How to Continue a Conversation with WH Questions (English Speaking) - Duration: 5:54.

Hi, everyone.

Welcome to SandJ English.

Today we will compare two conversations first.

Please watch them

and decide which one is more fun for the speakers.

What's your hobby?

I like playing volleyball.

What's your hobby?

I like playing volleyball.

That's cool.

How often do you play?

I practice twice a week with my friends.

I'd like to play with you.

Where do you practice?

I think we agree that the second conversation was more fun.

Jenny asked Sasha many questions about her hobby

and both of them enjoyed the talk.

Some students don't know how to continue a conversation and what to say.

They have a chance to talk to a foreigner.

But they stay quiet.

In this lesson we will practice making WH questions.

WH questions are simple,

but very useful.

They help us to continue a conversation easily and enjoy talking in English.

Now let's try to create a conversation together.

What do you do on weekends?

I go shopping, watch a movie or exercise.

Jenny likes to go shopping.

How can Sasha continue this conversation?

She can ask about a place.

Where do you go shopping?

I go shopping on 5th Avenue.

We often go shopping with someone,

so Sasha can ask a question starting with "who".

Who do you usually go shopping with?

I usually go shopping with my sister.

Jenny also likes to watch movies,

so Sasha can ask about this topic too.

What kind of movies do you like?

I like science fiction.

How often do you watch movies?

I watch a movie once a month.

Jenny also mentioned exercising

and Sasha wants to know more about it.

When do you go to the gym?

I go to the gym on Friday evenings.

Why do you exercise?

Because I want to lose weight.

What are you doing?

Studying English.

It's so exciting.

Is it?

When and where do you study English?

I study at Simon's language school every Saturday.

And why?

Because I want to make friends all over the world.

I have a task for you.

Look at Jenny and imagine having a conversation with her.

Try to ask her as many WH questions as possible.

When did you last go on a date with Mike?

Last weekend.

What did you do?

We rented a boat and Mike took me to see dolphins.

That's amazing.

Where did you go?

I don't know

But I don't want to go again.

Why not?

Because I fell in the sea.

When I noticed I was sitting on a dolphin

and it took me back to the harbor.
