Hey guys welcome back to my channel so I wanted to come on here today and film an updated skincare routine because
Recently in the last month and half since I filmed my last melasma video
I've actually changed everything and it's working for me, so I thought I would share it with you today
And if you're interested in how I am getting completely rid of my melasma
I mean I'm conquering it you guys and also how I am getting through
The kind of dreaded phase of retin-a where you are dry you're a little bit
Scaly you're flakey all of that kind of stuff. I have got some good products and tips
recommendations for how to get you through that so that you can make it to the goal which is long term tretinoin use but I
recognize and realize that
treta no and retin-a is
the number one way that I'm also going to
anti age with any kind of cream potion anything
I mean It's it's the one but if you're wondering what retina is it is a vitamin a derivative that has been studied for decades
That is actually proven to help to stimulate collagen it helps with acne and it helps to
Retrain yourselves to behave the way that they're supposed to behave if you're looking for the miracle
You're probably not gonna find it in
you know dead sea kelp or
Some of those other things companies are gonna charge you $300 for I have fallen for that myself over the years
What I've come to realize now. This is the only thing you guys it's the only thing. That's truly on a cellular level
Going to change your skin
So first of all I started the new dirham system not long after I made my last melasma video
I and what their system consists of is several steps
They are numbered and it is basically a targeted system for getting rid of pigmentation and basically
Just giving yourself new skin you are going to reveal
completely a new
skin in about three months first of all I am washing my face with the gentle cleanser from Obagi I
Love this cleanser it has a very fantastic smell great
pH and
It just gently cleans my skin does not leave me tight or dry second thing that I am supposed to be doing is a toner
I'm gonna be honest and tell you that I don't do it
I I just don't do it then go in with step. Three which is called clear
Now clear is a 4% hydroquinone
hydroquinone is a tyrosine a's
Inhibitor and that is the enzyme that is responsible for pigment
It's and there's much longer scientific explanation than that but in a nutshell
It's got to do with producing pigment and it inhibits that and so it keeps your pigment down
okay, so then step four in the morning I
am using a product called expert erm expert on is basically an
exfoliator obviously from the name and it contains a phytic acid
Phytic acid is a very very gentle acid. It's able to be used while you're sensitized and you're going through this process
okay, so then in the morning I move on to my
moisturizers from there
This is where I deviate a little bit from Obagi you guys I am back to using my sicily black rose cream
This cream is amazing
It is a really thin cream, but it gives you some serious hydration and that is what you need when you are into the retin-a
extra norm into all of that you need hydration
so I put this on and I really let it soak in and
It's just I can't sing it sprays this does not and then I'm going in with
My sunscreen which is obviously super important and my elta MD. UV clear is my choice and it's under $30
It's a fantastic price point this is such an amazing sunscreen
Okay, so now what I do after that and I mean is I have been using the it cosmetics CC
illumination cream it's what I have on today and
It's got SPF 50 the reason why I really like the first of all I really like the color
I love the illumination when I'm dry
I'm going through the tri phase of retin-a and I feel like this gives me a little bit of a boost of luminosity and
Also, I like that it's SPF 50 because I am already putting my SPF 46 for my l2m Dion
But I feel like an extra layer, never function
They do make it obviously also in a non illuminated version
But it is excellent you guys it comes in a squeezy tube with a pump
It's just an excellent option and it on to the night time so at night
I go ahead and I do I cleanse again with my gentle cleanser. I am often taking my Clarisse duh sometimes
This is in the morning, but I take my clarita and take a very small amount and I take a little
If you can see that it is a tiny little nubby
Silicon thing that you can hold it kind of like one of those pop sockets
And I very very gently use my Cleary stun, and I exfoliate
All the flakes off of my face
I take a good minute and a half with my Clarisse tub because it is a keratin soluble Iser
And it genuinely just dissolves all of the flakes that the retin-a and Exeter and all that kind of stuff it
Dissolves them and then they become waters water soluble, and you literally just rinse them away it is so amazing and this is why?
I'm just easily sticking with this program after that. I do go back in with my step three, and they're all numbered you guys so
Honestly, it's pretty easy because you get to look at the at the container and see the number so you so eventually you just know
What you're doing anyway?
But in the beginning when it kind of seems confusing you've got numbers to help you and you also have it says AM PM and
Some of them say only a.m.
Some of them say only PM and so it's very clear what you're supposed to be using morning and night
So at night after I've cleansed and everything I put another small layer of the clear the hydroquinone 4% on my face
And I go down my neck because I have had some really serious solar damage on my neck as well now
I'm going into my Tretton Owen step so at my tretinoin step. I'm actually mixing it with a product
Blender now the cool thing about blender is it is also
4% hydroquinone
But it's in an emollient base, and so you actually take your blender and you put it from
Like this
from the line of your finger to the end of your fingers, okay, then you take your Trent noan and
in the beginning especially
You do like a third okay?
So you can see so you have this line from the you know line of your finger up to the end
And then you take your truck knowing and you do it like a third
Eventually you do it happen half and pretty soon you just do them equal parts
That is how you learn how to do the right amount of treta knowin?
It's it is a way to measure it out
Where a pea-sized can kind of be a little bit difficult this way?
and then I literally take it you guys and I go like this and
Put it on the back of my hand and you can see it's not a ton of product right I mix it up
Not a ton
And then I put it all over my face
The fact that you are able to mix the threatenin with the blender and give it a little bit more product to work with
makes it spread so easily all over your face and
You're getting an extra boost of hydroquinone
But more importantly you're able to spread your retin-a all over your face without trying to use more retin-a than you're supposed to
one of the biggest
Problems with threatenin usage is over usage using too much product or using it too often
either one of those can cause some serious
Irritation so it's really really important that you don't use too much well
It's really difficult to use such a little amount and get it everywhere you want to get it so
People tend to go back in these a little more and that kind of stuff and pretty soon
You've got too much on your face
And you eared you get irritated and you quit
so the blender
Actually gives you more product to work with and you end up me and we'll spread it around your face
you get the added hydroquinone and
It just makes it a lot more user friendly you have to
Really build your tolerance into retin-a, and that is so important if you overdo it
You end up so dry so irritated so miserable that you want to quit so
Don't go in guns blazing. That's a huge huge
tip because even right now
I'm I'm flaking I used this this morning
My skin was smooth the babies, but it looked amazing and you know these products are doing their job
I'm supposed to be peeling I'm supposed to I'm working new skin
And that's the idea you're suppressing with your hydroquinone that tyrosinase you're suppressing the pigment
But with the retin-a I'm turning over new cells
I am teaching those cells how to behave properly
And I'm encouraging new collagen production
So all of those things happening you end up with new skin that doesn't have the excess of pigment because of the hydroquinone
Now I will tell you
Hydroquinone is a controversial product as well. I'm fine with it
But there are natural art alternatives. They are not as effective there
Just aren't however
They there are great ways to cycle off of hydroquinone because you should not use it long term
You should not use it just all the time forever, so I would say at three to four months
I would cycle up my hydroquinone for three to four to five months probably three months
And I would go in alpha our butan I might go on licorice. You know some of these other
natural or non hydroquinone
brighteners
To hopefully hold me tight till I go back on my hydroquinone in my mind
There isn't anything quite as good as hydroquinone. I know that lots of people disagree with me, but that's just me
It is a miracle worker for my skin anybody who's been watching me for a while
You've got to know that
My skin, I mean just four or five months ago. I was covered in
Hyperpigmentation in patches. I mean covered and
this is
Clearing it the one thing that I have to stress is you have to wear sunscreen you have to wear sunscreen
No, ifs ands or buts you have to
To me you're just doing yourself harm
If you don't even if you're not retin-a and you're concerned about aging you need a sunscreen
it's the number one thing that you should be using it's more important than any cream or
Any wash or any acid it's the most important thing that you can do is consistently wear sunscreen
But even more so important when you are going to attack your melasma. Hyperpigmentation
anti-aging kind of stuff
With any of these things that I'm talking about if you're ever using an acid you have to have a sunscreen if you're ever using
Retin-a you have to have a sunscreen if you're going for a chemical peel sunscreen getting a micro-needling
Sunscreen oh you're gonna get a microdermabrasion
sunscreen oh
You wanted to dermaplane sunscreen? I think you probably get the idea, right?
Okay, I hope you guys enjoyed this video me
I'm happy to help with any questions that you might have about all of this
I know that it can get confusing, but once you learn the process
It's well worth it and it's not as confusing as it first appears
and I wish you guys the merriest of Christmases if you celebrate and
Just in general. I hope that you're spending good time with your family. I'm actually I'm actually at my in-laws right now and
we're just we've been spending a lot of good time together and
Yeah, so I hope that you are doing the same, and I thank you so very much for watching if you're new here
I would love it if you would subscribe and I will talk to you again very soon
