this will be the crochet Kingston cap I'm using a size I will be using a size
I crochet hook and 4-ply yarn we will start by adding the slipknot to the
crochet hook you take the free end wrap it over your strand now you have a loop
take your loop wrap it over the main strand of your yarn put your hook below
and then back up to the other side this creates the slip knot chain four join
with the beginning chain chain one pull it up the reason that I do this is so
that I can work three full double crochet this will not count as a stitch
it is just the step up to the next round work three double crochet one two
three chain one work three more double crochet right through the loop and I'm
going right through the center of the chain there's two three chain one work
three more double crochet one two three
chain one work three more double crochet
there's two
3 chain 1 3 more double-crochet
chain 1 3 more double-crochet there's 1 2 3 now I'm going to join with the
beginning stitch I will be joining with a single crochet instead of the chain 1
this is so that I can end at the center which will be between these 2 sets of 3
double crochet I'm going to put my hook right here through the top of the stitch
and work a single crochet now with round 2 I'm going to start it the same way
with a chain and pull it up a little bit work three double crochet right through
the chain one space there's 1 2 3 chain one work three more double crochet
in the same chain one space 1 2 3 chain 1 in the next chain 1 space is right
here is what I'm flying the space and this is the chain one between the two
sets of three double crochet work three double crochet one two three chain one
work three more double crochet in the same chain one space there's one two
three chain one in the next space work three double crochet chain one three
double crochet there's one two
three chain one work three more double crochet in the same chain one space one
two three now chain one do the same thing in the next chain one space three
double crochet there's three chain one three more double crochet in the same
chain one space chain one continue around to the beginning with three
double crochet chain one three double crochet in the remaining chain one
spaces I'm back around to the beginning and I will be doing a single crochet to
join putting my hook through the first stitch working the single crochet and
this puts me at the center of this space now chain one work three double crochet
in the same chain one space there's one two three chain one work three double
crochet in the next chain one space one two three chain one work three double
crochet in the next chain one space there's one two
three chain 1 3 double-crochet in the next chain-1 space 1 2 3 chain 1 this is
what we have continue around to the beginning with a set of 3 double crochet
in each chain one space a chain one between I'm finishing up the last 3
double crochet on round 3 work a single crochet in the beginning stitch to join
this is what it looks like after 3 runs there should be 12 sets of 3 double
crochet on round 3 round 4 chain in the same space work three double crochet
chain one this is an increased round so in the next space there will be three
double crochet there's two three chain one work one more set of three double
crochet in the same space one two three
chain one in the next space work one set of three double crochet one two three
chain one in the next space work two sets of three double crochet with a
chain one between there's one two three chain one work three more double crochet
in the same space two three chain one work one set of double crochet in the
next space chain one work two sets of double crochet with a chain one between
one two three chain one work one more set of three in the same space one two
three this is what we have on round four and you will continue around with one
set of three double crochet the next space two sets of three double crochet
chain 1 3 double-crochet for a total of 18 sets of three double crochet with a
chain one space between each set I'm joining around 4 I have a total of 18
sets of three double crochet chain one between each set Round five there will
be 24 sets of three double crochet with a chain one between the first one will
be three double crochet there's two three chain one an increase stitch in
the next chain one space this will be two sets of three double crochet there's
the first set chain one work a second set of three double crochet one two
three chain one work single sets of three double crochet in each of the next
two chain one spaces we will do the first one first single set of one two
three chain one work one more single set of three double crochet there's two
three chain one work an increase in the next chain one space there's one two
three chain one work one more set of three double crochet in the same space
one two three chain one work an individual set in each of the next two
chain one spaces there's two three chain one work one more set one two three
chain one work two sets of three double crochet in this chain one space two
three chain one work one more set one
two
three now this is what we have on round five you will continue around with an
individual set of three double crochet in each of the next two chain one spaces
an increase with two sets of 3 double-crochet in the next chain-1 so
every three stitches you will be doing an increase on round five a single set
single set and an increase there will be a total of 24 sets of three double
crochet chain one on round five now work a single crochet in the
beginning stitch this is what we have through round five there are a total of
24 sets of three double crochet with a chain one between round six chain pull
up work three double crochet one two
three chain one work one more set of three double crochet in the same space
there's two three chain one work one set of three double crochet in each of the
next three spaces one two three chain one in the next space work three double
crochet one two
three chain one in the next space work three double crochet one two three chain
one in the next space work an increase this will be two sets of three double
crochet with a chain one between there's the second stitch third chain one work
one more set of three double crocheting the same space there's two three chain
one work one set in each of the next three chain one spaces there's the
second stitch the third stitch chain one
one two three chain one work three double crochet in the next space one two
three chain one and then an increase in the next space
that completes the first set chain one and work one more set of three double
crochet in the same space and this is what it looks like there will be a total
of 30 sets of three double crochet in round six work a single crochet with the
beginning stitch to join that completes round six round seven through ten will
be one set of three double crochet in each space around chain work three
double crochet 1 2 3 chain 1 in the next chain one space work three more double
crochet there's 2 3 chain 1 work three more double crochet one two
three chain one work three double crochet one two three
you will continue with this sequence of stitches for around seven through ten
this is where you will make it longer if you would like to have a longer cap just
keep on going until you have it as long as you want
round eleven will be the first round with a slight decrease we will work
three double crochet in each chain one space around this time we will not do a
chain one so skipping the chain one is the first part of the decrease just work
three double crochet in each chain one space around one two three three double
crochet in the next chain one space one two three three double crochet in the
next chain one space one two three
continue around to the beginning I'm completing round 11 with a slip stitch
in the beginning stitch round 12 chain work one double crochet in the
first double crochet now work a double crochet decrease this we'll be taking
two stitches and joining them into one this is making the opening of the cap
narrower this is what I have right now it has started a little curl right here
to form the sides of the cap wrap the yarn over the hook insert it through the
top of the first stitch wrap the yarn over pull it through wrap the yarn over
pull through two loops leave the remaining tubes on the hook wrap the
yarn over put it through the second stitch wrap the yarn over pull it
through wrap the yarn over pull through two loops wrap the yarn over pull
through all three loops this makes the first double crochet decrease wrap the
yarn over the hook insert the hook through the top of the first stitch wrap
the yarn over pull it through wrap the yarn over the hook pull through two
loops there will be two remaining loops on the crochet hook
wrap the yarn over the hook insert it through the top of the next stitch wrap
the yarn over pull it through wrap the yarn over pull through two loops wrap
the yarn over the crochet hook pull through the three remaining loops on the
crochet hook to complete the double crochet decrease you can see how the
stitches are joined together at the top taking these two stitches joining them
into one stitch now work one double crochet in the next stitch then work a
double crochet decrease
one double crochet in the next stitch then a double crochet decrease
work a double crochet then a double crochet decrease
double crochet
double crochet decrease
you'll continue around to the beginning with one double crochet in a single
stitch then work a double crochet decrease working over two stitches
continue around to the beginning join with the beginning stitch I have a total
of sixty stitches on round twelve I have completed around twelve with the double
crochet decrease if you find that you need more double crochet decrease you
can go ahead and do one more round so you will want to evenly space them
around the cap so at any point throughout the cap if you find you want
it smaller you can add more double crochet decrease if you want the cap
larger you can work less double crochet decrease it is really easy to modify the
size of the cap with how many double crochet decrease you work now around
thirteen I'm going to work one single crochet in each stitch around for a
total of 60 when I get around to the beginning I will be working in a
continual round this will be working the band of the cap one single crochet in
each stitch around I've completed the first round of the band
if I were joining the round I would work a slip stitch into the first stitch like
this I will be working in a continual round so I am going to do a single
crochet in the top of the first stitch and continue on around with a single
crochet in each stitch around you may want to use a yarn marker so you know
where the first stitch of the round is at and if at any point you find that the
band is too large you can work a single crochet decrease this is how you will
work a single crochet decrease put your hook through the first stitch wrap the
yarn over pull it through put your hook through the next stitch wrap
the yarn over pull it through there are three loops on the hook wrap the yarn
over and pull it through that's only if you find that the band is too large so
this is ways that you can modify making the band smaller at any point throughout
the round now this is what my cap is looking like at this point so continue
on around for another five or six rounds for the band however wide you want your
band I have worked a total of six rounds for the band I do not want this Ridge
right here from the continual round what I'm going to do is skip a stitch work a
slip stitch in the next stitch and that evens off the round
and this is what my cab looks like this is the Hat complete
