Youtube daily Jan 1 2018

There are some great ways to easily add content to your website.

It's fairly simple to automatically pull in the latest news from various sources, but

is it a good idea to do it?

Before we get into that though, I'm Mickey Mellen, and this is A Brighter Web episode

number 32, brought to you by all of us at GreenMellen.

Our goal with this podcast is give you quick weekly insights for news, products, and ideas,

so we can all make the web a brighter place to be.

These might be actual web tips talking about strategy, search engines, WordPress plugins

and UX, or maybe productivity ideas to help you get more done and free up your time to

do great things.

We also want to thank our sponsor, GoWP.com.

GoWP provides white label WordPress support for agencies and web professionals.

Use code ABW for a 15% discount on any monthly plan.

Today we'll talk more about fetching content from other websites, nofollow in guest post

links, new tools in the Google Assistant SDK, and more.

Let's dig in.

Google always pushes the idea of adding value to your users, and republishing content that

can be found elsewhere typically doesn't add value.

Search Engine Roundtable has a great article about this.

They use the example of articles from the AP posted on literally hundreds of websites.

I'm sure you've seen this before.

The key is that when 500 sites post the same article, only one site will rank at the top

for it.

It's worth spending the time to generate unique quality content, and your efforts will go

much further.

Google says to nofollow all guest post links.

File this under the stuff we pretty much already knew.

If someone writes a guest blog on your site, you should nofollow almost all the links.

Google's John Mueller says, quote, "I would almost go so far to say well, even those kinds

of guests posts where you contribute significantly to the site, maybe it just makes sense to

just have those links as nofollow, and have it such that you kind of profit from the people

who actually go to your site, because they think you wrote something fantastic, and they're

really interested in hearing more from you."

So again, guest posting is something people have done a bit unscrupulously over the past

few years, and Google's really cracking down on that, and your safest bet is just to nofollow

all those guest post links.

So people can still follow them, but they don't get the credit for them that maybe the

reason they're posting on your site in the first place.

Relating to this, a long term noindex will lead to nofollow on links.

It's something I never really thought about before, but it kind of makes sense.

So to be clear, noindexing a page says to Google, "Google, don't save this page to your

index, don't have it come up in search results.

You can still check it out and see what happens, but don't save it in your index."

Nofollow is something you put on specific links saying, "Hey Google, see this link here?

Don't count that against what's going on in the site.

Don't have the link actually count to benefit the site that's receiving it."

So what John Mueller is saying here, quote, "So it's kind of tricky with noindex, which

I think is something that is somewhat of a misconception in general within the SEO community,

in that we noindex and follow is still the case that we see the noindex.

Say in the first step, we say okay, you know what, you don't want this page shown in the

search results.

We'll still keep it in our index, we just won't show it, and then we can follow those

links.

But if we see the noindex there for longer than we think this page really doesn't want

to be in the search, we'll remove it completely, and then we won't follow the links anyhow.

So noindex, nofollowers, essentially the same kind of thing.

There's really no big difference in the long runs."

So what he's saying is if you're going to no index a page, assume all the links will

be no followed as well.

If Google's not going to see the page, they're eventually no longer going to care about those

links either.

Google's testing a "more results" mobile search interface.

They've tested it before, but Google's again testing a more results link in mobile search

results.

Rather than clicking on next page, you just click more results, and keep on going.

They're also testing suggested refinement options, where they give you a single tap

to refine your search for things such as narrowing down product lines or colors.

They're both still in testing, and may or may not roll out to wider audience, but it's

good to see Google continuing to tweak that kind of thing.

The Google Assistant software development kit adds more languages and a few other features.

So Google's added a couple neat new features to the Google Assistant SDK.

Along with a bunch of new languages, the SDK now includes more customized settings, including

changing the device's language, location, and nickname, and enabling personalized results.

If you're a developer, these are great tweaks.

For the rest of us, this just means that developers can do more with Google Assistant, which will

likely surface in the form of many third party smart speakers coming out this next year.

Google is again showing third party reviews in the search results.

So Google got into trouble about seven years ago for scraping third party reviews from

sites likes TripAdvisor and Yelp without permission.

They removed those reviews after they got in trouble, but now they have a new system

where publishers can actually opt in to have the reviews included on Google's site.

So you may see reviews from some third party sites show up in the local results, alongside

the Google reviews.

We've long said that you should be getting reviews on more than just Google, and this

is another reason why.

It's thought that Google looks at those other reviews when ranking you, and now they're

actually going to be showing them on Google to some extent as well, so it's worth trying

to get reviews wherever you can, in a legitimate way.

To take that a bit further, Google Maps has now changed the review guidelines with a new

conflict of interest section that clarifies that reviews must be honest and unbiased,

including not allowing, quote, "Posting negative content about a current or former employment

experience," or posting negative reviews about, quote, "a competitor to manipulate the rankings."

While people can and probably will continue to do these kind of shady things, this at

least gives you an avenue with Google to dispute those reviews, and possibly get them removed.

Something that's typically impossible to do.

If you try to get a negative review removed from Yelp or Google, you'll find it's very

difficult.

But if you can point to a specific terms of service issue with that review, you may have

a little more luck with it.

And lastly, for our tip of the week.

Save some offline movies from Netflix.

We traveled a good bit over the holidays, and if you travel, you'll probably find that

your home internet is much faster than anywhere you visit.

We were in a couple hotels, and on the airline, and airports, at my folks house, and stuff,

and none of them had anywhere close to the speed we had at home.

So it was very convenient that we preloaded Netflix movies on our kids laptops.

So we got our kids Chromebooks for Christmas, and they preloaded a bunch of stuff through

Netflix through the Android app, which now you can load Android Apps on most new Chromebooks.

So I loaded the Netflix app on their Chromebook, and they were able to download offline a bunch

of movies and have them on the plane to wherever we went.

Convenient way to do it.

It's a great new feature from Netflix.

You can do it with other services to some degree as well, and I encourage you to check

that out, particularly before you travel.

And that's all we have for this week.

Here's a List Albums We're Still Waiting On in 2018 - Duration: 4:01.

Jinx here for Complex News.

We're living in an era of an endless stream of music, with 2017 serving as further proof

with a gang of albums dropping each week.

Even with that, it seems like it's not enough when it comes to some artists.

I'm talking about that particular group that we start the year hoping for a release, and

end the year with nothing.

Now we know that art takes time, but that doesn't stop us from giving a friendly reminder

that— —That we need these albums.

So without further ado, these are the albums that we're waiting on:

PUSHA T - KING PUSH Despite taking on the important role of President

of G.O.O.D.

Music, Pusha T hasn't brushed off any conversation about his forthcoming studio album: King Push.

But also keep in mind that he's been talking about this project for almost 4 years now.

I actually spoke with Push a few years ago where he told me that it was going to be a

Neptunes helmed project:

Welp... things have changed since 2014.

This summer we linked up again, and he told me that much has changed and gave a status

update:

But during that same discussion Push revealed that it's also no longer executive produced

by The Neptunes.

Instead, the project's sonics are being helmed by none other than Kanye West.

I'm be honest with y'all.

It doesn't matter what Pusha raps over, because he can take any beat and whip crack over it.

We just need our fix!

EARL SWEATSHIRT

Fans of Earl Sweatshirt have been waiting for a new full-length project since 2015's

I Don't Like Shit I Don't Go Outside.

Since then, we've gotten a few verses, like the one he crushed last year on Danny Brown's

"Really Doe" or the bars he spit on the Samiyam's tripped out boom-bapish "Mirror" or the work

he's done with producer Knxwkedge.

I've heard around that he's been working on new material, but none of that is directly

from Earl, nor has he delivered anything full length.

Instead he takes his time, and keeps his output measured and select.

So until he says it's a go... we'll be waiting.

Travis Scott's Astroworld is easily one of the most anticipated albums.

While we don't know what it'll sound like, it's largely due to him being one of the most

popular and exciting artists out right now.

He's currently providing the anthems that bang in the clubs, live in your headphones,

and turn into pure unfiltered chaos at his live shows.

It's also due to the fact that he's been talking about it since before the release of his last

album "Birds In The Trap Sing McKnight."

We should probably ease off him a bit, since he literally went on a streak of dropping

a project each year, with each one almost exactly a year apart with: Days Before Rodeo,

Rodeo, and Birds In the Trap Sing McKnight.

Also consider that he's been on tour the majority of the year and is said to be having a child

with Kylie Jenner.

So yeah... he's kind of busy.

But even if we don't get Astro World, there's still a chance we get the Travis and Quavo

"Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho" project soon—which is said to have been sent off for mixing.

THE INTERNET

The Internet is one of the more exciting groups in recent memory.

All talented in their own rights, each of them set out this year to release or work

on solo projects, resulting in Matt Martians' The Drum Chord Theory; Steve Lacy's "Steve

Lacy Demo" and Syd's "Fin" and "Always Never Home."

Seeing them flex their abilities on their own, allows you to see what they bring to

the group, but it's their combined powers that really shine.

Which is why fans are clamoring for a new project from the band.

They've remained relatively hush about it, but with this much output and a tight-knit

group, they're likely tossing around ideas and new material ahead of another project.

NICKI MINAJ

2017 seemed like the year that female rappers reminded everyone to not count them out.

We saw output from Dreezy, Rhapsody, Remy Ma, newcomer and superstar Cardi B, and even

Lil Kim, among others.

With Cardi running up the charts and landing a grammy nom.

While we await what's next for the Bronx emcee But it's all eyes on Nicki Minaj in 2018.

Having not dropped an album this year, but thrown around songs, from a few barbs (no

pun intended), Nicki is still the reigning queen of rap right now, having set the standard

of stardom.

With welcome competition, her fanbase and the rap community are waiting to see what

she does next.

With anything Nicki does, it's usually big and causes some news.

A well put-together album with something to say will be the foundation of her continued

dominance.

Okay... so those are just a few of the projects we're awaiting, but there are other artists

we've got on our radar like Chance The Rapper, A$AP Rocky, Rae Sremmurd, and of course Lil

Wayne's Carter V... which is still stuck in contractual Limbo.

We're dying to know who you guys are waiting for?

Fall thru the comments with your picks and the likelihood that they'll give us something

in 2018.

BREAKING NEWS !!! THEY Got BOO'd Off The FIELD! WATCH THIS - Duration: 3:29.

BREAKING!!!

THEY Got BOOd Off The FIELD!

WATCH THIS

This is so embarrassing for my home state of California, but who cares?

Its not like this state and its far-left liberal socialist citizens harbor any shame

anymore.

Attendees of the Valero Alamo Bowl in Texas actually booed the Stanford University Band

during its failure of a halftime performance after the left wing hack bandsmen mocked the

border wall, Whataburger, and all things Texan.

The awful and disrespectful performance came during the California universitys bowl

game versus Texas Christian University, and TCU responded by defeating the Stanford Cardinals.

The Stanford marching band which is known for its satirical and disrespectful halftime

performances, unless you are a liberal that is, poked fun at Texans state pride, the

border wall proposed by President Donald Trump, horned frogs (the TCU mascot), and Whataburger,

which is the iconic burger restaurant loved by the majority of Texans.

But this group of disrespectful ingrates forgot one thing, Dont mess with Texas isnt

just a fake slogan like The Golden State is.

The Great California Exodus: A Closer Look

For decades after World War II, California was a destination for Americans in search

of a better life.

In many peoples minds, it was the state with more jobs, more space, more sunlight,

and more opportunity.

They voted with their feet, and California grew spectacularly (its population increased

by 137 percent between 1960 and 2010).

However, this golden age of migration into the state is over.

For the past two decades, California has been sending more people to other American states

than it receives from them.

Since 1990, the state has lost nearly 3.4 million residents through this migration.

This study describes the great ongoing California exodus, using data from the Census, the Internal

Revenue Service, the states Department of Finance, the Bureau of Labor Statistics,

the Federal Housing Finance Agency, and other sources.

We map in detail where in California the migrants come from, and where they go when they leave

the state.

We then analyze the data to determine the likely causes of Californias decline and

the lessons that its decline holds for other states.

The data show a pattern of movement over the past decade from California mainly to states

in the western and southern U.S.: Texas, Nevada, and Arizona, in that order, are the top magnet

states.

Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Idaho, and Utah follow.

Rounding out the top ten are two southern states: Georgia and South Carolina.

A finer-grained regional analysis reveals that the main current of migration out of

California in the past decade has flowed eastward across the Colorado River, reversing the storied

passages of the Dust Bowl era.

Southern California had about 55 percent of the states population in 2000 but accounted

for about 65 percent of the net out-migration in the decade that followed.

More than 70 percent of the states net migration to Texas came from Californias

south.

What has caused Californias transformation from a pull in to a push out state?

The data have revealed several crucial drivers.

One is chronic economic adversity (in most years, California unemployment is above the

national average).

BREAKING NOW FBI FINDS HILLARY CLINTON'S CLASSIFIED EMAILS ON ANTHONY WEINER'S LAPTOP - Duration: 2:40.

BREAKING NOW FBI FINDS HILLARY CLINTONS CLASSIFIED EMAILS ON ANTHONY WEINERS LAPTOP

The FBI found at least five classified emails sent by Huma Abedin on a laptop used by her

ex-husband, Anthony Weiner.

Today, the Trump State Department released hundreds of documents representing Abedins

emails found on Weiners laptop.

The Daily Mail reports that five emails were marked classified, and some of those emails

were included in todays document release.

They involved discussions on the Middle East, and the documents wer eheavily redacted before

their release today.

Although James Comey did not choose to prosecute anyone in the initial investigation into Hillary

Clintons personal email server, the FBI has reopened the investigation.

It is unclear if any criminal charges are forthcoming, but it appears clear Abedin did

break the law in sending the emails to her husbands laptop, so they could be printed.

Abedins emails were found when New York City police searched Weiners computer searching

for evidence that he sexted an underage girl.

He is currently serving prison time on that charge.

Fox News has more.

The State Department on Friday released a batch of work-related emails from the account

of top Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin that were discovered by the FBI on a laptop belonging

to Abedins estranged husband, Anthony Weiner, near the end of the 2016 presidential campaign.

At least four of the documents released Friday are marked classified.

One November 2010 document that was released shows Abedin forwarding an email to an address

titled Anthony Campaign.

Former FBI Director James Comey said during a congressional hearing earlier this year

that he believed Abedin regularly forwarded emails to Weiner for him to print out so she

could give them to Clinton.

Comey famously said in July 2016 that Clinton was extremely careless in her handling

of classified emails on a private server.

That 2010 email was a callsheet to Clinton about her upcoming call to Saudi Foreign Minister

Prince Saud al-Faisal to warn about an imminent leak of U.S. diplomatic cables so-called

Cablegate from WikiLeaks.

The rest of the document is redacted and marked classified as of August 2015.

Abedin is a longtime aide to Clinton who worked at the State Department and on Clintons

campaign.

At the time of the emails, Abedin was married to Weiner, a onetime Democratic congressman

who began a 21-month prison sentence last month after being convicted of sexting a 15-year-old

girl.

BOMBSHELL From WikiLeaks!! Hillary Colluded!!! SOMEONE WILL BE GOING TO PRISON - Duration: 3:04.

BOMBSHELL From WikiLeaks!! Hillary Colluded!!!

SOMEONE WILL BE GOING TO PRISON

If there were one person that deserved to serve a life sentence of hard labor, it would

be Hillary Clinton.

That woman has done everything in her power for years to undermine the constitution and

the American people with her underhanded political dealings, and traitorous deeds.

Not only is Hillary guilty of treason against the United States, but she is the prime suspect

in hundreds of suspicious murders that have taken place over the years.

Then, last year, stunning new revelations were discovered after Julian Assange, founder

of WikiLeaks, released hacked emails that showed the depth of depravity Hillary had

sunk.

In these emails, the American people were stunned to witness how far Hillary would go

to ensure that she would win the presidential election, and how far her staff would go to

cover her crimes up.

For the past year, Hillary Clinton has not been able to shake the questions surrounding

those emails or the crimes she has been accused of, and now those crimes have grown.

Just today, WikiLeaks has released evidence that Hillary Clinton and her campaign were

the ones who were colluding and they have the smoking gun to prove it.

Over the last year, the mainstream media and liberal pundits have been busy pushing the

false narrative that President Trump conspired with Russia to win the election.

However, every time these liberal hacks thought they had found the proof to impeach President

Trump it backfired in their anti-American faces and pointed right back to Hillary Clinton.

Now, more proof has emerged that shows that Hillary Clinton was the only one attempting

to sway the American peoples vote, and we have the email to prove it.

Here is a little backstory for you.

On Saturday, The Democrat tentacle, The New York Times, published a story titled Republican

Attacks on Mueller and F.B.I.

Open New Rift in G.O.P. This story apparently drew the ire of WikiLeaks founder Jullian

Assange who just published on Twitter alleged evidence that a Times reporter fed the State

Department email updates of the stories the paper would be publishing SEVERAL DAYS before

the stories were released during the time Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State.

Now, who is guilty of conspiring again?

Here is more from Daily Wire:

The heads-up email was intended to give State (and Clinton) time to come up with some spin

for stories that may have caused problems.

Or, in another possible scenario, the heads up could give the State Department time to

create a diversion for the same day, thus overriding a damaging story with other news

its friends in the mainstream media would happily cover instead.

The players in the WikiLeaks email are interesting.

Scott Shane is the national security reporter for The Times.

And the recipient of his email, Philip Crowley, was at the time the United States Assistant

Secretary of State for Public Affairs under Clintons State Department.

As 2017 comes to an end, its clear the Clinton scandals wont go away anytime soon.
