Hi! In this video I will show you how to crochet
this triangular shawl in a filet crochet motif.
[Music]
As you can see, I have made this shawl, and it's just an open mesh.
Of course you can embellish it by, instead of making open meshes,
you can make extra stitches here to close it.
If you have a nice motif you can fill your shawl with that,
but I will use this shawl to do some surface crochet on it,
but I will show that in a later video,
and of course you can embellish it in other ways,
if you crochet flowers and attach that to this mesh,
of course you can do this too,
but in this video I will just show you how to crochet this shawl.
And it's actually quite simple.
I will use this chart for it.
As you can see here, you start with making one chain stitch here,
that will be the middle point of your shawl,
and then you will do 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 chains.
These 6 chains, they repeat themselves every time at a start of a row.
You do double crochets for the squares,
and on the sides, at the end of a row, you always do a triple crochet.
Or in the UK terminology that's a double treble.
Okay, I will just show you.
We start with making a slipknot and putting that on the hook,
and then we will do our first base change stitch,
this one here, and then I will do 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 chains.
So, 1, 2,
3, 4,
5, 6.
Then we do a double crochet in that first stitch.
So, wrap around your hook once,
insert your needle, pull up a loop,
pull through 2 loops, pull through 2 loops.
So now we have done this part.
And now we will do the second part,
so we start with two chains,
1, 2,
and then we will do a triple crochet,
so we wrap around twice,
and then we insert our hook
into the same starting stitch where we did our double crochet.
So,
this is row number 1.
Okay, now we will do row number 2.
So we turn our work,
and like I said, we always start with 6 chain stitches.
So,
1, 2, 3,
4, 5, 6,
and that will make that first triangle here.
Now we will do a double crochet
into that triple crochet we did here,
and I will take my hook out,
if you look at it, here is the place of the double crochet of the previous row,
and then we have 1, 2 chain stitches,
and this is the top of the triple crochet
that we did in the previous row,
so that is where our double crochet will be.
So insert your hook here,
and make a double crochet,
and now we will do 2 open meshes,
so we will do 2 chains, like here and a double crochet
and then again 2 chain stitches,
and then I will show you where to insert that double crochet.
As you can see here, we have here
a chain stitch of the previous row,
the second chain stitch of the previous row,
and the third chain stitch of the previous row,
and you can see that here, it has to be there,
but instead of just taking up this loop,
I kind of go under it a little bit,
and take up this extra loop here, so that I will have 2 loops on my hook,
and that makes it just a little bit... yeah... neater, tighter, so,
I will do a double crochet in here,
so we now have 1, 2, 3 open meshes,
and then we will do the last part.
So again 2 chain stitches,
and then we will do a triple crochet into the same stitch where I did the double crochet,
so we wrap the yarn twice around the needle,
and we insert our hook into the same stitch where we did the double crochet.
So.
And this is what we will repeat each row.
I will do another row, row number 3, to show you one more time,
but as you can see here, we have here 2 open spaces here,
and here we have 1, 2, 3, 4 open spaces,
here we have 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6,
so it's always an even number of open meshes.
Please, do yourself a favor,
count it, because I sometimes forgot to do one of the sides,
and, well, then you have to rip it out for a big part maybe.
So, okay, I will show you one more time,
row number 3, so we start with 6 chain stitches,
so 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6,
and then we will do a double crochet into the triple crochet of the previous row,
so wrap around once, and here is the top of the triple crochet,
and then we will do a couple of more squares,
by making 2 chains and a double crochet,
2 chains and a double crochet,
and then we have come to the last part of the previous row,
so then we are here,
so we do a double crochet into the third chain
of the previous row, where we will pick up 2 loops,
so first I will do 2 chains,
so, and, if you want to look,
here is 1 chain,
2 chains,
3 chains, and then we will pick up this extra loop here,
so,
insert your hook here,
and then we have made that last square
and this is the point where I sometimes go wrong,
because then I forget to do this last part,
so check, check and count,
so first we will do 2 chain stitches,
and then we will do a triple crochet in that same stitch of the previous row,
where we just did our double crochet.
So wrap around twice,
here is that stitch where I did the double crochet,
so insert your hook there,
1, 2, 3. So...
So you can just continue like this all the way.
And well, like I said, this shawl, I made this with a fine yarn,
it's from Alize Angora Gold,
I did this on a 3 mm hook,
and well, this stitch really goes very fast.
You can do a basic shawl like this in just, well,
I think I did 3 evenings about it to make it.
So, okay, I will do more embellishment on it
with surface crochet, and that I will show you in a next video.
Well, that was about how to make this basic shawl.
If you like my video's, please give it a thumbs up,
and leave a comment if you like, and I would also appreciate it,
if you would subscribe to my channel.
So then I will see you back in the next video!
