Hundreds of thousands rally for unified Spain - Duration: 1:34.Spain's control over Catalonia is put to the test.
Politicians and civil servants return to work when uncertainty lingers following the central
government's move to stop the region's independence bid.
The public's reponse to the direct rule imposed by Barcelona was seen and heard loud and clear
as well.
Won Jung-hwan takes a closer look.
Hundreds of thousands of supporters of a unified Spain took to the streets of Barcelona on
Sunday... after Catalonia was stripped of its autonomy for declaring independence a
few days before.
It was one of the biggest shows of force, and it is becoming more apparent that not
everyone in Catalonia wants secession, despite a referendum earlier this month.
Waving Spanish flags and singing "Viva Espana", protesters on Sunday turned out in the largest
display of support for a united Spain since the beginning of the crisis.
These anti-independence supporters had been fragmented and lethargic for a long time but
the independence push seems to have awakened them, especially in the wealthy northeastern
region.
Many of those attending the rally even called for the sacked Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont
to be jailed.
He was dismissed as Madrid took control of Catalan institutions and dissolved the region's
parliament.
The Catalan leadership, however, is refusing to give in, saying it does not recognize the
orders from the Spanish central government.
Catalans are now set to vote for a new regional parliament on December 21st.

Experiencing The Joy of the Lord - Duration: 4:14.Joy is not depended on any person, situation or circumstance in this World.
Joy comes from God and we experience it the most when we are in His will.
[INTRO MUSIC]
Hello Beloved and welcome to Beloved Women with me Christina Patterson where we encourage
uplift and equip women in the love of Jesus Christ and the truth of God's Word.
If you're new here welcome!
I post new encouragement every week so be sure to subscribe so you never miss a video!
And for those of you returning, welcome back!
We're continuing our series called "Matters of the Heart" as we work our way through the
Psalms to help us develop and maintain emotional wellness by learning how to process our emotions
in a healthy way.
Today I want to talk about the pleasurable emotion of joy and how we can get more of
it in our lives.
Psalms 119:1-2 tells us:
"Joyful are people of integrity, who follow the instructions of the Lord.
Joyful are those who obey his laws and search for him with all their hearts."
- Psalms 119:1-2 NLT
The beautiful thing about joy is that it does not come from what we do or what we have.
So often we strive, and manipulate and control to make ourselves feel more happy.
But joy is deeper than that.
Joy is not depended on any person, situation or circumstance in this World.
Joy comes from God and we experience it the most when we are in His will.
The problem is letting go of that controlling spirit we have so we actually can be in God's
will is more challenging than we'd like to admit.
And we want to be in control of our own lives because we want to know what going to happen,
we don't want any surprises, especially bad ones.
But the truth of the matter is we want to be in control because we trust ourselves with
our lives more than we truth God.
Now when our plans match God's plans this is not so much a problem right?
But when things seem to talk an unexpected turn and life is not playing out like we thought
it would we question if God really knows what He's doing.
But Isaiah 55:9 reminds us:
As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my
thoughts than your thoughts.
– Isaiah 55:9 NIV
If we want to be in God's will we have to be willing to surrender to God's plans even
over our own.
And we have to believe that even though things may not make sense to us, God knows what He's
doing.
But when we finally let go of control it frees up space in our hearts for God's joy because
what this does is, it takes the pressure off of us trying to manufacture happiness in this
broken world and grants us a joy this world could never offer us in the first place.
Jesus did not have a 5 year plan.
He woke up every day ready to do the will of His Father.
It pleased Jesus to please His Father.
Jesus wasn't worried about when He was going to find His bae or get promoted or get that
degree.
He was focused on one thing: the will of His Father whatever that was.
And He found joy in doing so.
Psalm 40:4 tells us:
Oh, the joys of those who trust the LORD, who have no confidence in the proud or in
those who worship idols.
– Psalm 40:4 NLT
And Psalm 19: 8 tells us:
The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes.
– Psalm 19:8 NIV
When we choose to live outside of God's will for our lives we forfeit the joy that
our hearts desperately need.
So today I want you to make a choice, will you settle for your own plans and temporary
happiness, or will you commit to trusting God with your life in exchange for His everlasting
joy?

Foundation of Korea's democracy movements - April 19th Revolution - Duration: 6:17.This month, last year, candlelight vigils were held in the capital, making it loud and
clear the public will not stand for a president mired in a power abuse scandal.
The people of this nation have been through many tumultuous periods throughout history.
Naturally, taking a stand in the name of democracy is not something new.
Oh Jung-hee takes us back to 1960... for Korea's very first recorded pro-democracy movement.
In October 2016, tens of thousands of Koreans began holding peaceful rallies in Seoul's
Gwanghwamun Square,... demanding then-President Park Geun-hye be impeached for a massive corruption
scandal.
The past weekend marked the one-year anniversary of the rallies,... and citizens gathered,
once again, in central Seoul... to remind themselves of the historic event.
(Stand-up) "This time last year, millions of Korean citizens
stood right here with their candles.
But that wasn't the first time in Korean history that people have gathered here.
This is also where, six decades ago, tens of thousands of Koreans came to express their
yearnings for democracy."
On April 19th, 1960,... thousands of Korean citizens took to the streets to topple the
Rhee Syng-man administration.
Rhee, who had already been president for three terms by revising the constitution,... rigged
the election to stay in power,... and government-linked gangs suppressed anti-government protests.
This sparked anger nationwide,... and on April 19th, Seoul citizens gathered near the City
Hall area.
(Korean) "The event is very important for understanding
Korea's civil society and democracy.
The April 19th revolution is even mentioned in Korea's constitution.
The movement best symbolizes Korea's current democracy, and therefore has to be remembered."
In the nearby communication ministry building was Louis L. Thomas Junior,... an American
who worked for the ministry to help rebuild Korea's communication infrastructure.
He saw the demonstrations for himself from the third floor,... and left a journal and
photos of the scene -- some taken by himself, others collected.
He recorded... the protest started out peacefully,... with people singing, listening to speeches...
and chanting in an organized manner.
(English) -1 <By now it seemed to me that the whole area
was one solid sea of humanity.
... By now the student groups were mixed, middle school, high school, and college.
The groups in front remained as groups and under control, and on numerous occasions I
noted spectators bring buckets of water for them to drink.>
(Korean) "( )First, college students from almost all
of the universities in Seoul participated in the demonstration.
( )And then high school students also appeared.
Students didn't differentiate themselves by the schools they belonged to.
They marched forward, singing all together."
But tensions rose as people started writing petitions with their blood,... and buildings
including the Seoulshinmun Daily office and police box were set on fire.
Citizens threw stones at the police box and the police came out with guns to try and control
the protesters,... but one officer was grabbed by the crowd and beaten to death.
The atmosphere turned completely violent.
(English) -2 <The mob seemed to disperse and seek shelter.
The personnel carriers were followed by a number of police on foot and in jeeps.
It was at this time that the police began to appear along the streets and all appeared
to be armed, whereas before, none had weapons in sight.>
The person who offered Mr. Thomas's photos and journal to Arirang... is his daughter
Ms. Jayne Holmes.
She says... her father had kept the photos and his journal in a photo album... and often
talked about them with other people.
(English ) "As I was looking at all those things that
he had done in Korea, and all the things he had seen, I thought, you know, this is really
part of the Korean history.
And I thought that I needed to share them with the Korean people.
I would hope that these photos would go to a place where Korean people could see them
and understand what went on at that time in their history… and be able to look back
at where they were and where they are today."
(Korean) "( )Compared to the well-known photos of April
19th Revolution,... there are a few that showed the same scenes but from different angles.
There are also( ) some that I've never seen before.
The fact that a foreigner like him left records like these, I suppose,... is because he might
have perceived... that this part of history is very significant.
We can see how he looked at the South Korean society back then... in regards to the humankind's
universal value of democracy."
As Rhee remained reluctant to step down from his post for another week,... this time, professors
from all across the country started their marches on April 26th.
Citizens and students joined the force,... and Rhee finally decided to resign.
During the April 19th revolution, almost 200 people were killed in clashes with the police
and soldiers.
But successfully ousting then-President Rhee,... the protests are now remembered as the foundation
of Korea's democracy movements... where the 'people' took the lead in rooting out corruption
and dictatorship.
(Stand-up) "Throughout the decades, Korean people have
taken to the streets several times to fight for democracy,... from the 4.19 movement right
up to last year's massive candlelight vigils.
Inheriting that spirit and appreciating each and every success will be the key to further
advancing our democracy.
Oh Jung-hee, Arirang News."

Pres. Moon asserts need for social dialogue and effort for economic paradigm shift - Duration: 2:13.Our starting point at this hour.
What should follow the positive numbers we've been getting with regards to the local economy.
President Moon Jae-in highlighted the importance of making sure all levels of society benefit
from that growth.
He pointed out close coordination between labor, management and government as key to
achieving that goal.
Hwang Hojun has our top story.
President Moon declared Monday that South Korea's economy is at a very significant turning
point.
Meeting with his top aides, President Moon noted that economic growth in the 3rd quarter
reached one-point-four percent in spite of external and internal difficulties, including
North Korea's nuclear provocations.
And that, he said, puts the government's goal of three-percent growth for the year comfortably
within reach.
Notably, the figure of 3-percent was recently revised upwards by four tenths of a percentage
point from a previous estimate in July.
He credited the hard work of both business and labor as well as his administration's
consistent economic policy.
But he warned the government against complacency.
(KOREAN) "Now what's important is to focus on increasing
the quality of our growth rather than its quantity."
( .)
President Moon said consistent economic growth will only be possible when the economic recovery
brings about more jobs and consumption.
To make sure the fruits of the recovery are enjoyed by each and every economic player,
President Moon asked his aides to do more... and to confidently pursue growth policies
based on raising incomes and innovation... with the goal of transforming the nation's
contorted growth structure.
The South Korean President also stressed that the government's efforts alone are not enough
to achieve such a shift... and asked for dialogue and participation from labor and management
as well.
(KOREAN) "Reaching a social consensus on economic and
labor policies is by no means easy, but it is the call of this age and one that we must
achieve."
( .)
(STANDUP) Also on Monday, President Moon once again
emphasized that the nation and its economy will develop -- and corporations and the labor
force will grow -- only when everyone is willing to yield, to share each other's burdens, and
seek to narrow the economic gap.
Hwang Hojun, Arirang News.
