Rumor .. Myth .. Ignorance
Welcome to Dislike Show
Today's episode is very interesting
the topic will be about prophetic medicine
What is it exactly, what is it based on, and how reliable it is?
before we go into details
we created a voting poll on twitter about
how people would believe in prophetic medicine
even if it conflicts with tested sciences (prophetic medicine 30% proved science 70%)
we went down to the public and asked people
what they think of the so-called prophetic medicine?
-What do you think of prophetic medicine? -That's the treatment with herbal medicine.
unlike pharmaceutical drugs, it's all natural & by the Quran
we all have to believe in it
-Honestly, we have to believe in it
because our religion asks us to do so
-Prophetic medicine is what the prophet has mentioned
or has been mentioned in the Quran
I believe in wet-cupping (Hijama), black-caraway & honey
but not in camel's urine
It's a traditional medicine
apart from modern technology in medicine
by using natural herbs
by using prophet's recitation and invocation (Dua'a)
-Many people these days claim to be doctors by prescribing herbs to others
I don't believe in that honestly
-Wet cupping? -Yes I believe in it because I underwent many
wet cupping is very traditional and very old
it's from the era of the prophet companions
No I don't do it but because I heard from people so that's why
-I have read that it's the best treatment
then I thought if it didn't work
then I should move to physiotherapy and massage
-It was mentioned in the prophet's Sunnah (biography)
and by the prophet's saying (Hadith). So it's good
-Ok what If Abu-Jahal* underwent wet-cupping? (*Amr ibn Hisham, a paganist and enemy to Mohammed)
Did he? maybe he felt it was useful then he decided to try it
-What if science tells you that black-caraway causes kidney failure, Will you keep taking it?
-Yes I will because the prophet's said it is beneficial
so I won't believe that it can be harmful
-If scientific research proved that
It wouldn't be too bad NOT to take it
-First I'll make sure it was surely mentioned by the prophet
If it wasn't 100% mentioned then I would believe what science says
But if it was, I would doubt the scientific research
-There are studies conducted in USA and in developed countries in medicine
have accredited the Quran in many research areas
such as benefit of honey, wet-cupping etc
I am totally fine with that, Really I am
Ok.. Wet-cupping is good. That's the good practice of medicine
YES… YES
Masha Allah (Joy phrase: God has willed)
OK. Let's begin now
What is the definition of prophetic medicine?
It is basically a collection of the prophet's suggestions
around medications
of which he used to himself or which he prescribed to others
It came to us in a form of a hadith (prophet's sayings)
e.g. Talbina (milky flour), dates, Hinna, herbs and fruits etc.
The issue here
Those who defended prophetic medicine
proclaimed that it can cure all different types of illness!
including respiratory and orthopedic disorders & arthritis,
headache, skin disease, kidneys and liver diseases, stomachache, colitis & constipation,
sinusitis and otitis media
and certainly cancer is included in this package as well as infectious diseases!
e.g. Influenza, hepatitis and even HIV could be treated!
skin disease and cardiovascular disorders and paralysis!
even paralysis, they have a cure for it
an endless list of disorders they can cure
by the so-called prophetic medicine!
To understand the reliability of these medications
we must come to an agreement on one point
allow me to put it for you as a question
Was all what the prophet had said
or had done during his life
a revelation from God to him?
and NOT debatable?
and valid for all times?
or this point need to be clarified?
The prophet PBUH once said (You may know better of your life matters)
we need one of the trustworthy Muslim scholars to explain this hadith to us
Sheikh Mohammed bin Othaimin (Muslim Scholar): "the prophet has taught his nation"
"what they need to their faith and practice"
"Even when he said something he thought appropriate"
"then he realized it was not"
"he would drawback of what he said"
"as in the story of the palm pollination"
"Sharia'a laws is derived from revelations"
"and its specific for religious practice"
"other life matters and how we do things in our life"
"is something that we truly may know better"
Can we hear from one more trusted scholar ?
Saleh Alfawzan (Muslim Scholar): "When prophet said: you may know better at your life matters"
"It means things that does not fall into legislations"
Ok so we can agree that life matters
that have no relations to religious practice
must be referred to the specialized people
and maybe the prophet's opinion
was not a revelation
rather than an independent reasoning
as what happened in palm pollination
What about Engineering, industry, mechanics and electricity
military and applicable sciences
What religion says about it?
Alsharawy (Muslim Scholar): "But all other life matters"
"that are related to experimental science"
"or materialistic science"
"practical activities"
"and whatever required for the sake of our benefit"
"is something that God allows for human logic and reasoning"
"and their ambitions"
"we must understand that experimental science"
"never interfered with religion" Well, Where did we get the term of "prophetic medicine (P.M)" from?
this term was first used by the book written by Ibn-AlQayyim Aljawziyya
and the term came as an independent work
not by Islamic scriptures itself
For the record, It's important to know
the term P.M. was never mentioned since the prophet's era until his (700yrs time)
Let's go through this book together
The book of prophetic medicine
included some authentic (Sahih) and very weak (dai'ef) prophetic sayings (Hadith)
Please note that those hadiths were based on
human independent work NOT revelations
and the prophet talked about these medicines
as much as he knows of knowledge and medical approaches,
that were only available at that time
Unfortunately, today people have considered this book
as an official reference book of medicine
and conducted further work upon it
others have used it for trading and business purposes
So, if to evaluate the value of this book
we will investigate few phrases from it
Specially, because there are some people that
took it as a revelation
and any argument with it
is thought to be an act of opposition to Islam (Zandaqa)
and considered as an insult to the prophet
For example, the teeth twig (Siwak)
Ibn-alQayyim says: "it has many benefits,
including; breath freshener, strengthen the gum,
reliefs phlegm, enhances vision,
make stomach healthy, clears the throat,
helps digestion, eases voice tone,
gives energy for reading, and praying
And stimulant.
How? How did he come up with all these benefits?!
Its neither mentioned in the Quran nor in hadith!
Scientifically, this needs to be tested and researched
to prove all of these benefits
not only in his era, but even today
at our modern technology era
no one has ever discovered any of these benefits!
but he discovered them all at his time!
The hadith of Siwak was for only oral hygiene (Tahara)
There are no such benefits (mentioned earlier)
The issue here is not only his inaccurate assumptions
but how he used to think of those who argued with him as ignorant
Despite that he doesn't have a proof himself!
As an example, Plague disease
it is a disease that killed many people before the treatment is discovered
And its caused by bacterial infection (Yersinia pestis)
Ibn-AlQayyim (based on a hadith) said its demonic hazard
said that its untreatable and whoever
denies the demonic effect is an ignorant!
Fortunately, now it could be medically treated with ordinary antibiotics!
The problem is that some people still following his methodology
As an example, If I say it was NEVER proved
that sawdust would treat Psoriasis
then some goofy would come and say
prove that it would not
Are you nuts?
Why should I prove that it wouldn't?
You should prove it
I can't logically prove something does not exist!
I am sick of this argument
I am done with this book
We've had enough so far
because it contains high number of medical disinformation
and were linked to demons and Jinn
which encourages us to ignore this book
and consider it as a type of individual old human understanding
which had been overcome and exceeded by scientific evidence and medical approaches
and we should learn that
science evolves and so human brain
that all what we need in our life matters,
is only reliable and accurate researched evidence.
We have many claims in prophetic medicine
but because this show is time-limited
I will talk about the most widely used one these days
which is wet-cupping (hijama)
Hijama is defined by its practitioners themselves
as making small shallow incisions through skin
for blood to escape
then a cup is placed over to draw blood
to collect what they called a "rotten" blood
The spot of cupping varies based on the type of illness
OK. First of all, to date, there is no proved study
that shows any benefit of wet-cupping
Secondly, there is no such thing as rotten blood
Thirdly, clotting of blood in cuppings
is the natural coagulation process of blood in the human body
so any blood comes out of the body
will form clots the same way
whether it came from veins or from your back
same process and same clotting time
That was scientifically. Now, religiously..
You can NOT assume it's a sunnah
because this was their latest medical approach
Let's not forget that Abu-Jahal had underwent wet cupping
Was he following the prophet's sunnah?!
Secondly, this is one of our life matters
the prophet recommended it because
it was the best of their knowledge in medicine
Therefore, refusal of wet-cupping in this era
does not interfere with religion whatsoever
Not only Hijama that shouldn't interfere with religion
but many other things
Ready to be shocked?!
The prophet was born (571 AD)
Hijama was used by the pharaoh (1550 BCE)
Black-Caraway was used by the Greeks (1650 BCE)
Truffle was used by Amorites (3000 BCE)
Costuse was used by Sindhi people (3000 BCE)
It was also noted that they grew palms and consumed dates (7000 BCE)
Yet, do you still believe that there is such thing called "prophetic medicine"?
and the denial or rejection to it, is an insult to the prophet?!
Dear viewers,
Either you believe that your religion is great
with all its rituals to elevate spirituality and well-being
and with its teachings that have great influence
without fabricating things & linking it to religion
or you should re-think your belief
Because not every individual interpretation of the religion is necessarily accurate
The Quran and Sunnah are religious guidance
not a medical, geometrical, or experimental sciences
Criticism of those who mistakenly interpret religions
it's not by anyways a criticism of the religion itself
We simply criticize work of individuals
we have to realize the difference between
criticizing religious scriptures
and criticizing individual thoughts of scriptures
Whosoever
Some of them think they are guardians of the religion
Thanks for their effort. But
this effort must be supported by scientific evidence
but not being an irrational devout
Some others, are so careless about their religious well-being
work in irrational ways to proving miracles of prophetic medicine
to take advantage of other's belief and love for their religion
for the sake of marketing of their products
If you genuinely think about it
you will find out that all these claimed miracles
is all about making money
and when the truth is revealed after many years
they will become already wealthy
and their victims will have their money wasted for no benefit
Please just think of what I am saying
If someone comes to you and says
don't listen to this zindiq, fasiq, liberal, secular, westernized, etc
Whole Package of insult
Ok don't listen to me
but if you want to reason things
Go to Egypt
Meet with Counselor Ahmed Mahir
He offers 1 Million pounds
Take 7 pieces of dates (Ajwa) and take poison
and see if Ajwa would make you stand the test
Eat as many dates as you want, make me look stupid and get 1M pound
-Ahmed MAhir (Counselor at Law): In Sahih Bukhari, "whoever break his fast in the morning with 7 Ajwa"
"he won't be affected by poising or wizards act"
I am writing a cheque of 1 Million pound
-Would you pay 1 Million pound? -1 Million pound to anyone among Muslims
who can do Bukhari instructions
come to the center at Tahrir Square
with the supervision of the ministry of health and media press
We will give you a 0.5 cc of potassium cyanide
-We will see if he can handle it for 15 sec or not -With 7 pieces of dates?
-Yes he can eat whatever strand of dates
Do you think that he (Bukbari) is right?
The cheque is ready now. Come and try it yourself now (live)
Finally,
I wish from Islamic jurists (fuqaha')
who accused others for zandaqa and being infidels
for only arguing with them around prophetic medicine and its miracles etc
to fear from Allah for themselves and their religion
I'm hoping that the ministry of education
to stop funding the researches of "prophetic medicine"
and also that the ministry of health
to never funds any conference for "prophetic medicine"
Prophetic medicine is unreal
and doesn't exist
and its association to the prophet is only about making money
I wish that we all wake up and achieve
a true renaissance
for our minds and for our country
Take care and bye
