BREAKING: Top Democrat REMOVED FROM OFFICE AFTER FBI STING!!!
LOOK WHAT SHE DID!!!
A Florida mayor was removed from office Friday after she was arrested and charged with three
felony corruption charges, FOX NEWS reports.
57-year-old Joy Cooper is the Democratic Mayor of Hallandale Beach, Florida and she has been
charged with multiple felony counts by the FBI.
The Sun Sentinel News reports that, The FBI's sting began in 2012 and was turned over to
state prosecutors in May 2017, said Constance Simmons, a spokeswoman for the Broward State
Attorney's Office.
Undercover FBI agents, posing as land developers from California "seeking political favor"
for development projects, hired Koslow to represent them, court records show.
"At this time, Alan Koslow was unaware that he was interacting with undercover Federal
Bureau of Investigation agents," investigators wrote.
Cooper, mayor since 2005, and Koslow were secretly recorded during numerous meetings
and conversations, court documents show.
Koslow had told the undercover agents he had influence with the mayor and city commissioners
and that he "had the vote of the mayor," the records show.
Undercover FBI agents handed a Dunkin Donuts bag filled with $8,000 over to Koslow, all
in $100.00 bills, in August of 2012.
Gov. Rick Scott suspended Cooper on Friday, a day after she was arrested and accused of
accepting contributions funneled through Alan Koslow, a once prominent attorney who has
since been disbarred after a conviction on federal charges.
Cooper has been charged with:
1.
Money laundering – Felony, which carries up to a 5 year sentence.
2.
Official misconduct of a Mayor – Felony, which carries up to a 5 year sentence
3.
Exceeding the limit on campaign finance contributions – Felony, which carries up to a 5 year sentence.
4.
Soliciting Contributions in a government building – Misdemeanor, which carries up to 1 year
sentence.
Cooper also solicited funds for Anthony Sanders, the former commissioner for Hallandale Beach,
who resigned in August of 2017 due to misconduct allegations.
Sanders also of voting to award nearly 1 million to a non-profit that made monthly payments
to his church and family.
According to a high-ranking official at City Hall, Cooper cleared out her office the night
before reporting to the Main Jail in downtown Fort Lauderdale on Thursday morning.
She was released Thursday night after she paid $12,000 bail.
Cooper served on the City Commission starting in 1999 and became the Mayor in 2005, she
claims she is innocent and will fight the charges in court.
If the civilian populace would wake up and dig into their city, county and state politicians,
they would see the corruption is embedded deep.
Money changes hands, favors are done, city councils bought off and it is the taxpayers
who ultimately pay in the end.
I certain level of greed and corruption will never be stopped, however, it is when the
greed gets out of control and people start to take notice and report the corruption,
that small changes happen.
