the building

around the facilities and it's temporary

and it should be done I think by the end

of this year or next year it's by the

same artist who's done that

touring Marilyn Monroe statue and of

course being a little bit different I

went into the south entrance as opposed

to the normal north entrance because the

north entrance is where you then get to

the Dillinger Museum a little easier but

this is where I had to walk past a few

of the shops which again really cool

little place and as I was walking

through here I couldn't help but to

think you know John Dillinger walked

these halls these very halls and that

made it really kind of more interesting

for me you know any museum can be any

old place but this museum is actually in

a place where he was at and after paying

admission I walked down this beautiful

hallway that was kind of narrow but it

was bricked on both sides and I still

couldn't help but think that John

Dillinger walked these halls but this

building was still quite immaculate and

going into the entrance as he go into a

jail cell that they actually have to

buzz you in

which is

interesting because it sounds like what

you would think a prison jail buzzer

door would sound like

now this museum was very small but they

used the space very very intelligently

and I really liked it as it walks you

through the history of the beginnings of

his crime spree and even a little bit

about his background in Crown Point and

then it walks you through his entire

crime spree and everything that he did

during his life of crime and there is a

lot of memorabilia there as well as a

thorough account of John Dillinger's

life of crime and there are some other

memorabilia in there that aren't really

to do with John Dillinger but they are

the same time period and they are

criminals and it kind of goes along with

their general message of the museum of

crime does not pay they tell you a

little bit about its family they tell

you about his life of crime and

basically they give you a lot of details

about his run from the FBI which was

then just brand new and then they tell

you about the woman in red

was it really red she was wearing how

did he know her why did she turn him in

and what actually happened you can even

see the trousers that John Dillinger was

wearing when he was killed and the money

that was actually found in his pocket at

the time if it isn't obvious I really

enjoyed the visiting this museum because

it's a piece of American history and a

great piece of Americana the cost of

getting into this museum is about two to

four dollars and you want to spend about

thirty to even 60 minutes in there you

could spend more if you're a big John

Dillinger fan or if you're a big

gangster fan you'll probably spend a

little bit more than an hour but not a

whole lot more it is family-friendly

however it be careful about bringing

kids are because the topic is a little

sensitive and it does have some violence

in it not a lot but there is it is there

it is couples friendly and singles

friendly RV friendly though it had

trouble finding parking for RVs driving

a car but I was looking for RV parking

and they said that you could park in the

municipal a lot but this is the only lot

I saw and it doesn't look like it would

really fit an RV

the americana factor is about seven I

think it's pretty high up there in

Americana but there are things obviously

more Americana style as far as the

detour value this is at least a thirty

I would take at least a 30 to 60-minute

detour off your route especially if you

are a gangster or a John Dillinger fan

or a history buff it is definitely worth

the little extra time that you would

take off your normal route and of course

if you got something out of this video

click the like button share with all

your friends if I miss something because

I'm not perfect

leave a comment below and if you really

Qui-Gon's Funeral & Ending Scene | Star Wars The Phantom Menace (1999) | Movie Clip - Duration: 3:36.

Confer on you the level of Jedi knight the council does.

But agree with your taking this boy as your Padawan learner...

I do not.

Qui-Gon believed in him.

The chosen one the boy may be.

Nevertheless,

grave danger I fear in his training.

Master Yoda, I gave Qui-Gon my word.

I will train Anakin.

Without the approval of the council, if I must.

Qui-Gon's defiance I sense in you.

Need that you do not.

Agree with you the council does.

Your apprentice Skywalker will be.

What will happen to me now?

The council have granted me permission to train you.

You will be a Jedi, I promise.

There's no doubt the mysterious warrior was a Sith.

Mmm. Always two there are.

No more, no less.

A master and an apprentice.

But which was destroyed?

The master or the apprentice?

Hello, everybody!

Peace!

Ya-hoo!

Qui-Gon & Obi-Wan vs Trade Federation Droids | Star Wars The Phantom Menace (1999) | Movie Clip - Duration: 3:57.

Is it in their nature to make us wait this long?

No. I sense an unusual amount of fear for something as trivial as this trade dispute.

What is it?

This scheme of yours has failed, Lord Sidious.

The blockade is finished. We dare not go against these Jedi.

Viceroy, I don't want this stunted slime in my sight again.

This turn of events is unfortunate.

We must accelerate our plans. Begin landing your troops.

My lord, is that legal?

I will make it legal.

And the Jedi?

The chancellor should never have brought them into this. Kill them immediately.

Yes. Yes, my lord. Uh, as you wish.

Captain, look!

Shields up!

Sorry.

Dioxis.

They must be dead by now.

Destroy what's left of them.

Oh! Excuse me.

- Check it out, Corporal. We'll cover you. - Roger, roger.

Uh-oh. Blast them.

What is going on down there?

We lost the transmission, sir.

Have you ever encountered a Jedi knight before, sir?

Well, no, but I don't... Seal off the bridge.

- Yes, sir. - That won't be enough, sir.

I want droidekas up here at once!

We will not survive this.

Close the blast doors!

That will hold them.

They are still coming through.

This is impossible!

Where are those droidekas?

Master! Destroyers!

They have shield generators!

It's a standoff. Let's go.

They're no match for droidekas.

Sir! They've gone up the ventilation shaft.

- Battle droids. - It's an invasion army.

This is an odd play for the Trade Federation.

We've got to warn the Naboo and contact Chancellor Valorum.

Let's split up. Stow aboard separate ships and meet down on the planet.

You were right about one thing, Master.

The negotiations were short.

- Qui-Gon, sir, wait! I'm tired! - Anakin! Drop!

Go! Tell them to take off!

Qui-Gon's in trouble.

Take off.

Over there. Fly low.

Are you all right?

I think so.

What was it?

I'm not sure, but it was well-trained in the Jedi arts.

My guess is it was after the queen.

What are we gonna do about it?

We shall be patient.

Anakin Skywalker, meet Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Hi.

You're a Jedi too? Pleased to meet you.
