CHRIS OVERHOLT: For years now, in one way or another,
it's been the case that we're always looking for an edge,
and always trying to find that little change that
will make a subtle difference.
But a subtle difference in many of our sports
could be the difference between a medal or not.
So our sports have applied technology, and data analytics,
and research over the years to try and find those moments.
This will be an opportunity for us
to be far more strategic about it for the entire system,
for the entire Candian Olympic Team
Where we started to do a little bit of this work already--
and we saw great results in Rio this summer--
that's in some ways the result of being able to build what
we call, "gold medal pathways."
Understanding milestones and indicators
of where our athletes need to be on the progression curve,
against the world standards that would allow
them to stand on the podium.
And be able to coach them to those standards,
and to those levels.
For our Olympic team to compete, we
look in on the available dollars that we have.
We have to be always asking ourselves,
are we applying them appropriately,
or are we applying them in the most diligent and the most
effective fashion to win?
In my former life, in Miami with the Dolphins,
we actually spent some time talking
to the SAS team about some of the work
that we were interested in engaging in there.
So I knew right away, when we started to look at this space
seriously up here, that SAS was going
to be one of the first calls.
As we got into this, it was clear
that they were serious about the partnership, and the fact
that they were going to be prepared to be in it with us,
be vested, have their people committed to the idea.
You look for people that are ready to sit around the table
and really put their shoulders into it.
So as we get into this, our first focus
is going to be on performance, and how
SAS and the technology and resources SAS provides
helps us win more medals.
When we have an athlete standing on the podium--
and I know that SAS and the Olympic Committee,
and the partners in the sport community--
when I know that we've all played
a hand in that in that way, that will
be a very, very proud moment.
Competition on the world stage right now, I mean,
it is never, never been harder to win.
For us to have the power and expertise of SAS at the table,
I'm sure that we'll not be able to even measure or anticipate
the things that we'll uncover along the way.
So it will be exciting.
