What's up guys, Frazier here for Complex News.
This year has been marred with fuckshit from the alt-right through and through from these
Breitbart limp dicks, to the Loewes card-carrying assholes and their tiki torches and of course,
the atrocities emanating from the White House on the daily.
But if there was one place we could go to escape the country's ills for a few hours,
it was the movie theater.
Until now.
Yup, these alt-right pests have now stepped up to invading our movie-going experience,
because as it turns out, there's an intersectionality with being a racist prick and an entitled
fanboy.
For those who aren't caught up on the minutiae of the movie industry, there's a disconnect
going on with the latest Star Wars film Last Jedi.
Critics are beside themselves over it, while some fans are feeling, at best, bemused towards
a movie that has little reverence for the mythology that came before it.
Still, the divide isn't so large as to account for the incredibly low Rotten Tomatoes score,
which currently sits at a paltry 54%.
Compare that to an 86 on Metacritc or the A it has on CinemaScore.
It just doesn't add up.
And now we know why.
An Alt-right group that calls themselves Down With Disney's Treatment of Franchises and
its Fanboys—yes, seriously—is proudly taking credit for flooding that RS score down.
A moderator who didn't give his name told HuffPost they've been using bots to flood
the space with bad reviews, while also tossing in some positives to quote throw the scent
off.
As for motive: the group is pissed off at the influx of female characters while dudes
like Poe Dameron and Luke are reduced to "mansplaining" and "in danger of being turned gay."
"Did you not see everything that came out of 'Ghostbusters'?
That is why.
I'm sick and tired of men being portrayed as idiots.
There was a time we ruled society and I want to see that again.
That is why I voted for Donald Trump."
They're also mad that this new trilogy is far off course from the Expanded Universe
which consisted of spin-off books and the like.
Rotten Tomatoes doesn't believe their claims
"These things happen from time to time where somebody opportunistically seizes on a moment
and says, 'Oh, that thing?
Yeah, I did that.'
We take it very seriously, and we've looked at this, and to the best of our investigation
so far this looks like legitimate user behavior,"
So, either this Alt Right group of nerds are also evil geniuses.
Or they're opportunistic attention-starved idiots.
Either way, Star Wars and Alt-right isn't an intersection of topics we needed this holiday
season.
Bah humbug.
That's the news for now but for the latest on the alt-right's shenanigans keep it locked
here.
For Complex, I'm Frazier.
