Youtube daily Nov 24 2017

We hardly know anything about him, isn't that right?

If he truly means us no harm...

...he'll turn himself in and face the consequences.

And if he won't do that...

...then maybe we should.

The Daily Planet's Lois Lane knows who this guy is. She's...

...the one we should be questioning.

- Hold on. You're saying Lois Lane... - Hello?

Are you watching this crap? Been running all morning.

For once I agree with Woodburn. Have you seen him?

- Do you know where he is? - No. Even if I did, I wouldn't say.

The entire world is being threatened here.

This is not time for you to fall...

...back on journalistic integrity.

This is serious, Lois.

The FBI is here. They're throwing around words like "treason. "

I gotta go.

FBI. Hands up.

Drop the bag. Now.

Regarding the visitors themselves we know...

...very little. According to government officials...

...the visitors do not represent a threat...

...despite the ominous tone of their message.

Then of course there's the question on everyone's mind:

"Who is this Kal-Elperson? Does he actually exist?

How could he have remained hidden from us for so long?"

Come on, Kent.

Come on. Fight back.

Get up, Kent.

So is that it?

Is that all you've got?

Come on, Kent.

Come on!

Did they hurt you?

You know they can't.

That's not what I meant. I meant, are you all right?

I wanted to hit that kid. I wanted to hit him bad.

I know you did. I mean...

...part of me even wanted you to, but then what?

Make you feel any better?

You just have to decide what kind of man you want to grow up to be, Clark.

Because whoever that man is, good character or bad, he's...

He's gonna change the world.

What's on your mind?

I don't know where to start.

Wherever you want.

That ship that appeared last night.

I'm the one they're looking for.

Do you know...

...why they want you?

No. But this General Zod...

...even if I surrender, there's no guarantee he'll keep his word, but...

...if there's a chance I can save Earth by turning myself in...

...shouldn't I take it?

What does your gut tell you?

Zod can't be trusted.

The problem is...

...I'm not sure the people of Earth can be either.

Sometimes you have to take a leap of faith first.

The trust part comes later.

the mighty kronosaurus lived during the early cretaceous period was longer than

a killer whale wait seven times more than a beluga whale and was a carnivore

it was named after Greek mythological character Kronos he was about 33 feet

long and weighed about 20,000 pounds or 10 tonnes twice the size of a narwhal

and about two-thirds the weight of a sperm whale

the mighty amargasaurus was about 30 to 35 feet long and weighed about five tons

or 10,000 pounds it had a 7-foot long neck and walked on all four legs was

three car lengths long weighed as much as two white rhinoceroses lived a

hundred years could run 31 miles an hour and he was also an herbivore very

awesome looking dinosaur

the mighty Smilodon the cat's name means Sabretooth it was smaller than a modern

lion and liked to ambush prey from tree branches it was a carnivore it was

referred as a saber-tooth and tiger but it was not a tiger it's a distant

relative of lions and cheetahs wow this guy was awesome

it was about 5 feet long 3 feet high and weighed about 440 pounds

the bloody Ceratosaurus its name means horned lizard this was a carnivore that

lived during the Jurassic period they were about 6 meters her 20 feet in

length and weighed about 980 kilograms or about 2,000 pounds had a strong jaw

with teeth like blades and fed on fish and crocodiles

the mighty wooly mammoth weighed about 6 tons and was the size of

an African elephant there they were herbivores so they ate

plants and fruits they lived about sixty to eighty years and their main predators

were saber-toothed Tigers which we seen earlier in this video so that was their

main predator so basically it's like a big elephant want lots of hair to keep

it warm

the mighty regalis sara tops it has the nickname Hellboy and lived during the

late cretaceous period in what is now Canada it weighed about 3,300 pounds and

grew about 16 feet in length this was an herbivore and it was very similar to

Triceratops so really cool looking dinosaur

the yg allosaurus his name means different lizard it was a carnivore so

it ate me it lived during the Late Jurassic period

they grew about eight and a half meters long which is about 28 feet and weighed

about four tonnes or eight thousand pounds

they had three fingers on their arms to help them rip apart meat and they were

the biggest carnivore of their time

okay and here we have a dirty drags many scientists believe T Rexes actually had

feathers to help protect them from the elements the name of the t-rex means

tyrant lizard these were large carnivores they live they lived about

thirty years its arms are too short to reach its mouth it lived in north

america and river valleys and forests and it could eat about five hundred

pounds of meat with one bite so weighing 16,000 pounds these guys

were huge but they were not quite as big as the gigantosaurus Wow Wow guys that

NEEDTOBREATHE Has Rich Southern Roots | Southern Living - Duration: 2:42.

Mama 'n'em is one of my favorites Southern

things. Your mom 'n'em.

Might could.

Might could do that.

Might coulda.

I like when ruined becomes rurnt.

Fixin'.

(guitar music)

We grew up in, me and Bo, in this town

called Possum Kingdom, South Carolina.

Um, which people think we're joking when we say.

So like 100 people, one stop sign and a

country store.

And we grew up in the upstate also where we

met Seth, in the Seneca/Walhalla

kinda foothills of the Appalachians area.

So yeah, our dad was a pastor and we were

the exact whatever you think of pastor's kids.

I was a goody two shoes for the most part

but I wasn't above like, doing some pranks.

And I set off a fart bomb in church.

(laughing)

I remember that, I was there for that.

That is true.

And they had to evacuate the church,

that's how bad it smelled.

The place we grew up in actually they have

our record hanging in their store

is the Walhalla Steakhouse.

Which they do not serve steak in there.

It's a fried chicken and meat-and-three

kinda place and they have snicker pie

and it is absolutely ridiculous.

I've still not understood the concept of that

where they say 'steakhouse'

and then they don't have steak.

But it's like I guess they're like,

well if you get in there and like "ooh steak",

no you don't have steak.

Well we're already here, so.

(laughing)

Charleston is where we live now.

It has become, in our opinion,

the best city in the South.

We love it.

We're on the road a lot, obviously,

so any place that has, you know,

more brunch places than lunch places work for us.

Bo and I have one of the weirdest Southern

traditions but I don't know how startling,

my dad is a little bit insane.

But was always crab legs for Christmas.

Um, which I'm not sure how that got going

but like, it became... He's an outsider,

so everyone else is doing like hams and turkeys,

we're like, we're doing crab legs.

(laughing)

Yeah we always do low country boil

and it's a big...

Most of my family is still living in

South Carolina so the gatherings are large,

and all the kids and grandkids

are running around.

My grandmother used to make

chicken n' dumplings so she would have this big

pot on the stove and she was the only one

that knew how to make it right.

And then she passed away a couple of years ago

and we're still trying to figure out how to

do it, but, every year that was what we had.

I don't know what you call 'em,

they're like vanilla squares but like the

gooey butter bar,

whatever those things are that's kinda

what I live for every year.

I married into essentially a Southern Living

family where it's like where I walked in

the first time, even when we were dating,

and there is an absolute spread and everything's

perfect and like layers of plates,

I don't even know what you use those for

and all that.

And so now I've gotten very like,

snooty about that like,

if it's not like this then something's wrong.

BREAKING NEWS Out Of The NAVY… It's NOT Good - Duration: 3:26.

PHILIPPINE SEA — The U.S. Navy ceased search and rescue operations at 10:00 a.m. Japan

Standard Time on Nov. 24 for three Sailors not immediately recovered after a C-2A Greyhound

crashed on the afternoon of Nov. 22.

USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) led the combined search and rescue efforts with units from

the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF).

During the course of two days, seven U.S. Navy and JMSDF ships, three helicopter squadrons

and maritime patrol aircraft covered nearly 1,000 square nautical miles in the search

for the missing Sailors.

Eight Sailors were immediately recovered from the crash and transferred to Ronald Reagan

for medical evaluation.

All are in good condition at this time.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with our lost shipmates and their families," said Rear

Adm. Marc Dalton, Commander, Task Force 70.

"As difficult as this is, we are thankful for the rapid and effective response that

led to the rescue of eight of our shipmates, and I appreciate the professionalism and dedication

shown by all who participated in the search efforts."

The Sailors names are being withheld pending completion of next of kin notifications.

The following ships and aircraft assisted in the search efforts: U.S. Navy guided-missile

destroyers USS Stethem (DDG 63), USS Chafee (DDG 90) and USS Mustin (DDG 89); MH-60R Seahawk

helicopters of the "Saberhawks" from U.S. Navy Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM)

77 "Saberhawks" and "Warlords" of HSM 51; MH-60S helicopters from Helicopter

Sea Combat Squadron (HSC-12); P-8 aircraft from the "Fighting Tigers" of U.S. Navy

Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Squadron (VP) 8; P-3 Orion aircraft of the "Red Hook"

U.S. Navy Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Squadron (VP) 40; JMSDF Helicopter Carrier

JS Kaga (DDH 184) and JS Ise (DDH 182); JMSDF Akizuki-class destroyer JS Teruzuki (DD 116);

JMSDF Murasame-class destroyer JS Samidare (DD 106), and JMSDF Hatakaze-class destroyer

JS Shimakaze (DDG 172).

An investigation is currently underway.

A former Navy C-2 pilot told Fox News Thursday that the fact that eight of the 11 people

on board were rescued indicates the pilots performed a feat similar to Chesley "Sully"

Sullenberger, who safely landed a crippled airliner in the Hudson River in 2009.

Military sources told Fox News that Navy officials are investigating several possible causes

of the crash, including an extremely rare dual engine failure.

Investigators are also looking at the plane's fuel and oil sources.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of these American heroes.

Rest in peace and thank you for your service.

Metamorphosis | 1.6 | Advanced English Reading Skills | How to Read in English - Duration: 6:03.

Time to get back to the Metamorphosis, amigos! see how Gregor's doing, find out

how that polished boot motherfu– is doing. if this is your first time here I'm

so psyched that you are ready to improve your English, start reading and become a

fluent speaker, but hey this is not the beginning of the book, so start up here.

of course we'll be waiting for you, come on. gotta give a shout-out to the patrons

who make this video and all my videos possible, thank you so much! if you want

to join the patreon crew, click up here. for those patrons the vocab review video

will be available shortly after this video is published. and I hope you're not

forgetting, but click down here, the three dots to really benefit from these videos

a lot more. so let's see what happens. Gregor is in a tight situation, let's

find out what he does next.

"good morning Mr. Samsa" "he isn't well" said his mother to the chief clerk while

his father continued to speak through the door "he isn't well. believe me. why

else would Gregor have missed a train? the lad only ever thinks about the

business, it nearly makes me cross the way he

never goes out in the evenings. he's been in town for a week now, but stayed home

every evening. he sits with us in the kitchen and just reads the paper or

studies train timetables. his idea of relaxation is working with his fretsaw.

he's made a little frame for instance, it only took him two or three evenings.

you'll be amazed by how nice it is. it's hanging up in his room, you'll see it as

soon as Gregor opens the door. anyway I'm glad you're here, we wouldn't have been

able to get Gregor to open the door by ourselves, he's so stubborn. and I'm sure

he isn't well, he said this morning that he is, but he isn't. "I'll be there in a

moment" said Gregor slowly and thoughtfully. but

without moving so that he would not miss any word of the conversation. "well I

can't think of any other way of explaining it, Mrs. Samsa" said the chief

clerk. "I hope it's nothing serious, but on the other hand I must say it that if we

people in commerce ever become slightly unwell, then fortunately or unfortunately,

as you like, we simply have to overcome it because of business considerations.

this chief clerk sounds like a dick let's do a little review. so his mother

is trying to defend Gregor. and she says oh, the lad, he only thinks about his work.

a lad is just a young man. we don't use this in the US, it's still common in the

UK. to make someone cross, means to make someone upset and angry. what's something

that makes you cross? a timetable is just a schedule. so Gregor just studies

the schedule of trains, when they arrive and when they leave. a fretsaw

is just a type of saw, a much smaller saw. instead I would just say a handsaw. and

his mom says that he is stubborn. if you're stubborn you don't change your

mind easily, you get stuck on an idea and you

cannot be persuaded otherwise. if you're very stubborn, we can say that you are

pigheaded. that's much more of an insult. and to do something thoughtfully

means with a lot of attention and care. if you are very thoughtful, means you are

very polite and generous to other people. so Gregor when speaking, is very

thoughtful. he speaks very thoughtfully as to not make any mistakes and to not

sound strange. and finally, commerce, this is the area

that Gregor works in. commerce is simply the buying and selling of goods. so let's

get back to the story and see what the chief clerk does. "can the chief clerk

come in to see you now, then?" asked his father impatiently.

knocking at the door again. "no!" said Gregor in the room on his right there

followed a painful silence. in the room on his left, his sister began to cry. so

why did his sister not go and join the others? she had probably only just got up

and had not even begun to get dressed. and why was she crying? was it because he

had not got up and had not let the chief clerk in? because he was in danger

of losing his job and if that happened his boss would once more pursue their

parents with the same demands as before? there was no need to worry about things

like that yet. Gregor was still there and had not the slightest intention of

abandoning his family. for the time being he just lay there on the carpet and no

one who knew the condition he was in would have expected him to let the chief

clerk in. it was only a minor discourtesy, and a suitable excuse could easily be

found for it later on. it was not something for which Gregor could be

sacked on the spot. and it seemed to Gregor much more

sensible to leave him now in peace, instead of disturbing him with talking

at him and crying. but the others didn't know what was happening, they were

worried. that would excuse their behavior. alright let's take a look .to pursue

someone is to follow someone. more like to chase, relentless. so Gregor believes

that his parents are worried that if he loses this job and leaves, then his boss

will pursue them for their debts. he will chase them until he gets their money. and

Gregor says no I won't abandon my family. to abandon someone means to leave

permanently, never come back. Gregor thinks that what he's doing is

only a minor, a small discourtesy. a discourtesy is something impolite, you

can say discourteous, I think it's better to say uncourteous. and Gregor thinks, eh, I

can't be sacked on the spot. to be sacked means to be removed from your job, fired.

on the spot means immediately. I don't know Gregor you could be sacked

if you continue this uncourteous behavior. and Gregor thinks he's being

sensible about these thoughts he has. to be sensible means to be rational, and

realistic. I'm not sure because things look like they're getting out of hand.

it's getting crazy! remember! the patreon vocab review will

be available shortly. if you want to continue practicing, the fluency book

club podcast is available, and in the description you can get free books, free

digital versions of books and free audio books to read as well. that about does it

for today, take care and I'll talk to you later!

Should I Be Calling The Police Right Now?! A Lost in Translation Storytime | Kate's Adventures - Duration: 7:01.

My beloved Zoom recorder and trusty memory card have decided not to work today

so this is going to be a very quick video. I've spent all my time trying to get this to work

instead of actually filming so we shall see what happens.

Yes it's working again! Okay here we go, here we go. Okay this is "Lost in Translation". [3 HAND CLAPS]

I've never been amazing at foreign languages.

I did alright at school, but ask me to speak French and I can barely string a sentence together

I seem to have the least amount of luck in Germany

probably because that's somewhere I've visited quite a few times.

There was the time that I almost went to give blood when I was looking for directions in Berlin

and then there was the time that I was singing in church about scissors instead of the Heavenly Host

so I'm not really the best person to speak to when translating what's happened in a foreign language.

But the thing that terrified me the most when I've been in Germany

happened in the North of Germany one day

as we were in a car listening to the radio whilst going through the countryside.

Now German radio is a mixture of songs that I don't recognize because they're maybe not in English

or they're more European, you know, more local songs

and a mixture of stuff that you'd expect to hear on the radio

like the chart music, the stuff that you hear in the UK and the US and other English speaking countries.

So there'd been a few songs that I didn't recognize because they were in German

and then they started playing some English songs and I was like "Oh cool" you know, I know some of these.

So I'm not somebody who says that they're a music mogul

but I do tend to know some of the older songs and I do know some of the inspirations behind certain songs.

So the first song that they played was "I Don't Like Mondays" by the Boomtown Rats

and that song is inspired by a shooting that happened in California.

The next song came on the radio and it was "Knocking On Heaven's Door" by Bob Dylan

which, I don't know if the original influence of the song was a shooting, but certainly in my lifetime

it was used to commemorate the victims of the 1996 Dunblane massacre which happened in Scotland

so I don't know about anybody else but I certainly associate that with gun massacres again.

So there'd been two songs in a row that were about shootings which was quirky

and I think I said to Lilly "That's weird, you know, they've just played two songs about shootings"

and she was like "Hmm, I wouldn't have guessed they were about shootings"

because they're songs that you don't really hear the message of until you actually stop listening to the music

if that makes any sense, I don't think it does. But sometimes you can be listening to a song for years

before you actually realize what the influences were behind it.

Anyways after "Knocking On Heaven's Door" finished,

they started playing "Pumped Up Kicks" by Foster the People, which had been in the charts recently,

but it made my blood run cold when I heard it because "Pumped Up Kicks" sounds like a very cheery song,

but again it's a song about wanting to shoot people. And at that moment I started to panic a little.

I was in the middle of Germany, I didn't know the language. According to Lilly and her family

there wasn't any sort of competition on to figure out the link between these three songs

and the radio DJ had just played three songs about gun massacres in a row

which in the UK would cause me to call the police. And in Germany I had to stop myself

because I thought "Maybe they haven't realised they've played three songs about gun massacres in a row"

maybe it was just a computer system that's managed to randomly pick these songs, I don't know

but it was very much a moment where I thought should I be calling the police?

Can I do that because a radio DJ in the middle of nowhere

has decided to play three songs about gun massacres?

It was one of those moments where I was like "What do I do?", I genuinely didn't know.

We're taught the emergency numbers when I was little, we're taught when it's appropriate to call

but nobody's told you about the more unique situations. Like do you call

when somebody plays three tracks of music that are all about the same theme

and it's a very serious and very concerning theme?

And do you call when somebody's threatened to hurt people in public and you've captured it on your vlog?

V/O - Hi everyone, it's Future Kate here. I've just been editing this vlog

and I've realised that that second scenario I gave you wasn't very well described

and I just wanted to explain the situation a little bit better. What basically happened was I was in an area

where there was a man with a gun who wasn't coping with life very well, he was threatening to hurt people.

When I got there the police were on their way and basically on my vlog I got witness footage

of what had happened and I wasn't sure whether I should have given that to the authorities.

In the end everything was fine, everybody was safe, on with video.

Those are two times where I genuinely thought about calling emergency services and I didn't

and I think I'm maybe going to watch out for situations like this in the future

because those are maybe both situations where I should have called emergency services

and I maybe would have felt very guilty if something had happened.

Anyway that's videos taken rather a dark turn there,

sorry if you thought this was going to be a light-hearted story.

It is a light-hearted story but it has quite a serious message behind it.

Ultimately nothing seemed to happen in Germany that day, as far as I'm aware there were no gun massacres.

We did struggle to get home because there'd been some accidents on the road

but ultimately nothing happened like I was imagining it to happen which is the best thing in the world.

But there we go, have you found yourself in any unusual situations when lost in translation abroad?

I would love to hear about them down below. Or have you heard anything weird on the radio

that made you think twice about the intentions of the person behind the camera?

Not the camera, the microphone in the sense of radio.

Is this sounding familiar to anybody? Do you have any stories that you can share down below?

I would love to hear them and thank you so so much for watching everybody, cheerio!

The County Seat Opioid epidemic in Utah - Duration: 28:51.

Hello everybody welcome to The County Seat

I'm your host Chad Booth. Today we are going

to have a lengthy discussion for the entire half

hour on a single topic and it is the opioid

problem in Utah. It's been in the headlines a lot

but it seems likes on a daily basis you start to

see opioids connected to just about every

problem that we are having and it is definitely

part of the Rio Grande issue its part of rising

crime rates its part of a continued mental illness

it programming in jails across the counties and

it's all around a source that is now being

attributed in large part to prescription pain

medications as to why it has exploded. Joining

us now for our conversation today is of course

the Speaker of the Utah State Legislature, Greg

Hughes thank you Mr. Speaker for joining us.

Brian Besser who is the district agent in charge

for the DEA drug enforcement agency here in

Utah thank you for taking time to join us and

Commissioner Bill Lee from Utah County. They

Besser I am going to start with you and just try

to get a scope of how pervasive opioids are

obviously they sent in the big guns you have

been sent to Utah been here for a year?

About a year and half or so.

Tell me what the story is and how woven into

the fabric our society this has become.

It's a great question and it's a question I try to

paint in the context of at least my personal

experience I have been doing drug enforcement

for about 26 years and to be honest with you I

have never seen anything like it. I remember

working worth the meth amphetamine scourge

years ago in the early 90's that swept across the

United States and we watched that proliferate

even in a smaller households in the east coast I

was stationed in New York at the time and the

meth amphetamine scourge again it took us by

storm and everyone was taken back by that

because you had a drug that could be made at

home to some degree completely different then

what we are dealing with now. Now we have

this opioid crisis that is literally burgeoning

across the United States last year 2016 we lost

64,000 individuals in this country to drug

related overdose deaths. I try to paint that in

an appropriate context you could literally take

Lavelle Edwards stadium on Brigham Young

Campus fill that completely full, every single

seat on game day and wipe that off the face of

the map. That is 64,000 people. That is how

many people we lost last year this year's

numbers do not look any better. So we are

losing a lot of people to drug related overdose

the majority of those deaths are opioid and

heroin related.

has not been following to make the connection

between opioids and heroin I know the

billboards along the freeway are trying to

educate us that one is the same as the other

how are we getting a growing heroin problem

and an opioid problem what is the linkage

there?

That's a great question. Opioids are a synthetic

drug and Opiate with a "te" is more of a natural

drug we make heroin and morphine out of

opiates. Opioids are manmade they are

synthetic. So our synthetic opioids that we are

seeing now especially our pharmaceuticals like

Oxycodone, OxyContin, Hydrocodone, etc.

those are extremely powerful they have a very

highly addictive nature very highly addictive

properties to them and when individuals either

inadvertently or sometimes accidentally get

addicted to these drugs they can end up

suffering with addiction 80% of those

individuals now are seguing to street heroin its

cheaper its more readily available you get the

same type of psychotropic psychoactive affects

as you do with opioids when you are using

heroin. That is what we are seeing, it's really a

sense of supply and demand. If you can no

longer get the opiates or the opioids you end up

transferring heroin because it's on the street

and it's readily available but it is very deadly

and like we said it's the same dead that you

suffer from with opioids or heroin.

the rising element of mental illness and

homelessness and we will do that this as our

first topic when we come back here on The

County Seat.

Welcome back to The County Seat we are

talking today about opioids I want to bring my

attention from the drug and the addiction itself

to the manifestations of it which most arguable

or most people are aware has been

concentrated about the growing number of

homeless problems in the Rio Grande area of

Salt Lake City. Enough so that Speaker Hughes

adopted this a mission. You have gone a little

further than most people thought you decided

in order to solve the problem you needed to

work there tell me what has been going on?

Chad, the state legislature a number of years

ago realized that this growing open air drug

trafficking that was going on in Salt Lake City

and around the Rio Grande area and the

homeless services that were there that was out

of control to a point where it was pretty hard to

see a city or its police department all by itself

deal with the carnage with the crime with the

eco system of crime and the problems that

were there. So we began engaging as a state

and I describe it as we were helping with the

future construction in the resource centers. We

were putting police officers in our Midvale

family center to help keep a calming effect as

we kept that facility open longer. But we were

finding is in the areas that we were as a state

providing more appropriations things were

getting worse we were told that year over year

things were worse than they had ever been.

And now that is hard to hear as a state law

maker because when you put funds finite funds

towards an effort there are a lot of things that

you walk away from and a lot of my colleagues

are not from Salt Lake City or Salt Lake County

but they show the leadership that we were

going to come together and try to fix a problem

that we thought was larger than one city or one

county and it was a state. My disappointment

and even my regret that after all we had done

things were continuing to spiral and social

disorder was beyond what I think the average

Utahn would even understand. So I had a

tipping point over the 4th of July holiday we had

some death and violent acts occur it was in the

USA today the UK daily mail the whole world

was watching the urban chaos happening in our

capitol city and I decided on July 5th that I was

going down to that area I was going to have a

storefront office and all my legislative meetings

were going to be held right there in front of and

at the Rio Grande and so we began to have

policy discussions and starting to watch things

we had not seen before and you were seeing in

the Capitol building or in a committee meeting.

So what we did we began to lay the ground

work for what is called Operation Rio Grande.

Operation Rio Grande is looking to restore the

social order break the eco system of crime and

most importantly for those that are vulnerable

we have had wolves amongst the vulnerable for

years down there that was contributing to a

growing epidemic of drug addiction. We

wanted to stem that tide we wanted to get

after and break up that eco system of crime and

bring help to those who needed it. Here is

what I learned in my time down there. 4 out of

the 5 heroin addicts that were looking for their

fix their balloon of heroin out of somebody's

back pack 4 out of 5 began their addiction

through pain medication and opioid

prescriptions.

4 out of 5?

Yes, 4 out of 5. And that was staggering to me

and then I thought wait a minute did they abuse

those drugs did they get outside of that

Doctor's prescription. It turns out Chad that

well within the doctor's prescription you could

find yourself a heroin addict or an addict of

opioids if you can't find them moving on to

heroin within ten days. I was naïve to this. So I

looked at an area where we had 67 million

dollars of state county and city resources

service providers coming down here 67 million

dollars we planned to appropriate and spend

and use in the next 20 months in that area. And

I will tell you the fountain head of that chaos

are opioids where people have become drug

addicted and they are there for a market that is

insatiable.

unsaid in what you just told me is that some of

those people that you think are derelicts and

societal misfits that are living under viaducts

the stereotypical type we have had very easily

could have been an a young rising athlete in

high school football team as little as 6 months

ago?

Absolutely. It's the saddest thing and I was so

naïve to this as I decided to stay down there

and learn peoples stories because there is too

anonymity down there where the criminals can

walk amongst and prey upon people that are in

dire circumstances what I learned is that you do

have athletes who have had a surgery and

found themselves addicted you have people

who have come across an appropriate or what

looked like an appropriate prescription from

their physician that has thrown them into this

addiction and when it becomes too hard to get

that prescription drug that is where the heroin

becomes your next option and we were seeing

it, Chad. People from all walks for life that were

frequenting this area. That Rio Grande Street

was a McDonald's drive through of drug

trafficking and it was unabashed. They did not

care if police officers were there. I was in a suit

they did not care it did not slow anyone down.

And when you saw that as well as the

murdering and the violence that was happening

people that needed help there were invisible

barriers where people were afraid to get to that

area. My issue is this as a policy maker. We

have been talking about the bottom of this cliff

where people are devastated and they have

fallen I want to get above this cliff and I want to

talk about the manufacturers of these opioids.

You have 99% of these drugs that are produced

on the planet being sent to the United States

which only consists of about 5% of the world's

population that stat is staggering when you

think about it.

come back we will talk about what some of the

counties are doing and what we would like to

see at least what Speaker Hughes would like to

see and obviously Agent Besser and we will

cover that when we come back on The County

Seat.

Welcome back to The County Seat we are

talking today about the Utah opioid crisis.

Agent Besser I have been corrected, because

my image is the good kid gone bad he ends up

looking like he lives under a viaduct you are not

seeing this.

Yes, it is completely different. The paradigm

has completely changed. You know people

think of drugs they think of the dirty side of

town. What we are seeing is it is not

necessarily the case anymore. It used to be

drugs come in a baggy what about the drugs

that come in a bottle you cannot divorce the

two. We are literally seeing soccer moms,

clergy, business men, and high school kids,

grade school kids getting hooked on opioids,

quietly at home and not talking about it

because they do not want to deal with the

stigma of shame that may come with that

quietly dying at home. Something I have never

seen before. That is how pervasive this is. That

is the difference now we are no longer dealing

with the seedy side of town. We are dealing

with the home.

Commissioner Lee talk to me for a minute

about what Utah County has done as you have

been a headline maker as far as what is

happening with this and I was very surprised

but gratified when I read the headline.

Yes, in looking at this, this is not something that

is behind the scenes as mentioned here. These

are faces that we see we all know them it's in

our neighborhoods it's in our families it's there

all the time and we cannot just duck away from

this. As elected officials we have taken an

sworn oath to protect and defend and that

means to the citizens of our counties as well as

we look at that in a realistic manner we have to

stand up to some of these issues and say here

we are we are going to make a stand on it is not

something we are just going to hide behind and

say maybe some other day. That is a big point.

want to jump to that quickly. They are saying

out there that opioids are safe and effective

that they treat chronic and non-cancer pain.

They also say that the existence of scientific

evidence that opioids are affective for long term

use. It is a narrative that is not correct and as

elected officials and as we are looking at this it

does not just affect the people we have it

within our sheriff's department where we are

looking at the jails we deal with it on a regular

basis. Our Wasatch mental health issues the

drug and alcohol abuse all of the substance that

we are trying to alleviate they are their

constantly. It affects the county on its bottom

line with the budgeting because we have to go

after and deal with these issues. There are in

our emergency rooms we have every day more

than 1000 people treated in the emergency

rooms for misuse of prescription drugs. Not for

the proper use but misuse of prescription drugs.

These need to be addressed we are not

necessarily going out there and saying we want

to have everybody always feel pain all the time

but it's the misuse and then the leading as it

gets into the drug abuses and the drug

overdoses that are a big concern for us and we

have that standing in the county where we are

directly affected by that and we are leading out

and we are saying we need to pursue legal

actions to turn the tide of this or to at least

address it.

So you are saying that basically you are going to

seek a legal remedy and not wait for the

legislative remedy and that legal remedy is

based not only on harm to individuals within

your county but actual harm to the county and

its resources.

Exactly. Harm to the county and its resources,

we have put millions of dollars to fight against

this and to offset it so yes it is a legal action that

would say that the county is at risk here.

I think this is a very noble thing that Utah

County is undertaken but do you think it will be

enough to turn the edge of conversation?

Utah County alone, no way. It has to be a

whole bunch of counties and states and others

that come into play to make it happen.

Chad, here is what is important. You 12 states

who on their own, not collectively or in

coalition of states, but 12 states that have

stepped forward and said we are going to

litigate with big pharma because you are

producing a product that is turning heroin

addicts out of patients within ten days. So

within 30 to 60 days people can within the

prescription they have been prescribed become

addicted. Dangerously or even fatally addicted.

We want to see states and counties we have

four Republican counties in the state of

Tennessee a good Republic red state like

Tennessee you have got over 30 counties some

of the largest counties in the United States who

have to again at the bottom of the cliff try to

help people who have fallen. Trying to help

with behavioral health and trying to keep the

wolves and the heroin dealers away from them

we are going up to the top of this cliff and we

want there to be an enormity of counties and of

states and even cities that go to the big pharma

and litigate until the point where the

manufactures of these drugs the liability is too

great. We have to change practice we have to

change behavior. That is what I am after there

are settlements and dollars to be retrieved to

reimburse Operation Rio Grande all the costs

that counties and the states have incurred but

until we get this multi prong attack until there is

again an enormity of law suits and

accountability brought upon those who are

bringing these drugs into the market I do not

think you will get the change in behavior.

Let me ask you Bill has there been push back

from what Utah County is setting out to do.

There have been some emails that have started

and I am sure there will be push back for it and

litigation is always counted in dollars but in this

case sometimes it's the people that are more

important for us to be looking at not necessarily

the dollars win loss when it comes to dollars

that is not necessarily why I am involved but

that is how we keep score and in this case it is

trying to say enough is enough when it comes

to this and we need to turn that tide and it is

more important for us to get our people in the

safe places and the marketing done

appropriately.

Would the litigation direct a different

prescribing method or at a court level or a

labeling thing what are you hoping for as a

remedy?

Well stop this false marketing for one and turn

it around so we don't have this kind of

marketing going on that allows for these drugs

to be out there and in a sense they are

dangerous it's a dangerous drug and yet they

are sitting on our shelves. They are sitting in

our closets they are there all the time and it's

almost like sitting on the edge of a line at the

freeway where we are saying well we have all

this right here and we can have a camp right

there and not knowing that the cars are going

past 100 miles an hour and we say we are okay

because we are on this side of the line but what

don't know is that our kids and others can cross

that line so quickly that they are gone in

seconds.

Let's drive this home for victims that cannot

speak for themselves. Right now in America

every 25 minutes a baby is born suffering from

opiate withdrawal every 25 minutes one baby

that is one out of every 200 babies born is born

suffering from some type of opioid withdrawal

that is staggering to me because those are little

individuals, little victims that cannot even speak

for themselves.

Okay, I'm overwhelmed we are going to take a

break and finish this conversation on The

County Seat.

Welcome back to The County Seat our

conversation today has been about the opioid

crisis and some of the innovative things that the

state the Speaker of the House DEA and the

counties are doing. Let's focus on what

counties need to do. Utah County you guys

have said regardless of whoever else comes to

the table we are going to take this on in a legal

battle and it's a big project this is not a county

attorney thing. What do counties need to do?

We are going out to an RFP, which is a request

for a proposal and we have already had multiple

law agencies across the United States from New

York, Texas, California all over the place come

to us and say what do you think about this issue

and so we will throw that out there and find the

best one that fits the needs we have and we

feel comfortable with and we will move forward

and move forward with a good team in place.

Chad, here is the key. We need strength in

numbers there needs to be a multiple front war

where we need Utah County and Salt Lake

County has indicated that they are ready to step

forward in this space. We need the counties in

the state of Utah to join over 30 counties across

this country in saying if there was such a thing

as a tobacco lawsuit that you could use a

product and maybe get empyema or lung

cancer in 20 years of using that product what

about the product where you can become a

heroin addict in ten days or 30 days. The risks

to this public the carnage it has created has to

be brought forward and we have to confront

this as a population but those that have created

these drugs and the carnage that they have

created have to be held accountable and that is

what the counties to have legal standing they

can step forward and believe that and I really

believe that that bottom line unfortunately is

what will be the catalyst to change attitudes

and practices with the pharmaceutical

companies.

So if counties want to get into this dog fight do

they contact Utah County or contact your office

Speaker Hughes?

We are at a conference now of Utah counties

and I am here to engage with our county

leaders and Commissioner Lee is doing the

same thing in terms of his example and Utah

County's example we are here to talk about

coming together and I think the discussion we

are going to have here at this conference with

our other county public servants we are going

to band together certainly the largest counties

in Utah but every county. There is not a county

that is immune from the carnage that has

occurred here so that is what we are going to

do and continue to do.

I think that in the State of Utah we have a

pretty strong self-constitution within ourselves

we need to come forward and we have always

been able to address issues even hard issues,

this is one of those hard issues we need the

people to stand up and start speaking out and

saying enough enough with this thing and

telling their story.

Okay, gentlemen that is the charge and thank

you very much. Thank you for joining us and

remember local government is where your life

happens, good and bad the solutions will be

found in us collectively working together and

that is part of the reason we bring you the

Netanyahu Announces New Strategy Against Iran as Khamenei Calls Israel a 'Cancerous Tumor' - Duration: 6:54.

Tensions between Israel and Iran spiked this week when news broke about a possible Israeli

intervention in Syria after Russia declared the war in the country over.

Iranian leaders responded by threatening the "cancerous tumor" of Israel with annihilation.

During a telephone conversation between Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu and French

President Emmanuel Macron, the Israeli leader revealed a new Israeli strategy in Syria and

made it clear the Israel Defense Forces would act alone if necessary against an Iranian

takeover of the war-torn country.

Until recently, Israel's approach to the war in Syria was to sit on the fence and not

interfere, with one exception being when Iran would deliver weapons to Hezbollah.

A transcript of the conversation between the two leaders obtained by Israeli TV Channel

10 revealed Macron tried to calm down Netanyahu and dissuade him from taking "hasty" action.

When Macron wanted to discuss the political crisis in Lebanon after the unexpected resignation

of Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri, who rescinded his resignation as soon as he returned

to Lebanon after a near three-week stay abroad, Netanyahu reportedly said the following:

"I don't care who the Lebanese prime minister is or what goes on in the internal politics

there.

What worries me is the strengthening of Hezbollah with Iran's support."

After pointing out to Macron that all Lebanese factions must work together to prevent additional

Iranian weapon deliveries to Hezbollah in order to minimize the growing Iranian influence

over Lebanon and Syria, Netanyahu issued a threat.

"Israel has tried up until now not to intervene in what is going on in Syria.

But after the victory over Islamic State, the situation has changed because the pro-Iranian

forces have taken control," the Israeli PM told Macron, while adding that "from

now on, Israel sees Iran's activities in Syria as a target."

"We will not hesitate to act, if our security needs require us to do so," Netanyahu warned.

The Israeli leader has embarked on a diplomatic offensive to mobilize the Western countries

and the Russians against what Iran is doing in Syria and Lebanon.

On Tuesday, Netanyahu spoke at length about Syria and Lebanon with Russian President Vladimir

Putin and "insisted on Israeli security and reiterated his opposition to Iran's

entrenchment in Syria," the PM's office said in a statement to The Times of Israel.

The Israeli leader is also scheduled to make a rare appearance at a European Union summit

for European Foreign Ministers at the end of November.

At the summit, he plans to discuss measures against the Islamic Republic's hegemonic

drive in the Middle East.

Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman is another high-ranking Israeli official who

is alarmed about the international passivity in light of Iran's aggression and imperialistic

moves in the Middle East.

Liberman, who earlier this week demanded a sharp rise in the IDF's budget in light

of certain "regional developments," said at the beginning of November Israel will not

allow Iran to turn Syria in a "forward-operating base."

"We simply will not allow Shiite and Iranian entrenchment in Syria.

And we will not allow all of Syria to become a forward-operating base against the State

of Israel.

Whoever doesn't understand that — should understand that," Liberman warned.

Israel has recently stepped up its operations in Syria and is now focusing on thwarting

Iranian attempts to set up a base near Mount Hermon on the Golan Heights.

At the beginning of November, the IDF warned they would defend the Druze community in Hader,

a Syrian town just across the border in northeast Israel.

The announcement later proved to be connected to the continuing Iranian attempts to set

up a military base in the internationally recognized demilitarized buffer zone between

Syria and Israel.

For this reason, the IDF has already fired warning shots two times at soldiers of the

Iranian-Russian-backed pro-Assad coalition, which conducted construction activities in

the demilitarized zone on the Golan Heights.

The Iranians are not deterred, though, and further stepped up their belligerent rhetoric

against the "Zionist regime" while vowing to continue arming Hezbollah, the Iranian-founded-

and backed Shiite terrorist organization in Lebanon.

Maj. Gen, Mohammad Ali Jafari, the commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps,

said Thursday that Iran would eradicate the Zionist regime in the next war.

"Any new war in the Middle East 'will lead to the eradication of the Zionist regime,'"

the IRGC head told reporters in Tehran, according to The Algemeiner.

He referred to the achievements of Hezbollah and Hamas in their most recent wars against

Israel.

"The fate of the resistance front is interwoven and they all stand united and if Israel attacks

a part of it, the other component of the front will help it," Jafari said about the Iranian

cooperation with Palestinian terror movements such as Hamas and Islamic Jihad, as well as

Hezbollah in Lebanon.

"The Zionist regime is no more a threat to Iran and the least mistake by it would

be the last one," the state-run Islamic Republic News Agency reported in covering

Jafari's comments.

The highest-ranking Iranian military official then announced he sees indications Iran is

"destroying the U.S. hegemony in the Muslim world," and claimed America's allies in

the Middle East are in despair because of the "political and security developments

in the region."

Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei doubled down on Jafari's remarks during an international

conference on apostates and successors of Muhammad, meaning pious Muslims.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran is standing; and, it will continue to stand against the

conspiracies of the arrogant Zionist Front that seeks to create rifts between Muslims,"

Khamenei said, before vowing Israel will be defeated.

"With God's favor, the enemy will be defeated just as the wicked ISIS was uprooted in Iraq

and Syria," according to the Ayatollah.

Khamenei then said the "Front of Arrogance," meaning the U.S. and Israel, has not succeeded

in isolating the Islamic Republic.

He vowed Iran will continue to assist others in the Middle East "wherever it's presence

is needed, to confront disbelief and arrogance."

"We will not compromise with anyone when expressing this," the Iranian supreme leader

said, before calling "Palestine" the most important issue within the Muslim world.

"The key, towards overcoming the enemies of Islam, is Palestine, because the Front

of Disbelief, Arrogance, and Zionism, occupying the Islamic country of Palestine, have made

it their base for disrupting the security of countries within the region," Khamenei

claimed, noting that Israel is a "cancerous tumor".

"We must confront the cancerous tumor of Israel," he said.
