When James Damore's Google manifesto came out, I found out something interesting that I had in common with his critics.

I didn't read the memo either. It's like 10 pages, come on. Who has time for that?

It's much easier just to be outraged about it.

Now I'm here with Dr. Debra Soh, a science journalist and columnist for Playboy and Globe and Mail.

Dr. Soh, who's more likely to be outraged by something they didn't even bother to read? Is that a girl thing or a guy thing?

[DR. SOH] Um...

(music)

So, you were someone who came to Damore's defense. You wrote an article titled,

"No, the Google Manifesto isn't sexist or anti-diversity. Its science."

Since his critics are probably not going to read it, let's go through the title, it's:

"Google's Ideological Echo Chamber: how bias clouds our thinking about diversity and inclusion."

Man, I almost didn't get through the title, it's so long.

Could you just summarize the argument?

[DR SOH] So, I can't speak for James, my understanding is that he was trying to help Google,

and try to understand why their diversity initiatives weren't working.

They had been trying to recruit more women, but they still weren't able to have a 50/50 ratio.

And so he looked at some of the scientific research and was saying,

'well you know, maybe it's not a problem with these diversity efforts,

maybe it's just that women don't inherently find STEM disciplines as interesting.'

And so if that's the case, maybe there isn't actually a problem here.

Doesn't make sense to try and find a solution if there isn't a problem.

[LOU] I wonder if there's any chance that women just don't want to work with James Damore?

[JAMES] As an engineer, when I'm faced with a problem, I want to solve it.

[DR. SOH] He seems lovely, so I wouldn't say that.

[LOU] Okay. All right.

[DR. SOH] Somebody's jealous.

[LOU] Okay. All right.

[LOU] James Damore brought up testosterone

and its effect on our development and our attraction towards certain activities or jobs.

Can you go into that a little bit?

[DR. SOH] Yes, there's a very large and long-standing body of research literature that

supports the fact that prenatal testosterone exposure predicts what we will find interesting, what we gravitate towards

when we're born and in adulthood.

So, higher levels of exposure are associated with more male-typical interests and activities,

so mechanically interesting activities, whereas lower levels of exposure are associated with socially engaging activities.

So this is why men are usually exposed to higher levels of testosterone,

that's why they gravitate towards mechanically interesting occupations, like STEM disciplines,

whereas women are exposed to lower levels so they gravitate towards more socially engaging occupations.

[LOU] Where does comedy fall on that line?

'Cause I have, like, so much testosterone. (guitar solo)

[LOU] Where does the prenatal testosterone come from?

Is it all, like, the mother?

Does your mom have to be, like, just doped up with testosterone to make sure she gets an ass-kicking son out of it?

[DR. SOH] At about seven weeks, if the embryo is male, the testes will secrete testosterone,

and that is what leads to the masculinization of the brain.

If the embryo is female, this process doesn't happen.

[LOU] So the testosterone comes from baby balls?

[DR. SOH] Um...

[LOU] You and James Damore, you both talk about how women are higher in "neuroticism and agreeableness, and lower in stress-tolerance."

"Neuroticism," sounds like you're gaslighting. Is that what you're doing?

[DR. SOH] Neuroticism is actually just a technical term for someone's likelihood to experience negative moods.

So I think neuroticism kind of has a bad rap, but it really doesn't need to.

Rates of depression have been shown to be higher in women so I think if we can acknowledge these differences and say,

okay, maybe we can offer more support in that way, so that women won't have to go through that alone,

that to me is really the point of the research, I think.

I don't think there has to be a negative connotation to the term.

Acknowledging that it's higher in women.

[LOU] What about unconscious bias? Is unconscious bias holding women back?

[DR. SOH] There's actually been research to show the opposite, that people are actually biased in favor of hiring women.

So, say within STEM disciplines and academia, a paper came up recently that showed that hiring faculty is actually in favor of female candidates.

[LOU] So, do you think that's more of kind of like, all the geeks got together and they're like,

"We gotta meet girls! Why don't we just go out of our way to hire girls?"

Why do they sound like that? Do they sound like that?

[DR. SOH] They don't sound like that. No.

[LOU] They don't sound like that? [DR. SOH] No.

[LOU] So Damore, he wrote about men being more prone to seek status.

The quote: "the same forces that lead men into high pay/high stress jobs in tech and leadership

cause men to take undesirable and dangerous jobs like coal mining, garbage collection, and firefighting,

and suffer 93% of work-related deaths.

So, are men idiots? Like, why? Why the hell would we do that?

[DR. SOH] Well, testosterone is associated with greater risk-taking activities, and as I mentioned also,

more male-typical occupations.

Obviously men have higher levels of testosterone flowing through them and that's part of the reason why.

[LOU] Hell yeah! (guitar solo)

[LOU] So on the issue of diversity, Damore called for Google,

and I guess us in general, to demoralize diversity.

He wrote, "as soon as we start to moralize an issue, we stop thinking about it in terms of costs and benefits,

dismiss anyone that disagrees as immoral, and harshly punish those we see as villains to protect the 'victims.'"

Sounds like something a monster would say.

Or someone who was just fired by Google for proclaiming things they didn't want to hear.

[DR. SOH] I feel, nowadays, people are so quick to accuse someone of being immoral,

for questioning things that have nothing to do with morality,

so I agree with him, I don't think diversity is something that should be considered a moral issue.

Again, if diversity strategies aren't actually effective, we should be able to call that into question,

and you shouldn't be a bad person for doing so.

I think we should be able to challenge ideas and have that separate from the individual.

So, if you have a set of ideas, you should be willing to engage with people and debate about them,

and not take it personally, and think that that's saying something about you as a person.

[LOU] Well what if your ideas are just not right, and I don't think anybody should hear them,

and I'm gonna do this.

[DR. SOH] Then you're part of the problem.

[LOU] Or the solution.

[DR. SOH] The problem.

[LOU] Is there a biological or evolutionary basis for outrage?

Like, our ancestors, like, being chased by a lion, and it's like, "I can't even!"

[DR. SOH] There is, actually, and it does make sense from an evolutionary perspective,

because it helps to keep a sense of order in our society.

Something like, you know, 'we shouldn't kill people' obviously keeps us safe.

It gives us meaning in life, also.

[LOU] It gives us meaning in life?

[DR. SOH] Mhmm. [LOU] Like outrage meaning?

[DR. SOH] Well the funny thing is nowadays, it's gone to such a point where really,

pretty much everything outrages people, so it's kind of gone to the extreme now.

[LOU] You have outrage culture and then virtue signalling, are they kind of one and the same? Or...

[DR. SOH] I would say they're interlinked, and actually,

there has been research to show that with virtue signalling,

it actually has more to do with the person's own sense of moral failing than it does about the issue that they claim to be moral about.

[LOU] What happens when someone who speaks on behalf of women disagrees with someone else who speaks on behalf of women?

How do straight white men know who to listen to?

I mean, which ambassador for women, or even minorities, do we say, like, "They're right!"

[DR. SOH] I think the best advice I would have for you, whether you are a straight white male or not,

is look at the science, look at what the research says.

I don't think whether you're a woman or not,

it shouldn't make any difference in terms of whether someone's right or should be listened to.

[LOU] What's the response been to you?

You came out in defense of James Damore, you're obviously a traitor to your sex and gender.

How are you doing? How are you holding up?

[DR. SOH] I've been well.

I take a lot of pride in the things I write about and the things I say, and I know that they're based in science,

so, you know, there was quite a bit of pushback but I have very thick skin, so it doesn't get to me.

[LOU] What's, like, the worst things someone has said to you?

[DR. SOH] People like to use the internalized misogyny thing a lot.

They claim, you know, if you're a woman and you don't really say the things that women are supposed to say,

or think the things that "progressive women" think, then you're, you know, you must somehow be misogynistic.

Which, in my mind, that's what's misogynistic, that a woman can't have her own ideas.

[LOU] Last one, who does autism better? Men or women?

[DR. SOH] I don't know if there's an answer to that.

[LOU] Men. (guitar solo)

The Whole Saga of the Supercontinents - Duration: 9:18.

By now, you've surely picked up on the idea that the study of natural history is basically

the study of how the world has changed.

The study of how we all got here.

And of course, the world continues to change, all the time.

I mean, literally.

I'm not just talking about how life adapts, or how the climate is changing.

I mean the planet itself, as an object, is in a constant state of flux -- because the ground beneath

your feet is always moving.

So, the place where you are right now was not always … there.

For example, if you're watching me in California right now, then about 500 million years ago,

the place that you currently think of as "here" was actually on the equator … and it was

underwater.

Likewise, if you're in the UK, then your "here" was almost at the South Pole.

And your next door neighbor was Africa.

We know all of this thanks to paleogeography, the study of how the physical face of

Earth has transformed over time.

And it's this movement of the continents that has driven many of the ma jor revolutions

in life's history -- its advances and its setbacks, its explosions of life and its extinction

events.

So, if natural history is the study of how we got here, then you also have to understand

how here got here.

If you wanna know how your "here" got to be where it is, you first have to know

where land comes from, and how it behaves.

And for a long time, we just didn't know.

The idea that the continents could actually move was first proposed in 1912, by German

scientist Alfred Wegener.

He spent years traveling the world, collecting geological and fossil evidence to argue that

all of the continents were once connected.

Wegener was the first to propose the idea of continental drift -- and the notion was

so outlandish at the time that it basically cost him his career.

And part of why no one accepted Wegener's theory was that no one in his day had ever

seen the bottom of the ocean.

Until the mid-20th century, most scientists assumed that the seafloor was basically featureless,

like a giant wading pool.

But in the 1950s and 60s, pioneering researchers like Marie Tharp and Bruce Heezen began studying

the bottom of the ocean.

And they found that there was an enormous mountain range running through the middle

of the Atlantic.

Eventually, more of these undersea mountain ranges, called mid-ocean ridges, were found

in all the world's oceans, and they all were volcanically active.

These ridges, it turned out, are where the seafloor is made.

Geologists realized that these mid-ocean volcanoes are actively creating the rocky material of

the seafloor and spreading it outward, in a process called seafloor spreading.

But what the sea gives, it also takes away.

Far from these ridges, at the edges of continents, researchers also found huge trenches.

And here, the dense rocks of the seafloor dive below the lighter rocks of the continents,

in a process called subduction.

So the denser, heavier crust that makes up the seafloor -- known as the oceanic crust

-- moves under the lighter landmasses, known as the continental crust, just a few centimeters

at a time.

And as the oceanic crust sinks back into Earth's interior, it begins to melt and mix with the

mantle.

So, seafloor spreading and subduction are the two primary mechanisms behind plate tectonics

-- the theory of how giant chunks of Earth's crust, called plates, move around the surface.

And together, they explain what Alfred Wegener never could -- they show us HOW the continents

of our planet come together and break apart.

But Wegener was right -- throughout the planet's history, land masses have been joining together

to form supercontinents, only to break up again millions of years later.

Supercontinents begin to separate when the mantle that's churning around beneath them

starts to change -- like, in direction, or temperature, or intensity.

These kinds of changes, we think, can cause plates that were once pushed together, to

gradually spread apart.

When plates separate, they first create a rift valley, like the Great Rift Valley in

Africa.

Then, as they keep spreading apart, they can form narrow seas, which is how the Red Sea

came to be.

Eventually, these gaps can open up to become a whole new ocean -- that's actually how

the Atlantic Ocean formed.

This whole process of continents coming together and splitting apart is known as the supercontinent

cycle, and IT is what has changed the face of Earth over the eons.

Now, you've probably heard of Pangaea, the landmass that contained almost all of Earth's

dry land about a quarter billion years ago.

For a long time, experts thought it was the world's first supercontinent.

But today we know it wasn't the first.

And it won't be the last!

One of the earliest supercontinents that scientists have evidence for is called Kenorland.

It existed 2.7 to 2.5 billion years ago, toward the very end of the Archaean Eon.

It was made of continental crust that would eventually become parts of North America and

Africa.

And even though we call it a supercontinent, Kenorland actually wasn't much bigger than

Australia is today.

Life on Earth at the time of Kenorland was probably mostly single-celled, like the photosynthetic

cyanobacteria that were starting to add oxygen to the atmosphere.

Then, 700 million years after Kenorland spread apart, another supercontinent began to form

called Nuna, or Columbia depending who you ask.

The northern reaches of Nuna included land that would eventually become North America

and Antarctica.

And in the south were the cores of South America and Africa.

Nuna existed from 1.8 to 1.4 billion years ago, in the middle of the Proterozoic Eon.

And it's here where we find fossils of the earliest plant-like organisms, red algae,

which lived in a shallow sea in what's now India.

Nuna broke apart, but the fragments came back together about 100 million years later.

This new continent, called Rodinia, was the first supercontinent that geologists found

had existed before Pangaea.

And geologists were able to reconstruct Rodinia after they noticed that Labrador on Canada's

east coast fit quite nicely into the west coast of South America.

Rodinia broke apart about 900 million years ago, and shortly after that, the world was

plunged into another long ice age.

About 650 million years ago, the next supercontinent, called Pannotia, came together.

And here the first animals are found in the fossil record, living in coastal waters from

the poles to the equator.

First came the mysterious Ediacaran fauna, and then the animals that mark the Cambrian

Explosion.

Animals probably didn't live on Pannotia, though, because no fossils have been found

in terrestrial rocks from that time.

But the land wasn't lifeless -- it had likely been colonized by pioneering bacteria, algae,

and then, the fungi!

After Pannotia broke up, about 550 million years ago, the continents began looking more

like the world we recognize.

470 million years ago, in the Ordovician Period, the first plants began to live on land.

The earliest plant fossils have been found in South America, which was part of the continent

of Gondwana.

Then, 420 million years ago, in the late Silurian, the first millipedes crawled through the undergrowth

on a separate continent just north of Gondwana.

And it's known by the catchy portmanteau Euramerica, because it contained parts of both North America

and Europe.

Euramerica is also where the earliest fossils of insects have been found, about 20 million

years later.

Then, toward the end of the Devonian Period, 365 million years ago, the first amphibians

left the swamps to explore the ancient forests that would later form the coal deposits

of Europe and North America.

And the earliest amniotes, vertebrates that lay shelled eggs on land, showed up 310 million

years ago, right before the formation of the most famous and most recent supercontinent,

Pangaea.

Pangaea began to form 300 million years ago, at the end of the Carboniferous, when North

America and Eurasia, together known as Laurasia, collided with Gondwana.

And, because there were no oceans in their way, animals were free to roam all over Pangaea,

which is why similar species are found in areas all over the world in this time.

But life there wasn't exactly a picnic.

Because Pangea was so incredibly huge, moisture from the oceans couldn't reach the interior,

which made most inland regions pretty much uninhabitable.

And of course, making things even less picnicky were ... two really terrible mass extinctions.

First was the Permian-Triassic extinction 252 million years ago -- aka the Great Dying.

It was probably caused by a series of massive volcanic eruptions from fissures in Pangea

in what's now Siberia.

These eruptions likely set coalfields on fire and dumped massive amounts of CO2 into the

atmosphere and oceans.

The super-hot air and super-acidic rain and seas that followed killed almost everything.

Fifty million years later, the Triassic came to a close with another mass extinction, wiping

out a huge number of crocodile and mammal relatives.

This too seems to have been caused by volcanic activity, only this time as North America

started to break away from the rest of Pangaea.

But among the survivors were the dinosaurs, and as Pangaea broke apart, dinosaurs on different

continents became isolated and developed into vastly different forms.

The semi-aquatic spinosaurids, for example, lived on the remnants of Gondwana.

Meanwhile, horned dinosaurs like Triceratops almost all lived in North America.

Then, after the K-Pg Extinction wiped out the non-avian dinosaurs 66 million years ago,

it was mammals' turn.

Living on isolated continents like the dinosaurs once did, they too diversified into lots of

different and weird forms.

Finally, those isolated continents came into contact again in the last 5 to 10 million

years, allowing annimals to cross newly formed land bridges into new environments

ones we can recognize pretty well today.

But of course, things keep moving today, just like they always have -- at a rate of about

2.5 centimeters a year in fact

And, scientists can predict how the world might look in, say, 50 million years, based

on how fast the continents are moving, and in which direction.

So, what will future Earth look like?

Well, North and South America are moving west, as the Atlantic Ocean continues to grow.

Africa is moving north and will collide with Europe, probably forming a huge mountainous

plateau, kind of like the Himalayas, where the Mediterranean Sea is now.

Australia's also moving north, and will eventually smash into the Indonesian archipelago.

But beyond the next 50 million years or so, the future becomes harder for us to see.

One theory, called Pangaea Ultima, proposes that a subduction zone will form off the east

coast of the Americas, closing off the Atlantic and forming another supercontinent like Pangaea

in about 250 million years.

Another theory, called Amasia, supposes that the Atlantic will keep getting bigger, and

that North America will join Europe and Asia at the North Pole.

And a third theory, called Novopangaea, envisions a future Earth that's similar to Amasia

but with the Pacific Ocean closed off, as Australia and Antarctica move into the former

ocean basin.

By then, of course -- a quarter billion years from now -- our descendents and the other

descendants of the modern world, will have evolved and diversified to occupy a planet

that looks totally different.

But they'll be along for the same ride that we're on today, as forces deep within the

Earth cause our idea of "here" to slowly drift, just as it has for billions of years.

People Clowned Rajon Rondo for Wearing Velcro Shoes to Cavs/Celtics Game - Duration: 2:07.

What's up, guys?

Pierce Simpson here for Complex News.

On Sunday afternoon, Paul Pierce had his jersey retired at the TD Garden in Boston during

what was supposed to be a monumental event for both him and the Celtics.

But unfortunately for Pierce, things did not go according to plan.

For whatever reason, the Celtics scheduled the jersey retirement ceremony for after a

game against the Cavaliers.

And while that would have been fine if the Celtics had pulled out a win over Cleveland,

Boston got destroyed during the contest and ended up losing to the new-look Cavs by more

than 20 points.

As a result, Pierce spent most of the fourth quarter sitting around impatiently waiting

for the game to end, and in the process, social media turned him into a meme.

It had many people wondering why the Celtics didn't choose to hold the jersey retirement

ceremony either before the game or at halftime, when the Celtics and their fans would have

actually been in the mood to celebrate.

But for as bad as Pierce's day end up going, it could turned out much worse.

He ended up getting ridiculed by those watching the game at home, but as it turned out, Pierce

didn't catch quite as much slack as his former Celtics teammate Rajon Rondo did.

Rondo and the New Orleans Pelicans played in a hard-fought game against the Brooklyn

Nets on Saturday night that went all the way to double overtime.

But Rondo didn't let that stop him from boarding a flight to Boston where he sat next

to his former teammate Kevin Garnett and former head coach Doc Rivers during the game on Sunday.

Rondo was clearly set on showing love to Pierce on his big day.

But when he got dressed for the game, Rondo decided to wear a pair of sneakers with Velcro

on them, and of course, that set NBA Twitter on fire with hundreds of people commenting

on Rondo's choice of shoes for the game.

The NBA sent out a tweet featuring a photo of KG, Rondo, and Rivers shortly after the

contest started, and as soon as people caught a glimpse of what Rondo was wearing on his

feet, he got roasted.

One Twitter user described the sneakers as looking like "my grandfathers new balances

with some paw prints on the soles."

Another called them "AARP 3s."

Some suggested it looked like Rondo had scored a sneaker deal with Big Baller Brand, while

others called the sneakers some variation of "The Timeshare in Boca Raton 11s."

Eventually, the Cavaliers/Celtics game came to an end and Pierce did what he came to do.

He watched as his jersey number was retired into the rafters at the TD Garden, and he

officially became a part of the Celtics' storied history.

But not before he had to share the spotlight for awhile.

On a day when Pierce was supposed to take center stage, Rondo's sneakers somehow managed

to upstage him and steal the show.

not only are the theme-park wars continuing to heat up but they're going

global as we have some interesting new developments from Disney that were just

announced at d23 Japan they are alight on other announcements they had a

Kingdom Hearts announcement that got a lot of attention but they didn't have

any of the big movie reveals but they have a lot of movie reveals when it

comes to theme park planning now let's back up a little bit here for those of

you who are new to the theme park wars that's the idea to get people who

normally wouldn't go to a theme park to go and Universal was the real

game-changer there for decades since pretty much theme parks well the level

they operate today were invented by Walt Disney himself

they were dominant in the field but then Universal came along with the Wizarding

World of Harry Potter and suddenly people who swore they would never go to

a stupid theme park found themselves happily coughing up wads of cash so a

Disney has been looking to leverage their own more adult male friendly

brands you know of course women like these new editions as well but they have

been working very hard to get guys more interested in and attending the theme

parks now you might also be wondering where the heck is the DC properties in

all this right well for some reason Warner Brothers continues to only

leverage them at Six Flags theme parks with pretty much no theming but they are

putting a better foot forward and Dubai where they're doing extensive theming

with an upcoming theme park they've recently announced a Green Lantern ride

of all things although it rips off Sauron technology from Disney which i

think is interesting don't they have a patent on that I don't

know how that's possible and then they're gonna have a Justice League ride

there which is pretty much the exact same technology that's used at Universal

Studios so they're ripping off all the theme parks when it comes to their

spider-man and transformers rides although I have to say that technology

is pretty cool and I wonder why Disney never ripped it off I don't know you

know maybe Disney's trying to hold their head I but you can see the gloves are

coming off more and more also Disney's already had some success with Pandora

the world of Pandora at Animal Kingdom he literally successful features the

best ride I've ever been on flights of passage at content

used to have a four-hour line that's a universal level line and I'm thinking of

Black Panther does really well as is expected

maybe we'll get a Wakanda land and into animal kingdom it seems like a

no-brainer but that's further off these are things that we're going to discuss

today that are definitely happening now first up we got a new artist's rendering

of the immersive Star Wars Resort that's coming to Walt Disney World but we also

got finally a location on the resort property and that's going to be right

next to Disney's Hollywood Studios where they're building galaxies edge because

it says that the hotel will be attached to the theme park to allow guaranteed

access for guests because I think this will be the first land cuz right now

anyone can walk into pandora whenever they want it's just the ride itself that

has a very long line but if you want to get into Wizarding World of Harry Potter

sometimes you have to stand on a line to get into the land itself and I think

this will be the first time that happens at a Disney property very exciting but

also potentially quite frustrating if you've planned your whole trip around

getting into galaxies edge but you can solve all that by staying at the Star

Wars hotel if you haven't heard about this yet it's again an immersive

experience where you will probably be having to sign up for a two-day package

and then you can transfer to another resort if you want to stay longer and

you'll be placed into an actual storyline and you have the option of

even dressing up in character it sounds pretty freakin amazing and if it does

well enough I'm sure Disney won't do other immersive

experiences as well other theme parks you know they'll get copied all right

now also at Walt Disney World Rolla keeping well they're keeping the same

exterior it's crazy how cheap Disney can be sometimes the inside of the former

Ellen's energy adventure will get a total makeover as it becomes a guardians

of the galaxy rollercoaster now it's being called a quote-unquote family

attraction which likely means an all-ages roller coaster but one that

promises an innovative ride system sure to quote-unquote Wow guests this is

where there's some kind of weird loading or movement in the ride to make it

really stand out for instance an innovative ride system with the

snow-white roller coaster that they currently have opened an Magic Kingdom

very popular also has a very long Disney has fast past though you can book

a reservation in advance if you're staying at the hotel you get earlier

access if you have an annual pass you get a shorter window but you still get

advance access but anyway that has cars that have like this weird swivel you

know in addition to running on the track so I'm thinking something like that it

could also maybe be something a little bit like crushes coaster in Paris where

the ride itself spins in an opposite direction of the track for the roller

coaster haha super barfy I rode that when I was at Disneyland Paris this past

summer then you know it actually was a lot of fun it was not - barfy now this

is just part of what is a park-wide makeover for Epcot which in addition to

the guardians of the galaxy ride and the frozen ride which just recently opened

it was announced as getting Paris's ratatouille ride in addition at the

French Pavilion now I'm wondering with all these changes will the park still

retain its educational aspects I think that's always been one of the nicest

things about Epcot but of course they have to make sure people want to go

there especially as universal forces people to have to make tougher and

tougher decisions economically about what theme parks they can afford to go

to all right now Epcot used to have a secret weapon and that they only served

alcohol in the Disney property beyond the resorts at World Showcase but now

you can get alcohol anywhere in the Disney and any Disney theme park so I've

got no longer has it not going for them also we got a look at the alien swirling

saucers which is opening this summer as part of the new Toy Story land and

Hollywood studios that was revealed to be the least visited park even less than

Animal Kingdom so that's why it's getting both Toy Story land and galaxy's

edge in 2019 then over on the west coast we have more pixar news as we got a

better idea what Pixar pier will look like this was the former Paradise Pier

which is now totally pixar themed it will have neighborhoods representing Toy

Story because it has Toy Story Mania there that's the big ride in that

section of the park also inside out which i think is an interesting choice

and of course the Incredibles and the other big attraction in that land the

roller coaster they have there that is getting reskin in a fashion likely

similar to I think Space Mountain was recently

reskin to become star wars-themed at Disneyland that's pretty good you know

you can't beat having Star Wars music when you're in there but it's a very

light Reese skinning also The Incredibles are getting a float added to

the paint the night parade but unfortunately it's just from this

concept art you can see that there's no hints about the upcoming sequel right it

just seems to be that transition at the very last scene of the first film which

we've been told will be the first scene of the second film and in Disneyland

Paris is getting a heavy dose of Marvel the hotel New York will have several

rooms redone to be now dubbed the art of Marvel and we'll have Marvel branding

within its again it's a light branding but they're hoping it's enough to entice

you I mean if it's not Stark Enterprises right or I don't know caps bunker that

would be even better we're just the Avengers building right

perhaps if the Star Wars immersive experience works out but right now it's

just the art of Marvel but then rock and roller coaster will also be rescanned

Avengers style and at least for now Robert Downey jr. is still managing to

be front and center just to see is with the marlowe ride in Hong Kong now for

those of you who are wondering like hey Hollywood Studios has a rock and roller

coaster is it gonna get reskin I don't think anytime soon because of that

exclusive exclusive deal at Universal has four islands of adventure with their

own marvel land I don't know how they're getting around that with guardians of

the galaxy maybe they're so you know off the main characters of Marvel it works

out but I don't know why Disney with all the money that they're willing to spend

you know sometimes we'll talk about the treatments of rescanning in just a

minute why they do it but they spend the money if they absolutely need to and I

don't know why they haven't wrestled that away from Universal or paid for it

you know just aggressively written a check to get the Marvel characters at

the Orlando Resort because it's still their biggest property today although

Shanghai is pretty freakin big as well now again why reskin why not just build

new rides from the ground up well because it's not only cheaper but faster

I mean you can see how long it's taking to build Star Wars Galaxies edge right

that's such a big potential goldmine for Disney other they're willing to make

that from the ground up effort but in the other instances if you take a ride

that's already has it has a building and a set track well then Disney can turn it

into a new attraction relatively quickly sometimes it's clear

a quick rescanning again like Space Mountain and then sometimes I think you

have a situation like guardians of the galaxy and Disneyland where they took

the Tower of Terror and it seems like they forced one concept on to another

The Lying part of the attraction I think works pretty darn well

but I think that once the ride gets going they kind of sucked all the magic

out of it except for rocket rocket is Rocket Raccoon is awesome they did a

very nice job of that animatronic but frozen even though fans of the original

Norway ride can totally see the ghost of that when they ride it myself included I

think overall it's quite as successful rescanning so here's hoping that that

will be the case with these attractions so I'm wondering how does this all sound

to you from hardcore theme park fans like myself to those of you who are non

fans do you think this might finally get you to go to a Disney theme park you

know they did just raise their prices and also do you think that Warner

Brothers has a huge missed opportunity here not either opening their own theme

parks you know beyond Dubai or licensing it to Universal which is you know very

eager to get properties to better to keep competing with Disney as Disney ups

the game on there and you know I think for a while they were thinking of maybe

getting Hunger Games at Universal perhaps but that never panned out I

think that's it news I hope that Universal because you know Harry Potter

isn't Warner Brothers property I hope that they're reaching out to Warner

Brothers saying please give us the DC properties to create another land at our

theme parks we already have the infrastructure and the people coming for

the Harry Potter experience already but then you have to wonder Warner Brothers

is like why don't we build our own theme parks too late you already gave up Harry

Potter let's just build up the IP and I'm sure you think it cut of the profits
