Flashcards | How to Learn English Words - Duration: 5:44.

Flashcards! flashcards! flashcards! flashcards? flashcards! it's a cool word,

isn't it? they are cool and they're amazing to

memorize new grammar, vocabulary, and expressions! but a lot of people don't

know how to use flashcards smartly, and they waste their time!

Patrick was wondering how to use them effectively, how often to use them, which

flashcard apps are the best, and what exactly to write on a flashcard. so today

we're talking about flashcards and all of the questions that Patrick has,

because that's what we voted for on Patreon! so click here! become a patron, so

your ideas and your questions can become For Your English videos! here's a

flashcard. it has two sides. one side usually has a question or something that

you want to solve. in English, it's usually a translation of a word, or a

grammar rule. the other side has the explanation or the answer in your

language. for vocabulary, a lot of people suggest adding images to the new word

you're trying to learn. I agree with this, but only if it's for beginner to

elementary English. starting at the intermediate level, words are not easily

defined with an image and you will waste time trying to find the right image. what

is much better from beginner to advanced, even for myself, learning much more

academic technical English as a native speaker, is to write examples! examples

using the grammar, the vocabulary, putting it in sentences. things to remind you of

the correct usage and this will translate directly into better

conversational English and quicker, much quicker memorization! But whoa whoa whoa! that

was stupid :D don't stop there! read your examples out

loud! it's the easiest, quickest way to improve your pronunciation and speaking

confidence by yourself! read your examples out loud and make new examples

with the vocabulary or the grammar each time you see the flashcard. like, let's

say you're learning a new verb. that's easy enough to

memorize, you can memorize quite easily the base form of a verb. but can you

conjugate it? do you know what prepositions it uses? and are you even

comfortable using it in a sentence? if you answered no to any of those, then you

are not ready to use that in your conversational, spoken English! so in your

flashcards, write examples, and each time practice! conjugate verbs, try using the

word in a sentence, say it out loud so that you are ready to understand it when

native speakers use it, and to feel more comfortable when you use it! but my

biggest advice! my biggest advice when using flashcards! only make flashcards if

you are going to review out loud! 1) your brain learns much faster and

memorizes things much easier when you use different parts of your body and

stimulate your brain in different ways when learning. this is scientific fact! do

it! and 2nd) like reading, speaking out loud will help to improve your

pronunciation and will improve your confidence, because you are actually

saying the words! if you wait until you're in the middle of a conversation

to practice, to say a new word for the first time, because you've only been

saying it in your head, you will stumble! you will fail! you will– you will choke! so

use your flashcards as the perfect opportunity to prepare yourself for

those types of situations! now let's talk about how often you should study your

flashcards. this is the number one reason I recommend apps like Anki. apps like

Anki tell you when to study or when to review your flashcards. on Anki, each time

you see a flashcard, you can mark how well you knew it: not at all, eh kind of

alright, pretty good, and excellent! based on that response,

Anki will show you the –FLASHCARD– the flashcard in one minute, one day, one week, one month,

one year! Phew. but how many flashcards should you make? slow down! slow dowwwn!

this is where many people fail! don't make a lot. DON'T DO IT! promise me you will not worry

about the quantity, the number of new vocab words you're trying to learn. focus

on how well you know the words. if you can conjugate the verbs, if you're

comfortable using the word, and if you're comfortable saying it out loud! if you

are a regular person, a regular language learner like me and you, do not make more

than five new flashcards each day. and look at this – five new words a day

translates to one thousand eight hundred and twenty five new words each year! and

those are just the words you're making flashcards for! don't try to become a

human dictionary, try to become a real fluent speaker. someone who uses less

vocabulary, but communicates much, much more effectively! the app I really

recommend is Anki. there's a link down there if you want to download it. also a

link to a video that explains how to use it

when you think of a litter of cuddly kitties you probably imagine them all

curled up somewhere or an another side of their loving mother but with so many

stray and feral cats in the world you're bound to find a feline family where they

don't belong when one construction worker in Moray owl reported to his

worksite one day he couldn't believe his eyes they're right in front of him was a

litter of newborn kittens what the heck were they doing there then he looked

closer he realized that there was something unusual about two of the

kitchens but he couldn't quite put his finger on it

industrial construction sites can be very dangerous this is true no matter

where they are in the world the raw materials required for building in the

dangerous machinery incites itself into anything that young people are animals

for that matter should ever be around in order to work on these sites you need to

have a world of training and a load of experience that was the case for one man

working on an industrial construction site in Morial who many are now calling

a hero in September of 2017 the man reported for duty on an industrial

construction site he thought it would be like any other day except this time

something was different this time he would make a discovery that would change

the way he saw his job forever that morning he happened to spot a litter of

kittens crying out for their mother with no mom in sight he decided to take them

in and care for them he knew an industrial construction site was no

place for them to be it took most of his day trying to round up all of the

kittens in fact he had to make multiple trips to collect them all he worried

that some might have slipped away but he took comfort in the fact that he did the

best that he could once the kitchens were secured he contacted a rescue

organization named chats from soulful and smart al also known as

their mission is to provide all of the help and support bacon to the stray cats

of Morial and they did the city a tremendous service the gentleman managed

to catch six kingdoms one of them was immediately adopted by a family said a

representative from chatrooms Orleans montre about the rescued kittens the guy

knew that the other five needed help so he brought them to us right after

providing them with medical treatment chants from Zeppelin's montre on

employees estimated that the kitchens were only about seven weeks old though

if you had parasites their conditions were treatable and soon they were all

back in good health there was something odd about two of the kittens though

these kitchens had extra toes this was the result of a condition called

polydactyl ism or high bird actally this is an inherited an abnormality caused

when one gene and the cat doesn't develop properly thankfully it's not

serious in fact some people think it's lucky polydactyl cats can have as many

as eight toes on each foot and as a result of their condition their entire

pokken seemed to be much larger than that of the average cat interestingly

this condition usually only affects their front tooth paws although it's

rare the condition can affect against back plus as well the Guinness world

record holder for the number of toes on a cat as a canadian polydactyl kitty

called Jake he has a whopping 28 toast total con wasn't put off by these

kitchens special features and the staff was more excited than ever to help the

entire litter find a home there are two females and three males they said

chaplain Vinnie muscly alpha and Xia the kitchens were immediately placed into

foster care the five little kittens went to their foster home with his Abell to

continue their weaning and socialization said a representative from calm

the little ones were very active friendly and playful once they had a

roof over their heads the kitchens felt comfortable enough to really let their

personalities show alpha one of the polydactyl kitchens revealed himself to

be the comest of the litter loving nothing more than a good nap our cuddle

xia meanwhile proved herself to be the most social of the five sure she enjoyed

time spent playing with her siblings but if things got a little too exciting she

would seek comfort in the lap of the closest person that she could find

muscly the other polydactyl kitten was the most playful of them all she

couldn't resist any toy and that came her way especially those covered in

feathers she also loved to launch sneak attacks against her siblings it looked

like she was shaping up to be one heck of a hunter Vinnie was the kitten with

the biggest passion for stirring up trouble he might love his brothers and

sisters but that didn't mean he wouldn't pounce on them or steal a toy or make

some other kind of havoc just to keep things interesting

of course then he needed a partner in crime and he found that and his brother

Chaplin while all of the kitchens got along with each other the bond that

Chaplin and Vinnie shared was truly one-of-a-kind they loved to shake things

up the kitchens were doing so well and flostor cared that the team had come

decided they were ready to find new forever homes

no one could argue that it was something each and every one of these silly

kitties deserve it come up loaded all of their photos to their Facebook page and

in a matter of weeks they had been adopted just think without the

intervention of the hero on the construction site these unusual kitchens

might never have been a chance thank goodness that construction worker took

the time to round up these special kittens without his help they might

never have found homes at all
