The topic of this video tutorial series is SAP HANA platform Installation and Update
and in this video, I will show you how to install SHINE.
Hi, I am Denys van Kempen.
For those not familiar, SHINE, short for SAP HANA Interactive Education, is a demo application
with the goal to make it easier to learn how to build applications on SAP HANA.
In this video, I will show you how you can install SHINE on the HANA platform edition,
be it on-premise or in the cloud
In another video in this series, we will look into installing SHINE on the free SAP HANA,
express edition as it works slightly different.
If you work on the platform edition, you will have a SAP Support account and would go the
SAP Support Portal, software downloads: support.sap.com/swdc
Just search for demo model in Downloads.
Note that there are two versions, you want the one with ADV, advanced.
SHINE for HANA 1.0 (XS classic) works fine on older versions of SAP HANA (HANA 1.0) but
starting with SPS 12 and for all the HANA 2.0 releases, it makes more sense to pick
the XSA, XS advanced version, as XS classic is pretty much deprecated for HANA 2.0.
Then we have a SHINE version for each major release, each SPS.
I will pick SPS 02, the latest at the time of the recording and add the component to my
download basket.
Then, on my Windows client, I will use the SAP Download Manager to download the component
- it is about 200 MB - and then use Windows Secure Copy to copy the ZIP file to the HANA
server.
Now, there are other ways how you can do this, of course, using FTP for example, this is
just one of them.
Let's take a look.
I am connected here with a terminal session to the HANA server.
I have uploaded the zip file to /install
ls
Here we have it
and, by the way, SHINE is also included in the full release, the SPS media set
If we 'ls DATA_UNITS'
And then XSA_CONTENT
We can see the XSACSHINE zip listed here.
Before we can install SHINE, we first need a user account to own the content with some privileges.
The system is T01, so my operating system administration account is t01adm.
Let's first check that everything is in place.
For this, we are going to use a couple of xs client commands.
Let's start with 'xs l', short for login, to connect.
Username is XSA_ADMIN, at least that is the default.
This is defined when you install the XS Advanced runtime, so it could be any name.
If you did not install the runtime, ask your administrator
and if you get any errors at this stage, maybe the xs command is not recognised,
then the XS the advanced runtime will not have been installed.
You will need to fix that first and there is a video in this playlist which shows you how you can do that.
Then run the command 'xs a', short for apps, to see if SHINE is not already installed.
You never know.
There is no upgrade for SHINE, so if you want to install a newer version, you will have
to remove the previous one, first.
I will show you how to do this at the end of this video.
Couple of other things we can check.
We need the audit log service.
Here we can see the server and broker started, so that's OK.
We need portal services.
Also present.
We need the Job scheduler.
Looking good.
SAP UI5
The xsa-admin administration tool and, optionally, SAP webIDE for SAP HANA, in case you want
to view and execute the SHINE for XSA code.
Alternatively, you can run the 'xs m' command, m for marketplace, and here we also
see the auditlog, portal-services and jobscheduler services installed.
OK.
So far, so good.
If some parts are missing, do not proceed.
First, either install them or have someone do that for you.
Then, all we need to do is create a user to own the SHINE objects with a couple of roles
for the required privileges.
For this, start the XS Advanced Admin tool, connecting again as XSA_ADMIN (or whatever
is your administration account).
Select User Management
Select New
Give the user a name: I will use SHINE here, and an email address, any address will do
plus a password.
We will need to reset this password upon first connection,
so you might want to use something generic.
Then, select the user.
Select Role Collections.
Add the roles:
XS_AUTHORIZATION_ADMIN, XS_CONTROLLER_ADMIN and AUDITLOG_VIEWER.
That's a lot of privileges.
Don't forget that SHINE is not intended for installation on production systems.
It is for training purposes, so install it on a training server.
Save
Now, let's first connect.
So we can change the password.
OK.
Done.
Then, if we return to the xs client, there is one more thing we need to do:
set the space role.
'xs set space-role username', SHINE in our case, organisation name, orgname in our case,
and space name, SAP in our case.
When we connected, the xs client printed this out for us.
Default organisation and space are created when the runtime is installed.
This can be changed.
So, again, if you did not set this up yourself, ask your administrator.
OK.
Done.
Now we need to logout XSA_ADMIN and login with SHINE
Let's ls for the path.
And then we can just simply run the 'xs install' command with the path to the zip file
This will take some time, 10 minutes give or take.
Fast forward
and eventually, everyting is installed and up and running.
Then with the 'xs a' (a for apps) command, we can see them listed.
Note that's at least 5 times 1 GB of memory for the application and its microservices.
I will copy the shine-web URL
Paste it in a browser.
Log on as SHINE.
We get a little welcome page with the What's New.
Let's check the prerequisites again.
To launch the data generator, we need another role collection: SHINE_ADMIN, which we then
need to assign to our SHINE user.
Let's create this first.
We are logged out, so we need to reconnect.
Let's check again.
Now we can generate time data.
Click the button.
Time data generated successfully.
OK.
OK.
OK.
And here we have our SHINE dashboard.
If we open the data generator tile, we get the error that we need the SHINE_ADMIN role connection.
So, if we switch to the XS Advanced Administration tool
First log out as SHINE
Then log on as XSA ADMIN
User Management
SHINE
Role Collections
Add
SHINE ADMIN
OK
SAVE
Log Out
Now we can paste in the URL for SHINE web again
Log in as SHINE.
And now we should be able to generate data.
In my case here, the popup still returns the exception.
However, when we ignore it this time, data generation works fine.
Afterwards, we can then open the sales dashboard, for example.
Easy does it.

And here is also documented how to uninstall SHINE: just logon as the SHINE user and run
the command 'xs uninstall XSAC_SHINE -delete-services.
