Two weeks left until the Winter games kicks off.
The torch relay wrapped up its fifth and final theme of "Peace" at Goseong.
Lee Ji-won followed the Olympic Flame to the nation's northernmost region.
"I'm at the Unification Observatory in Goseong County, South Korea's most northeastern region.
Behind me, just 3 kilometers away is North Korea.
The North and even its famous Mount Kumgang can be seen from this spot.
And to further highlight the theme of "Peace", the PyeongChang Olympic torch relay had its
final tour of the South's border at this symbolic place on Friday."
The day's relay started with musical performances in front of the observatory, including one
using the 'piano of unification', whose strings are made from barbed wire from the fence that
separates South and North.
The ceremony was to wish not just for a successful 2018 Winter Games, but for the reunification
of the two Koreas.
Despite the bone-chilling cold, people came to cheer for the torch and be part of the
moment.
"The torch came to our country for the first time in 30 years, and it's passing through
the northernmost regions.
It's something that cannot be missed I hope for the two Koreas to reunite soon."
Like the previous relays along the border region,... the torch bearers carried the torch
on their bikes, conveying the message that South and North must work together, like two
bike wheels, to move forward.
Though the torch bearers headed south, the path in the other direction is one of the
three overland travel routes used to cross the inter-Korean border.
It was used for the first time in over two years this week with the South Korean inspection
team visiting the North to prepare for joint-events leading up to next month's Winter Games.
Friday's relay concludes the fifth and final theme of the Olympic torch relay 'Peace'.
It comes at a significant time amid the most positive exchanges between the two Koreas
in recent years.
From the Inter-Korean Transit Office in Paju,... all the way to Goseong's Unification Observatory,
over the last seven days, nearly 500 torch bearers have participated in lighting up the
border that divides South and North.
"I am very excited that the two Koreas are coming together for this Olympics, and am
very honored that I can play a part in it.
I felt very a strong sense of responsibility to successfully complete the relay."
The torch will now head south to the rest of Gangwon-do Province,... before finally
arriving at the PyeongChang Olympic Stadium on February 9th.
