with a point, fell to Espanyol in their last outing.

This weekend they hope to achieve their one hundred and first win in LaLiga Santander against a Valencia side

worked. Of course games like this are always a bit special, because beforehand memories inevitably come

to mind and you get asked a lot of questions about the past. But, once the whistle blows,

we're on our way and it's just another game."

The man from Navarra will have to be inventive as he's missing a number of defenders,

with Jonny receiving his fifth yellow card against Leganes and Sergi Gomez and Roncaglia both nursing

injuries which make them doubtful. A player from the team's academy, Diego Pampin,

could well be on the Camp Nou pitch as left back.

Ernesto Valverde, on the other hand, has Gerard Pique back for a game Barça know, with their rivals closing in,

they cannot afford to lose. Celta for their part will be looking to surprise everyone and continue

their steady climb up the table.

Levante who were on the end of a thorough home thrashing against Atletico Madrid last time out have

never had much luck in Malaga. In their last seven visits they have suffered a disheartening six defeats

and one draw.

Match of the Weekend: Athletic Club vs Real Madrid - Duration: 4:19.

It's one of the quintessential games of the season.

A confrontation soaked in history and tradition.

There's no denying every time Athletic and Real Madrid come up against each other at San Mames,

it's a very special fixture.

Neither of the teams are in their best form coming into this clash, but it's a perfect opportunity for both sides

to turn round their shaky progress so far this season.

Los Blancos arrive at 'The Cathedral' of Spanish football having cut the gap from Barcelona down to eight points.

However, the difficulties encountered in their game against Malaga means the team's following are still not

convinced they have found their way.

"Can we play better? Yes. "Do we have to improve our game? Yes. The thing that gets me is how easily we lost

the ball today"

The best news for Real Madrid as far as the game was concerned, was without doubt the fact that both

Benzema and Cristian regained their form in front of goal.

"It's great news for us. When our two strikers put the ball in the net it has a phenomenal effect on the team"

'Kuko' Ziganda's Athletic have also had a disappointing season so far.

After coming away with just a point from their game at Riazor last week the Lions are now fifth from bottom,

a long way off from the seventh spot they managed in last season's competition.

Moreover, Ziganda comes into the game missing a number of crucial players.

As well as the already absent Muniain and Beñat, Aymeric Laporte is suspended

so it seems likely Xabi Etxeita will be accompanying Unai Nuñez in the centre of the Bilbao defence.

Oscar De Marcos is also doubtful. After three months out he returned to the team last matchday weekend

but he had to come off after injuring a toe. Athletic's number '18', despite the setbacks is still optimistic

about their chances in the encounter.

"We're really up for this game. It's very special. We've given Madrid a hard time over the years and we intend

to carry on doing so."

"It's a great game to play in. It's always a thrill to be at home with our fans behind us and going hell for leather

against Madrid. It's an exciting match with a lot riding on it"

Another of the key players in this contest will be Kepa Arrizabalaga, who, so they say,

Madrid have had their eyes on for some time.

On the visiting side, it seems likely that Zidane will be able to count on Keylor Navas and Sergio Ramos

who were all unavailable last time out.

Encouraging news for Real Madrid's plans as they look to win for the third time in a row at San Mames.

Last year they won 2-1 with Benzema, Aduriz y Casemiro all getting on the scoresheet.

This is one of the most important away games for los merengues this season.

It's a game which demands total application and in which neither team can afford to slip up.

Tradition and necessity, the past and the present all come together in the big game of

this match weekend in LaLiga Santander.
