Harmonica Classes Help People with Respiratory Challenges | Humana - Duration: 5:08.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD, is the third leading cause of death

in the United States.

More than 12 million people have been diagnosed with COPD, and the American Lung Association

estimates more than 24 million adults have impaired lung function.

By 2020, it's expected that the cost of medical care for adults with COPD will be

more than 49 billion dollars.

There's not currently a cure for COPD but it can be treated and managed.

With pulmonary rehabilitation and social support, many people are able to increase their quality

of life.

My name is Talinda Thomas, and I'm here because of my Mom, Lovetta Thomas-Mulse.

She's the ripe, young age of 80, soon to be 81, and we have really enjoyed the Harmonicas

for Health class with Humana.

I'm so glad she pulled me along the way, as it's been beneficial.

Prior to this class, I would say that I was a very negative, critical person, and primarily

because I didn't accept where she was at this stage in her life.

But to see her blossom, to see her having difficulties with breathing, able to play

that harmonica, whether it was just a tune here or a tune there.

But it has changed me for the better so that I can better help her.

The Harmonicas for Health class is a class where we utilize the harmonica as an instrument

or a tool to help us learn breathing techniques that are recommended by the COPD Foundation.

Some of the members have said that they've learned it exchanges the bad air for the good

air.

We strengthen the diaphragm muscles and when we breathe through our diaphragm, we have

a lot more strength and endurance.

And so, it helps people with any kind of lung condition utilize the full range of their

lungs.

Harmonicas for Health?

Brilliant.

That's all I can say about it.

It's exactly pulmonary rehab and it's teaching the members, the people with this unfortunate

disease, how to breathe well.

And, they don't just breathe well when they're playing the harmonica, they're now breathing

well because they've learned how to breathe.

It may keep those with mild emphysema from ever needing oxygen at home.

It may allow those people who are already on oxygen at home to use less oxygen, increasing

their ability to exercise and as you increase your ability to exercise, you can lose weight.

Learning how to exercise and how to breathe properly before their disease progresses and

it should slow the progression.

And, even if it progresses, we've tricked the disease into us knowing how to breathe

better.

I have asthma and, you know, breathing is a fundamental part of life.

You know, we call it respiration and if you think about that word, it's to re-spirit ourselves

and to keep ourselves filled with that kind of spirit and zest for life, I guess.

I think the best thing about Harmonicas for Health is the humor.

We really laugh.

Everybody tends to walk out of here smiling and laughing and really enjoying themselves.

There can be some social isolation at times with COPD, because the energy that's required

to get out and go somewhere will slow people down.

So, if they can boost their energy, boost their endurance, then they can get out and

do other things and not just their harmonica.

When you're at home, if no one has been through what you're challenged with, it's difficult

for them to understand and have empathy for.

And it's not that you're looking for anyone's empathy or sympathy, but you're trying to

help them understand what's going on with your body and why you can't do as you used

to do or travel like you used to travel or go shop.

And so, coming here, she has the opportunity to meet other people and they learn from each

other.

What I read is that, in many articles is that, one key to longevity is to be part of a community

where people know your name and if you don't show up, they'll ask about you.

And people in those kind of communities tend to live better longer.

And that's something I'm really interested in.

With Harmonicas for Health, our members who have emphysema can exercise, can lose weight,

can feel better, get those endorphins and enkephalins up, feel healthier, and get back

out into the community.

What's Holding Your Growth Back in Your Career? - Duration: 4:24.

Hi! I'm Sharon Jurd and welcome to my Biz Blitz video

today I want to ask you the question what's holding your growth back in your career right now?

And what I can tell you is if you are being held back and you're not where you want to be,

you may have some limiting beliefs holding you back.

And first for us to change, we must change our beliefs and our behaviours.

So what we believe we can change and also the actions we take around that we need to change as well.

I want to talk about three limiting beliefs that I hear quite often from people

I meet in business and in my coaching business as well.

Firstly, I hear people say "successful people are just lucky."

Well, they're not lucky; they're persistent, they're consistent, they're driven, they're dedicated and they're highly passionate.

And you may have heard the story around Colonel Sanders,

who was the founder of KFC or Kentucky Fried Chicken it used to be called.

It was a thousand and nine times before he got his break into that industry.

The other person, James Dyson of the Dyson Vacuum Cleaners, five thousand,

one hundred and twenty-six times before he got the development of his vacuum cleaners correct.

Those guys just persisted and kept going and going until success happened; they're not just lucky.

Secondly, the belief I hear is "I don't have the skills."

And I come across a lot of people who just continually want to train, train, train, train.

If you've followed me for a while you will know that self-education is a high priority for me

and I always express that out to my audience that you must keep evolving yourself.

But what people do is use that limiting belief to stop building their business

or even starting their business because they believe they aren't skilled enough.

And what I say is, teach what you already know and then learn as you go

because what you already know there are people out there who don't and they are looking for someone to teach them.

The third limiting belief I hear is "I couldn't possibly achieve that."

If I said to someone, "You are currently earning a hundred thousand a year,

we want to earn a million dollars a year."

I hear this limiting belief that they couldn't possibly earn that or achieve that.

That comes from a fear of failure and that fear becomes so overwhelming that they just cannot imagine

or visualise earning that amount of money.

First you have to visualise it before you work out how you're going to do it,

but what you've got to do is change that around and start using that fear as a benefit

to you to keep moving forward and pushing through that fear rather than letting fear use you

because that's what will happen is that fear will overwhelm you and you'll standstill.

So there are my three limiting beliefs that I hear today around holding you back,

they are "Successful people are just lucky", they are not!

Secondly, "I don't have the skills", you have everything inside you,you need right now.

And thirdly, "I couldn't possibly achieve that" you can and if you want to, you will.

Jurgen Klopp has named both Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane in his starting lineup as Liverpool take on Bayern Munich in the Audi Cup.

The Reds take to the Allianz Arena on Tuesday evening for the first of two pre-season games in the Audi Cup this week, taking on German champions Bayern.

Speaking ahead of the game, Klopp described the matchup as "the top, top level," providing a welcome preview for the 2017/18 campaign, which will see Liverpool return to Europe.

Looking to lead his side to a fourth consecutive victory this summer, building on Saturday's 3-0 win away to Hertha Berlin, Klopp has named a strong starting lineup in Munich.

Loris Karius starts in goal, marshalling a back four of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joel Matip, Dejan Lovren and Alberto Moreno.

In midfield, Jordan Henderson is joined by Emre Can and Philippe Coutinho, while Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane support Roberto Firmino in Klopp's attack.

The German is likely to make a series of changes throughout the game, with Adam Lallana, Georginio Wijnaldum and Daniel Sturridge among those named on the substitutes' bench.

Danny Ward (back), Joe Gomez (knee), Nathaniel Clyne (back) and Divock Origi (hamstring) are all ruled out through injury.

Liverpool will face either Napoli or Atletico Madrid in Wednesday's clash, ahead of their return to England and a trip to take on Athletic Bilbao in Dublin on Saturday. Liverpool: Karius; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Lovren, Moreno; Henderson, Can, Coutinho; Salah, Mane, Firmino.
